I'm a sucker for usless information. I love easter egg drops in movies and videogames, and in general, am always up for a "complete" expearince. BUT, and this is a big BUT, i don't want all that stuff to clutter up a game needlessly.
Take games like Mass Effect. (I'm currently playing it. I was late to the party...) LOTS of needless information in the Codex, lots of stuff to read outside of the game, comics, and 2 novels i think. NONE of it nessessiry to enjoy the game. You can play either game, from start to finish, without ever cracking open the codex, and you'll do just fine, understand what's happening just fine. The extra stuff is just extra, and adds to *my* enjoyment, but YMMV.
And thats who IMO is should be. On the side so to speak. There if you want to endulge, but not a requirment to get enjoyment out of a game. -
Hehe. I take all 4 fitness powers on nearly every hero/villian i make, for 2 reasons.
1. Stam. It's just too nice to pass up.
2. I don't have to slot swift/hurdle/health (well, sometimes i will, in the case of tanks and scrappers for better staying power.)
I've never yet, in 40 alts, been in a situation where I wanted a power but couldn't train it, well, maybe with my peacebringer, ok, once. But i'm ALWAYS scrounging for slots. Fitness was a god send for me. 3 decent out of the box powers that pertty much never needed slots and fit pretty much all my concepts.
Now it's gone... or it will be... i'll have 40 alts with at least 3 powerschoices i'll need to make and NO SLOTS to make whatever i pick worth using... unless i do MASSIVE reworking/twicking, frankinslotting of them all...
Belive it or not... this accually is kind of scaring me off a bit from making my return.... (i've been away a few months...) I'm a bit OCD with my creations... I'd have a real hard time just retooling a few and not all of them... that's my plan.... but... eh.
I'm happy for the people who are happy for this. (belive it or not). But this is going to be a real headach for me... -
I would like to point out, that, while it seems this comic itself may not be as bad as the artical made it out to me, *my* grips stem mainly from what i presive as a trend, thanks in large part to smallville, to kind of add unessessry "drama" to an origin story that IMHO doesn't need it, and infact, IMO, in a way tants it.
If this comic isn't doing that, then, great. I may give it a shot and the artical is dead wrong. But, thanks to smallivlle, it was all to believable. -
Heh. Few years back... on a board... can't recall which one it was... SWG's i think... my fav comment i got on my spelling was from a guy who says he was an english teacher. He told me I made him cry and question his lot in life.
(if he really was a teacher or not, who can say, it is the interwebs after all.

Since I *hope* someone would correct me if I make a serious grammar mistake, I don't have a problem correcting the serious mistakes of others. If this makes me a grammar nazi, then I'm ready for my armband, Mr. Goebbels.
Minor mistakes, like typos or the occasional mispelled word, I let slide. I write most of my posts at work and I have to be fast or some boss will catch me. I expect everyone else is in a similar situation, so we'll all fat-finger a key once in a while.
I accually kind of get a kick out of people "proofing" my work for me, even if they are being meanspirited about it. Haven't really ran into any real bad grammer nazi's on these boards, which IMO is shows what a friendly little community we have.
I know i can't spell well. I know i'm rushing and typically will make little typos on top of my bad spelling. I know i can sound like i'm from a different country and english is my 2nd language. (i've had people ask...) I know most of this could be rectfied if i'd put a little more work into my posts. But i don't, and relise that leaves me a wide open target. I'm ok with that. I've always been a bit of an alph dork, and got ribbed for it ALOT in my Jr. Highschool days. I suppose some would call it "bullying", but, eh, i developed very thick skin and learn to, both like the person I am, but also not take myself to seriously in the process.
Some people can be really witty with there remarks and potshots at me. They make me laugh, so how can i feel bad about it?? LOL -
Quote:Surely you can remember small words, though. Here you use "lead" when you mean to use "led." This is a common problem that I see all the time and I think it stems from the fact that present and past tense of "read" is spelled the same yet pronounced as "reed" and "red." "Lead" which sounds like "led" is the metal. (Homophones are fun.)
