But it's not really fair to rate something based on what it wasn't intended to do now is it? I.e. if I made an AE arc that was all about story and you give it a low rating based on rewards when that wasn't even my focus in creating the arc, that doesn't really make much sense.

You can't just have one category that fits your only interest and then base everything else on that one category because everything else might not have been created with that category or interest in mind, and it's not fair to the individual to have such a narrow-minded view.

Well I guess you could do that, but it's incredibly selfish to do so IMO, expecting everyone else to adhere to your personal expectations and gaming values.

The only real truth here is that not everyone plays the game for the same reasons. Sure, I agree that a lot of people do play only to see how much they can get, but believe it or not there's also many people who do play for the story or other things of that nature.

Better than an AE that a lot of people exploit. Personally I don't have anything at all to do with AE so if the devs came out and said they were completely removing it from the game I don't think I'd be too disappointed. In fact just the opposite most likely.

If I run a arc full of custom masterminds that 80% of the things I have to kill are worthless, I will rate it low. Not fun. Telling me I am a bad person because I give the rating I feel like and not the rating you think I should is arrogant and stupid. The devs made this system, we have to live with it. Of course I wont be spending much time in AE anymore, so my rating will not affect much. I rate things based on my FUN. Low xp lowers(but does not preclude) fun. You had better have a meter pegging fun mission if you hope to get decent ratings with low xp.
I think the issue at hand was the guy created an AE arc and the guy rated it as if it was suppose to be a farm when it was more about the story. That would be like me going to see a horror flick and giving it a bad rating because it didn't make me laugh enough. If I wanted to laugh I probably picked the wrong movie to go see, don't you think? If the guy wanted a top-notch XP farm he probably picked the wrong mission to play and therefore rated it based on the wrong reasons.

I don't think it's possible for me to play harder since I play as hard as I possibly can no matter what team I'm on.

I don't know I just feel like a younger brother who always wants to tag along with his older brother and his friends but everyone just wants him to go away when I'm Sk'd on a high level team even if that's not the case...lol. It doesn't really matter to me what the "point" of Sk'ing is, because that's just how I feel about it.

Well that wasn't a very nice thing to say

It's more of a personal thing really. I don't like being SK'd too high because I don't really feel like I'm pulling my weight if I'm, say, a lvl 12 on a lvl 35 team because I don't have access to the same powers/enhancements everyone else on the team has.

Yeah, the mobs will con about the same but I still don't feel very useful and therefore don't really have much fun...
  6. Yeah that's a good point, didn't think about that...

I'll have a look at it. Usually if I'm starting a team I'll do a combo of broadcast + search the zone I'm in and individually send tells to people to see if they want to team, but already in your guide I'm getting the impression it's better to look for people in all zones for your level range...

Heh, you pretty much described exactly how many of my teams have gone, except I'd also add in somewhere the teams that insist on taking a 10 minute or more break after every mission.

Chain Lightning is no longer the dog that it used to be.
Grounded allows you to ignore Malta Sappers later on, and provides your KB resistance.
And from there it gets better, Stamina+Powersink=Limitless Endurance. Conserve Power was utterly redundant.
Lightning Field+Powersink= the ability to sap foes to nothing.

While soloing may give less XP/hour than teaming, you should recieve much better wealth/level in the form of drops.

Low-level Brutes are quite dependant on Endurance, since Fury requires momentum. A fair number of Brutes skip damage enhancements early on, focusing on Endurance to build Fury and Fury to generate Damage.
Yeah, I made a thread on the brute forums detailing my utter pain with the last few teams I've been on (i.e. faceplant heaven). I usually forego enhancements until I can get SOs but DOs may in fact take away much of the pain I've had so far xD

And sorry again if I seem to have a crummy attitude. I actually was having fun before my last break just taking it slow and soloing a few arcs. I think the only reason I seem to want to go fast is because now I'm back playing with my friends and they really like to push things...

I tried soloing on my elec/elec brute. I think I'd rather go through a root canal without the use of pain killers. I can barely take an Lt and two minions and I have to rest after every other fight. Plus the XP compared to teams is garbage.

