  1. Please use this thread to discuss the below announcement.

We have recently revised the Message Forum Rules and Guidelines that govern conduct on the Official City of Heroes Message Forums. We have worked to condense the rules to a more straightforward single list and to make them more straightforward and comprehensive. Everyone is encouraged to review them.

Click here to view the revised Message Forum Rules and Guidelines.

I want to publicly acknowledge Moderator Koschej for doing much of the work on our revised rules. Should anyone have questions or desire clarification about the rules, please post here or send a private message to any of the City of Heroes Community Team: <ul type="square">[*] Lighthouse: Community Manager[*] Ex Libris: Community Coordinator[*] Niviene: Community Moderator[*] Koschej: Community Moderator[/list]We're working hard to promote the City of Heroes Community and make the Official Message Forums a great place to visit!
  2. Welcome to the Official City of Heroes® Message Board! We hope you enjoy your time here discussing the game and getting to know your fellow gamers.

The primary function of this message board is to provide an area for constructive player interaction and also to submit feedback to the development and publishing teams behind City of Heroes.

Please keep in mind that this is a board solely dedicated to City of Heroes and City of Villains®. We would like to keep this board City of Heroes and/or City of Villains specific, and therefore encourage you to participate in other message boards available on the Internet should you wish to participate in non-game or other game related discussions.

We have created the following list of message board rules and guidelines to keep this an enjoyable environment for us all. Violations of these guidelines may result in your removal from this message board and/or potential suspension (or permanent closure), of your City of Heroes and/or City of Villains game account.

The following are the Rules and Regulations of the City of Heroes/City of Villains forums.

    1. You must have an active City of Heroes/Villains game account to post on our forums

Your forum account is linked to your game account. If you are suspended or banned from the game, you will not be able to post on the forums. As such, you are responsible to follow not only the forum rules of conduct but also the City of Heroes User Agreement and Rules of Conduct you agree to when you enter the game. If you are suspended from the message boards, your game account will be reviewed and you may be subject to a ban from the game, as well.

    2. Abuse and disrespectful behavior are not tolerated.

The purpose of the forum is to provide a platform for the exchange of ideas. Occasionally, conflicts may arise when people voice opinions. Be courteous when disagreeing with others. Debating the opinion is appropriate, however criticism against the originator of the opinion is not allowed. Disrespect can be construed as flaming, trolling, harassing, profanity, abusive language or abbreviations, personal attacks, racial, religious, ethnic, sexual slurs, or similar behavior/language.

This applies to both “public” threads and private messages.
    • Flaming is defined as posts which are designed to personally berate or insult another.
      • Trolling is defined as deliberately posting derogatory, inflammatory comments/threads in order to bait other users into responding. Trolling or accusing someone of being a troll is also a form of trolling and is not permitted.
      • Posts similar to “Moderator Notified” or “Needs thread lock” are discouraged, as these types of posts are a form of trolling. If a thread is in violation of the forum rules, use the notify moderator button or PM a moderator directly.
      • Personal attacks include, but are not limited to insulting a poster directly:
Example: “You are stupid, you suck, and you should [censored].”

The above are examples of behavior that is not tolerated on the forums. Directly attacking another poster will result in a warning. If the behavior persists, further consequences may be enacted against your account in our sole discretion.

      3. No posting of personal information

Please respect the privacy of other City of Heroes/Villains players and do not give out information such as phone numbers, addresses, email addresses, etc.

      4. Private communication between Customer Support, NC Interactive, Inc. (“NCsoft”) members, moderators and administrators of the forum and the forum users is not to be made public on these forums or by any other venue.

You are not permitted to publicize any private correspondence (including petitions, email or PM correspondence, in game chat logs, etc.) received from any of the aforementioned without permission. As such, warnings and bans are not to be discussed on the forum. Such matters shall remain private between the NCsoft and the user. Questions or comments concerning warnings and bans will be conveyed through e-mail or private messaging. Likewise, discussions regarding moderator actions are not permitted on the forum. If you have questions regarding a post or thread that has been removed or subject to other moderation, feel free to contact a moderator to discuss it.

