THere is another you I have noticed 2 corruptors do when teamed with a certain brute and that is to stand as far as way from her as possible when fighting CoT as the brute killing there speed boost resource is not a good idea. THis does happen a lot with one brute killing more team members than they enemy
[/ QUOTE ]
If it is HER, then it isn't me ... genericvillain001 is all ... transdimensional demon come to kill all life on earth as it happens. I think I know who you are talking about though. I don't get to team enough with kineticists with my brute for it to be me
I'm assuming english isn't your first language as some of what you say is a bit garbled - speed boost doesn't require an enemy resource to leech off so I'm guessing you are talking about the siphons and other targeted powers - and the point you are making is that brutes (backed up with sipohn power, speed boost, transference and fulcrum shift) kill things too fast for corruptors to reliably target things? Not really surprising... I DO tend to leave things at under 50% alone on the grounds that someone will be scourging it shortly ... but once rage and fulcrum shift kicks in (and you don't stop, so fury never drops) that isn't always so easy. Don't notice anyone complaining about the XP though- I actually have a Brute and a /Kin corruptor and oddly enough most people I team with (regularly or brutes/corruptors I invite or that invite me) have the same set up. Great minds think alike and all that.

[ QUOTE ]
I often team with three Brutes and playing as a defender is definately my best role whilst doing this.
[/ QUOTE ]
No disagreement there - I chose /Kin purely to team up with brutes - the +ENDURANCE, +RECH +DAM works very well with them and in a team with one or more brutes there isn't time to do anything except buff them/debuff the mobs...
I chose Ice as I wanted to be able to solo "a bit". It came as a bit of a shock to me just how effective the combination was (for soloing). -

I'm just the most verbose.

And to Cybercel - base damage of Corrupters greater than defenders? I wasnt aware of this... But anyway, your reinforcing my point. I can build, and I have done, a defender that performs like a corrupter but imo better, since its safer.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not entirely sure which argument we are having now (Kin vs Other sets or Defender vs Corruptor)...
Kin vs other power is going to be a playstyle and attitude thing ...
Defender vs. Corruptor? you play Rad/Rad (from memory) so I suspect the difference in playstyle is less. I think you would be surprised at how little impact the decrease in effeciveness of your secondary has compared to the increase in effectiveness in the primary and the change in inherent. I suspect a Rad/Rad corruptor with an identical build to your defender would easily out damage you with little additional risk. I'd be happy to start one to compare if needed - my main in the UK beta was a Rad/Rad and it was merely waiting for some friends to transfer from the US (who were waiting for the "soon to be available" transfer that meant I started on a 'filler' alt - light petting. -

Forgot to say a very important thing:
The powers: Power Boost(Energy Manipulation for blasters and Primal Forces epic for trollers)and Power Build Up from the defender's epic and the Vanguard accolade are all VERY important power to have for those in the Holding Group, if possible try and fit them in your build with 3 rec rdx slotted, otherwise thanks for the attention
For info on how to get the Vanguard you can look here!

