Quote:You are aware I said, and I quote myself:So on the grounds of it having a different name I could do the following and be okay:
I make a short, squat character. He wears a yellow and black outfit and has claws jutting from his hands. He also heals rapidly and has bones laced with titanium. I decide to name this character "Badger" and start publishing comic books about his adventures.
Quote:If it looks different and with a different name, how is Lucas going to sue?
But you can have your argument about the devs covering their butt with regard to an Energy Blade set. If feeling right is what you want, you're welcome to it ^^ -
Quote:The suggestion doesn't say Energy dmg with minor additional fire dmg. It just says energy/fire. I say why shoot bullets when you can shoot energy and fire and you respond "Oh, the fire is minor damage, not the proposed split." I'm just sayingWhich actual suggestion? The OP's suggestion doesn't specify the ratio of energy and fire damage in his laser. Presumably - given the nature of the attack - the fire part of the damage would be on the low side at best, making up a relatively insignificant portion of the combined "high damage" the attack does.
I feel I can express my distaste for putting bullets in an advanced armor blast set (you're blowing stuff up with explodey missiles, no need for tiny non-explodey ones). It spreads the concept of the blasts themselves. If that's not an issue with you all, then why not give the set 1 laser, 1 chain gun, 1 missile, 1 grenade, 1 flamethrower, 1 energy net, etc. etc.? -
Suppose that conveniently nullifies my argument when you disregard the actual suggestion.

Moves away from the direction I'd want it. Meh.
If you've got lasers, why shoot bullets? Unless there are jedi about to deflect your lasers, it doesn't make much sense to me and seems less advanced.
Thinking more of a Boba Fett type feel, a flaming attack would fit better with an Assault armor. -
Lol, I've heard a lot of requests about Fire/Ice Melee having alternate animations so they didn't have to use a sword.
Supplementarily, give those sets all sword animations too so you all the attacks use a sword. Sounds perfect that, if the sword were more a focused streak of pure heat/cold when you swing, you can cover effects like Fire/Ice Breath's cone/DoT. I can just hear the *KRRINK!* of freezing the enemies into blocks of ice with a crescent swing of your cryo weapon
If Combustion's sword animation were awesome (and you have plenty of animation time to work with >_>) I'd finally make a Fire Melee character and make him a tank! -
Umbral actually says something I agree with? Must be fate telling me I'm about to die >_>
But I always wanted a beam saber in place of my Fire and Ice sword attacks. It's the primary weapon of my 2 reploid characters (the FENIX saber and the Cryo-beam saber)
-
And according to C&E, they don't have to. They just have to appear in principle or resemble the subject matter. And what you say (that it doesn't even look like a lightsaber) is exactly my point. If it looks different and with a different name, how is Lucas going to sue?
And how am I 'taking it too far'? I'm simply discussing. What? Did I come off as confrontational? -
Quote:And honestly, that's all you'd need to avoid legal action, is make the sword not look like a lightsaber, not call it a lightsaber and for good measure, make it not work like a lightsaber. Are they called Laser Swords? No, the first image is of a longsword that is on fire. It does not meet the definition of what a laser sword would be, which is a highly advanced device that creates a blade made of pure energy to be used in combat.
And with the Vanguard Sword, it could be said that we already HAVE laser swords. Why would we need another set that is [/i]almost identical[/i] to Broadsword, but brokenly overpowered?
I just find it funny you think Lucas would sue on grounds that we're already standing on. WoW is just as easily considered his competition and no, the 1st link isn't a longsword on fire, it's a sword made of energy. While it does happen to burn the foe, then what is the Blade of Wizardry
A sword in-game that looks similar to the blazing lonsword but more whitish and does not burn the enemy (instead it improves the damage of magic when equipped).
Or the Argent Avenger:
Bottom line, they're swords made of energy (of some kind) and are called something other than lightsabers. If Lucas could sue he would have already.
