    Jadkni wins round 1.

    Let Round 2 begin...

    GO!

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't know about all that. Admit didn't follow the whole arguement between the two of em, but I thought I heard a missunderstnding.

Jupiter says a brute can grab and hold aggro using his attacks and not use taunt, and he's right.

Jadkni thought Jupes was advocating dropping taunt and replacing with an AoE, but he wasn't.

    Could be misunderstanding it tho.

Jupes is right.. EVERY attack a brute does pulls aggro and when laired it will be more then enough to keep attacks off the team no matter how much damage they do. I play both brutes with and without taunt.

Last night was on team with great tanking granite that had no taunt and the only time he would lose any aggro to another teamate was when my brute used his taunt.

So in the respect that taunt is a better means of holding aggro is also true like I THINK Jadkni is saying.
If he's saying that taunt is required for bruting then I do not agree.

you dont have to be a granite brute to tank.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I lost you, did I ever say this?

Just to be clear..tanking is the act of getting and holding the aggro to keep attacks off your party is my understanding. pls anyone feel free to correct me on this. Still just because my stalker can tank, it doesn't mean he's good. My words were "I built a pure granite for the uber tank, brute. If you don't think /rock can survive a higher lvl of damage and greater number of spawns, then I can onlty assume your experience with brutes is limited. Iff you checked my PARTIAL list up there I'm sure you will find I have played most sets and combos of those sets to compare.

And pls no "if you build this way or use these sets".. all have access to same IO sets or others.

    [/ QUOTE ]

wasnt disagreeing with you, just pointing out that not only granite can tank well. actually if you are fortunate enough to be /wp with tough and have both a sonic and thermal, or two sonic or two thermal, you now have the same resists as a granite brute without the penalties and far far more regen

    [/ QUOTE ]

    oh lol

That's what confused me, since everything else you said supported what I had said

Try playing your brute like a brute.

Even if I'm not a tank and I can't soak that much damage, I'm still first in for the Fury and the resulting SMASH. I can take an alpha, but I can't flat-out tank. If you did build your brute to the point where you can truely tank, I shudder to think what you sacrificed, and weep for what you are missing out on.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just personal opinion, but I just don't like /rock for brutes.
I did build him pure granite as can see the uber tanking brute as only value a /rock has.
This idea comes from the fact I played him non granite till 47.
Prior to playing him my brutes have been:
    Eternal Predator DM/Elec lvl 50
    EternalKnight DM/D lvl 46
    Savage Warrior Axe/WP lvl 37
    GhostWarrior NRG/NRG lvl 43
    Apocalypse Storm Elec/SH lvl 50
    Apocalypse Fire Fire/Fire lvl 48
    Cpt Vengeance SS/SH lvl 44

many more, but these are my favorite to play. I like good def/res and mass damage.

don't get me wrong, without granite rock is comparible to other sets without their tier 9 . With possible exception of the huge end drain for it's toggles (pots in particular). However in the 40-50 lvl content that I enjoy, set to max and overspawned for solo if possible..the tier 9 power is amust for survival. I can deal with other sets crash, heck most are built they don't notice the crashes. But when /rock bang damage drops -30%, recharge drops -65%.

And I'm sorry I'm not buying the fury makes him do more damage.. /rock gets NO more or less fury then my other brutes. So I'm really not that impressed that fury makes my granite ALMOST do as much damage as my other brutes with no fury.

Is it worth respec'ing to get toughness and weave?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    HECK YEAH!!

I have tough weave on any wp build I make. I look at it as one of the percs of the extra recovery in that set. They fit very nicely with WP and once you get them, when you detoggle those powers in the big fights you notice the diff.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
Really I want to see something that's up there for damage resistance and can run missions on challenge 4 or 5 with no problems.

But my stoner really can't.. And that makes me sad. It actually makes me want to re-roll my character as a tanker. :-/

    [/ QUOTE ]

All my brutes set to 5 somewhere between 7 and 14 (depending on the set.) The only one that uber sucks for high diff soloing is stone IMO lol.. Too dang slow.

I've always thought "Bruting" and "tanking" are two different things.. and if brutings is kill em all before they kill you or your team. Rock falls real short.

