The people getting rich off the market aren't spending inordinate amounts of time on the market (many have talked quite extensively of how they operate).
  4. A lot of the people with huge amounts of money haven't earned it via the inf that drops by mowing down mobs.

They've earned it via the IOs they've received, by using/playing the AH. A lot of the ones that know how to use the AH probably wouldn't think twice about dropping the kind of inf the OP mentioned, as they earn far more than that without doing anything (or to put it more accurately, spending a few minutes of time a week).
  5. Items of this sort being for sale with inf for quite a large amount might help a bit to slow down the wild growth of inf in the game. There's so much inf floating around in the market that the amount gained from defeats/missions is nearly meaningless by comparison.

Power set + Double XP seems to be a good way to get people to burn out. It's not about getting the "maximum money possible", but ensuring a continued revenue stream firstly, and then trying to maximize that revenue stream.

The Android version, yes. And why not just do what you said? Because you don't have to load three large web pages first on your mobile device (so it's far faster), it's a more streamlined interface, and, especially important for anyone not on an unlimited plan, it'll use a microscopic fraction of the bandwidth that loading even one of those pages would use. Mind you, I wrote the Android version in just a couple hours in response to the demands of those in the thread (obviously there's a desire for such an app).

The iOS version includes push notifications. Push notifications are ideal for when, say, you come home only to find out the weekly server maintenance just started, and now you have two to a billion hours before the servers are back up, and don't wanna sit at the login screen / continually refresh the status page. The app will notify you when they come up (which ever server(s) you specify). No, it's not a revolution app that'll change your app... but it's also completely free

The Android version may gain additional features already found in the iOS app if there's enough interest, although I make no promises about that, as I don't use Androids (I didn't even dig my old one out until I already put it on Play... and then found out it didn't render correctly on it!).

Good news! Every mobile device already includes that functionality out of the box, usually provided by a combination of a little doohickey called a 'camera' combined with a wonderful 'liquid crystal display' (or, if you want to get fancy, an active-matrix organic light-emitting diode!).
  8. Was 8baller the only other person that had worked on a similar Android app? Surely not.

Well, the good news is I'm sure the carriers and manufacturers are more than happy to oblige in not letting you use Android 4.0 anytime soon

    /random Android 4 derail:
So wait, now there may or may not be a menu button? Now that's no fun... I was going to move the buttons into the menu instead of being on the bar along the top, but if they're trying to deprecate the menu button, there's not much of a point in bothering with it.

That's not true in the slightest. Except maybe for AMD's drivers...
(even then, not really... they just have bad drivers in general)

The official OGL spec hasn't been updated as frequently (although things have greatly improved), but new features can be added via vendor extensions until the functionality can be standardized (similar to how modern advances in the web are occurring). OpenGL is also the only option if you want to do development for OS X, Linux, PS3, PSP, Wii, 3DS, Android, iOS, and basically any other platform that isn't named 'Windows', 'Xbox', or 'Windows Phone' (with the latter two being the only platforms that are DirectX-exclusive).

It quite likely is- but that's probably not so much the fault of the engine or OpenGL, but of their in-house development tools. TES isn't really a fair comparison as those development tools are huge selling points for the games, which means there's more motivation to sink money into improving them.

I wouldn't be shocked if lots of their development tools are largely undocumented, with no one around that originally developed them (thanks at least in part to when Cryptic moved most of the development team off CoH). We know NCSoft/Paragon has put at least some money into improving them, as, IIRC, Mission Architect was actually a byproduct of a new tool to develop missions without going through as much effort as their older tools took.

Considering how fast recent development has been, I'd actually be a bit surprised if it was purely due to expansion of the development team. Major revamps have happened to the game's engine, so likely the tools used have seen some lov'n as well.

  13. Has anyone with the iOS client that set some servers to watch for received any notifications? I think I might have found a bug that would cause the pushes to not go through (because the app seems to be registering with the wrong APN server!). Either way, a fix for the issue should be finding its way down in the next few days!

