Something else I forgot to comment on...Shield Defense.
I don't think there is a pool, currently, unchoosable by any AT. Pools are designed to be used by all, right? So this would be the only pool that excludes something? You're trying to set a lot more precedence with this set than you think... -
Quote:No response is ever necessary. This isn't an online class where we have to log in a certain number of hours here. Conversely, I should be free to reply how I want to so long as it's following the forum rules and pertains to the subject. Are you implying neither of those are the case?@Leo_G: I don't think that response was necessary. I do think the point of a suggestion thread is to post how we envision these features being implemented. They 99% most likely won't be implemented how you, myself, BrandX or any player imagines they will be. Rather, they'll be implemented the way the developers see fit (even if laying down a baseline idea is probably in the best interest, which Brand did). Ergo, tearing apart the thread and the initial idea with a large wall of text is kind of silly.
And I'm not tearing anything apart. I'm discussing it. If we were not to discuss it, fewer people will bother clicking the thread, reading it and the idea simply dies off until another thread is made.
Lastly, a wall of text implies I did not form paragraphs and making it difficult to read. If you cannot handle reading more than one paragraph pertaining to the subject, that is your problem.
Quote:I saw what Leo was saying. I can see how he might think I was going for some power epic. I really wasn't. Also, it's Dual Pistols, playing multiple Dual Pistols, I wouldn't think it's really that powerful.
Quote:However, I do think giving the Epic Pool Hail of Bullets, and basically making it a clone of Spring Attack is a good idea, and not over powered at all.
My point was the pool having HoB *and* Bullet Rain. And having Executioner's Shot *and* Dual Wield.
Quote:For one, one would need to draw the pistols everytime to use it. It also to my knowledge would have a longer animation.
Quote:Would it be an additional AOE? Yes. But seeing as how any melee could take Spring Attack for additional AOE, I really don't see that being a problem.
But that's more a tangent. But just because the melees can get more AoEs isn't an excuse to open the deluge of AoE for them. IMO, the rangers are suppose to be the best at AoE because of the area. That isn't the case because melees will demand that advantage be overturned by herding.
Quote:I also don't see why the sets have to mirror each other. They already have sets that don't stick to the common Hold/Immobilize/Range ST/Range AOE/Utility Power.
Body Mastery doesn't follow that formula but it has overall fewer attacks and passive utility. Darkness Mastery has mainly AoE but they're all cones that one is better to use at range for full effect. And the patron pools follow their own formula with different advantages and shortcomings. I don't see any shortcomings or compromise with your proposed set. Redraw is hardly a shortcoming.
Quote:So with that, a new suggestion that can combine things a bit.
1) Double Tap - Dual Wield Animation (1.67sec animation) - ST Disorient - Pistols Level Damage with 9.75 END/10s Recharge/80ft Range
2) Executioner's Shot - ES Animation (of course) - ST KD (I don't say KB because many melee types hate KB, but I could live with it, could even give a chance for additional KB and this is merely suggested because Leo mentioned theme of the power) - 20-40ft Range (lower range is merely a suggestion if perhaps it is to powerful) - Dual Wield Level Damage with 10.66 END/32 Second Recharge
There, two single taget mez powers, Disorient and KD.
3) Bullet Rain - Double the END/RCH of Bullet Rain - Making it in the 2nd tier isn't bad really, as this suggestion is meant to keep the Epic Power Pool the same for ALL Melee ATs, and Brutes/Tankers have AOEs in the 2nd Teir.
4) One With The Gun - Passive +ToHit (or +ACC)/ENDREC or +DMG or nothing and maybe +Perception.
Ranged AOE and a Utility Power
5) Hail of Bullets - Same stats as Spring Attack, no teleporting, maybe get rid of the +DEF aspect. Can even lower the radius.
But that said, I am not against the theme as I love my DP to death. But to make another, alternative and quirky suggestion:
1. Double Tap (Dual Wield's animation) same dmg as Pistols with a chance of KD.
2. Honorary Execution (Executioner's Shot's animation) Dual Wield's damage, PBAoE mag 2 fear (8ft) and grants foe temp power for 5 seconds that casts a mag 1 fear around itself upon defeat (8ft).
3. Trick Load (part of Piercing Round's animation) Self +ToHit, chance to recharge any of the pistol attacks instantly. 60 sec rech.
4. Bullet Dance (Hail of Bullets' animation) Bullet Rain's dmg, 10ft range, 5 target cap, 90 sec recharge. Grants 20% def to self for 15 seconds. It's a mirror of Shadow Meld but is also an attack.
5. Bullet Rain (same power but 2x the recharge) Grays out Trick Load for 15 seconds. -
Quote:This is the fact that I don't particularly get when people mention not liking the NR animation.NR fits perfectly with Stalkers, and I don't know what you guys hate, but the animations are great, especially if your character has weapon-based power sets.