Always thought it odd they dropped the ice brute as the -rech in cold slowed enemy attacks and interfered with fury, yet a rock has his own -rech that interferes with fury and that was "OK"
  7. My 2 favs:

Siphon Life.. have few darks and alot of em I put macro on my tray that activates power and says a one liner .
Different for all, but my favorite one is old movie line I hear in my head: "YOUR SOUL IS MINE!"

And my MA loves to finish with the Roundhouse.. that pose after last kill man.. now that's cool.

    edit: er Storm Kick
  8. [ QUOTE ]
my plant/storm is the most fun character i've created, and im running out of server slots . True enough, single target damage is its only shortcommings, which can be alleviated with pool/epic powers. for AoE, it is a sheer monster. I took rock armor on mine, I will herd 2 or 3 spawns of romans, pull them back, throw seeds/roots freezing rain, Vines!.. then carrion creepers! omg the creepers, its like a forest of hurt.

I think creepers gives you more control than people realise. even if its soft control.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And this is the kinda thing that has kept me from making a plant/rad ... already was thinking I might wanna use that slot for plant storm.. 100s of themes spring to mind for that set lol
And everyone keeps spouting how cool it is...

    Dang this altism.
  9. Mind just doesn't fit my playstyle, but when I tried it on Dom that a played to mid 20s I thought it was pretty tough, and I hadn't even got to the good stuff yet. lol

Still, think this is neat idea :

    [ QUOTE ]
give Mind a giant floating brain at tier 9 that spams Dominate and Mesmerize and is surrounded by World of Confusion.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And on topic: I love the look of plants and was thinking I would like to try a plant/rad .. had theme in mind and think they would fit nicely together too from looking at the sets.

I am curious, can anyone name one super hero who has virtually no powers of their own to help themselves but great powers to help others? I mean if a super hero can make other people immune to mind control, shouldn't they also be immune to mind control? The same with fire resistance and cold resistance?
I am just curious where the devs came up with this concept and what super hero/heroine that they based it off of.

    [/ QUOTE ]

There's that Japanese guy in Heroes - not the time-traveling one, but his friend. In the previous season, he got red electric stuff on his hands that made it so when he touched somebody else it amplified their powers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You know, I thought about him, but technically he doesn't fit. He's a hero from a TV series and not a TV show like Batman & Robin that was based on a herp from the comic world.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
Anyway. I honestly hate sets that have little self-benefit. I'm a practical player...sure I love some of the stuff in thermal radiation...but there will be times I want to play alone...that effectively guts a large number of my powers in a solo situation.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It shouldn't now that they made it so easy to change between builds. My thermal solo build rocks as could pickup and stack many pool powers that other chars just don't have room for as they want/need most every power in their set. It's really quite amazing the amount of soloablity a therm gains when being able to stack the tough/weave/CJ/hover/leadership pools/Acro/etc stuff.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
You build your hero villian as you want and can choose to not get your self buffs, but no AT or powersets bar any hero or villian from self buffing powers.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'd imagine the OP is talking about certain powersets such as /Thermal where you can buff and shield your teammates but are unable to do the same to yourself.

This makes certain sets extremely unattractive to soloers. I have a Fire/Therm corruptor, and of the first 5* powers in his secondary exactly ONE of them, the tier 1, is usable if I'm not in a team due to the "Cannot Target Self" rule.

*I can't speak for the latter 4 powers, as I've yet to level up that far.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I love sets like that. They allow you to get your buffs from pool powers much earlier when you make the solo build as you have so many less "must have" powers. Sure you have to build to lvl 6 to start em and won't see many till mid teens but can't think of any Super hero that didn't work towards their powers. Maybe you could say Thor or Isis but an arguement could be made they spent years as archeoligists or whatever before finding the magic item, and even then the powers they began with were less then what they eventually became.

