My usual reply when someone calls me a noob because i beat em in PvP is "so.. you just got beaten by a noob... how does that make YOU feel?" normally shuts em up just fine
[/ QUOTE ]
"Who's the more noobish: The noob, or the noob who loses to him?" -
[ QUOTE ]
Well what can I say. It was certainly an ill advised posting. Little did I understand the complete lack of tollerance for the way other people, who pay as much to play this game as everyone else, may like to enjoy the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, I'd say you're the one that's showing limited tolerance here, as you expect other people to adhere to your preferences, even inside zones that are explicitly made for a different set of preferences entirely.
Don't you think it'll be rather annoying for the PvPers to pretty much have to stop and ask permission before they attack someone, in a zone made for player combat?
If you only want to go hiking and enjoy the nature, stay out of the paintball area. Otherwise you'll just annoy yourself and the people who're there to play paintball.
[ QUOTE ]
I will indeed steer clear of RV as you all so eloquently suggest. Thats one less person for you harrass over and over again I guess. Chalk it up as a victory for the 'how dare they play in my zone without my permission' brigade. Looks like there will be many more.
Signing off, with tail between legs
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, several of the people who've answered you here, myself included, are people who don't play much PvP, but prefer PvE, so your argument doesn't really hold. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yes you have the right to kill players ( so save your suggestion that I petition you for some one stupider than me ), but if you choose to exercise that right on players who want to enjoy RV for other reasons you are on morally indefencible ground. You are taking enjoyment at the expense of the enjoyment of other players.
[/ QUOTE ]
Have you considered that by requesting that the people who play PvP don't attack you, you're taking your enjoyment at their expense? They take enjoyment in attacking other players and testing their mettle, and you want them to forego a chance of that enjoyment simple because it doesn't suit you.
Well, the PvP zones are the PvPers sandbox. If you want to play there, you should show them the respect of accepting their rules and way of playing gracefully. -

I refuse to believe this - in the comics, Sister Psyche is by far the coolest of the Freedom Phalanx - I'd read a novel just featuring her
[/ QUOTE ]
Isn't it a little pointless to talk about "the coolest" hero in the comics? I don't recall the CoX comics being strong on cool in the first place. -
I'd probably go for a, but choosing my replies to try and keep them firmly grounded in game reality. ("Say, wanna come over to my place in Kings Row and listen to music? I've got the latest Rikti trance records.")

Bought a couple of other books as well (or at least my gf did - she seems to want to encourage my creative side hehe).. "Anatomy for Fantasy Artists" and "How to Draw Fantasy Figures: From the Imagination to the Page".
[/ QUOTE ]
Now, I'm not an artist, nor do I play one on Usenet, but I do have some friends who know the sharp end of the pencil from the blunt, and I'd like to offer a small piece of advice: Get a good non-genre book on anatomy for artists as well as the genre-specific stuff.
While there are stylistic "tricks of the trade" and techniques to pick up, it can be dangerous to learn anatomy from a style, rather than learning how to apply a style ontop of a fundamental knowledge of anatomy. -

Hi folks, don't mean to usurp Leif's project
[/ QUOTE ]
By all means, do. (Not that it's more "my" project than anyone else's; I just got things started.) I'm currently in a rut between long evenings at work and a general CoH interest, so I don't have much time or energy to invest in it now anyway. (I haven't been at the meet for two weeks now, and won't manage to be there tonight either.) So, usurp away. Please! -
Quick summary of the wiki status: It wasn't just my web-share that got hacked, but the entire server (some kernel vulnerability or something.) The wiki was down for a while as the hosting company fixed things, but is back up and, hopefully, hack proof.
-
Because of the recent hacking of the GG Wiki, I've made a small change in the hope of preventing it from happening again. The new url to the GG Wiki is http://www.dimnakorr.com/galaxygirl/wiki/wiki.php
(Still haven't figured out where they gain entry, so I've tried to batten down the hatches even tighter, but don't know if I've succeeded.
Since the method of attack seems to be to replace any files with the name index.php and index.html, I've made the GG Wiki use the name "wiki.php" rather than index.php. Hopefully that will be enough.) -
[ QUOTE ]
Guess the jerk has the wiki in his script attack cycle now.. I think it's time to lock the Wiki down a bit.. at least the front page. Or relocate it to a wiki that asks people to register to change things.
[/ QUOTE ]
The trouble is that the attack isn't just limited to the Wiki. It basically replaces all index.html and index.php files on my web-share, and I don't know what their point of entry is.
I'll see what I can do. I might migrate the contents to another Wiki codebase and see if that closes things down. -
Stormies? You wan't Stormies? Well, who am I to disagree?
Storm Summoning
Trick Arrow
Blaster
Tanker
Stalker -
Recently came across this page of motivational posters for RPGs, so I decided to throw together a couple for CoH:
Regeneration
Super Reflexes -