The spelling of "intresting" could be a typo so I normally wouldn't even comment on that, but based on the rest of your post I do wonder.... There are quite a few people -- I include myself -- who pronounce the word as "intresting," which might make you think it's actually spelled that way, rather than "interesting." However, this is a case where spellcheck is your friend.
"Misconnumations" though... man, I don't even know where to start with that. That's the kind of thing which actually does bother me, because it seems like you've given a stab at it and just gave up. I can't even conceive of a time when anyone might actually pronounce "miscommunications" as "misconnumations." At least not without having had their face kicked in by Reichsman or something.
People who can write well do very well in business. It's a skill anyone should practice, really.
My business is international trade, mainly importing and exporting. It requires alot of paperwork, and, honestly, my paperwork is always is good order, spelled and checked carefully. I have a ton of cheat sheet laying around my desk with proper spelling of common words i have issues with, past versions of similar documents for an outline, and a whole bunch of pretyped up, double and triple checked for accurecy.
When it's importent, I put ALOT of effort into making it perfect. (bit of a prefectionist, belive it or not...) It's just... this isn't that "importent" in the grand scheam of things... it's really not. *shrug* So, i guess, a part of it is also lazyness on my part. I'll own up to that.
an intresting tid bit. I accually had a Poem up for publiacation when i was in highschool, for... something, the Libraian asked me for permission to submit it. I'm not sure if it made it or not, i didn't care that much... It was just an assignemt to me. My writing protfolieo... yeah, that one's mangled, anyway, it was rated above average, belive it or not. And once the schools stopped having weekly spelling tests, like, about the 6th grade IIRC, I went from a C and D english student to an A student. My reading comprehision and public speaking always rated near the top of the class, it was my spelling, and grammer that held me down. *shrug* -
Quote:My thing about grammar and spelling, especially in forums and emails, is that people type like they're in a hurry or they're under some sort of character limit. You have all the time in the world to spell things correctly and use proper grammar. I look up words that I'm not sure I spelled correctly before I hit Submit. I want people to understand what I'm trying to say and not get distracted by how I said it.
Like it or not, people base opinions of you and your intelligence on how well you can speak or write before they even look at the content of your post. There are some folks on the forum that might be taken way more seriously than they are, but their inability to use punctuation, capitalization, or even paragraph breaks, dilutes their message. Non-native English speakers have an excuse. The rest of us do not.
I'm not going to correct every mistake I see, but I am going to move you down the ladder a rung or two if you're a chronic language hack.
Some of us post at work, and while we are allowed to do so, which i am, it's not something i'm allowed to spend all day one, so yeah, i tend to be a tad rushed when i'm posting. Also, my spelling has been bad my whole life, and not for lack of trying, i just, can't really sound things out...(hooked on phonicx didn't work for me....) and well,i can't remember EVERY word in the english language to spell from memory. And if i can't spell it in the first place, spell check is of limited use... i'm not always sure which word is right... and well... it's lead to some intresting misconnumations in the past, and a lot of laughter from my dear old Mother who would proof read my school reports and homework, for that very reason mainly.
So, all in all, my internet "speach" is always going to make me look stupid. I'm thankful I sound much more intellegent IRL. (or so i've told by people who know me both on the interwed, and IRL.) It's also the reason i shy aways from sending e-mails at work and tend to do bussiness over the phone. *shrug* -
It's the internet... I though overreaction was mandated...
But there is some genuine pain assouated with seeing one of your childhood icons "twilighted"...
Now, after me and my sister resounding had a laught at this idea, we both agreed this would be an intresting look for SuperBOY... the new (well not really new anymore) Conner Kent clone Superboy. It'd be better IMO then his current Tshit/jeans. Not a fan of that. It's not a BAD look persay... just... lazy... IMO. Put some effort into it man! -
Quote:You see, here's the thing, IMO of course. He does have "brood fodder". Destruction of his planet, being an orphen, and the only one of your kind left, thus the whole not fitting in angle, a constent struggle to keep a secret idenity from close friends, and of course the constent threat of supervillians and such. Even the golden age Superman lost his father at a reletively eairly age.in theory, Supes has some excellent 'brood fodder' to work with, i/e the destruction of his home planet.
alas for his potential angstyness he was subsequently raised in idyllic Midwestern splendor by a doting salt of the earth couple that instilled old-timey values.
