Quote:It's "only" because that's the number BioWare has said is necessary for TOR to actually turn a profit. I would imagine that's from a combination of spending a massive amount of money during development, having to pay both EA and Lucas Arts, as well as rather expensive servers... plus, wanting to make up the cost of the game within X time (i.e. they wouldn't be happy with making $1 more/year than what it takes to keep the game running... they wanna make their money back within X time).Considering that the average MMO never even reaches 500k, much less gets above it, I find that "only" to be laughable...
They were aiming to be able to be a top-tier MMO that has a population in the millions, so they were budgeting much higher than your 'average' MMO (if an MMO with a massive IP behind it can't beat out an MMO by a no-name company thats creating their own IP from scratch, then it's probably a failure). -
Quote:I'm T9, and DEFINITELY don't. And I've bought several slots already. It would cost me a crap ton to replace all the slots that I wouldn't have as a Premium... and that's ignoring that VIPs have a much higher cap-per-server than Preems. If you are a tier 9 vet you have all the server slots you will ever need, and you can always purchase more slots.
VIP system loses its appeal as more time progresses as I pointed out above.
Why do people keep making such statements, claiming that 'everybody only wants X!!!!!' when their evidence really amounts to 'I only want X!!!!'? Some people will be happy with just 2 character slots. Some people with the number they'd have as T9. Some people would be happy with the amount they get as a VIP. Some people aren't happy with the amount they get as a VIP that has paid for every single unlock on all the servers. People are all different, with different wants, needs, and desires. -

Quote:Mirror Spirit, Spark Blade, and Foreshadow would like a word with you[...] and let's not forget there is no lore for outside of the US(might be Europe too) So of course Heroes from other counties will have a different look and costume design,at least that's how i see it.
(ahhh... the long forgotten City of Hero!) -
It depends on exactly how it's integrated into the work. Obviously the art style would have to be adapted for a 3D computer game (just as comics had to be), but there's no reason the general ideas and such couldn't be brought over.
Quote:There's a massive variety of anime out there. Some are extremely over the top, while others are much more understated and go much more so towards realism. And again (I wrote these two parts in reverse <,<) this game is already comic book themed... which aren't exactly known for not going over the top.Everything anime is super over-the-top and outside of the game, anime is already very in-your-face and to me, that can get overwhelming.
Quote:Second, there's a bit of a stigma that comes with anime; a lot of it stems from the folks who go absolutely overboard with their fandom and end up defending their most favored series like rabid cats. -
Quote:You also missed the 60,000 points that it would take to buy the slots VIPs get. Sorry, but VIPs are only getting 'screwed' if they're not interested in any of the huge number of perks they get. You're basically arguing that a person that wins the lottery gets screwed because 'they have to pay all those extra taxes', as compared to the person that bought the ticket and lost. Well, yeah, if you don't give a damn about the prize money, and your only concern is paying taxes... but it's pretty asinine to make such a claim with a straight face, and yet you continue to make that argument.Try to keep up, Nethergoat. For the same amount of money, Premium players get 13560 points compared to VIPs 6600 points per year. Premium effectively pays 50% of what VIPs do for things available on the store.
What balances VIP is the stuff that isn't available on the store -- incarnates, bases, some other things I don't use and have forgotten. But if the VIP is not interested in that free stuff, they are getting screwed compared to Premium players. We've already established that earlier in the thread.
'VIP sucks if you're not interested in any of the things VIPs get for free'

Quote:Stop shoving your views into the mouths of everyone else. The fact that VIPs are force-fed content we do not like, while Premium players are able to pick and choose, is *another* way that VIPs get the raw end of the deal.
You may not like the SSAs, but I loved playing through them on my Villains (not gotten around to doing them on my new heroes yet). I've enjoyed the iTrials I've done (I had done LAM and BAF before, last night I did TPN and failed a DD for the first times, both of which were extremely fun). I've enjoyed the little of DA I've gotten through (from the bits and pieces I've read on the forums, I'm sure I'll like the rest). I enjoyed going through First Ward. I enjoyed going through Night Ward (even when I was being mauled repeatedly by Animus Arcana).
