Didn't you hear? There aren't any more communists. They're all gone.
[/ QUOTE ]
I guess no one told China, Castro, and that guy from North Korea that dresses like Dr Evil.
[/ QUOTE ]
No one had to. They're SO gone, they noticed all on their own. -
[ QUOTE ]
That what the republicans want you to think :P
[/ QUOTE ]
There are no republicans anymore, either. -

What I think is suspicious is that he supposedly froze the clerk and the robber when
1) We know for a *fact* that it is impossible to use superpowers on a civilian, much less stop them from walking down the sidewalk.
2) Frostfire's ability to freeze someone is based entirely on single-target attacks. He could not have frozen the clerk on accident, even if the clerk were targetable.
What clearly happened was that the clerk was an out-of-work ice tank who hibernated to protect himself. Because of this, it is impossible for him to have been killed by the fire. All we need to do is *find* this clerk to verify these facts, but he is no doubt in hiding.

Avoid using game rules when discussing storyline.
The game exists in a static world of set statistics and defined abilities.
The story is a bit more fluid, in a world where statistics are not so dependable or constant. And effects are not well defined.
Characters in stories will always have options and capabilities that game characters will not have. Story-characters will also be vulnerable to mistakes that game characters could never make.

And that would be why Scourge's post was meant as a joke!

I live in Illinois where at least 13 men in as many years were found to have been innocent of crimes for which they were sentenced to death. You read the stories and you see what evidence the prosecuters had and it's just shocking.
[/ QUOTE ]
Up here in Wisconsin there was a very high-profile case recently where a man was released after serving 18 years for a sexual assault he didn't commit. The prosecution's evidence was basically that the victim picked him out of a lineup. The defense had a dozen eyewitnesses that swore he was somewhere else when the crime occurred, many of them not his personal friends. The sheriff's office also had another suspect, and one with a history of committing sexual assault, but for some reason they didn't follow that lead. -
[ QUOTE ]
Perhaps Frostfire was the victim of the Malta, helping to cause the fire, and everything else that went wrong. Not to mention that "our friends" have connections.....
Doesn't seem likely since he wasn't operating as a cosutmed vigilante yet.
[/ QUOTE ]
That doesn't seem to matter with the Malta Group. They're interested in anyone with superpowers, not just costumed vigilantes exclusively. -
[ QUOTE ]
I think that 5 years of jail time for an accident is pretty harsh myself.
[/ QUOTE ]
I bet the shopkeeper's family feels differently.
Five years is not at all an uncommon penalty for an accidental death. People go to jail for far longer in manslaughter cases in the real world. -
[ QUOTE ]
1) Arson requires the specific intent to cause harm. If the prosecutor and judge knew that he had no intent to cause harm he had no business being prosecuted for Arson. Both the prosecutor and judge were in derogation of their oath.
[/ QUOTE ]
Laws like this vary on a state-to-state basis. It may well be true in one state, but not another. In addition, we're talking about a fictional universe here, so it may well be different than what we know.
[ QUOTE ]
3) As a juvenile who should not have been charged with an intentional crime, he should have been charged as a juvenile. Even assuming conviction, he should have been remanded to juvenile custody until 21.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nearly every state allows for the prosecution of a minor as an adult. Usually only the most serious cases are handled this way, and this may well be considered one of them, since several people died as a direct result of his actions, even if not intentionally.
That said, I think he got railroaded, too. -
[ QUOTE ]
An early Runequest article (I assume it was in Different Worlds...if that was Chaosium's house title) gave the rules ("real" and how to game them) for Trollball.
Used a live trollkin for the ball - and the ball was called dead if it died. Memory fails at further details.
[/ QUOTE ]
There's an actual Scottish game (I forget the name) played on a field about the size of a football field that starts with two teams at opposite ends and a dead goat in the middle. Anything goes, and the team to get the largest portion of the goat across it's own starting line wins.
Maybe Troll football could be modelled on that. -
[ QUOTE ]
On the news front again you might even have a scandal about using the same drug used in the Zig which surpresses powers to allow meta-humans to take part in normal sports. Then have claims that some athelete wasn't taking the full dosage and was using their powers to win.
[/ QUOTE ]
Huh. There's a switch. A scandal about a pro athlete NOT taking drugs. -
[ QUOTE ]
In either case, I don't think that total salvage/SG is very relevant to how useful the empowerment stations will be (unless you're going the route of having everyone collect, and only a few take benefit) (though it's clearly not totally without relevance either).
Salvage/Player seems to be much more relevant.
[/ QUOTE ]
Total salvage is relevant because only the larger SG's, with larger amounts of salvage, are going to be able to build the multiple empowerment stations necessary to be able to stack enough of the buffs for there to be a noticeable effect. Smaller SG's, who can't build the higher tiers of empowerment stations, don't get the benefit of being able to stack multiple buffs from the stations. -
[ QUOTE ]
Positron, i think its a question of either:
Is the buff too low for the investment
or
Is the investment too high for the buff?
You clearely state that the buff is working as intended, then the obvious question is, dont you think its a bit too expensive to make such a worthless (unless stacked) buff?
[/ QUOTE ]
But this is the dev team that came up with that base rent system. -