If they want to do a total retcon and have his rocket land in Hell's Kitchen and have him raised by crack dealers, then okay.
But you can't graft 'sexy moodiness' onto the basic Superman myth without eliciting howls of laughter.
He's got baggage sure, but "brood fodder" doesn't automaticly = emo punk. People can deal with there baggage and stay optimistic, idealistic, and no become dissilliusoned brooding people. Seems to me that mordern story tellers have forgotten this. Personal tradigity and hardship doesn't automaticaly = brooding emo. And Superman, has NEVER been like that. And he's dealth with alot of tragity on and off in the 70 or 80 plus years he's been around, and it hasn't broken or changed him.
It's a sign of the times. Look at ventiage heros. The eairly heros, with almost the solo exception being Batman, where basically normal, decent people who got superpowers and started being do gooders as a result. This whole, tradigity must spur on heroics is a more morden thing in comics as far as i can tell. (well, it's been becoming more and more prevelent in the last 20 years anyways.) -
Brooding is NOT Superman... my god...
Brooding is Batman... Brooding is, a big chunk of Marvel anymore and alot, if not, most new "hero" types i've seen in a long time... but Brooding is NOT Superman...
This is the reason I hate smallville... the missed the point of Clark Kent and Superman... so badly it's as if they were shoting blindfoled.. on a horse... in a different county... while high on crack...
Superman is a boyscout. An optimist. He's nearly always got a positive outlook and tries his very best to see the good in everyone. And he is that way because of his upbringing. The Kents did an exellent job in rasing a very level headed, good hearted man who, happend to be the most powerful man in the world, and who in turned uses that power to help people, out of the shear kindness of his heart.
No tradigety in his past... no destiny he had to fullfill... just a good person with Superpowers trying to do the right thing. THAT'S Superman. An imbodyment of what most consider the best quailites of mankind, ironically enough housed in an alien man.
Smallville... with there angisty, brooding, destiny filled crap have... bah, no since in ranting. I've done that enough already... And now this... LOL. *shrug*
God only knows if this trend keeps up what the next movie will look like... -
Quote:I've got a lvl 50 DN/Nin and frankly it was a blast to play. Yeah, the combo system was more restricted as a stalker, since placate and AS were part of some chains and you kind of had to plan it out, lest you waste a move. But, i tend to recall never really being bothered by it. I tended to play in teams more then solo, so, i scrapped with him alot, so, I'd open on a hard boss with an AS, then placate - heavy attack, then aoe/combos till the mob was done, then move on. Maybe that's why the combo restrictions didn't bother me as much, since i relied a little less on AS then most stalkers prolly do.It's my understanding that Stalker DB is somewhat screwed up with regards to the combo system, since you normally start a fight with Assassin's Strike instead of picking whichever attack begins the combo you want. I've never played it myself, but I see that there's a recent discussion here in the stalker forums.
I found a system that worked, allowed me to use both my combos and stalker skills in tandom, and allowed me to lay out some pretty impressive AoE damage for a stalker. Considering most stalkers only have one, or NO aoe attacks, having... 3? (maybe 2... havent played him in a while.) was really nice.
All i can say is, I had ALOT of fun playing Tangleweb. More fun then i did leveling up my other stalker a BS/SR. The BS/SR is MUCH stronger, but not as fun. (softcapped and insane single target dmg... he's a beast...) -
Quote:If your looking to save slots, just go with... well, nothing after I19. You'll get swift, hurdle NR, and sprint all for free. SLOT lvl 50 run IO's in there, and you'll pretty much be good to go. You'll have more then enough speed and vertical leap to get to 90% of the game in a very reasonable ammount of time, esspecally once you learn the lay of the land and all the short cuts. As for argo, I don't know, maybe it's 6 years of play expearince, but i can run my lvl 1 toons through almost any zone and not die... and can't remember the last time i have died in travel... and i have alot of guys that use the NR.Sprint + fitness for travel. (it's my new goto travel set up for people who don't HAVE special travel powers in there concepts. Used to be superjump.)I'm trying to save as many slots as possible so...