PS: That isn't saying I *want* the suggested set by the OP. It's retardedly OP. But Energy Blade was a set proposed in the past poll. I voted for it. I'm pretty sure it's not impossible due to legal issues. -
Quote:You can just as easily say those symbols are a special sign language that hones into the creature's extra senses that give them orders. That you can't get past the fact they're flaming or that they're symbols is your own lacking.Robotics:
>Are these robots your creation? Tech
>Are they magical frames created by your family? Magic
>Did you just find a controller on the street, pressed a button and a bunch of mechanized monstrosities appeared? Natural
>Are you an alien from a planet where life originated from iron instead of carbon? Natural, again
>Do you practice ancient summoning rituals? Magic
>Did you genetically engineered these horrid creatur...wait what the F@#$ are these flaming symbols?
Also, like I said. That's just how Mastermind sets are crafted. They are origin specific by their nature (but they don't have to be if you're creative enough). That has no precedence on blast sets. -
Maybe they should sue WoW then. They have more money
Teebu's Blazing Longsword:
And now that I think about it, CoH Vanguard Broadsword:
Have we been sued yet? -
Fine, Ill post >_>
You dont have to care tho.
Firstly, my opinion: I dont like it. Not because of what the set is but how its laid out. Its all over the place, like Assault Rifle but worse. The only thing that would make AR worse (and awesome) is if they shoved LRM Rocket in there. The set has a detachable arm, lasers, rockets nets bleh. Im more a fan of use one or two aspects and use it/them in creative ways. One reason I luv Luffy from One Piece. His only power is hes made of rubber but damn he can do a sh** load of stuff with that power.
Quote:Its nice to say that but I dont think the devs mantra. Sure, they try to make things ambiguous with respect to origin but I think they just add things that look and feel cool and unique while still fitting within the scope of the games engine. Theres nothing inherently wrong with a power that implies an origin so long as you can just as easily make a different origin character with another theme implied power.Originally Posted by Adeon HawkwoodWhy not? Every existing powerset is designed so that the powerset doesn't drive the character's theme. I see absolutely no reason to change that.
Quote:Originally Posted by xhrisDoes Demon Summoning ring a bell?? Do you honestly thing Demons are not origin/theme specific?? Someone might argue that these are not demons but mutants; results of your evil experiments. Sure that makes sense...until you go and try to summon your pets. Flaming magical symbols appear in the air, followed by a magic sigil on the ground. Sure, go on roll a science origin DS MM.
PS: I'm planning to roll a science Demon MM, BTW.
Thats just how MM sets are crafted. That only (if at all) holds precedence for Mastermind summon primary sets which the OPs idea is not.

Besides that, I like it. Its focused. Just missiles and lasers that fire from the arm. Even causing the arm to transform a bit to launch the rockets wouldnt infringe heavily on concept and opens up possibilities for unique animations. However, one draw I believe new sets should have is something to make them unique mechanic-wise. Like DP has ammo switch, Demon summoning is more melee-ranged focused etc.
Quote:Originally Posted by Samuel TowCrub it down to one, at most two laser attacks if you have to have multiple. Crub down the missile attacks too, while you're at it. One or two is enough. Instead, add a machine gun attack or two, possibly machine gun plus single-shot round, and add in a couple of grenades. If you have to, add in an energy blast, a flame attack or some kind of cold shot. In fact, to completely rip powers off from the game just for simplicity, let me explain what I mean: -
Quote:Considering the sheer amount of Laser Blades in media ranging from books to movies to video games, I highly doubt it.Besides....can you say City of Jedi? I'm guessing George Lucas might have a thing or two to say about this idea, since he has the light saber copyrighted, registered, trademarked, and any other thing you can do to protect an intellectual property. Lawsuits have been won with less, and Lucas WOULD sue.

Play a Dominator!
Skip anything with Grav control/ and probably Ice control/, /Electric is a nice choice as is /Fire, /Thorns and /Energy.