One minor point ... there's another ancillary for defenders that gives you 2 holds (the mind/psi one whatever it is called that gives you domination and tk) - wouldn't that be more effective? A conitually auto hit recycling hold and an additional ST hold over 2x effectiveness for (90 secs?) every (3 mins?) -
I've skipped Stun which is a fairly common decision
I've given whirling hands a miss as I had death shroud and don't have the slots for another attack - wish I did
I don't have barrage as I've squeezed Air Sup. in to replace it - brawl on auto for fury and the knock down on air sup. is a life saver vs. bosses at low levels... -
[ QUOTE ]
I need to see more Kin in action. Ive seen and played a lot of Kin, and maybe im playing wrong, or seeing the wrong players play. Maybe Kin can be described as an Offender or Offensive Soloable Corrupter build. I'm thinking about when i was paying Nikta last night, and jumping into the middle of a group of 20 or so, mixed Nem spawns. If i was a Kin anything, id be spending too much time on my backside unable to heal or do anything. But even without the crazy knockback of nems, jumpinging into the middle of a spawn of 20 X with a Kin presumably means you start teh encounter with a heal... and then another one...
Also, lets remember, the OP was complaining about Kin in general. Not me Im happy to learn tho, so @chaplain any time if you want to Show me, Pocket D gives that opportunity to compare Corrupters and Offenders atm, could be an interesting exercise.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think the key point is that everybody on the "we are offensive" side that has mentioned a powerset (I think) has taken fire or ice ... neither of which are available to defenders and both of which have tools (Rain/Holds/Massive AoE) that enable you to survive against larger mobs and kill them quickly. So the extra survivability and killing power comes from primaries you wouldn't have open to you as an offensive defender.
Once my brute hits 40 (this week) I'll be ramping up my Ice/Kin, so happy to team up and show you what I'm talking about. -
If it is April, I may start with my Ill/Rad then move on to my Kin/Elec (with the psi ancillary, 3x as many holds as my controller. Strange but true).

Dont reroll, ill get slammed for 'dissing' kinetics, but i dont beleive it fits the 'offender' or 'offensive corrupter' role too well. Its a great team buffer tho... so find some pals and excite them with speed boost and fulcrum shift.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh, I can be plenty offensive
And once the level cap is raised to 50, you'll spend more time with FS than without it on the way to 50... and if it can affect blizzard ... heheheh -
[ QUOTE ]
The recharge for Transferance will still be quite long, and as Kinetics is a busy set you'll quickly drain your end and the smaller +end from Transferance won't be able to keep up with it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Really? I've got three Kins with transference and none of them suffer with that (although 2 of them are defenders, which may make a difference?) The only time it really hurts is when it misses more than once in a row - or I'm too busy to include it in the spam chain. Having said that I haven't reached 50 with any of them, so you probably have a better feel for it -
[ QUOTE ]
"see something to pity" be better? Whatever. I've had a long day, okay?
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry to hear that - I wasn't having a go, you are normally extremely good at getting your point across (if that's a good thing or not is debatable...) and I've also had the day from hell (top tip, when running into a card shop 2 minutes before catching a train and filling out the card and unwrapping the cuddly toy ready to deposit the morning of valentines day, make sure the card does NOT say "to my girlfriend" when giving it to your wife and ideally the cuddly toy should not be a pitbull with boxing gloves on - the day only got worse if you can believe that), so I wasn't sure if I was misinterpreting it...
in which case my point stands. But then again, even my heroes are pretty damn callous and cynical .... (for an example think: Doctors save lives. That doesn't necessarily make them nice people and or terribly empathic) -
[ QUOTE ]
The thing is, the only thing another villain is going to see if they find out that Black Tom 'thinks' he's doing it all for good is pity.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't understand this bit - should the word 'see' be 'feel'? If so (and it may not be), there are a whole range of things the other villain could feel - contempt, amusement, a burning desire to drag the fallen hero into the pits of despair ... you name it -

