Again for some reason TOS+comic seems cool whereas TNG+comic seems dumb.
I don't really know why - it just seems weirdly more "appropriate" that way.
If I knew absolutely nothing about the two titles I'd pick up the TOS related one first.

Quote:This show's still interesting but it's starting to gain an annoying habit of developing side plots for a few episodes only to totally drop them and apparently never mention them again. Things like the whole Fairy plot (a pretty big deal in the books) and the fate of the Hotshot were-panthers were just abruptly dropped. My guess is that as of next episode the whole "Lafayette baby ghost" thing will be forgotten too. I have no problem with the show exploring all these tangents, but it's like it's trying to juggle too many of them and a few are literally dropping on the floor.Wish they would have extended the cemetery fight scene for the beginning of this episode; slightly jarring to see Bill going from being silvered to rushing to Sookie's aid, and I was hoping Pam would have intervened on Eric's behalf.
It's obvious they're aware that separating the characters so much in the previous season hurt the overall plot, but I'm not sure throwing all the secondary characters together for a sub-plot out of left field is the answer.
Basically I've always assumed (again based on the books) that Debbie was fated to be an enemy and probably killed by Sookie. I think this season's one year time jump allowed Debbie to cool off and let her linger around a bit longer as a regular character this season with Alcide. But I never figured she'd ever "play nice" forever and that Sookie would have to deal with her eventually. All I'm looking forward to is seeing how Debbie's going to die.Quote:Dammit, Debbie is regressing; maybe she'll hook up with Tommy in a motel room which is promptly struck by a meteor.
After immediately bringing up Sookie's telepathy, it seemed clear Debbie was just concentrating hard on those thoughts to conceal her motives, which is a shame since I thought perhaps Debbie could get her character development back and take Pam's place as Sookie's supernatural girlfriend.
I thought it was funny that at the same time Sam was "doing the deed" his brother was getting beat up for it.Quote:Dammit, Alcide, you should've let them kill that plot-dragging, scene-wasting little snot!
Hooray for Sam for finally hitting that.
Sure Tommy's done some stupid things but I think there's still a bit of noble tragedy in him because I think deep down he cares for Sam but he just doesn't know how to handle it with his dysfunctional upbringing. I figure he'll die while directly trying to save/help Sam in some way.
It was kind of obvious Jason and Jessica were going to jump each other but I figured Jason would try to hold himself back for at least another episode or two. So much for his "lifelong friendship" with Hoyt.Quote:Rassafrassin sonuva, we came *this* close to Jessica abolishing her no topless scenes rule tonight! Ahem ...

I have nothing against Picard or TNG at all. I'm fairly sure I've seen every episode of TNG they ever made. But basically when I think about "Star Trek" and "comic book crossovers" it just somehow make more sense for it to involve the TOS crew than any other show. Somehow the 60's era Trek just seems more appropriate for the fun comic book treatment.
The irony of course is that Patrick Stewart has played Professor X in the movies, but still I don't think that makes TNG better for comic books than TOS.

Quote:For what it's worth I don't care about the specific "source material" behind this TV show. I've never actually even read it myself. But given the general "downer" tone of the article talking about Darabont being fired and the show having filming problems and getting its budget cut don't paint an overall pretty picture about the future of the show. Basically when the indicators start looking bad like this shows don't typically last too much longer.as Kirkman has said many many times.....the Walking Dead comics are NOT canon....I really wish people would get over that fact.
So no I don't really care about the "canon" of this show and I totally understand the idea that even the best source material often needs to be "adapted" for TV in order to make for a good TV show. But when any show starts giving up the things that apparently made it good so soon into its run I usually don't have too many high hopes for it. *shrugs* -
It's kind of hard to tell for sure because we can only see the front end but I think that #107 is "Amee" from Red Planet.
At least that's my 2 cents for this.

Quote:I always figured that since the Devs pretty quickly nerfed all of the original "double-time" Day Job badges that if they ever added any new ones they'd be pretty well tested to be "single-time" only. I just didn't think they'd ever make the same "mistake" again.from what i seen there are none, the one for just being in the zone does not stack with the other 3 which are all like opposite sides of the map
Four more Day Jobs isn't that big a deal - we'll be done with them again before the end of the year.

Quote:Figures.Apparently executive producer and series creator Frank Darabont was fired by executives at AMC.

