this is so stupid, just because they are adding a new feature does not mean that they should take one away. What they should do is give a choice on sound or visual sound.

[/ QUOTE ]

Wooo! Another one!

[ QUOTE ]
Ummm... I was sure this was a joke, just like most people around here...
But when I logged in earlier... it seems like the code for this somehow leaked out onto live.

Maybe it's just part of the joke... dunno...
Still sound on live, but tons of bubbles now.

I think I might quit and wait for the Pre-VS-CoH emulator. Although, they're not even including Villains, they hate them so much there too...

[/ QUOTE ]

o.O That's not VS, that's people making binds to fake this. I notice you said bubbles. You mean Speech Bubbles, right? Like from normal chatting. People do that all the time usually with inventive ways to call out their power
"Let me show you what wading through the River Styx would be like!"
*uses Tar Patch*

VS is a non-bubble sound visualization. Compare the april fools pictures to what you're seeing in the game. People are just adding

/local FREEM!

to their power attacks. Heck, they can edit the text bubbles to be transparent and have colors different from the normal black text white background.

Please use this thread to discuss the below announcement:

NCsoft NorCal is proud to announce a new feature for the City of Heroes® and City of Villains® games; that of Visual Sounds. Visual Sounds are based on the comic book staple of onomatopoeia, or the use of a word to replace a sound. Classic comic book examples are “Pow” and “Ka-Boom!” in colorful bubbles while heroes and villains are slugging it out. City of Heroes takes a huge stride forward by replacing simple sounds with the exciting new visual medium of Visual Sounds.

Click here to read the full announcement!

[/ QUOTE ]

Again, the NCNorCal team COMPLETELY misses the point of it all.

Where's the "PEW PEW"? Do your frackin' homework with the community before you announce something like this.

I swear.

The problem is "as all the sounds in the game are being removed to make room on the players’ hard drives for the new Visual Sound graphics." I like my machineguns, claws, weapons, fireblasts sounds. I do like tue grapic sounds, but if u take away all the sounds the gameplay will become quite stupid just because "music map + visual sounds" is way too boring.
And sorry i think this idea of "taking all the sounds" was "we wont give any choice to the player, HE WILL HAVE TO USE IT" sorry guys if the Devs remove all the sounds i wont play the game, its too stupid even for human normal levels of stupidity.

[/ QUOTE ]

This guy actually registered here to post this. This is his first post.

Oh wow! LOL! XD

Friend, you won't hear the end of that for signing up just to complain about an April Fool's Joke :3

*pat-pat* But we'll love you for it. Welcome to the Forums Ayos!
7. Am I wrong for wanting this to be real?

I mean, Freedom Force did it with sounds AND words, and it was too cool!

Having this for real would really be cool.

Now that one is wicked! Choose that one Blue Steel!
9. I am willing to wait as long as it takes for it to be done, because I will squee and squee very loudly when my energy blaster's blue blasts can be matched with blue pom-poms, or my Forcefield defender's bubbles can be a nice blue color rather than the teal they are now so they too match the blue blasts.

And I know the bubbles can be blue! There was a bug ages ago during Test, when they were changing the 2nd Upgrade power for MM's to not be nuke recharge time! The bug hit and everyone LOVED the dark blue it was :3

A hearbreaker when it was fixed.

Still. Power Customization is something I want, and I am willing to wait for it like a patient dog waiting for his master to come home. I may one day become like Fry's dog, but I'll still wait.

"...It's all a lie, everything. Hero1...what Hero1? There is no Hero1 so quit calling him that and call him what he really is, a traitor.

[/ QUOTE ]

No it's not. I killed Hero1 with my own hands and all of those who were near him and delivered his broken bloody body TO the Rikti in exchange for being a ruler of this world when they took over. Gradually, I gained the trust, confidence or *ahem* Relationships with every one of the signature Heroes and killed them all, and replaced them with robotic versions that would follow my orders.
Soon, as every new Hero took TFs or even Leveled Up through them, they too were killed and replaced.

13. [ QUOTE ]
So we're spiraling downwards into flames again. Great. Nothing I can't handle; I came from the Friggin' Taser School of Forum Warfare and I've learned from watching the best.

Now when you say "Attention," what you mean is "the attention we didn't get in issues 9, 10, and 11." Because if it's shared with the other half of the game ("Nuuuu! It's a whole different game!") then it's obviously no good, because it's not addressing the content gap. New stuff, fun stuff, it doesn't matter if it doesn't help villains play keep up with the Joneses. Nevermind the lack of resources blah blah NCSoft merger blah blah repeating myself.