just wondering, how do u get ur character on the list?
[/ QUOTE ]
It's a Wiki, which means the readers just add stuff to the web-pages. Check the "HowToUseWiki" link on the front page. -
Hopefully it'll stay unmolested this time.
(And here's the address for those who're new to it: The Galaxygirl Wiki) -

Hey Leif, what is the news regarding the Wiki?
[/ QUOTE ]
The news is that I was going to fix it last weekend, but got distracted by this whole "double XP" thing. Will try to get it done Real Soon Now(tm). -
[ QUOTE ]
Did they even hack it? Or did they just use the edit function?
[/ QUOTE ]
It wasn't a wiki edit; the actual index.php file was replaced. I suspect it was some kind of worm, but don't really know. -
Seems the GG Wiki has been the victim of some cyber tagging. Just discovered this now, so I don't know how bad it is. I'll try to get it restored if at all possible.
ETA: Well, I've had a look at it, and it seems I've been the victim of a worm that's just overwritten any index.html or index.php file it could access. Don't know if it's just on my share or on the entire server yet. The actual contents of the Wiki should be safe, but I don't know how the worm got access to the system, so I'm going to batten down the hull as much as I can before working on restoring the Wiki. Probably won't get a chance until at least this weekend.
Sorry about that. -
You want the guidelines? You can't handle the guidelines! Son, we live in a world of imagination. And that imagination has to be guarded by men with puns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Zodian? We have greater derangements than you can possibly fathom. You weep for reality and you curse the fablers. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what we know: that reality's destruction, while tragic, provides fun. And our existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, provides fun. You don't want guidelines. Because deep down, in places you don't talk about at parties, you want us using that imagination. You need us using that imagination. We use words like character, plot, dialogue... we use these words as the backbone of a life spent imagining things! You use 'em as punchlines. We have neither the time nor the inclination to explain ourselves to a man who logs in and plays under the blanket of the very fiction we provide, then questions the manner in which we provide it! We'd rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, we suggest you pick up a character and start a plot!
*coughs* Sorry. Still working the kinks out of my mind-control cap. Here's the guidelines you wanted.
-- Don't be a jerk.
-- Respect other people's fun as well as your own.
-- Respect the shared reality.
-- Don't hog the limelight.
-- Have fun.
-- Be weird.
-- Enjoy the trip. -
I've got family over for dinner today, so won't have a chance to be online for most of the meet today.

Hi...I just following up on a query I made to one Shadow Whisper on Union the other night...I understand you guys RP regularly? And there is an equivalent on CoH right? I'm just wondering if there's room for another..I'm kind of getting into RPing on CoH/CoV althought I'm still rather new to it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, we try to have regular in-character teams on Mondays and Wednsdays from 7:30 to 9:30 pm BST, but lately RL issues have kept the numbers low (yesterday only three of us showed up.) While we did close for recruitment a while ago, a number of people who claimed slots hasn't really shown up, so we'll do a Great Curling soon and ask new people to step up. So watch this space.
The equivalent CoH thing is the Militia, who meet each Thursday from 8 pm to 10 pm BST. -
I'll be on for a short hour. Got too much stuff that needs doing to stay for longer.
-
We accept her. One of us. Gooble, gobble. Gooble, gobble. We accept her. One of us!
(Oh come on, someone had to quote that.) -

Bridger, is there any easier way we can see which was posted in which month other than by hand?
[/ QUOTE ]
Because my perl-fu is strong, here's a sorted list of all the threads posted to the creative forum. -
And I'm afraid they'll be even lower today. I can't make it either -- gotta work late. ('s what happens when I spend the time at work here rather than in Emacs.)

Just as an added point, and not self-promotion for once, there's been 400 views of this in 4 days and only 3/4 votes in. Is there something stopping people?
[/ QUOTE ]
I think it's just the long time-frame. While it's easy to nominate something you came across last week, it's harder to remember what you read and liked five months ago.