Well it looks like the chances this show is going to stick closely to the graphic novels just went out the window. I'm probably still going to give the new season a try because who knows they might yet come up with something watchable regardless. -
It's a pretty up-to-date pic. It's even got Octus from Sym-Bionic Titan. I'd say after looking over it for a few minutes I recognize at least 2/3 of the them. I like how there's a few "in-jokes" with the way some of them were posed. For example it's funny that the blue-haired Teenaged Robot is holding the 790 robot head from Lexx.

Wow I found Wall-E in about 30 seconds. Beyond that whoever drew this up had -way- too much time on their hands.

Quote:This.I'd rather they stuck two or three branches of Icon in every zone than made trainers into tailors.
Real cities have plenty of stores that sell clothes. Might as well reflect that in-game.
And why would trainers bother with costumes? Might as well let us access the Auction House through them too.

Quote:Yeah I think I'm pretty much done with Hollywood's latest attempt at 3D. I'm at the point where even if you gave me a free ticket to a 3D movie I'd probably use it to sneak into the 2D version of it.even from the trailer I knew that the 3D would be for "ooh pokey in the face, watch this fly out at you" which is pure crap imop.

Quote:Question... meet answer...Why are they still making these? Didn't the last 2 bomb pretty hard?
Quote:Kinda meh... but still, Kate Beckinsale in tight black leather.... mmmmm....Quote:I will second the Kate Beckinsale in tight black leather.....mmmmmm.....nom nom nom......lolQuote:I will still watch it though, because Kate is still sexy as hell in that outfit.

Quote:Whether chopper rotors would liquefy a human or just dice them into several nasty chucks either way there's NO way we'd get something like that in this Teen rated game. We barely even have any examples of blood much less bodies getting mutilated. Sure it might be cool to get a "physics realistic" version of this game someday. But don't hold your breath for it.Actually that's been tested and disproven. Chopper rotors cannot truly shred a human being. While they will in fact make quite a mess of you, they'll also destroy themselves in the process.
Then again, CoX in general runs more on Rule of Cool than realism.

Quote:The computer in this case wasn't even magically "seeing" around corners. Using imaging enhancement the computer was focusing in on a mirror in the picture and "seeing" what was being reflected by it. The irony of this criticism is that computer technology today will allow for this kind of processing - this bit of 30 year old sci-fi isn't even fiction anymore. The photo's aren't meant to be holographic, it is the computer doing the seeing round corners. what on earth made you think it was the photo that was doing all that and not the computer he fed it in to?

Quote:The implication I was trying to make was that if done well a movie with modern special effects can in fact look very good. I wasn't saying Blade Runner needed the overblown "Avatar" 3D treatment. A more appropriate example of what I meant is like what they did with the remastered Star Trek TOS episodes a few years ago. With subtle improvements and tweaking a "remastered" version of the 1982 film would look extra-amazing.Honestly, why is there any reason to imagine that the current CGI would look any better than the models from 1982? The iconic opening shot of the future Los Angeles's landscape, the advertising dirigible, and the police spinners flying past skyscrapers - all done with models - would hardly be improved by getting the "Avatar" treatment.
If done well a Blade Runner prequel or sequel might be nice to see. I'm just less excited about the prospect of a direct remake of the 1982 film. Remaster it? Sure. Remake it? Why?Quote:There are plenty of elements of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? that never made it into Blade Runner's adaptation but that Scott could incorporate into a new film, such as android infiltration of the police force or the sinister demagoguery of the Buster Friendly and His Friendly Friends TV show. (And while "Blade Runner" is a great title, it's something that appealed to William S. Burroughs's sensibilities and has nothing to do with PKD.) -
Quote:Well good or bad we are talking about science FICTION here. There are always elements in the genre that are effectively "impossible" in real life. Getting too hung up on details like this is a little disingenuous. At least the image processing technology we saw in Blade Runner is now a tiny bit more "realistic" than light sabers and warp drive.I never liked Blade Runner. I tried one of the many iterations after the theatrical release (Blade Runner: The Final Extended Unrated Director's Cut 2: This Time We Mean It), but found it to be no improvement.
Most of that is because it is such terrible, terrible science fiction. That stuff just bugged me then and it bugs me now. I could excuse it if it were silly sci-fi like Star Trek or Star Wars, but it's supposed to be serious science fiction, so it needs to be done up right. Plus, plot points hinge on impossible things like the holographic photo. Holographs are cool, but the camera can't see around corners.
The replicants were mentally very childlike. They stressed that point in many ways throughout the story. While you and I might think it'd be kind of silly to put on a clear raincoat and do our hair while trying to get away from someone trying to kill us a child might react weirdly like that. Beyond that I rarely put much stock in actors poking fun at their own characters/performances. Even Sir Alec Guinness absolutely regretted is involvement in Star Wars.Quote:It's also clear that style was uppermost in Scott's mind. Even Joanna Cassidy once made fun of it, saying that it was silly that during a headlong escape from an executioner her character would stop to put on a clear raincoat and do her hair. Annoying.