There's still quite a lot of post-Freedom content I've yet to do, which I'm still looking forward to. Just because you don't enjoy anything done post-Freedom, doesn't mean everyone doesn't enjoy it.
But, you're not going to listen. You've already repeatedly demonstrated such. You've concocted a world where Paragon Studios is torturing the VIP players, tricking them into paying the monthly fee, while only giving them junk, and you're the only one who's realized their evil schemes. That world is much preferably to you, it would appear, than simply saying to yourself that you made a bad decision for yourself.
Being VIP is a far, far, far better deal for myself than trying to be Premium and buying all the stuff I'd want (and simply ignoring the stuff I can't buy, such as Night Ward and the Incarnate System)... and I'm a Tier 9 VIP, so I'm in the best position to go Premium. -
Quote:How about the name it had for years: "subscriber"I'm beginning to think this problem is mostly being caused by the name (which I find a little dumb). Would there be all this kerfuffle if it were just called "Full"?
The 'VIP' name is a touch silly, because there will be people like Sam that insist such a name should entitle you to back rubs by Positron (although, to Sam's credit, he's not saying that we should get that for what we currently pay).
As this thread has shown many times, people do not realize simply how LITTLE they got in the first MANY years of this game. I was absolutely shocked at how few powersets were added over all the time I'd played (if I had guessed before I saw the list the first time, I would have guessed somewhere on the order of 20-30! Actual new powersets, not proliferated!). It's quite interesting how perception can mess with us like that.
The entire reason we're getting the free-for-VIP powersets so often is because of the pay-for sets. Paragon is subsidizing their development from the massive increase in revenue they're getting from selling the other sets.
The simple facts are that you get far more for being subscribed to the game now than you ever did in the entire previous history of the game. And with the addition of premium, if you're not interested in the VIP bonuses, you have another option, which may be a better value to you! It's also much easier to get friends to try the game with the free accounts not having close to the same level of restrictions as being a trial (the 'time' restriction was the worst part of the old one... I got friends to make an account, and they'd spend 5 hours making a character, not have anymore time to be able to play then, and then we don't get another opportunity until the time had run out!). -
Quote:No it's not. People have pointed out the huge number of things you're completely ignoring. It's only stacked against VIPs if you're not interested in any of those VIP perks. Then VIPs will be able to afford all the powersets they want, yet VIP status will be more appealing. Right now the situation is very stacked *against* VIPs. Premium players have it much, much better and that's not the way it should be.
Have you actually played as Premium? Have you actually played as premium on a non-t9 account? -
Quote:You missed the part where it'd take around 60,000 points to buy an equivalent number of server slots. It would take many years for it to become "better" if you factor just that one extra piece in (and even then, VIP will continue to retain perks that Preems can't get).+1.
Not only that, but as time progresses it becomes a worse deal for VIP's.
Oh hey, I just got an email saying my sub lapsed (while doing an iTrial with my freshly 50+1 Peacebringer!)! If I wasn't enjoying working through the Incarnate content so much, I'd probably let my VIP status lapse for a week or so (I'm about to become very busy). With how things are going, I'll probably re-sub sometime tomorrow, and then just not have much time to play for a while.
Edit: No pic and no signature! I'm not sure if I'll be able to manage to wait until tomorrow! -
You've also forgotten to account for: 12 free slots per server. If you ignore Exalted, that would cost you 57,600 points (at the best rate). Exalted would raise that up a bit more.
I don't have anywhere near all servers filled, but I've got a lot of characters. Far more than I could unlock if I dropped down to premium. -
Quote:If you don't like it, then why are you buying it? If you're unsure of a set, you can always go to test/beta server and try it out without actually paying. If you do that during an actual testing phase, there's a good chance you could even get a level bump as well to test it in the later game.I see what is there and it's system somewhat stinks. Not all powers release are top notch so if I am going pay for points and dish out the green it better be damn good.