It's not PvP that hinders this.
It's the fact that the entire city would be a smoldering heap of rubble after one day.
[/ QUOTE ]
And you have a problem with this?
[/ QUOTE ]
Geez, Plucky, with a comment like that, one wonders why you don't enjoy playing villains more. -

The answer to 2 can be found with something that is a problem with 1, the Shadow Shard. It was added less than 2 years ago. They added teleporters so you can travel the zones faster. They added stores so you don't have to leave.
[/ QUOTE ]
Still no trainer there, so you DO have to leave. None in Peregrine, either, so you have to go all the way back to Talos to train.
LyteInVirtue:
[ QUOTE ]
The Hollows I can understand not having Stores/Trainers because there isn't one in Perez either. Add it to Perez before you move to the Hollows.
[/ QUOTE ]
Mmmm, no, don't see it. Perez and the Hollows don't have analogous roles in the game. Perez is a place you go to deal with missions. The Hollows is a place you "live" for a time, with its own stories, missions, arcs - things missing from Perez. If you level in Perez, you complete the current mission and leave. If you level in the Hollows, you have to leave to level, but chances are you have to come right back.

PvP has elements that people enjoy. Bounty and the Rockets are fun for some people. BB is usually a ghost town though, as most people get furious if you try to fight them while they are trying to refine ore. RV has a lot of "Capture the Flag" for you in the pill boxes. It has "Protect" stuff in holding the pill boxes. Sure, there isn't a capture, but 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
[/ QUOTE ]
But not everyone enjoys PVP. I think I read somewhere that the majority of the playerbase doesn't engage in PVP regularly. However, on the hero side, the entirety of the development of the game for almost a year now has gone into PVP. There's been some flash and glitz in the form of costume items, but that's about it. Nothing new. -
[ QUOTE ]
works for costume changes
here's a sample line from one of my bind files
6 "powexec_slot 6 $$ costume_change 3 $$ costume_change 1"
[/ QUOTE ]
Huh. Could be the numbers at the end of the costume slot designations are read as number rather than text, so the spaces are ignored. In any case, it doesn't work for any power names, so it's probably a bad habit that's best to avoid, to prevent yourself trouble when not doing costume changes. -
[ QUOTE ]
well i have main bind files for my characters already, that's why i was wondering if each character was limited to just 1 bindfile at a time
and i took the spaces out like the guy above you said, and it works fine now!just 1 extra line in my character's normal bind file
[/ QUOTE ]
You can't ever have those spaces between the "$$" dividers and what goes before them and after them. The game code reads those spaces, and interprets you as trying to activate a power called "hover ", for instance. There is no power called "hover " in the game, just one called "hover". -
[ QUOTE ]
boy this is a long thread, does anyone know if i can just toggle between fly and hover with one button?
this is what i'm trying:
Button4 "powexec_name fly $$ powexec_name hover"
if im already using fly, it switches to hover. if im using hover, it just turns it off and i fall. if im on the ground, it turns hover on
i've used the same thing with costume changes and they alternate just fine, but i guess powers are a little different
[/ QUOTE ]
Your bind will work, but you need to remove the spaces before and after the $$.
Button4 "powexec_name fly$$powexec_name hover"
This will activeate Hover first if neither Hover nor Fly are currently on, but will toggle between them otherwise. Reverse their positions in the bind if you want it to activate Fly first. -

That's the problem, the DEV's don't think it's borked.
I say we march down to their office, and tax them on every penny they've ever earned in their life, unless they fix the game. Wonder how quick the game would get fixed?
[/ QUOTE ]
And then tax them on every penny they've ever earned in their life again in two weeks. -

I would love to hear any suggestions and ideas from you for new badge ideas.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't know why, or in what context, but some mission must involve you 'zapping' some sort of enemy units, to culminate in the 'Moon Unit Zapper' badge.

when I read this I kept thinking SG1 the "Zat" gun.

That's funny, I think of Frank Zappa's daughter when I see that.

Does anyone else find it amusing that one message from EvilRyu sparks these huge pointless debates?
And that he never checks them again until next week's "change this unfair thing or I will quit" post?
(Yes I know the irony of posting in EvilRyu's forum to decry it, so don't bother pointing that out.)
[/ QUOTE ]
Meh. Morons beget morons.
What does that say about you and me? -
[ QUOTE ]
Yeah, but who carefully scans their iconbar after every fight?
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe YOU should be, particularly after a fight with a Night Widow. -
[ QUOTE ]
This is so unfair that this mob does what it does. I dread Arachnos mission even more now, its not fair that she can single handedly cripple, and slaughter a whole team and not be an AV? I guess this is what would happen if they gave stalkers smoke grenade. I also believe the tohit debuff is too extreme most likely she is using that original smoke grenade that was pre-nerfed. If she gets Assasin's Strike I will quit the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
Didn't you say you were going to quit the game if they changed the Sewer Trial Exploit, too? And, for that matter, on about a weekly basis since then? -
[ QUOTE ]
Also, I take my forum name in part form queen Boudicia, a British Isles queen who fended off the Romans and burnt London to the ground. I mention this because I get very irritated when posters just *assume* I am a male person. I am in fact female.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thought it seemed a little familiar. I've just never seen it spelled that way before. I've only seen "Boadica". -