[ QUOTE ]
Similarly, you really shouldn't need to slot anything you get past transference for endurance reduction - I'd also slot transference for recharge over endurance as you normally should have enough mobs for it to not be an issue (that's purely personal preference).
[/ QUOTE ]
Transferance is a single target power, and will only give you endurance from one mob. Therefore I highly recommend 3xEndRec.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ah sorry. I was getting confused between this and either FS or end gaining powers from a tanker/brute set ... the slotting advice stands, as if you slot all for recharge and have hasten and siphon speed both three slotted for recharge, you're going to find it recyling so fast there's always something about to leech off. (but that is personal preference). -
I have a lvl 15/16 Mind Energy Dom I could bring along if there's space (and I get back from church in time, which is not guaranteed)... would be nice to hook up with you guys again (plus TK is really useful on the first SF).
Plus I should have my shiny new computer by then! -
Overall a good solid build. I'd question the jump in inertial reduction (and the end reduc for that matter) - doesn't really need them.
Similarly, you really shouldn't need to slot anything you get past transference for endurance reduction - I'd also slot transference for recharge over endurance as you normally should have enough mobs for it to not be an issue (that's purely personal preference).
Slot soectral wounds for accuracy and damage - it is your bread and butter attack and you want it to hit AND maximise the amount of damage that doesn't heal back. Bump up the accuracy in blind for the same reason.
Think about picking up deceive as a very end efficient hold (sort of) - my guide goes into a little bit of detail on that.
Remove the extra end reduc from assault - siphon power is more efficient for you. Don't run assault until after transference if need be. -
[ QUOTE ]
End result is that multiple-Controller teams are really, really, insanely fun.
[/ QUOTE ]
Fixed that up for ya. -
I'm guessing you are AR/Kin, although I can't be sure.
Kin needs to get up to SO lvl before it is great. Can't speak about AR.
I do not have any problems soloing with my Ice/Kin, Ice/Cold, Fire/Dark .... I have a couple of others but can't remember what they are... -
I have an EM/DA and it is a lot of fun (but requires toggle management - you do learn what each mob type in CoV does
If you hare comfortable with end management I'd suggest giving it a go. If that doesn't appeal, I'd steer clear.
I've had an Inv/SS tanker and I suspect a Brute version would be a lot of fun... and sort of the "classic" brute (rage is great btw).
I really don't think there IS a bad brute primary/secondary (some are obviously better than others but I think that is down to personal preference OR waiting for a defence buff...). -
Already did, I play odd hours (and never the same set week on week) so I haven't seen you on whenever I've been about - but I will keep an eye out.
-
Scratch that, replace 1 of the dam with an acc and one end reduc - also slot shields for end reduc over resist to start...
-
[ QUOTE ]
Just started a dark dark brute, my 1st melee toon, but having major problems with endurance, any hints on slotting? (I can't afford DO's yet) And why have I got so little Inf!The must let heroes and villains trade!
Powers currently and slots:
Shadow punch, 2x damage 1x accuracy
Shadow Maul, 2x damage 1x accuracy
Smite, 2x damage 1x accuracy 1 end reduce
Siphon life, 1x heal 1x damage 1x end reduce
Taunt, 1x taunt
Dark embrace, 2x resistance
Death shroud, 1x taunt 1x end reduce
Murky cloud, 2x resistance
If any hints on how to improve for using up less endurance, or any other way, please let me know.
[/ QUOTE ]
Swap everything in bold for end reduction.
Use fury to generate damage - the benefit from fury is MUCH greater than TOs (or DOs) - I'm 39 and I have a grand total of 6 Damage SOs.
Keep on rolling and the fury takes care of damage for you. Acc, End reduc and recharge first - damage last. -
Yep, that was them
Now, where did I put that gaffer tape?
It is no joke to say I am seriously considering getting another account and starting a brute and kin 'over there' and double teaming all the time, this combo is THAT good. -
[ QUOTE ]
All the time the brute is cleaning house with massive damage. Wonderful. Even better than having a scrapper buddy.
[/ QUOTE ]
You wait till you have transference and fulcrum shift in the mix -
I have an Ice/Cold and while it is great, it is a very slow starter (pun intended) ... you have a couple of fantastic early powers (infrigidate/benumb) but have to wait until the late 30s before you become truly amazing (pre-30s it trails far behind Kinetics, whereas afterwards I'd say it is very close).
Bit of a PvP monster, so I'm surprised they aren't more common (I suppose lack of a heal might have something to do with that).
My brute once teamed with a kinetics AND a cold... that was silly (and the fastest XP I've ever seen) -
[ QUOTE ]
*/Dark is an end hog, Fire/* chews through blue as well. If you can make it without Stamina, I'd be massively surprised.

Take a /Kin corruptor and a length of gaffer tape ...