I've skipped several of the new powersets (Beast Mastery, Waterblast, and Nature Affinity) because I didn't really have a plan for them (I may by them down the line). I'd suggest you do the same if you're not actually interested in a set. -
Quote:Then pretend the pay-for sets didn't exist, and most of the free-for-VIP sets didn't either, and you can live in that world. The pay-for sets are helping to fund an increased rate of free-for-VIP sets. It's really a win-win situation for everyone, even if you completely ignore the market. However, you shouldn't have to pay for powers as V.I.P period their apart of the game. Everything else doesn't matter me that's my only "gripe".
RemusShepherd is obviously off his meds if he really thinks that the Devs are more interested in the Premiums than the VIPs (they've even explicitly said that the VIPs are and will always be the heart of the game... which their actions 100% back up).
I've not been regularly subscribed post-Freedom (I had simply gotten burned out from years of playing), but if I had, I'd have easily been able to cover the cost of every power set that was being sold on the market that I was even slightly interested in. I've had to buy a few points (I think a grand total of $15 worth) to cover several different pay-for sets, along with a LOT of extremely high quality costumes (I've gotten several full sets, and a number of individual items from different sets).
Personally, I think I got an extremely good deal. I've gotten more costumes, more powersets, more content, and more miscellaneous goodies in the little time I've been subbed post-Freedom, than entire years pre-Freedom. The Devs have always been very responsive to the playerbase, but they've done more post-Freedom for us than any other time pre-Freedom. I've certainly had my complaints (such as the LFG system being an utter failure for the whole 'finding group' thing), but they've done a surprisingly good job addressing such issues (I don't know how or why, but the /lfg alleviated all my issues with finding groups... I have an easier time joining teams and doing TFs now than even back when I was part of an active SG, well known on the most active global server for my server, and on the most heavily populated server). -
If it was your IT department, they'd likely to tell you to just reboot it, and then hang up on you. When you call back to say 'no, that did not fix the giant hole in the monitor', they'd tell you to reboot it, and promptly hang up again.
IT departments are a Nemesis plot -

You can also change the level it's showing you by moving the slider

Basically, what the title says.
What buffs (in the broadest sense, from powers being cast on you, to your own personal powers, to set bonuses, to incarnate abilities, to regular enhancement %s and anything else I might have missed) remain active while defeated, primarily looking at it through recharge (a lot of the other modifiers wouldn't particularly make much sense... such as +regeneration
).
I got to thinking about this a bit ago when thinking about my freshly-50'edPeacebringer's self rez ability, which comes out of the box with a 5 minute recharge (honestly, any situation where I need it recharging much faster than that, it recharging faster than that is unlikely to actually help
). I would assume the regular enhancement percentages, set bonuses, and LotG +Recharge would continue to operate, but I've never tested any of them, nor actually seen anyone document which continues functioning.
Anyone have any ideas? -
Wow, it's been three years?
As already mentioned, Stalkers got a massive buff (insta-cast AS when not hidden! Also, normal attacks build up your chance to land an quasi-crit with AS when unhidden... and the Stalker ATO 'proc').
-
It's the same formula as used for recharge, where every additional 100% cuts it in half (X% takes Y seconds, and X%+100% takes Y/2 seconds). As for the impact on different duration... it'd hit each relatively the same amount, so not sure what you mean by that last part.
-
Forgot about the specials. But even taking them into account, you'd still need a massive amount more to reach the given 200% figure. And that's quite a number of slots being dedicated explicitly to that.
-
Quote:That's not how mez resistance works. This is the formula:
and 30% mez duration (cuts duration down to 1/3d)
Code:SufferedDuration = AppliedDuration / (100% + TotalResistance)
To get a 1/3rd duration, you'd need 200% mez resistance... I rather doubt you could achieve even 100% if you dedicated your entire build to it. -
Quote:The Devs should throw in some random chatter you occasionally see where it reveals that the lower level skulls are just doing fake (thus explaining the hollywood-style) accents, because they think it's cool and their leaders actually have real ones. They've always been run by the Petrovic family, who had a Slavic background - but the minions haven't been shown to be Eastern Europeans until now.
The devs are aiming to give them an ethic background similar to the Italian one for the family, and the Asian one for the Tsoo.
That'd allow them to play both sides, where they recruit anyone, but still an ethnic gang.
