    Read my comment in the original thread -- a few preview screens had problems (bad aspect ratio, missing frames, or no preview at all) so instead of ditching the entries I just re-created the previews on my computer and replaced them. The chars you see are mine.

    As I pointed in other posts, some of the craftable defenses look very good and I've been using them to decorate. If "decoys" of those items are not made available as regular decorations, I have to either lose them, or stay with my Hidden plot.

    What about allowing those items, but making them inactive?
  6. _Ilr_: the only way I see to mitigate the exploit you point (go to base, pop tier 9, zone back in) is by putting the zoning point from base elsewhere (so when exiting the base, you always land, say, in the middle of the ocean away from the fight). The problem is, of course, people camping THAT spot.

    30-sec countdown when zoning from base should apply too if it isn't there already. I thought it was.

    And chill out. You have a bit of an attitude going here and it doesn't help.

    Empowerment base buffs lasts an hour, nothing stops anyone from leaving a PVP zone and going to the base once per hour. Same with inspiration, if you're in RV you can access multiple contacts selling you inspirations without even leaving the city hall / grandville tower. No idea what you mean with tier9 exploit.

    Nothing here is an actual 'exploit'. Unfair advantage, sure, but not exploit. Also even if you disallow 'go to base' in a PvP zone, vets can still use the 24-month reward to teleport to base, which would only end up in cries of "the vets get all the breaks"... again.

    The CoP *is* PvE, you're mixing up things. PvE *raids* are already on the list -- in ADDITION to PvP raids. Add, not take away.

    Those would benefit from being slightly longer and without a Details link (if Ex is going to be taking this list to the devs, I don't think she's going to be able to click a link on a piece of printed paper). What about:

    * Players attempting to enter a supergroup base when they are not members of that supergroup or part of their coalition (by using the "Leader Teammates" permission) are immediately kicked out.
    * The game client randomly shuts down with mesages such as "Map Shutting Down" as players are zoning into any supergroup base.

    Expand this a little too, it's not really clear.

    * While editing, the total prestige available sometimes does not take into account the last few edits, leaving you with less prestige than you really have. It corrects itself after a time but it is annoying (and alarming) to the person editing the base.

    I thought that was the idea; give the most interesting reward (autodoc) first, and the weakest one last, so nobody complains about needing to do a huge lot of work to get something "essential". The way it's set right now, nobody will complain about having to do a lot of work because they really really want the combat logs, it's just an extra.

    Nope, because it's not interactive. It just sits there and you can't do anything with it. It might play music just like the supercomputer plays a supercomputer sound or the arcane energy generator hums. Sound does not equal function.

    Elevator doors without a function: sure if possible. Remember doors spawn as NPCs, not as static objects.

  13. This thread is to post items that already exist in the game, and we want available in the base editor so we can put them into our own base.

    Here's a few to kick it off:

    * Top of the list: fake windows. The Universities have them, and they even let the sunshine through! Police stations have windows with the blinds closed, as well.

    * Fun and games: vending machines, pool table, pinball machines, darts. They can be found all over Pocket D.

    * Water decorations! This one is inside the Vanguard base in Atlas Park. Here's another near Jim Temblor in Faultline.

    * Stools. We have a couple of chairs, but a stool fits a room such as a bar far better. And since I'm talking about bars, booze racks would be very nice too. Both items from Pocket D.

    * Boombox! Everybody has one, but nobody keeps one in their bases? Unconceivable! Bonus points if there's a version that actually plays music. Bonus points and cookies if there's several versions with different tunes.

    * Security cameras (found in hospitals and police stations) and card readers (this one from a Pocket D elevator) to make sure the base is secured.

    * Medical items: a wall-mounted medkit (found in any hospital), or a rack of medkits. Medical table with a round thingy around, and medical table with instruments, the last three items found in the Firebase Zulu hospital.

    * Lockers for our SG members. I found those inside the Faultline dam, next to the door to the hazard zone.

    * This trashcan (ashtray as a separate item). We already have trashcans but they're ALWAYS empty. This style of trashcan is better to pretend it's actually being used.