      5. Non-Constructive posts are prohibited.

Below is a list of examples of non-constructive posts. As a rule, non-constructive posting is not permitted.
        • Spam is considered to be repetitive posting of the same topic or text or nonsensical posts that have no substance and are often designed to annoy other forum users.
        • Bumping posts in order to keep them near the top of the list is also prohibited. Likewise, the use of "/signed" posts are discouraged in that it doesn’t engender constructive discussion.
        • Do not create threads/posts to “petition” or “Lobby” for game features, additions, changes, or other issues. You may post suggestions and/or ideas to the boards, but you may not create a ‘petition’ for others to sign. This is bumping in disguise and will not be allowed. Lobbying is continually bringing up the same topic repeatedly in numerous different threads or as an off-topic post in official threads to get developer attention. This form of posting is not permitted.
        • Pyramid quoting is a response to a forum thread which contains the quotes of four or more previous posters, sometimes with additional spaces added unnecessarily.
        • Cross posting is not permitted. As a courtesy to others before beginning a new thread, please look to see if an active thread on that topic has already been established using the Search feature. If so, place your comments there instead. Multiple threads on the same subject clutter up the forum needlessly and many good ideas may be lost. Use the Search link to keep discussions about one topic to one thread only.
        • Negative feedback can be very useful, provided that it is presented in a civil, factual manner. Tell us what you don't like and why and how you feel it could be improved. Posts that are insulting and rude may be deleted, no matter how valid the ideas behind them may be.
        • A rant is a post which is long-winded, redundant and filled with angry, non-constructive comments. A free exchange of ideas is essential to building a strong sense of community and helpful in the development of the game, but rants are disruptive and incite flaming and trolling. Please post your thoughts in a concise, clear manner and avoid going off on rambling tangents
        • "NERF X!" threads are removed for much the same reason as "I'm leaving" threads. They can turn into threads with little or no constructive information.
        • No thread necromancy. Necro-posting is responding to an old discussion thread and is a form of thread ‘bumping’. If you wish to discuss an considerably older topic, create a new post and link to the older discussion.
        • False obituary threads are considered highly improper, and knowingly posting false news of a player’s real-life death may result in a ban of both your forum account and your game account.
        • Threads that make threats or use other combative language are not allowed. If you ask a question on the board, be aware that questions on our boards are most commonly answered by the community. Demands for answers from NCsoft are not permitted, however we may often address some questions and concerns with an official topic. In the event of legitimate emergencies, or other unprecedented scenarios, we will endeavor to provide comments, even if it is only to state that there is no officially available information.

        6. Do not post about exploits.

Exploits should be reported through the proper method by filing a report at the PlayNC Support page . Issues discovered while playing on the Training Room test servers should be noted in the Training Room forum. Discussions about unverified problems in the game can cause unnecessary panic in the community. When there is an issue the community needs to be aware of, we will make an official statement about it.

        7. Impersonating another forum user, moderator, volunteer, administrator or NCsoft employee is strictly prohibited.

You are expressly forbidden from impersonating anyone else, including those named above, on the forum or in the game, even in jest. This may be grounds for permanent loss of your PlayNC® account.

        8. Compare/Contrast and Off-topic threads.

All of these forums fall under the general topic of City of Heroes. However, we do allow a wider variety of discussion topics in the Comic and Hero/Villain Culture form and on the server forums.
Non disruptive off topic discussion in those forums fits with the community of posters who frequent them. Compare or contrast threads about MMO games that typically result in flame wars of dissenting viewpoints are not permitted, however constructive discussion about MMO games is allowed at the discretion of NCsoft in the above mentioned Comic and Hero/Villain Culture forum. Likewise, political, religious, real world topics or any non City of Heroes topics that are volatile or disruptive are discouraged and can be removed at our discretion.