I'm getting hasten and stealth anyway. Do I get super speed or invisibility for traveling? I'm sure the ninja run speed doesn't stack with SS but do I still get the jumping ability from it?
If you want a proper travel power, and are taking hasten, superspeed is awsome. If your not married to stealth, i'd recommond combat jumping. You get good vertical, to help SS, and a defence bonus that doesnt' suppress, and it costs next to nothing to run. (plus some immob res IIRC.) It's a better deal IMO unless stealth is part of your concept. -
Quote:My defining memory of the Walkman Era is rewinding cassettes by sticking a #2 pencil through the spindle and whirling them around by hand to save the batteries.
RIP Sony Walkman, long live its spiritual MP3 offspring!
Defining memory of the walkman? Similiar to yours i guess, but, instead of trying to save batteries, i was trying to save my TAPE from the hungry walkman.Maybe i was a rough kid, but my walkmen never lasted long, and always took one of my tapes down with them.

Quote:Yeah. I was forced to watch this movie at a "movie night" a friends wife threw together...Is that the one where they are trying to kill off the kids because the mother married an unacceptable husband and returns home when he dies?
Apperently it's a classic....
The mother marries her STEPbrother. No blood relation mind you, but still at the time considered an insestuious relanship. She's disowned by her father and mother, a wealthy family, or they are i guess, when you think about it. (he's a stepchild) He dies... forget how... war maybe? car accdent... She's forced to go back home, and the mother and grandmother hatch a scheam to get the grandfather to forgive her, but hidding the fact she had kids (3 of them), by locking them in an attic. The kids went along with it at first, cause it was supposed to end with the grandfather forgiving the mother, writing her back into the will, and dieing... but the grandmother talks her into posining the kids. One dies... the youngest, the other 2 fight back, the grandmother dies... ect ect ect.
It was... intresting is about the best i can say for it. It's supposed to be a classic. *shrug* Had a few really awarked sceens of the sister taking a bath, and her brother just kind of hanging out with her in the bath room chatting it up... having a younger sister, the whole thing just kind of wireded me out...
Differnetly a bad parent. forgot about that movie till you guys brought it up... -
Al Bundy accually really loved his family, they just drove him insane at the same time.
Al handed out a great many Bundy buttkickings in defence of his wife and kids. And had many chances to cheat on Peggy, with some truely HOT women, but never did. Was he a GOOD father? Eh... well, he sure wasn't a BAD one at least. LOL.
Peter and Lois Griffen... now THEY are bad parents. Prolly the worst ones you can be, without being evil about it. (Plenty of fictional parents that are just evil, planing on using the child for a scrafice or something. They... IMO are just evil.) -
Quote:DC Comics is letting readers vote for the new leader of the Legion of Super-Heroes (which used to be a big tradition in the past).
They've set up a website for people to cast their votes.
It's kinda fun that we get a say in who leads the team. And the writer, Paul Levitz, has to figure out how to make it work, which can sometimes turn into a cool story he wouldn't have thought of otherwise.
So if you're interesting, head on over and vote.
And Long Live the Legion!
EDIT: DC has a post about this election on their blog.
Eh?? When did they relaunch the Legion?? I was a huge legion fan in the 90's, right after the Zero hour relaunch, (with newer names, and new guys like that Flash Girl XS, was her name? ect) then they ended.. relaunched... as kind of jerky kids IIRC, but it got better... then, they ended... right? Now this? Are they new and different then before again??