    * Ceiling fan. We need more stuff to put on the ceiling besides lights. This one found in the Cryptic Lounge in Faultline, they're also found inside any PPD station.

    Post a picture to the item, and the location where you found it (to give the devs an idea where to find the model). Decorative items ONLY! No arena kiosks, icon employees, or anything like that.

    Do not request any stuff that is not currently in game. Neither a modification to an item; those things take time. Premium items (things only found in the tiki lounge for example, or faction-specific things like a Vanguard logo) are off limits.

    You don't need to. I advised uninstalling v0.80 before instaling v0.86 because v0.80 used two files (the black bars) that aren't used in any of the later versions, and I hate leaving unneeded files in the harddisk. If you don't mind losing 480KB of disk space, you don't have to uninstall anything.

    And yes, I know 480KB is nothing nowadays. I still hate wasting hard disk space.

    Uninstalling Splasher doesn't remove any of the screens you added to the randomizer. Those are stored in City of Heroes\Splasher instead.

    Just that session, for two reasons. First, it's likely the game loads the texture when you start it and keeps it in memory forever, so changing the file during gameplay won't do a thing (I haven't tested this though). Second, you wouldn't want a program in the background using memory and accessing the disk while playing; the last thing I need is to be blamed because the two seconds of lag killed someone's character.

    Steps to use the randomizer, using Heroes Login as an example:

    1. Add several screens to it by clicking the "Heroes Login" button several times with different input files.

    2. At this point, you should have several different files in the folder City of Heroes\Splasher\RandomHL. If there are no files in there, something is wrong.

    3. If you have the different files, hit Start, Programs, Splasher, and start "Splash Randomizer". It will randomly select a file in the RandomHL folder and start COH.

    Tell me what part of it doesn't work.
  17. On another note, I should have named the "Character Selection Screen" something else instead: the "Screen Used Almost Everywhere". It never noticed the same background was shared in so many places; but I have to admit, it's pretty cool when you find the background in places you didn't expect.

    If you have a regular (4:3) monitor, crop your art taking that into account. Say, you have a 1440x900 image: it's too wide to fit the 1024x768 frame. Resize it down keeping aspect ratio to 1024x640 (enter '1024' as width and the graphics program will enter the height) and then add black borders for it to reach 1024x768; or, resize it down to 1229x768 (enter '768' as height and the graphics program will enter the width) and then crop a bit to the sides for it to fit in 1024x768. Straight resampling without keeping the aspect ratio will stretch or squash the image.

    If you have a widescreen monitor, it's slightly trickier. You have to crop the image to your screen's aspect ratio, and then intentionally stretch/squash it to 1024x768. As an example: you have a widescreen LCD with 1440x720 resolution. You need to resize your image, while keeping the aspect ratio, to that size (see above). Then, once your image fits in that frame, resize it again without keeping aspect ratio to 1024x768. If you did it right, it'll appear very squashed in your graphics program. But, when you start COH, it'll look just perfect.

    What's New in v0.86!

    * You can now change Character Selection screens!

    * Uses a new system to add frames to the images. Create a 1024x768 bitmap with anything you want to be added on top of your images, using (255,0,255) as the transparent color.

    * Automatically detects your City of Heroes folder. You can still change it if you want, but note the next point.

    * Automatically creates all the required directories to save the textures in. You just point it to the City of Heroes folder, and it creates the entire data structure.

    * Remembers the last directory you loaded images from.

    * Progress bar while you're converting the images.

    Important: Uninstall v0.80 before installing this version!

    I haven't written an updated FAQ yet, just releasing it so you can play with it. Hold your questions!

    A smaller note, please take into account that the image you use for your Character Selection screen is also used for a lot of backgrounds, for example the Enhancements screen.

    I added the logos to the login frames, so they will overlay a little over the image.

    This is how v0.85 outputs your image.

    Yay? Nay? The v0.85 login frames are here and here, with (255,0,255) being the transparent color.
