Is there a suggested minimum level for this? Task forces were mentioned, so I'm assuming 'higher level is better' and some sort of bare minimum so you don't keep the team from playing the TFs they want.
-
That depends entirely on what definition of 'monster' you're using. =P

But I like having a meat shield to hide behi-- Tag team Recluse with!

Since I've tweaked the arc a bit, I'll be resubmitting it. ID# 478741

Quote:"Second wave attack!" "OH CRAP!"yes the waves stop you can go to cave and fight reichmen never goes down stairs. aprox 10 waves 5 waves all together then a stop then reich says " 2nd wave attack" ( or something like that) then another 5 waves...
Anyway, I tagged along for a Kahn earlier today. It went by so fast sometimes I swear I barely stepped in the mission door before stepping back out. -

Lead an ITF and got just enough shards to finish off my first Rare. My Scrapper has joined the ranks of 50 (+1)'s. =P
...Okay, I didn't so much 'lead' is as 'get everyone on the team and then let the Tanker tell everyone what to do, 'cause he was obviously more experienced.' But still. =| -
Quote:I read the reason plenty well. I just have a hard time believing one person leaving matters so much. It lasted a year without him. What changed? Inactivity? Oh, how terrible. All the people who have been saying that someone should pick up the mantle, well, I have to say read the reasoning given better.
Keep chugging. They'll come back, eventually. Or you'll find replacements. That's life, after all. Sometimes you have to go make new friends. -
Quote:Oh, don't think that I'm telling them that they should stay together. I'm just commenting on all that work put into their base and recruiting members seems wasted to just end it all in one fell swoop.going to have to agree with Toony here , if the SG wants to disband thats their bussiness I appreciate them letting us know and im sad to see it happen but sometimes its really for the best to disband and try something new .
Plus my disbelief that there isn't a single member who'd want to keep running it. -
I have a hard time believing that no one in this long running SG is willing to continue running it in the same spirit is had when it was first founded.
Are you honestly telling me that's not a single person willing to even try to save it? That's not sad or disappointing. It skips right into pathetic. If the SG was as important and had as much of an impact as everyone says it has, then someone must be willing to keep it going.
Yes, I know I sound harsh, but I'm not seeing any reason they should burn out or fade away, when they could keep on existing successfully. -
Quote:Hey, I'm all for that. Explanations, no matter how weird, are good. Since we're talking about super human abilities to start with.Technically, most super-strength is telekinesis. Superman for example is able to lift gigantic things like airplanes, tankers or train cars, often just holding them by one end. Which is fine for him, he's like super-everything. But that thing he's holding isn't. Even if you had the strength to lift up a plane by its nose, the stress and its own weight would still tear it in half. Does that ever happen to Supes? No. So his strength must somehow affect the entire plane evenly, which would really fall into the realm of telekinetic abilities.
Yes I know this is silly, but I like having an explanation for inexplicable abilities. Screw me.
And yeah, most super strength is just a limited form of telekinesis. "Limited" being the keyword, since they can't lift stuff at a distance... or punch straight through someone's squishy, squishy torso. -
Oh yeah, I love spontaneity. Much fun can be had trying to figure out why this motley crew got together.