Earth Control is pure awesome on a dom. We'll soon get Electric Control with Going Rouge so maybe hold off on /Elec Assault until then? Bottom line, play some doms and get the feel for it so when the new awesome comes out, you'll be ready to rock the power drains to their fullest! -
Might be explained by hyperventilation then. Since it can be 'exhalation from the stomach or other organs that affect the brain', if a man began to arouse a woman and could be taken aback and force her breathing.
[EDIT] Oh yeah, I was going to fit sweating in there cause hyperventilation can cause that too...I just forgot. -
Well, they could always just proliferate the set to Stalkers and make the larger changes to GIS to see how it went. If the datamining shows it performing a lot better, maybe it will leak back over to the Tanker set >_>
-
Well, considering the *only* written definition of 'the vapors' is from medical definitions regarding flatulence, I was taking the slang definition through context of the person posting it.
No corset and I doubt the OP of the term was talking passing gas.
The other definition I found was 'hot or arousal to the point of perspiring' or 'getting creeped out'. I suppose fainting could be involved but with connotation to something before hand >_> -
Well I still think the idea needs a bit more work. Like I mentioned before, it doesn't do much as a plant set using particle effects that convey 'plant'. You could essentially give Stone Armor alternate 'plant' options, rename the set 'Nature Armor' and get ultimately the same type feel.
Also, there is no mention of a possible Stalker iteration and with the two aura powers, this might make it difficult (or at least requiring the creation of a new power). That Stalkers already miss out on Shield Defense is bad enough, it'd be nice that people at least acknowledge the AT when creating sets for a melee AT. -
I'm pretty sure it'll be proliferated eventually.
Seriously, I've been waiting for Ice melee to be proliferated to Stalkers since we got Elec melee. And the worst of it is, they don't even need to make a new power for it, just take out Ice slick and add in an Assassin's Strike that uses BS's Assassin's Slash animation or MA's Fist of Annihilation animation.
If anything, it should come to corruptors and you can side switch. It's just a matter of time. -

Quote:I care about Poison. But I also care about an AT with melee attacks + support sets. We can't always get what we want.Well, yeah, Obviously my alien Bug armada can be all kinds of perfect in their larval, Nymph, and Adult stages in AE.
I was just wondering if there was some major problem that prevented this set from being proliferated, guess nobody cares all that much about Poison, whatreyagonnado?
/e shrug
And the visuals aren't really that smokey, especially if you color it right. And who's to say poisons can't be gas *points to Poison Gas Arrow*
The fear skulls when you give the foes 'the shakes' is almost too perfect though.
-
-
You can always make a Dark Miasma character and color it green. Call the terrorize effect 'the shakes' after poisoning them
Tar patch = corrosive substance
Petrifying Gaze = Paralyzing dart
Twilight Grasp = Vaccine (you poison the enemy and extract a vaccine for you and allies)
etc. etc.
While I feel where you're coming from with the Poison set, I have no sympathy. I have a dragon ninja who has poison for blood. He needs claw attacks and poison effects. I made him as an ally in my AE arc and he works pretty nice.
PS: You going to respond to SH102 tonight? -
Can you not pinch your arm and pull at the skin without bruising yourself?
Quote:C - I thought it meant fainting or feeling light-headed? -
Quote:a. Must be a Christian or Religious College cause college students talk about weird stuff all the time. The majority of those *do* weird stuff for the fun of it"Vapors"? I don't think I've ever fainted in my whole life
And I'm not cut off from differnet types of people - I go to college, I go shopping, I ride my horse, I go to parties, I hang with friends, I've done some fundraisng work, I visit whatever construction site my dad's company is working on, I been overseas when my mom had work there -and until this thread, I'd never heard of anyone squashing their nipples with building tools to make them feel good.
b. You're not 'squashing' the nipples, you're 'stimulating' them. You stop *before* it causes physical harm (mostly) >_>
c. That's not what 'the vapors' mean