        9. You may not post advertisements.

Advertising on these forums are discouraged, specifically posts that advertise a transaction for real money or any post that discusses an action prohibited by the User Agreement are not allowed.

        10. Avoid using profanity.

Profanity in any form is discouraged. Using any means to bypass the profanity filter (for example: partial masking, such as asterisks or punctuation marks) is prohibited.

        11. No proxy posting; no account hopping to evade suspension.

Posting on behalf of a suspended user is not allowed. Working around a ban through other people’s accounts, trial or secondary accounts to continue posting is also prohibited and may incur an extension of a current ban. You are personally responsible for your conduct on the forums. If you create a new account to continue posting because another account was suspended, any forum and/or game accounts involved will be permanently suspended. Forum and/or game bans apply to a person, not specifically an account. Threads designed to announce, appeal or contest a forum or game banning decision on behalf of a third party will also be removed without notice

        12. No Legal Action threads.

Using the forums or PMs for encouraging, promoting, endorsing, or inciting any kind of legal action against anyone is strictly prohibited. Such content will be removed, and the author's posting privileges may be permanently suspended as a result.

        13. Official Threads

Official threads are a thread started by a City of Heroes/City of Villains representative for the discussion of a specific topic. These may have special instructions in the original post. Please review the original post and follow any instructions given. Further, if there is an Official Thread about a topic, please do not post other threads about this topic. Instead, post your comments only in the official thread.

        14. Posting Sensitive Information covered by an NDA or Beta Agreement.

Please do not post any information on these boards that refers to any information covered by a game’s NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement) or is proprietary information of any party. Any info about a game or third party covered by an NDA or Beta Agreement that is posted will be removed and the poster can be banned from the forums. Further - if the game is an NCsoft game beta, the post will be removed, and your account of the NCsoft beta of which you broke the Beta Agreement can be closed.

        15. Player Generated Content

We do not host screenshots, signature pictures, or other images on this message board, however we do host SG and Event Fliers, our policy on those can be found here . You are more than welcome to link to images hosted in other places, as long as they are of an appropriate and non-offensive nature and/or do not otherwise infringe the intellectual property rights of any party. Below is a list of examples of what is not permitted.
          • Images which are: sexually explicit, harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive; excessive obscene or vulgar language; images that illustrate illegal activity.
          • Avatar icons are allowed as long as the images are below 20kb in size. Avatars that are overly annoying, disruptive or in NCsoft's sole discretion found in poor taste will be removed. We encourage users to select an avatar that reflects their character in the game or made from a screenshot from the game.
          • Links to images that are inappropriate will be removed immediately and you will be contacted for breaking the forum rules.
          • Words that would be censored by our bad word filter are not allowed in images either.
          • Copyrighted, proprietary images, as well as images that do not belong to you (i.e. Personal photographs or artwork without permission of the creator) are also forbidden.
          • Signature Images are allowed, however they must be limited to 600x120 pixels AND less than 150kb

          16. Zero Tolerance Policy

Immediate suspension or bans from the forum can result from any of the following:
The posting of pornography; discriminatory remarks which are sexually explicit, harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive; excessive obscene or vulgar language; posts which discuss or illustrate illegal activity; providing links to sites that contain any of the aforementioned.

          17. Proprietary forums

The City of Heroes/City of Villains Message Forums are private message forums administered by NCsoft. All message board content is allowed at the discretion of NCsoft. NCsoft reserves the right to remove any message board content at will without notice for any reason at our discretion.

          18. Copyright

We will respond to clear notices of alleged copyright infringement. For more information or to file a DMCA request, please visit our copyright page.
  3. Recently, we’ve seen activity by several forum posters to deliberately target other threads and encourage others to troll those threads. This is behavior that is not allowed. From the forum rules:

    [ QUOTE ]
    1. Abuse will not be tolerated.

No flaming, trolling, harassing, profanity, abusive language or abbreviations, personal attacks, racial, religious, ethnic, or sexual slurs.