And of course as you truly become a hero you have access to the epic powers. I know it takes a while to get there but even Superman had to spend years living under our yellow sun before devolping his "Super" powers. In an early 80s SM comic I remember a flashback series where Ms. Kent admit that only real sign he wasn't human was the fact he never got a cold. If you think about it, this can also be said: Not very many super heroes in the comic world ever could buff others same as self. Few exceptions like invis girl of FF.. but we have that. (shields) And Green lantern.. but think he also would fall more under defender then blaster and we can makesomething close to him. I can't ever think of a time or even suggested possiblity that the Torch could engulf someone in his flames and instead of roasting them grant them his buffs. Or Spiderman goin hey man, wanna borrow my Elusive buff from my SR set?
  15. [ QUOTE ]
I have been on both sides. any kin that HAS sb should SB when asked for it while on a team. any kin that doesn't sb their teammates is not a bad player. however they are a bad TEAM PLAYER. being on a team means working together as EFFICIENTLY as possible. thus everyone depends on each other and teammates fulfill roles they are best suited for by their build. no one needs SB. so u defensive kins out there don't try to turn this argument into something else. it is just more efficient with SB. there is ALWAYS room for efficiency. ALWAYS.

also, SB is indirectly a high damage power and contributes to more heals, more holds, mezzes, taunts, debuffs, buffs from other players and so on. if a blaster had a high damage power recharging just as fast as SB does, I can say without a doubt they'd use it as often as they can, so why shouldn't a kin look at SB in the same way?

I play a current 49 kin/elec and 38 fire/kin so I know what's I like being demanded of such tasks and I don't mind being asked for SB whatsoever. I've NEVER had a team that was rude to me about it. I try me damn best to keep my team SB'ed on top of FSing, transferencing, healing, siphon speeding (and even short circuiting and thunderballing with my kin/elec) so don't give the excuse there's no time or that your team has no downtime in between groups.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't really play a kin, much, am more brute scrapper, and part time tank. But I can't dissagree more with the poor team player. IMO the poor team player is the one who expects another player to build and play to their tastes and gets mad when they don't. A kin can contribute his share sometimes even more then his share to the party without SB. I do not think it is fair to say they are poor team players for not SBing, just as I would not think that a tank is a poor team player for not picking up taunt as soon as it was available.

Been racking my brains tryng to come up with one and can't not in comic world OR in this game. You build your hero villian as you want and can choose to not get your self buffs, but no AT or powersets bar any hero or villian from self buffing powers. Just got up and wasn't thinking clearly.

Also there is no power that any set has to make another "Immune" to cold or mind control as far as I know.. only buff ressistance
  17. Alot is based off of balancing a MMO game. In this game it was desired to promote a teaming structure where everyone could feel they filled an important valued role.

Unfortunately to make a game like this work many comic world aspects can get lost or screwed up. Like movement suppression. Imagine everytime the Flash threw a punch he lost all his super speed for 30 seconds or whatever or Ironman in flight running from 2 missiles, he shoots one down and is reduced to hover speed .. booooomm looks like the other missile caught him, darn that move suppression we loose more heroes that way.

hmmmmm, maybe I need to investigate and figure out this V verse myself.. kinda like the idea of writing my chars stories.. lest some of them.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to put much time into their stories and backgrounds. Each character eventually crosses paths with the others, so I mean for their stories to be part of something greater in the end. I'm glad you like my work though.

Love that idea, two of my favorite authors growing up did that with their various different series about different heroes and even worlds..yet crossed em and tied em all together.. Michael Moorcock

I agree the backflip animation doesn't make much sense. Plus, the two-fisted smash is used by several other powers, so I wouldn't be against some graphical changes.

I like the overhead smash, specially on guys that don't have one in set. The backflip tho.. wouldn't mind a fix or at least change the name to Tumble Assault or something.. first time I got that power thinking hmm this sounds cool.. went and used it expecting... well I'm not sure but not that.."what the heck was that crazy crap?!"

    Am I bugged?

    [ QUOTE ]
I've had most of those things happen to me before. I think they're bugs in CoH, not in your machine.

And the Streak Breaker uses some complex rules. Depending on whether ParagonWiki is correct or not, and whether I read it right or not, it might be possible to have up to 99 misses in a row with 95% tohit chance. (I really hope that's wrong, but that's what that page implies to me.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ty for the answer and especially the link.
It tells me it counts misses, I wonder if that includes procs? that 10% chance to stun in my punch that misses alot? But if that was reason it fired after I made several hits then it would mean it's not working correctly.. I'll have to watch for it, see if happens again.