Bah... I love the Legion but they make it hard to keep up.... heh. -
That's a decent point, prolly do a little post production work to it, and it may help some i guess. *shrug*

Quote:My 280 is starting to show it's age a BIT. I can't quite max out EVERYTHING in CoH and keep my FPS where i like it, but I can, get it looking REALLY sweet and still clocking in at 60 FPS. (I'm a stickler for FPS)Ah! Makes more sense now.
GTX 280 was the best option available at one time and is still a really good card! My 480 still hasn't found anything it can't max yet, but it's only a matter of time! lol
FFXIV, I have to run at mid quality, maybe a few options set to high... it's FPS is bearable, and it still looks good, but no, i can't max that out without it looking like a slideshow.
Good think FFXIV didn't suck me in... can't say I really liked it at all honestly... Won't be upgrading for it, that's for sure. My next PC game i'll trying is prolly DCU, maybe the Force Unleashed 2, i haven't decided what system to get it for... PS3 or PC... I'm torn. Pretty sure my system will handle them with no issues. After that it's TOR. At that point, I'll be upgrading my system to meet it's max specs. I'm pretty hyped about that game.May see me asking for some upgrade advice once that puppy gets close to live. LOL

Nothing's WRONG with it persay... it's just... eh, ugly. The suit is too, IMO. It's not my bag, so to speak, but you can't please everyone. I'll still see this movie, I've been a GL fan for years, started reading the books when Kyle took over, not a big fan of Hal, but eh, what can you do? And RR has proven himself to me to be a decent to pretty good actor, so, it's got potentual, even if i'm not a fan of the direction they seem to be going with the SFX. -
Quote:LMAO... yeah, that's it... and it's making me laugh again. LOLThis? He should win an award for hilariously bad acting.
-
It was pretty eairly in the movie. Two dudes working on cleaing the outside of a ship, i think.
One get killed while the othe isn't looking. The other gets grabed, and says "on, not like this..." The line itself isn't funny, it's the delivery. I haven't seen a line spoken so badly since Tommy Waso in "The Room". I laughed for 5 mins. You should google it.
And if you don't know what the room is, google it too. The nestalga critic did a review of it that good pulled from his sight, cause, Waso is sueing him i think. You can still find it around if you look... it's worth the effort IMO. -
-
Quote:because setting up your tivo takes alot of effort?Yeah I'm pretty much in the same boat with this: I've pretty much written off the "SyFy" channel for anything worthwhile and I have low expectations for this but for Felicia's sake I've got my TiVo set to record it. I'm hoping she's good enough to make it worth the effort.
I love SyFy movies. They crack me up like few others can. Prolly some of the funniest movies on TV. There was the line in Sharktopuss that was so, breathing takingly hilaruious i still chuckly when i think about it. My whole family was gasping for air after it.
Of sure, it wasn't supposed to be funny... but god it was hystrical.
I love syfy movies.Granted, if your lasy and don't have much time, just check The Soup each week. Joel normally has the highlights worth watching.

I *had* an SLI configuration a few years back when it first came out. Was WAY too much trouble at the time, and nothing supported it. So, I said screw it and went with a single, powerhouse of a card. (at the time, a GTX250, 1 gig, kind of dated now i guess)
Are things different now? Easier to get running, better supported? What is the benefit over a single, powerful GPU? As is, my CoH runs at about mid level utral mode. Most options on, and at mid to high quality. I turn bloom and depth of field off because i don't like how they look. I run a constent 60 FPS and the games pretty as get out. So i'm not in any hurry to upgrade, but, will prolly eventually, in a few months, and am considering my options. (new games on the horzian i want to meet the max req's for. (DCO, TOR, ect) -
Quote:This is clearly just an excuse for engineers to get topless women into their offices.

This will never catch on. I can't imagian trying to cover my body in stray paint is easier then putting on some underware, pants, and a shirt. I have alot of body to cover, would prolly need 2 cans and some help to get good coverage on my back.. so no, i'll stick with slacks and a tee shirt. Thanks anyways.
I'm also not digging the idea of a full body wax the first time i'd have to use the stuff...