Question: with a weapon drawn, do you actually *like* the standard running animation? -
-
Quote:I don't condone paying to be overpowered.Likely, buuuut, I did say for my suggestion, I'd be willing to pay the 800 Points
But I'd sooner pay for an AT that's *balanced* to have blasts and armor than an OP epic that just sets a hugely bad example for the Paragon Market.
Quote:
Dual Wield: Double the END/RCH of DW, with whatever damage they use for the melee AT Epic Blasts.
Quote:Executioner's Shot: The same as DW.
Quote:DW would give KD instead of KB, and ES would lose it's KB entirely. DW would be have the advantage of longer range and a form of defense (KD) where as ES would just be about a power hit.
Quote:DW would keep it's range, while ES would be lowered to 20ft.
Quote:Distinct advantages imo for picking one or the other, or even picking both up. Since one couldn't make a chain with these, I don't see a worry in 2 ST blasts in the set.
Quote:Bullet Rain: See DW! Keep the KD or lose it, but keep it KD over KB.
Hail of Bullets: Double Recharge, +25% END of normal HoB, lower radius to 10-15ft. Lower Damage.
Or even better, keep it inline with Spring Attack (cost/rch/dmg wise), but lose the teleport. Maybe keep the +DEF aspect, but easily loseable.
By keeping it inline with Spring Attack, I really wouldn't consider the power OPed for any of the melees who could just as easily take SA. -
Yes, so in the future, when posters are quoting you asking what the heck "3em2qwj3f3wwq47rs;" means, we'll link them to this post to remind them KitsuneKnight got his eyes gouged out by Statesman's suggestive theme.

Quote:I wouldn't say 'never'. I'm sure, if you talk to enough artists, at least one might come up with a design that'd have passable hair if all you're trying to do is disprove that absolute. And I don't think that goes far enough. A shark head can never have hair if it's done right, or else it isn't a shark.
Heck, it might not even be 'hair'...could be water or scales or fins designed to look like hair for aesthetic purposes. -
Quote:But real wolves *are* cute! Maybe it's the dog owner in me, but an animal bred for proper survival in the wild just looks beautiful and possibly even cute. Of course, that's just my opinion and while I know wolves are still dangerous animals, they can also be loving and adorable at times. As I said, I also like Talbain, but I guess when it comes down to it, I'm just 'defending the honour' of real wolves, as that's what the head you called "cute" seems to be replicating.
Of course, this is coming from someone who has been a fan of tigers since he could walk. I think they're cute and cuddly...you wouldn't want to actually cuddle with one but if it were your friend and it doesn't attack you, that's instant cute, in my book.
Quote:I'm sorry to have to add another vote, here, but as werewolves go that is pretty cutesy. It doesn't help that the way he's posed made it look at first glance like he's carrying an angry plushie purse.
You can think of whatever you like as cute but all cannon/non-fan depictions of Gallon make him out to be non-cute compared to the other characters in the series, or at least in the general definition of the word. And if we're using comparison to determine what's cute or not, compare him to this:
By your logic, Gallon is very un-cute because he's not even close to Squirtle. So on a scale of cute things, Gallon is not very, probably dang near off the edge on the opposite side of the scale. If we're comparing him to ugly werewolves, then I could agree with you that he's comparatively cute...but I'm sure I could find lots of werewolves cuter than him. I'm sure Sam could help me out there -
But he's got a big squishy muzzle, cute little eyebrows, softer plushy looking form, soft fluffy ears nearly a quarter the size of its head, even the cute little freckles on his snout where his whiskers are to top it all off. Talbain doesn't really have eyebrows, just a brow, his snout is narrowed and pointy, his body is hard and ridged, he's got huge shoulder and back muscles, his ears are small and pointy and he practically always looks angry. I guess I'm just defending the honor of my fav fighting star character, because he's bad-*** and nothing else...but I guess I'll take it as a compliment that you think my avatar is cute. Thanks Tenz
But I'm sure it's possible to make him out to be cute (I mean, look at my avatar...) but it starts to not look like the original character. The art from the game doesn't look cute.
Nor does he in the anime...
But to me, he's just cool and bad-***, that's about it -
Quote:Yes, that poor hyphen key...it's rocking itself in the corner muttering something about being violated or nonsense...What did you do, you sick man!!?Cute things do that all of the time in anime, and some of the time in horror. Talbain/Gallon is essentially an anime-pretty-boy-werewolf, with his Hollywood I-just-got-out-of-bed-and-my-fur-still-looks-this-good styling. He's not at the look-at-the-cute-monster-that's-gonna-eat-us level that Sasquatch is, but as werewolves go he's pretty cute - cuter than real, older-than-puppies wolves.
I think I've abused the hyphen enough.
But, to me, the points you make are different definitions.