This applies to both “public” threads and private messages. Do not link out from a post or private message to these types of content.

Flaming is defined as attacking others in harsh, personal terms.

Trolling is defined as deliberately posting derogatory, inflammatory comments/threads in order to bait other users into responding.

Personal attacks include, but are not limited to insulting a poster directly:

EX: “You are stupid, you suck, and you should [censored].”

Directly attacking another poster will result in a warning. If the behavior persists, you will be banned.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Such actions create a hostile posting environment that does not promote the positive, constructive discussion that is desired on these forums.

In response, we have taken steps to suspend several of the users who engaged in this activity. All of the users who have had their accounts suspended had previous warnings not to engage in this, or similar, behavior. Additionally, we have provided warnings to the remaining parties who were involved. While we regret the necessity of these actions, we are firmly committed to providing a friendly and fun forum posting experience here on the City of Heroes forums.

Should you come across a post you feel is in violation of the forum rules, rather than taking the bait and posting a scathing comment in reply, please make use of the "Notify Moderator" button that can be found in the lower left hand corner of each post. We appreciate everyone’s input and helping to stay constructive on the forums.

Personally, I'm hoping to see a merging of the EU and US servers.

But that's been a pet peeve of mine for years.

I wouldn't mind seeing this either.

I would really like to see this happen as well.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just FYI that this isn't very likely. NCsoft Europe is a separate entity from NCsoft North America and the business dividing lines don't lend themselves to such a merge.

Now make it so that people who signed up for Red or Blue Forums can post on either!

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's most likely just an issue of cookies on your local machine. If you can't actually log in to one of the skins, it's a bug, and you should probably PM Ex Libris or Lighthouse to get it fixed.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It happens with all the computers I log into. And my boyfriend has the same problem.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's just weird. There is no Red or Blue forum. There is just the forum. The color is just a skin. You can use whichever one you want. I don't know why either wouldn't work for you. It's certainly not a universal problem.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not quite. When I'm logged into the City of Villains red-side forum, and follow a link that has cityofheroes in the url, I'm blue side and no longer logged in.

If you post a link without the boards.cityofheroes.com part, the system will default to your colour, but nobody seems to do/know that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Be sure to log in on the blue side and save your password on that side. They are basically 2 separate forums and not just skin changes. It's something we want to improve in the future, but you should be able to work around it.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
So this applies again like what we had last year or is it only just restating what happened last year? For example, if I some how find CoH or CoV by itself will it still be a standalone game?

    [/ QUOTE ]

What happened last year (as announced here) was giving all existing and former players who only had one side (CoH for example, but not CoV) was the other side. However, this didn't apply to any boxes sitting on store shelves. Now, if you find a CoH box and buy it, you get the other side. No, you don't get the Good vs. Evil Item Pack but you can do all the stuff with the other side.

Pretty good time to pick up a retail box, or get your friend who's been thinking of playing with you to pick up a retail box - and get the other side for free!
  7. Please use this thread to discuss the following announcement

It’s All Access for City of Heroes and City of Villains
NCsoft readies the number 1 super-powered MMO for more.

There is a reason for the rejoicing in Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. It is official – NCsoft has completely merged the two games into one game universe. All current subscribers who only had one of the games (City of Heroes or City of Villains) now have access to the features of both games. Additionally, all City of Heroes and City of Villains games for sale at retail or online will grant access to both games.

This is the final step needed in preparing the IP for future projects, to be announced later this year. Paragon City and the Rogue Isles have always been a part of the same game universe. When City of Villains launched in 2005 as a stand-alone game, it did not launch with an extra subscription fee, so there has always been this feeling that they are closely related. What’s different here is that NCsoft has taken down the barrier where players had to have a City of Villains serial code to make a villain, and vice versa. Now, it doesn’t matter if you bought Heroes or Villains, you can make characters from either faction and experience their unique game content. Additionally, Heroes now have access to base building, which was previously only available if you had purchased City of Villains.