Quote:You know, I'm not all that bright, but it seems to me that if everyone goes "Oh noes! Red side is dead!" and runs to blue... They are in effect beating a dying man instead of getting him to a hospital.I desperately want to play my widow, but the only time she groups is when I portal her to praet.
Red Side is dead. I have attempted starting teams, finding teams.
Heck I have now moved all of my red side toons over to the blue side, by either tipping them or starting them over in praet.
Sad though because the villain side has so much flare.
Instead of all of the complaining, I don't know, get your friends together and all decide to spend a week playing red side only. And not just together, but spread out a little. Encourage some growth. -
Aw, but I appreciate the medics! 'Course, I main a Regen... So everyone else just seems to have a horrifically slow regen rate. Anyone that makes up for it is my friend.
...And now I regret deleting my Emp/DP Defender. I probably could have got her up to 40 by teaming during the weekend... -
Quote:Heh. I roleplay my Kin/SR Scrapper as just having very short range gravity manipulation. She can create a strong force to pull her out of the way of an incoming attack (and to keep her from losing her balance), but she can only use it short bursts.Yeah...now while this wouldn't work with all power sets, saying your Super Strong isn't OPed with a long of concepts.
So she's described as essentially having Super Strength, but only for throwing punches and the like. She can flip a car, but she can't hold it over her head, y'know?
I actually had that concept in mind for over a year, never found a powerset I felt fit it. I'd have made her a regular Super Strength, but she's not a Brute or Tanker type of character. Energy Melee came close, but just didn't do it for me. Then Kinetic Melee got added.
I love you, devs. -
Quote:How? Super strength could just be using really, really close range telekinesis.yeah...although I'm beginning to wonder if I made my character TOO strong.
like I don't...play him as godly, but he's telekinetic, and also has super strength.
a lot of people seem to thinnk tat's super overpowered. Although I constantly do get threats from non-supers saying "I will kill you" or "you can't kill me" which I find hilarious >o> -
Quote:Heh, yeah. I try to keep my snarky comments fairly sparse for that reason. Though I have a few personal jokes I wind up using nearly every time I team up. (Though never all on one mission.)(to me, a hero or villain wouldn't...do that, even in downtime.)
My favorite? "If I say something stupid, I blame X." Where X is usually something that happened on the last mission. Most frequent? Head trauma. Especially if she winds up floored more than once in a single mission.
Making jokes in her downtime about getting horrifically injured (being a Regen and all) is her way of coping, though. She insists to herself that the injuries aren't serious so she doesn't freak out over some of the stuff that happens to her. My other characters have different ways of coping.
Having some sort of character flaw is a must, in my opinion. Even if a character isn't very powerful, if they don't have flaws... Then they're just kind of flat. -
Quote:I prefer 'sparse'. It isn't that people aren't around red side, it's just that there any spots they really form groups and stand around.- NO red side is not dead or empty.
Im just saying, please, pick other other words to describe red side.
Just earlier today I was playing red side and had a few people fly past me. And I was only on long enough to do the costume slot mission. -
To each their own. I like smacking around villains when no one else is around. Makes me feel needed.
-
Quote:Really? 'Cause a quick search usually pulls up a half dozen available people for me, at least.Couldn't find anyone during double XP weekend either. I'm actually hesitant to make a villain again because it's so empty now.
Maybe it's just the time of day. I generally play during the middle of the day or late at night. I rarely have trouble finding someone to play with, probably because everyone else is bored out of their minds and has nothing to do. My bet is that when the server is packed, everyone is off on teams already... Except us stragglers. -
Since the old complaint thread rose from the dead, I figured we could use a thread to be, y'know, positive.
Just tell us what you like and maybe why you like it. Character quirks, bios, scenarios you found fun and memorable, that sort of thing.
So I'll start us off:
My personal preference is for light role playing and snark during missions. Mostly in the form of the occasional witty (supposedly) one liner. Or making fun of myself for getting floored. It helps that I main a Regen who has, by level 50, gotten used to having to regrow limbs.
I like dark and 'brooding' characters that aren't too dark and brooding. My token brooder, whose had a cosmic horror playing with him like a puppet for a while, is a pretty cheerful guy now that he's no longer under the influence. A cheerful guy who's still all 'business' about bringing in villains. And isn't the least bit opposed to lethal force if it comes to it. (Though I like to imply he just shoots to wound most of the time. He's not a Punisher styled 'kill-absolutely-everybody' type of guy.)
And perhaps my favorite is when a character has a memorable but not too annoying quirk. I've got a cheerful android red side who ends every other sentence with 'yes'. I just find it cute and silly.
One of my friends plays a cat girl, who is essentially a parody of the concept. Her bio is short and to the point: "Most people who like cats just get a cat. She became a cat themed super hero. Yeah, she's not all there." She's also played to fit, since she'll spontaneously shout "I'm a kitty!" or give a seemingly forced "Meow" while on missions. Really plays up the idiot hero approach without being too invasive about it. (While often making those comments, the player doesn't stand around typing instead of fighting, for one.) -
Quote:I usually only form a team out of desperation. Half the time I don't have luck. (Had plenty of luck during 2xp, mostly because I focused on sewer teams.) But I'm patient enough to wait around for fifteen minutes for a reply, at least.I laugh at people who say stuff like this, because obviously everyone is a team forming genius who enjoys forming their own teams all the time regardless of what level they are and never, ever want to join people who already have a team going.
However, I do prefer just joining an existing team. It's just my play style, like how I prefer being a damage dealer or a heavily support based Defender: I'd rather someone tell me who to shoot or to keep my attention on the team's buffs and health then to try and keep a group working efficiently. Too much work.
And that being said, anyone who obsesses over getting an 8-man going loses out, in my opinion. (Read: Ignore it if you disagree.) Some of my favorite CoH moments have been on 4-man teams. Or duo-ing. Especially if it's a duo that can handle the mobs of a 3- or 4-man team. Bad ***.
As such, I've never had too much trouble getting a group together. There always seems to be someone around willing to tag along and I'm rarely disappointed. With the exception of trying to run a TF. I've never successfully led a TF. (Though I haven't really tried since getting my new ISP, so getting DCed isn't an issue any more...) -