As for my missing more times in row then it implies .9 chance to hit allows, I wonder if it counts Auras? My aura was self buffs/target enemy so did not show on combat damage/attack tab. Have to try to figure which of the 3 guys been running lately I was on and see if his aura rolls a to hit chance.
  22. Lord_of_Umbra

    DPS

That's hard to answer as some sets have a power that tops dps charts like ignite for corrupters but the rest of that set it weak. Then there are powers like flare who is also top of DPS charts but most fire skip that for heavier hitters unless they dom.

But over all, looking at the all the powers in the attack chains Mids powerset comparison rates highest DPS to Banes.

Only problem is the MM rating is not accurate as doesn't show pets.. could figure out pets damage then modify that by thier lvl penalty nad # of.. to compare but that would greatly change per lvl (more so then other sets) and take too long for me

I will say MMs are meant to be most powerful and complicated AT in the game from what I understand, so could be. But I think they might be #2...could be wrong but seems to me MMs achieve their superiority by being 2nd best at everything.. they are 2nd best corrs..tanks(can't say brute, I think bruting diff then tanking. But they fill role of brute when is none by tanking.. ie keeping the aggro off the party.)
2nd best doms and one can be said to be 2nd best stalkers (ninja). However my MMs have encountered many AV/Heroes that without insps or temps they could not overcome the regen where my other ATs don't have that problem. Hard to figure how much damage you are capable of when tier one is -5 to 6 lvls what your fighting, tier 2 is -4 to 5, I mean I know there is some math formula to figure dps based on odds of hitting etc... just not smart enough to know what it is
  23. Lord_of_Umbra

    Am I bugged?

Oh and left out another oddity because it doesn't really effect my game and has been doin it for so long. Sometimes my heroes like to malefactor other heroes and my villians like to side kick other villians.

So anyone else had any of these weird things happen?
  24. Lord_of_Umbra

    Am I bugged?

Recently I posted that i've missed 5 times in a row with 95% chance to hit. An exageration but can say I have missed 4 times in a row with 90 something % chance to hit more then once in last few weeks.
I was told Streakbreaker shoulda kicked in .. if it kicks in before miss 4, then it aint workin all the time for me.

In fact, can't say how long ago this was but when first saw the "Autohit forced by streakbreaker" in my combat window, it was being applied to an attack that rolled high enough to hit, and was preceded by at least 3 hits out of the four attacks leading up to it.

Also I read the "chat bug" is fixed, yet often when chatting in game words I type are preceded with dddddddddsssss or may not appear at all while I type them, but later when I go to type new message will appear when I hit first letter.

I have in past changed servers only to be booted by a message that claims I am trying to access the server incorrectly. And once recently that happened while changing chars on same server.

on 4 seperate occasions in last few weeks have logged on to find 5 of my 36 slots missing from the list, or the arrow to enter game is greyed out.

When this happens I can go back to server select re-enter and prob is fixed. However one time when exiting to fix I got booted from the game with a message that there is something wrong with my ..game engine? or something similiar, was only once and was fixed by restarting the game.

Verify files picks up no problem with my game, and my Norton 360 is current and says I'm virus free. So what's goin on?

Is it me? The game? or..

I mean if I had a dollar for everytime I wooshed like 5 times in a row with my combat window saying 95% chance to hit you rolled a 97.6% or whatever.. well I'd buy you all a free couple months of game time

    [/ QUOTE ]

That doesn't happen. If you miss one attack that has a 95% chance to hit, and your next attack has a similar chance, the Streak Breaker will force it to hit. At most, with a 95% chance to hit, you will miss every other attack, but that would mean you are the unluckiest gamer in the world.

    [/ QUOTE ]

ooo someone who know about streakbreaker, been wondering what it was since first saw it in combat tab. But it's name implied to me it works how you seem to be implying it works... I have missed (perhaps not 5) but can say 4 times in row many times.. my entire attack chain and the combat window claimed all but 1 attack were 95% chance to hit.

The time I first saw the line Autohit forced by streakbreaker (or whatever) it confused me. for it applied to an attack that rolled high enough to hit and was preceded by 3 attacks that also hit. Is it/ was it bugged? or am perhaps I bugged? lol