"Hollywood I-just-got-out-of-bed-and-my-fur-still-looks-this-good styling" = Cool, to me. That and the long bushy whisping tail...sort of like the sash of that ninja from the Sega Shinobi series.
"anime-pretty-boy-werewolf" = sexy. If you think of him that way, I'd be more inclined to that description vs cute. Cute implies adorable...like a puppy, a widdle catgirl, a squirtle or a big-eyes-innocent-looking-want-to-huggle type creature. Talbain's eyes are beady and angry looking, he's lean and sharp and he's riddled with muscles...That's not something I'd go around loving and hugging and squeezing and calling him George.
But you want cute werewolves? *fires up google* I'd consider this a cute werewolf
This is a cute werewolf
This is a cute werewolf
This is also a cute werewolf
Woops, wait a minute. Let me try that again...
Heh, I guess the moral is, cute is more than just skin deep. I suppose it has to do with the context of it and there can be overlap.
*shrugs* I like posting example pictures. It's like a game to me -
Could always proliferate weapon models from the Fire and Ice set to the proposed Thrown Weapons so you can throw flaming or icy implements of doom.
*shrugs*
(shut up, I know it doesn't work like that)
-
Hah, more like..
Dual Wield
Suppressive Fire
Targeting Drone
Piercing Round
Bullet Rain
But that was funny though, BrandX -

What? No actual write-ups of what you're talking about? Boooring...
An opposite set to the Ice Essence Enhancement above...
Fire Essence Origin Enhancement Set =
1. Acc/Dmg/End/Res
2. Acc/Rech/End/Slow
3. Dmg/Rech/Heal/End Mod
4. Acc/Dmg/Rech/Stun
5. Res/End/Heal Chance to Summon Fire Orb, Chance for self +dmg
6. Res/Heal/Rech
7. Acc/Hold/Immob/Rech
8. Dmg/Res/Rech/Immob
9. Stun/Heal/End Mod/Dmg
10. Hold/Slow/Stun/Rech + Foe chance of Fire dmg, Global +ToHit and Fire Resist
Bonuses would be moderate recharge bonus, high fire resistance, enhanced healing abilities and special +dmg bonuses to fire damage only. Slottable in fire powers such as Fire Sword, Flares, Rain of Fire, Bonfire, Cinders, Healing Flames, Flaming Arrow, Demon Summoning mobs and wips, etc. -
Quote:Cute things don't bite your head off and eviscerate your intestines...well, a cute thing *can* do that, but then most likely you'd hit the 'cute' and 'humorous' angles to do it...and there's nothing funny about Gallon (well, a nunchaku using werewolf might be...).I don't know, he looks cute to me. A lot more so than Felicia, with her cloven feet and thighs twice the size of her waist.
Felicia isn't really cute to me either...but then I don't usually associate cute and sexy things together intentionally. -
So nobody wants to post ideas for new categories of enhancements? I remember reading some in the past so I know I'm not the only one who has ideas...

Quote:So you can be utterly wrong in everything you've said so far in this thread? Gotcha.I kinda hope someone does suggest the -kb IO to you....
But I already do educate by the demonstration of proper KB use. I don't even need a wall, hover or hoping around to show that. But as I said before, that doesn't stop prissy whiny gits from getting their panties in a minor twist. This new enhancement just puts fuel on that fire. And how long is it going to take for someone to start suggesting more of these types of enhancements to make that other 'it's unique' argument eventually invalid? -
They don't even serve real Mexican food. And who do you find in the kitchen? Asians probably. Oh, everything's still delicious but it's the principle of the thing!
Whatever happened to good-ol Up Up and Away Burger anyway? -
PS: I think I predict right now, some of those that are so sorely anti-KB will actually carry e-mails full of these KB>KD enhancements and offer them to the offending KBer and if they don't shape up, throw a hissyfit.
Cause they're so 733t, they can afford to just throw around inf. -
Quote:I haven't been kicked for KB either. Sure, I've had a few people bicker or whine when I use Gale or Shockwave and knocked a group off of an Ice Slick or Tar Patch another member was in the process of placing down (instead of using it near the wall I was knocking foes into). I've had people cry when I used Telekinetic Blast a few times and prissy Tankers tell me to take care of stuff I knocked around despite the fact I'm running Dispersion field on them and keeping them shielded. And all of that aside, in the 6+ years I've been playing the game I have never been kicked from a team because of my powers or build. Ever. EVER. So y'know, maybe find people to team with who aren't complete jerks, or maybe the problem lies with you and you need to learn how to conrol your knockback better. I dunno, I don't know anything about you, I'm not casting judgment, just laying out the possibilities. Either way, the fault does not lie with the devs.
But no, I've never been kicked.
HOWEVER...