    Shh! Fix't

I think I'm going to have to rework part of the Android app as well... it seems that, at the very least, Android 2.3 doesn't support the necessary extensions to render the gradient in the background (although 4.0 renders it like total crap with horrible banding, as you can see in the screenshots!).
  14. Due to popular/murderous demand, I have written a quick port of City Status for Android (missing pretty much all the features, beyond seeing the server status, and being able to refresh the status... see the bottom of the initial post for a SS and .apk download link! Edit: now also a Google Play link). It's actually the second time I've written this for Android (the first one was over a year ago, and had basically the same set of features, although didn't look close to as nice... yes, it actually looked worse! ), although the first one was 100% Davlik app.

Also, for just for completeness sake, there's also some Windows Gadget over here (I don't think any of those support the merged server lists, though). Yeah, that I'm not gonna redo

    ---

I'm glad people like it... even people at Paragon! That's quite nifty!
  15. See bottom of post for Android

    iOS
For those of you that never saw the original announcement, City Status is an app for iOS that allows you to instantly view the status of the City of Heroes servers. It's a native app that queries to see whether the servers are up/down, and shows it in a quick and easy to see format. You can reorder the servers in the list, or even hide ones you're not interested in seeing.

New in version 2 is the ability to mark one or more servers to be monitored. The next time one of these servers comes back online, you'll be sent a push notification, instantly notifying you such! The subscription isn't continual, so you won't have to go back in and disable it each time to stop being notified (you also won't receive 5 notifications if five servers you're watching come back up at once/in close succession!).

The ON/OFF toggle switches let you subscribe! You can even subscribe to servers you don't want to see (weirdo! ).

Download City Status now for free from the App Store!

    Android
Since there's several people trying to murder me because they want an Android version, I spent the last few hours developing a quick and dirty Android client. There is no push support, you can't hide servers, nor even reorder them. Don't expect it to work wonderfully, especially if you have a different resolution screen

Download for the Android .apk, or, also, you can get it off Google Play now!

  18. Having you tried repairing your CoH installation using the NCSoft Launcher (right click 'CITY OF HEROES' in the launcher -> 'Repair (Consistency Check)')?

The first part is a stack trace from CoH Helper (not CoH). It apparently crashed (uncaught NullReference exception, technically) part way through gathered the data (guessing by the method names, getting some data having to do with the memory).
  19. Just a note: T_Immortalus uses a cellular connection that has similar (real world, not theoretical) bandwidth to a 56k dial up modem.

For stress testing to detect something like this, the clients' connections would have to be specially throttled down massively (along with a sizable hit in latency as compared to fiber networks generally). I've not heard any similar stories from anyone using dial up, so it might be more related to the properties of his cellular link.
  20. Would that be instead of, or in addition to, being able to slot the individual powers?

If instead of, then what about powers like the self heals that Dwarf gets? The taunt/teleport? It'd also make it much harder to reasonably slot the Dwarf attacks, as well as slot Dwarf Form for resistance (admittedly not as much a problem with perma-Eclipse/perma-LightForm... but that shouldn't be the baseline).

If in addition to... seems like that'd allow slotting a massive amount of damage for Nova Form (attacks + form itself). Probably otherways it could be abused to do weird things as well.

True... they also, apparently, don't support accessing the store via an external browser... note: You access the store in-game via an embedded web browser (specifically the QtWebKit wrapper around the WebKit engine).

However, before anyone complains too much, let's all remember that Freebie Friday requires someone at Paragon to log in and manually enable/disable it
Seriously? You'd think the big fancy thirdparty microtransaction platform they're using would be able to handle something like that.
  23. "Freebie Friday" runs for only 24 hours, and in the US a good chunk of the time is on Thursday evening (so Friday evening the item will already be down).

IMO, might be a good idea to extend it a few more hours, even if that means it's more than just 24 hours long.

Oddly enough, apparently SciFi was a bunch of idiots and ran it against a huge football game, which slaughtered its ratings on the east coast (and on the west coast, it did extremely well...).

As for Doctor Who... any show that could promote a mild character like Rory Williams into this... well, it just has to be pretty damn awesome.