And I tried making my own team last night, but if I'm the only one broadcasting it doesn't matter if I'm looking for a team or trying to put one together if I'm the only one even interested.

But please, continue to talk down to me and be condescending...

  12. One other thing I noticed is unless I'm running Brawl on auto my fury generation is pitiful, usually less than 25% of the full bar, but with brawl all of a sudden I can get 50%+ pretty easily. I don't see how that one attack makes that much of a difference.

The thing is though I don't like running Brawl on auto fire because the end cost does add up especially on top of everything else and it's really bad in the lower levels, plus it's really annoying when I'm trying to line up like a Jacobs Ladder or something, but my guy stops while I'm trying to position myself to use brawl...

Well, maybe not all feel as vehemently about it as you do, but some do.
You can find and join some of the AE Rant threads already in progress, if you like.
    Cheers!
I know, sorry. It's just I usually play only with my brother and some other RL friends but they're all higher level than me so I'm having to play catch up and it's really frustrating.

Before I could get to lvl 20-30 in 2-3 days. Now in the same amount of play time it's more like...

    Day 1: lvl 10
    Day 2: lvl 12
    Day 3: lvl 14
    Day 4: lvl 16

Of course, it may just be like that on villain side which I am unfamiliar with because I've only really ever played heroes. If I was playing on hero side again it'd probably be a lot faster.

I got on for an hour last night and broadcasted in Port Oakes and didn't get anything, and was surprised to find I was really the only person looking for a team at all.
  14. Ok, I'm not some noob who's just started playing the game and doesn't know how to use all the tools. I didn't make this thread to ask how to find teams, I just wanted to vent about my hatred of AE farms and how they impede on my leveling.
  15. Like I said, my issue isn't with the XP required it's with getting teams. I hardly ever solo, especially in the lower levels where it's just a pain in the butt.

How long was your hiatus, OP?
Not sure exactly. Probably at least 6 months.

Ahh, well since I usually play nothing but heroes I didn't find the behavior odd

Anyway, I'm somewhat tempted to remake my brute as a scrapper simply because villains side has been annoying me a little because it's kind of hard to find a team at times and I'll be damned if I'm going to solo at this level >_<

Thanks, and that sounds nice. Of course, my problem isn't really with the amount of XP it takes to level but rather the slowness of finding teams.

Before I last unsubbed there was AE, but there were still a good amount of other teams running around. Now it seems AE has spread throughout like a virus.

I can understand someone with tons of 50s using it as a means to quickly level up, but my friend has told me of new players who have leveled on only AE and have hardly seen anything outside of Atlas Park. That's probably one of the saddest things I've ever heard of in an MMO..being able to reach the level cap while remaining in the starting zone. Makes me want to vomit.

Plus I've never really had a 50 yet in CoH despite having the 6 month vet reward. My attention span is just too low to really stick with a character I guess, so that's probably why I'm adamant about staying away from AEs and farms and powerleveling because I haven't even really experienced the full game yet like someone with 10+ 50s has.
  19. Elec/Elec/Mu
    Leaping
    Fitness
    Fighting

I can make about a million or two a day on the BM. Currently I'm lvl 13 w/ 2.2 mil and this is my only character on villains side.
  20. So I've returned from another hiatus and I don't know about you but it seems to take a heck of a lot longer to level in CoX than it used to. I could get 2-3 levels or more in the teens an hour but now I feel like I'm lucky to even get 1 level an hour, and teams just seem more and more scarce.

I'm sure it's because more and more people are turning to AE farms to level and I'm sorry but I simply refuse to ever touch an AE farm unless under extreme circumstances. For one, I hate farms in general because I just find them mind-numbingly boring. I did one farm on a lvl 50 once and that's all it took for me to realize I hated them with every fiber of my being.

But yeah, it just seems to take twice as long to find a team and three times as long to level, but perhaps I'm just unlucky. Plus I've been trying to play on redside for once but it seems nobody wants to team over there at all unless it's AE.

