Damn those spammers!
That's many months after I first registered on these boards, so I doubt that's anywhere near my first post. Likely the ones before were among the ones deleted by the old boards (remember how the old threads would end up getting deleted to try to keep them working?). -

There's a huge list of bug's in TheNet's thread Not Goodbye, where he pretty much asks people to share their favorite ones.

Quote:And it's also not like we can't try to work towards both happening. Hedge our bets, so to speak.I fhte chocie is between anothe rpublisher and a player effort, then of course we'll support the publisher option - but we can't rely on there being one, so we've got to organize now for the possibility that we're the only ones who can try and save something from the game.

Quote:And in case someone wants to bring up the Cryptic engine situation: We've had Zwill say it's merely a rumor multiple times, Ghost Widow (she's still around???) speak out against it, BaB (now with Cryptic) speak strongly against the idea, and a STO Community Manage say the entire idea is 'insane'... so it's extremely unlikely that's the cause.Ok maybe. But, it seems to be a logical assumption considering the immediacy of it.

The financials do seem reasonable, as NCSoft was in the red last quarter (for the first time ever, apparently), by $6 million. They're likely to make a huge amount of money from Guild Wars 2 very soon, so long term they don't need to worry about, but it's the short term... by killing Paragon Studios and CoH right now, they'd be able to do a short term fix of their financials to appease the shareholders (CoH and GW are the two smallest revenue sources... killing GW would be suicide at this point, as it'd cause a massive firestorm around GW2). It hurts them a bit long term, but GW2 will make that unnoticeable.
The most likely situation is that CoH/Paragon happened to, unfortunately, be in the wrong place at the wrong time when NCSoft went into the red. With any luck, the Devs will be able to find new home(s) deserving of their talents, and our CoH will be able to be reborn with a new publisher that can be to NCSoft what NCSoft was to Cryptic (i.e. "buy the game, then back a dump truck up to the Devs and tell them to go wild"). If we're double lucky, the publisher will try to hire our former Dev team.
(when I say our 'Devs', I'm also including people like Zwill that technically aren't developers... it's just easier to say that)

I bet they could do a good episode about it... but considering the turn around? It'd probably be closer to a year before anyone saw it. Plus, I would wonder if people just assumed it was a game the creators made up... Although, if things are still in the air by then, it'd probably be very effective.

Quote:Generally, it actually works out that longer sub periods are better for the companies, that's why they offer a discount on them (because even with the discount they're better). They get all the money up front (so there's no questions about it), which means they can invest it sooner, and there's a longer period before they know you might stop giving them money.I'd even switch back to the once a month sub to give them a few extra dollars if needed. I only switched to the 3 month deal and never switched back because I had a moment of "Hmmm...if I don't pay this much now, I may not be able to log in next month" moments.
Plus, it's good for charts to say X% is really dedicated!Win-win for everyone involved (except the credit card companies, since they usually make money for every transaction).

Quote:Dual Pistol Man is the character Dr. Aeon was playing with. It took me a moment before I realized when watching the clipAnd who's "Dual Pistol Man" (:45)? Is that Wu's nickname for Maelstrom, or were there going to be AWESOME new characters named Fire Manipulation Man, Nature Affinity Woman, Illusion Control Boy, etc.? Was Penny finally going to get her own superhero handle -- "Psi Melee Girl"?

Hopefully, come Tuesday, making everyone VIP in-game (but not on the forums- see Zwill's comment about that in some other thread) will be relatively easy for anyone still around to do.

Quote:I'm saying such a backstory will make people take you less seriously than when they see a picture of this guy:And....have my words hurt you so much that you wish to tear down this good thing I'm trying to do? Or are you truly offering advice in the best interest of this cause?
Interpret my intent however makes you feel best. -
I'd suggest coming up with a better backstory than 'a game I played was shut down' if you want to be taken seriously in your war on corporate greed.

What server + faction are you on? I could just hop on to that server (and make an alt there, if necessary), have you invite me to the SG and pay the upkeep.

Quote:There is zero evidence that this was the actual reason- this coming from one of the first people to bring up the licensing angle. A community manager for STO has explicitly shot it down on their boards (but, personally, I wouldn't put a huge amount of stock in that), BaBs (who currently works for Cryptic) has said that to the best of his knowledge the license wasn't up for renewal or anything (in multiple posts now), and Zwill has bothered to go out of his way at least twice now to say it's only a rumor and nothing more. At this point we can only make guesses- poor ones at that.To my understanding it was a Cryptic/Re-licensing the Engine problem.
Cryptic wanted to get rid of the competition, so they raised the price of the license, NCSoft didn't think it would make back the investment.
I think with i24, it totally would have.
I don't see how looking who to burn, when we still have a chance to save the game is at all productive. If you want to burn someone, wait until CoH's fate is already set in stone. As long as we have a chance to save it, however slim, put the pitchforks down, and focus on saving it, not counterproductive personal vengeance that can only serve to make yourself feel a tiny bit better, while accomplishing nothing in practice. But I'm sure I'll have someone reply to this saying I don't care for CoH because I'm not squandering the little time we have to make a difference with revenge.
Edit: Oo, another BaBs quote I'd not seen... so at least three -
Quote:You should have seen him in the anime thread right before the announcement. He has serious issues.Wow, you're quite a character. If Carlin was alive he would call you a ******* moron for getting worked up over a video game.
It's not shocking at all that he's trying to exploit this event to further his hatred. -
Over 10,000! Huzzah!

9,995! Five more people! 6 to be able to say 'more than ten thousand'. Dooooooooo eeeeeetttttt!

Wait, MIDS has anything to do with CoH?
And to think, all these years I've, spent hours designing countless characters, and never once actually used one of those builds in the game (I have bad altitus :-/).
Thank you to everyone that has worked on Mids, as well as all the prior planners! -
Sorry, Gangrel, but revenge trumps reason. Even if the revenge will actively hurt yourself and ensure the things you don't want to happen will happen, while being completely and totally ineffective (hahaha... boycotting, yeah, like those have worked for gaming in the past).
The cries for boycotting are purely based on emotions... unfortunately, such untempered emotions are doing absolutely nothing in helping us liberate CoH from the clutches of NCSoft, if not actually harming the efforts. But people refuse to see that, because they're only trying to make themselves feel better, to hell with the game! -
I'd rank SOE quite far above EA, but still not exactly in my 'oh yay!' territory. Especially with the price they charge for server transfers and that sort of stuff.
Valve would still be my preferred purchaser (even if even less likely than the others). They're fairly well liked (the only thing people ever hate them for is not releasing HL3 already, pretty much), they've got a huge platform & storefront (so they could easily advertise CoH to a massive number of people with little to no effort), they're not new to f2p games (TF2 went free to play... HATS!!!!), plus they're also big on cross platform, so would likely invest resources in creating native Mac and Linux versions of the client... they'd likely also be willing to invest in engine overhauls & upgrades (they still push out fairly large upgrades to their older games occasionally). Although, I'm not sure if Valve has ever bought a game before... not counting ones like CS which were mods of their games. Unlikely, but I would like it to happen (and, of course, picking up as much of Paragon as possible).

Yeah, I won't miss them. Doubly so the cake room. It's practically as bad as the maps in other MMOs!
-
Were these boards created in association with the Titan Network? What about their forums?
-

Of the total MMOs they've killed, this is their 5th... although the first that wasn't completely bombing. But, when you're in the red, your priorities change a bit.