I think the reason that villain players are still clinging so desperately to the notion that their "standalone sequel" is an "independent game" (in spite of what the lead developer for the entire game has already said) is that they want to be able to add the word "righteous" in front of their indignation. They don't want to face the reality that their group of hardcore villain-only players is one of many sub-groups among the playerbase, and that when it came time for the Devs to prioritize the content for their free expansions, that their wishes along with the wishes of other sub-groups were not as high priority as developing new content that everyone could enjoy, no matter what side they played on.

But no... these players are just dead-set on painting themselves as being ignored, neglected, patronized, lied to... in short... they want to see themselves as victims. Anyone who offers a rational explanation that goes against the victim mentality is clearly a blue-side brown-noser, a hypocrite, or ignorant of their own bias. It's a mentality they've fiercely defended... but it's transparent.

Blue-side... no, sorry, BOTH-side players have been getting wild accusations in this thread about secretly wanting CoV to just wither and die off already. Well, let me turn that around. I think villain-only players should just admit that they'd love it if they could close that content gap, even if it meant pissing off the greater majority of the playerbase to do so. Screw everyone else, they're just hypocrites anyway...

Ugh, CoH on a console. What an abomination.

[/ QUOTE ]
Not sure I agree with you on this A_C.
Porting our MMO to PS3? yeah bad call.
NCNC using the resources they already have in place to set up say...
A sandbox style superhero sim/action game along the lines of the Spiderman games, but incorperating the character creator, and the vast array of powers and power set combinations?
Given a decent enemy AI and enough variety in missions... Something like that make all those concolse gamers out there cream thier jeans.

[/ QUOTE ]

THANKYOU! Someone else is looking beyond "CoH MMO on the PS3" line everyone else is forcing themselves into.

Why does it have to be an MMO? Think of a single console or linked game multiplayer of a ActionRPG, like Marvel Ultimate Alliance or maybe some RTS!

Think outside of the MMO Box! There's too much out of an MMO that could be done.

Ever played the old SNES game, Spider-Man & Venom: Maximum Carnage? A fairly cool beat-um-up with assist attacks/support powers from other Heroes.

Now, think of that, in 3D, and instead of Spider-Man & Venom, it's a re-creation of Web of Arachnos novel! We'd get to play an adventure game of finding the Well of Furies, avoiding the cops, then becoming Statesman and forming the Freedom Phalanx! Players 2,3,4 could be other members, and those who aren't could be Assist Attacks.

Or like I first mentioned, an RTS that lets us be a Vanguard commander during the Rikti War, commanding squads of human soldiers, single units of Heroes, and having the "Hero Units" being the signiture characters in CoH! If Halo can get Halo Wars, then we could get City of Heroes: Rikti War!
15. [ QUOTE ]
Ugh, CoH on a console. What an abomination.

[/ QUOTE ]

Maybe he's talking about a non-MMO version of CoH? Think of something like Marvel Ultimate Alliance, or a full out action game like Jedi Knight, or a RTS of the Rikti War!
Maybe a normal turn based RPG in the vein of Final Fantasy or side scrolling beat-em-up al-a Final Fight.
Heck, maybe a vs fighting game like Street Fighter! I'd even take a side scrolling action game on the Nintendo DS (I know someone on the fourms has an avatar of the Freedom Phalanx in 8-bit graphics, and that avatar is pure win).

A console version of CoH doesn't have to be an MMO.

After seeing the teaser stuff on Halo Wars for the XBox 360, I'd kill to have something like that of the Rikti War, or Brass Monday, or heck, even the Longbow/Arachnos battles in Siren's Call.

Edit: Well, dang. Seeing Ex's post, there go my dreams of a Rikti War RTS.

You don't want the damn zone anyway. You guys [censored] and moan that there's nothing to do there. So fine, your "empty" zone is gone, CoV has something new to do. Mmmkthnxbaibai.

[/ QUOTE ]

No, I do want the zone, but I want something to do while I'm in there. There's a reason I didn't visit the old Faultline, and there's a reason I *DO* visit the new Faultline.

But I'm sure, judging by your previous posts, that you won't understand why I didn't visit the old Faultline and I don't go into Boomtown.
17. [ QUOTE ]
You don't want the zones. We do want new zones. Why are you fighting so hard to deny Villains ANYTHING?

[/ QUOTE ]

Because we want zones that have things to do in them? If you want more Boomtowns, then go ahead; have 20 or 30 zones that're a copy of Boomtown with just as much to do there as there is Heroside.