Anyway, just needed to vent because I think this game is really fun, but it's just been pretty frustrating lately...
  21. But I feel more like a Blaster...

I was on a team earlier and I just kept faceplanting every. single. pull. I feel like I could've gone back over to blueside and made a scrapper that could take more punishment than my brute. And the part that really gets me down is looking ahead in my build once I've got SOs I'm only going to have 50% S/L resistance.

I know I'm not a tanker but all the teams I've been on have treated me as such, looking at me to be the first to run in and take the brunt of the damage (and even then I either die to the alpha or die immediately afterwards). I feel like I'm working off more debt than I am actually gaining XP.

I love my brute's concept/costume and I can't really picture him being anything other than a brute, but actually playing him feels more like torture....

In addition, gloom is a very good attack.

These are the two I would suggest considering.
Is Darkest Night even worth it? The debuff is nice yes but the cast time (3.17s) just really turns me off of it..
  23. Well I have paid a little more attention to Dark Armor but I have a bit of a dilemma with it which is basically a case of I can't have my cake and eat it too it seems.

Basically with my Elec/Dark build I'll have no immob protection because I don't really want to take Cloak of Darkness due to me not wanting my costume obscured. I tried to look up a picture or a short video that might show what Cloak of Darkness actually looks like so I could see for myself how bad it is but I couldn't find anything. I'm assuming it's similar to Steamy Mist?

Anyway, no problem because I can get my immob protection from CJ right? Well, yeah, if I wasn't dead set on taking flight for conceptual reasons.

So I'm sure you can see why this is a bit of a dilemma. I'll probably just take CoD and use it "sparingly" so I only hide my precious costume when necessary :P

I dunno. I still don't know whether I wanna go with ELA or DA. The main reason I'd like DA is for concept and because I find thematical sets (i.e. Elec/Elec, Dark/Dark, NRG/NRG, etc.) a bit boring because it's basically the same thing twice.

But on the other hand ELA is less end intensive, is getting a good boost from Energize in I16, and comes with KB protection which saves me a few mil of inf.

Actually, they tend to be that much more difficult to use if your enemies are stunned, the way they are likely to be with a higher level /dark brute.
My experience goes about as far as my brute. I have played a couple tankers but the melee sets I used (SS and EM) didn't have cones IIRC.

I've never played dark armor on a brute, but I've brought it to 50 on both a scrapper and a tank, and I'll say that it's a tricky set to play and build but can be very effective. It does tend to favor sweeping large groups of relatively weak enemies, which is also a strength of elec, so it should go quite well from that perspective. I think the combination would feel a lot more fluid if you're willing to invest in IOs for endurance recovery as that may be an issue.
My only big beef with DA (and FA as well for that matter) is the lack of KB protection, but that can be offset a bit with the use of IOs (though said IOs can be a tad expensive).

    Quote:
As for fury generation, I think it's probably overstated. Many sets, both primary and secondary, use controls that will lessen incoming attacks and still do just fine. Developing your attacks should allow to generate and maintain fury without too much difficulty. I've always found that a fast-moving team (or soloer of course) is far more important to fury than any particular power choices.
I've already found that setting Brawl to auto in the lower levels really helps with fury generation, even solo, but I'm sure speed is also a big (probably bigger) factor.

    Quote:
Edit: meant to also say that taking stamina on elec/elec and then respeccing it out later is the way I would go. I also would not personally skip fitness with the I16 changes, but even a modest amount of recharge will keep Energize up the majority of the time, so I'm expecting that it will be more than sufficient with Power Sink if the current version goes live.
By not skip the fitness pool do you mean you would drop Stamina but keep the other powers from the pool, or you would just not personally run w/o stamina?
  25. Huh..I didn't notice that about Jacobs Ladder...so about the only thing HP has up on it is lower end cost and faster recharge, but even that isn't much different, and when you factor JL's potential for AoE damage I'd say it far outshines HP, but that's just going by logic, not experience.

Anyone have any comments on how effective Elec/Dark would be?