Quote:Yeah I can completely understand how frustrating it can be when the "respectful of the source material" version of something turns out to be the WORSE version critically than the "stupid derivative Hollywood" version.
- The new smarter cunning Conan 25%
- The original dumb Arnie version 74%
;]
Don't get me wrong critics are not always the best indicator of how entertaining an action or comedy flick will be for the masses, but the first time I saw the latest conan's trailer I knew it would end up around the mid twenties.
In the case of these Conan movies I think I'm familiar enough with the source material to realize that the Arnold version of Conan is probably not the best representation of the character. But when it comes down to simply whether a particular movie is enjoyable as a piece of entertainment or not I think I'd rather a movie be a GOOD movie first regardless of how close it follows the source.
Sometimes there's basically no way to translate a story directly to a movie without some modification to make it work better. Just being "true to the source" will not always guarantee success no matter how cool the source is.

Quote:As I agreed Blade Runner is not the fastest-paced movie in the world. But I'll have to simply disagree with you by saying a Blade Runner remake could VERY EASILY be worse than the original.Blade Runner is one of the most overhyped movies in the entirety of mankind. It is horribly boring and slow. I could only watch it for about 10 minutes at a time before going, "Done". I've seen paint dry that was more interesting than watching Blade Runner.
A new one could not possibly be any worse than the original.
To put its iconic importance into perspective consider this: Even though you don't like it we are still discussing a sci-fi movie that's now almost 30 years old. How many other 30 year old movies do you typically think about good-or-bad in a given day? You may not have liked it, but you really can't dismiss it.
No, it really doesn't. They could easily be making futuristic dystopian film "inspired" by Blade Runner and have it look really cool with 2011 era CGI and that could be great. But a direct remake of the 1982 film? No, that isn't really necessary. -
Quote:Blasmephy! I love both these movies for the classics that they are but even I'll admit I sort of have to be "in the mood" to watch them because they do take some added effort to pay attention to them.I won't say the first movie isn't good, but I've never been able to sit through it the whole way without losing interest, or falling asleep. The only film that perplexes me more in this respect is 2001. I don't think I've ever made it past the 30 minute mark of 2001.
I think it's pretty safe to say that a remake of Blade Runner made today in our reality based, post-MTV world will most likely be much faster paced than the original. Hopefully it will be faster paced -AND- worth watching at the same time.