The *INSTANT* I hear a teammate even *BEGIN* to insist I have this IO even if I don't want it or some prissy tank dictate that I play a certain way just because I don't, there will be hell to pay on these forums. I will link back to the posts in this thread with a bloody vengeance so you better delete these posts now or they'll be shoved back in your face when that time comes.
I know how to use KB and prefer it in some places although I can see the use of this in powers like Tornado or Lightning Storm, but that is a vast price to pay for having my other KB dictated by others more than it already is. -
You know? How about we suggest different types of IO sets we'd like to see in the game and how we'd like to obtain them? You know, like a game!
As for the OP's idea, to me, seems rather unneeded. Not to bag on it, it seems like an interesting for more options, but doesn't really do anything different from what one can do with regular sets (just an in-between regular and purple IOs). Also, I would have sworn Regeneration Aura took regular healing sets. Recovery Aura should take END mod sets...there's no reason it shouldn't and if it doesn't it should be bugged.
Here's my idea:
Essence Origin/Element Origin/Damage Origin enhancements
I like Essence Origin myself but these would be limited to powers (blanket) of specific types. There'd be Ice, Fire, Energy, Negative Energy, Smashing, Lethal, Toxic and Psionic Origin sets...you may be able to expand upon those further with Aqua, Radiation, Light, Shadow, Acid, etc.
Anyway, practically all powers are flagged with a damage type, right? And the ones not flagged could *be* flagged depending on if they fit that set-up thematically or be left out if a power shouldn't have access to some sets for balance purposes...
So powers like Kinetic's Transfusion or Siphon Power may not have a tag innately in these powers but could be given the thematic pass as Energy powers. Powers like Health and Stamina and travel powers may deliberately have no tag so as not to have these enhancements slotted in them.
So, the sets themselves would have 6 slot bonuses like regular IOs but have 10 enhancements within the category to use. This is for balance purposes so you have many options to take advantage of and the set being applicable to the many effects....
Also, these sets should be Attuned, untradable and unsellable. To create these, I'd imagine using special salvage purchased through merits + various invention origin enhancements.
Example Set:
Ice Essence Origin Enhancement Set =
1.Acc/Dmg/End/Hold
2.Acc/Dmg/Rech/Slow
3.Acc/Slow/Rech/Sleep
4.Dmg/Rech/End
5.Slow/Range/End/Sleep/Hold
6.Def/Heal/Rech/Slow
7.Def/Rech/End + Chance for self Numb (+Max HP/Absorb)
8.Def/Heal/End/Hold
9.Heal/End Mod/Rech/Slow
10.Hold/Sleep/Slow Chance for foe -Rech/Cold dmg, Chance for self +res Cold/Slow
What the set bonuses would be, I do not know but I'd probably lean toward heavy resistance to cold damage, moderate defense to cold damage, extra bonuses to boost only cold damage and some other extras.
That'd basically be the gist of the set and this set would be slottable in powers like Frozen Armor, Energy Absorption, Hoar Frost, Frozen Fists, Freezing Rain, Block of Ice, Ice Arrow and Snow Storm.
Of course, since they're more 'catch-all' sets, the enhancement values should be higher than normal yet you're more likely to have some values going unused (like, if you slotted Frozen Armor with 8,7,6 and 10, that'd put you in the yellow% for def but you'd get nothing from the hold, sleep, slow, heal and so forth.) Thematically, an ice flinging hero using these powers would be somewhat protected from cold, slows and have a bit of protection (the absorb).
...aaaaaaannnd, I'm kinda done...maybe if I'll add some other lists (and think of bonuses) for these sets. -
-
Quote:Those drawbacks to Radiation Infection are why the power is available so early and why it has the debuff numbers it has. You cannot hold a power's drawbacks up as a balancing point around which all powers should be balanced toward. A set's combined utility (well, for support sets) is what should be balanced around.RI also has a long animation time and can be prone to being nixed by silly team members who kill the RI target ASAP, KB with Force Bolt, Radial KB the mobs nearby, AS the target etc. Also, on a good team, by the time RI finishes animating, the team is already moving to the next spawn since they already wiped out the current one. All you have to do for Evade is be within 80ft for as you say 28% defense up 100% of the time.
I might understand the position that Evade comes too early in the set so perhaps swap it with a later power, but just because the set has a strong power doesn't make it out of line.
Quote:Mag 4 mez protect that works on the caster? Buzz.
Anyway, not really making a comment on looks or balance of the set now. But you may want to rename the Intuition mechanic to something else. The new Psychic Melee set uses an mechanic called Intuition, I believe. As far as I can tell, no set uses mechanics that are outright called the same thing. Dual Blades has Combos, Street Justice has Combo Levels, Staff Fighting uses Perfection, the new Water Blast uses Tidal something, etc... -
I'm still confused at how you guys got off on this subject. But I wouldn't blame you for parting from the topic. GG tends to drain any fun to be had discussing a subject as blatant disregard happens to do.