Empty content for the sake of content isn't an improvement. First, CoV needs to be brought up to speed to things CoH already has in abundance, for example, TFs for all the level ranges, which is one thing CoV really falls behind.

And if they transfered zones over and revamped them for CoV, where does that leave CoH? Do you give them the revamped zone? Leave it as-is?

Considering how long it took to get Faultline redone, getting new zones or redone ones will take quite some time. I'd much rather have more content to fill the holes that the zones have.
18. [ QUOTE ]
Hazard zones ARE content, and good-night.

[/ QUOTE ]

Makes me wonder what kind of content Boomtown has in CoH that isn't found in any other zone. I mean, there's no missions in it, like the Hollows, aside from the "Into Mish/Street Hunt" that every zone tends to get, there's no story arcs for it. The Giant Monster in there can also be found in a TF found in Skyway.

And I dont consider missions from other contacts that send you to Boomtown that could have been just as easily sent to Steel, Skyway or any other randomly generated spot as content. Since some missions work that way (Random Zone for mission door), that's not really content that's part of that zone.

But then again, maybe that's why Boomtown is so . . . empty.

It's still content though, right?
19. Well, trying to read through 35 pages of questions and answers was difficult, and I haven't found an answer to my question.

My dad's computer upgraded to Vista, and now CoH will crash to a black screen within a minute or two from starting. It'll even happen on the character select screen.

DxDiag and Hijack is over in a seperate thread Here

I suppose that means States won't be posting anymore as a Redname? Will he at least get to keep his forum name?

Heh, and this makes me wonder how many more people will say the game is now 'free' from his dark grip? It always amused me what people said about Statesman, from having a retarded vision for the game, to wanting the game shut down, all the way to hating the entire game industry.

I'd like the ability to dual weild rapiers. As it stands on test (I can look at the options, I just cant' actually PLAY), you can have a rapier and a main gauche, but not two rapiers. Please let us have two rapiers!

It may be unconventional, but due to the lightness of a rapier compared to other swords of it's size, it's POSSIBLE, especially in a fantasy/comic book setting!

"Moral Combat"

From what I've seen, it's gone like this.

ZOMG! Radio Plays will ruin our children! They'll try to act out what they hear! BAN IT! Think of the children!

and that didn't work. So

ZOMG! Comic Books will ruin our children! They'll try to act out what they read! BAN IT! Please think of the children!

THAT didn't work. So

ZOMG! MOVIES will ruin our children! They'll try to act out what they watch! BAN IT! Will you PLEASE think of the children!?

Again, it didn't work. So

ZOMG! Dungens & Dragons will ruin our children! They'll try to act out what the RP! BAN IT! Will you *PLEASE* think of the children already?!

Again, same reaction. (You seeing a pattern here?) So

ZOMG! Rock and Roll will ruin our children! They'll act out what they're hearing! THINK OF THE CHILDREN ALREADY!

Once again, Head On: applied directly to your forehead. So

ZOMG! Video Games will ruin our children! They'll act out what they do in the games! BAN IT! Why won't you think of the children?!

It ain't working, and I'm quite sure it won't work in the end. We still have comic books, rock and roll, radio plays (though those aren't as big as they used to), movies and all that.

Granted, when the government actually does get involved and tries to ban games, we all jump on their backs and make them remember that They work for Us and we can make sure They no longer do and we find someone Else to work for Us.

I myself, love the Jump Jet. It's cool on my SJers, and a godsend for my SSers. Plus, it's a nice afterburner for my flyers, since I'm not going to spend exta slots for fly speed, considering my Dark/Dark Defender's build it tight enough as is ^_^

I have heard of prosecutors complaining that CSI has caused some jurors to demand slam-dunk evidence that is sometimes impossible to get.

[/ QUOTE ]

That ones very much true. When I was on Jury Duty last year, the prosecutor went on a 2 minute explentation to remind the jury that "This is NOT CSI. There's not going to be precise DNA Evidence or open-and-shut stuff like on that show. This is real life. You just need 'beyond a reasonable doubt' to convict him." which he made sure to mention a number of times so that it sunk in. Luckily the entire jury was made up of reasonable people and were able to look at the case and evidence that way and didn't need reminding.
(The case was a stolen gun from a neighbor. THere was a broken window, trail of blood from the back door/window to the bedroom where the missing gun was, and the trail of blood led back to the guy's appartment, where the cop found him asleep on the couch, hand still bleeding and poorly bandaged. . . it took us all of 15 minutes to descide the guy was guilty. The judge told us after the case that we were the fasted jury to go to deliberation that she's ever had! XD)