Various book related spoilers ahead...
Quote:I guess the jury's still out on whether Jason's going to become some kind of Were-Panther on the TV show like he was in the books or not.Pretty predictable that Jason would save Jessica; I thought he'd have to go into panther mode to have the strength to keep her out of the sun, but fortunately Marnie stopped the spell.
As the big-bad of the season Marine/Antonia's pretty much going to have to die one way or the other. I just can't see how Pam is going to be able to tolerate not being able to rip Tara to shreds. Still seems like one or both of them are going to have to die soon too.Quote:Well, it looks like Tara is firmly committed to Marnie's cause, but I doubt Marnie will survive long enough to be able to teach her anything; perhaps Antonia will possess Tara? Or Lafayette?
As starphoenix said Eric is much older than Bill. In fact it's actually kind of weird that they let Bill become the King of Louisiana because of all the main vamps in the books he's actually one of the youngest ones, which makes him very unlikely to hold a kingship anywhere despite his assassination of Sophie-Anne. Oh well.Quote:I don't recall Sookie tripping out like that when she was with Bill, and she had some of his blood, so was Eric's blood that much more potent or does this have something to do with Sookie's faerie heritage?
Actually I like how Hoyt managed to retain more of his dignity and self-respect in the "real" version of the break up scene. I think what it showed us was that Jessica had a selfish, self-deluded mindset about Hoyt and it's good that he was able to stand up to her infidelities and confidently confront her. She was the one screwing him over after all he tried to do for her and he didn't really deserve to be hurt like that. It'll be interesting to see where it goes from here. We already know Jason was willing to sleep with a married woman so we know it's quite possible he'll be "tempted" by Jessica despite Hoyt.Quote:Alright, I'm not sure whether the fake or real confrontation between Jessica and Hoyt was more destructive; on one hand, it really sucks to see one of the nicest characters on the show explode like that, but he's kinda got points.
Now we see that the Creole/baby ghost may have some greater connection to the Bellefleurs than was obvious at first. Maybe the guy involved in that flashback with her was like Andy's father or somesuch.Quote:For a minute there I thought they were going to try to write off Rene's homicidal tendencies to possession, but in any case, I'm hoping they wrap up or tie whatever's happening with that ghost that's stalking Mikey and Lafayette in a hurry.
Well in the books when Debbie came to Sookie's house Sookie quickly ended the confrontation by shotgunning Debbie at point blank range in the face! Obviously the TV show decided to let her character continue on a bit longer but it'll be fun to see whether Sookie ends up killing her anyway.Quote:Man, even though it was awesome to see Sookie and Debbie throw down last season, I really hate rehashing the same plot, which looks like where we're headed.
Eric regains his memories when the spell on him is broken in the books. I figure what we'll see is that Antonia is trying to kill Eric and somehow gets interrupted, which breaks all the spells she frying him with. -
I guess it was about time for that classic to get molested by a remake too.

At least Scott's involved so there's a chance it'll be worthwhile. Obviously modern CGI should make it look wonderful, but they can still easily mess up the casting, story or just about anything else related to it. -
While it's been fun making jokes about this kind of "utopia" the sobering bit is that there are already real world analogs to what this kind of thing might be like.
As part of my job-related travels I've been able to spend a few weeks in Dubai over the past few years. Surrounded by desert it's a sort of city-state where the Emirate royals and uber-rich, living in their near-futuristic 7-star hotels and exclusive green communities, are supported by a separated class of foreign engineering and support personnel from many other countries.
If you're one of the Dubai elite you can basically get away with things the average person can't. I've seen cars tagged with royal license plates flying down the highways doing 180+ kph where the posted speed limits would be like 100 kph and not get stopped by police who were plainly visible watching them do it. Even though prostitution is technically illegal there are certain night clubs which employ literally hundreds of "working" men and women from around the world who can be fairly openly selected and paid for on the spot for a night's "services" in nearby hotels. They'd even started creating man-made islands off the coast where they've been planting multi-million dollar mansions reachable only by their multi-million dollar yachts. I suppose that's easier than building walls to keep the riff-raff out...
Basically if one of these "floating libertarian countries" ever happens I imagine it'll be modeled like a miniature Dubai.

Quote:I figure no matter how well a set of Devs manage to update a MMO a given game's total possible lifespan is probably only around 10 years or so before they basically have to start over from scratch. The technology involved with the graphics and other underlying software are eventually going to become too cumbersome, convoluted and outdated to simply tack on yet another patch. The time will come when even if the Devs of this game -want- to continue they'll be better off creating a "CoH2" than trying to give us Issue such-n-such.I am still trying to figure out how this game continues to be so enjoyable to me after a bit over 87 months of playing. I thank and congratulate all devs, mods, and fellow players present and past for their role in that and future ones for the next * years.
* I am beginning to wonder if they can just keep updating it so it never ends.
That said it would be amazing if this game could, like once every 10 years or so, recreate itself and continue for decades to come.

I imagine this is "still on the agenda" the same way power pool customizations are. But remember it took them literally years to give us the level of power customization we have now. Basically I've given up holding my breath for things like this. If it happens it'll be a welcome addition to the game. But I no longer expect it or remain upset by the lack of it at this point. *shrugs*

Quote:Paragon Studios would not likely go full month or longer without some outlet to sell their products. That outlet would have to be the Paragon Market of Issue 21. Might be time for your pool to reassess the situation.I believe that in the release pool I alone have September.
Of the rest: 80% has October; 19% Has October or November; and 1% has November or December.