“In setting the stage for our upcoming plans for the IP, we felt the time was right to truly consolidate the City of Heroes and City of Villains universe,” said Brian Clayton, General Manager and Executive Producer. “We have removed all restrictions that were created when City of Villains launched in order to make way for some really cool content and features we have in the pipeline. This is an evolution of the IP that lays the foundation for what’s to come.”

The most recent game update, Issue 12: Midnight Hour, launched in May and included a wealth of features, including a new Greek and Roman inspired zone, Villain Epic Archetypes, Powerset Proliferation, as well as more character slots so that players can try out the new character powers and Archetypes.

“We know that character variety is one of our greatest strengths and that’s why our players love to create new characters” said Matt Miller, Lead Designer. “Even former players who reactivate will be pleasantly surprised to see new open character slots waiting for them.”

Uniting the City of Heroes universe enables the development team to focus on other features slated to come in future installments. Improvements to Supergroup Bases and raids, an offline character reward system, and the previously revealed Mission Maker are just some of the systems that will see the benefits of a unified City of Heroes game.

  9. Please use this thread to discuss the below announcement.

If you haven’t noticed, we are gearing up for our next Double XP weekend. We wanted to touch upon a few things regarding the event:

    Timing:
The event will start following our normal Friday maintenance period on July 18th and go through the evening of July 20th.

    Server Caps:
Given the broad appeal and player interest in the Double XP events, it is possible that our most populous servers (usually Freedom and Virtue) may hit the server population cap. In anticipation for the coming Double XP weekend, we have recently increased our server cap; however it is still possible that they will cap. To provide all players the best play experience, we put a hard cap on just how many people can log into any one server. Should the server cap, it will show 3 grey dots at the server select screen and have a pop up message of “Full” when you hover your mouse over the server.

    Reactivation Problem:
For players who are considering reactivating to take advantage of the Double XP weekend, we want you to be aware of a current issue with reactivation that we are working to resolve. It is possible that a newly reactivated account can experience the limitations of a Trial Account for a brief period of time (usually 24 hours or less). While the percentage of this happening is low, it can still happen. We encourage anyone who is interested in reactivating to do so now to avoid the possibility of encountering this difficulty.

We encourage anyone who is adversely affected by this reactivation issue to contact PlayNC Customer Support.

We’re looking forward to a fun and [/b]Freem!!! Double XP Weekend!

  15. Hey gang,

We had some follow up with the good folks at Gametrailers.com and it looks like any submission problems are resolved. Please let us know (or post to the Gametrailer.com forums) if the problem is persisting.

I've only been on CoX and had some of my pieces removed. I deleted a toon to re-work it a while ago and saw that they took away the glowing eyes options with the ability to color the eyes/glow.

That was a little while ago and my main beef...the scars have healed but the pain still lingers...the horror...the horror...

    [/ QUOTE ]

You can still get the glowing eyes. For example, you want a Ninja with red eyes. Make your ninja, then go to the face section and choose Supernatural Face 13 (that was the one that had the glowing eyes before). Previously, you couldn't have that face and anything else on top of it but the glowing eyes. Now, you can, through the submenu under it, choose from a whole host of options, including Supernatural Face 13, which lets you then tint the color of the eyes.

Here's a picture of my red eyed ninja (ok no snickering at my costume choices! )

Many of the items changed in the costume creator are done to provide more flexibility, not to remove things.

    Hope that helps!

  19. July 10th marks the fictional anniversary from City of Heroes lore of Marcus Cole and Stefan Richter discovering the Well of Furies in 1930 and the creation of the two most pivotal characters in City of Heroes: Statesman and Lord Recluse. This date was publicized in the recently made available 4 year anniversary calendar and is also chronicled in the novel The Web of Arachnos.

For this anniversary, City of Heroes player, fan and machinima video creator, Dark_Respite (aka Samuraiko Productions) created a video to pay homage. We thought it was quite nicely done and wanted to bring it to your attention.
