  1. I first heard of CoH when 1up.com ran it's "Memoirs of an Urban Vigilante" series, back when it was doing regular diaries for a whole bunch of MMOs. Sharkey has long since stopped updating it, but you can still read it here...

    http://www.1up.com/do/feature?cId=3138302

The game looked really fun based on his description. But it would be another year or so before I actually bought it - I was too absorbed by Guild Wars at the time.
  2. The ticket reward you get for completing missions is proportional to the amount of tickets you earned during the mission from what would be drops.

So the larger the mission, the more enemies you defeat during the mission, the more drops you would have got, and the bigger your end of mission ticket bonus.
  3. I'm up for a yellow team on either my MA/SR or BS/WP scrappers.

Or I can be on whatever team PBs are supposed to go on... but I'd prefer a scrapper.
  4. Devs even hate devs. Positron recently blew up Castle's house. True story.
  5. Thanks for the word, Ghostraptor, it really appreciated.

Congratulations Avatea - wish I were in your boots right now.
  6. Better there than here IMO, but I'm sure GR and I are in very different circumstances.

Good luck, hope you land firmly on your feet.
  7. 6 months is nothing. CoH is approaching 5 years of doom now!

    Now What?

a quote that comes to mind...

    [ QUOTE ]
Lisa Simpson: “Look on the bright side, Dad. Did you know that the Chinese use the same word for ‘crisis’ as they do for ‘opportunity?’”

    Homer Simpson: “Yes. ‘Crisitunity!’”

While this seems bleak, and naturally this could go very badly for EU players, it's a real opportunity for NC soft to look at revising the service they give us and improving it. The more I look at it, the more moving our 4 servers to the US side appeals to me - it's the ideal solution from the player's point of view.

It gives us another eleven servers to play on, and the US players get 2-4 depending on how many languages they can speak.
Having the servers all in one location could simplify applying patches and maintenance for the support staff.
EU players would be eligible for closed beta, and able to join in with the US Test PVP.
Everyone gets access to the one set of forums, finally ending the awkward division between the EU and US forums.

Tackled well, it's almost 100% win-win for the player base. Of course it takes time to reconfigure the nerver network, and I won't speak for everyone, but if it took taking down our for servers for a week to switch them over and test I'd accept that to get this done. (provided our accounts were OKd for the US servers during the downtime)

Of course NC Soft will need to balance the cost VS benefits of this approach, but I really hope they're considering this. Hell, it's probably much easier to do this than try to merge Union and Infinity for example, a much more complicated process with name conflicts etc where the player database still needs to be transferred to the USA anyway.

    Now What?

We're yet to get an official response, so this all seems a bit premature to me. For all we know GR might still be here in some capacity or we may be given mods located in the US.

But of the options suggested, "Time to move" in the most appealing, and actually something I've wanted to happen for a while. "Leave us alone" is simply not going to happen, NC WILL NOT allow unmoderated forums to exist on their hardware. The most likely would be probably be "A little help from our friends"

"Fresh start" would be utterly unforgivable.
  10. Man, this isn't looking good. My sympathies to those who have been cut.

To think I was looking to get a job down there too
  11. The Veteran rewards page on the website does seem to have disappeared in the redesign. Or at least, the "show details" links in account details at plaync.com don't link anywhere now.

    Best bet? www.paragonwiki.com of course
  12. "Oh give me a home,
    where the buffalo roam,
where the deer and the antelope play

    Where never is heard,
    a discouraging word,
and the skies are not cloudy all day."

At least that's what I assume.
  13. Hey all. Ages since I posted here. I had a question about the Mission Architect, and was wondering if anyone could remember any redname comments on it.

Will the MA database be cross-server, cross-language and cross-region?
In other words, will characters on Union be able to play arcs created by characters on Defiant? Will German players have access to arcs written in English/French? And will EU players be able to play arcs created on US servers?

I imagine the first two will be yes. The third... well, the markets are cross-region already, so there's some precedent, and I STRONGLY hope this is the case - it would really kill most of my enthusiasm for the MA if I could not play arcs written by those on the US servers, and they could not play my arcs. Can anyone remember any Redname commments on this? (or any Rednames supply some?)

The other question - assuming we get XP for MA arcs, anyone considering trying to level a character to 50 ONLY playing MA arcs? (and not repeating any) Obviously you'd need to wait a while until enough arcs are created to make this possible but I think it could be fun.
  14. Poking my head in the forums to say happy new year!

    HOW COOL

Light Form is awesome, and everying a PB wants... except I dislike the actual effect. I was hoping for a more humanoid model instead of just a few flashing lights.

But its still cool. And at least the model change means ALL your powers become completely unrooted!
  16. I'm in, or at least a reserve.

    Leese, lv50 Scrapper
  17. Dear Mr GhostRaptor, 5 mins to get this rolling again would be pretty neat
  18. Leese

    All Scrapper STF

Thanks for the invite Shannon, but I simply can't make a Saturday or Sunday now.

Please make sure you demorecord the good bits, guys!

    What If!

Yeah, just tried to log in too, no luck.

    What If!

Well, I've tried out stuff with this old laptop. I can get a semi-playable framerate and a 400+ ping (when idle) if I turn everything down to the minimum.

If you want me or need me, I'll be there tomorrow, but I honestly won't blame you if you'd rather bring someone else.
  21. I'll think about it, but 7PM is now 3AM for me...

    Withdraw /Regen

However, it's worth noting that animation times are exactly the same whether your katana is drawn or not. Using powers that put your katana away does not penalise you.

If your katana is not drawn and you use an attack, the animation is draw + attack

If the katana is drawn, the animation is attack and there's a pause. And the length of the pause is the same as the time it takes to draw.

Back Alley Brawler has posted about this recently, here

    What If!

Unfortunately I can't make next weekend. Good luck with the TF.
  24. Leese

    What If!

I should be available for the whole of the next week, not just Saturday, but I don't know about next weekend yet.
