BTW, what is the 'aproximate' lvl for monday? 6? 8?
[/ QUOTE ]
From a couple of pages back, by Leif...
[ QUOTE ]
I think we should aim for ~ level 10 instead to try and keep the level-gap narrow
[/ QUOTE ]
10 is the answer! -
[ QUOTE ]
I might see if anyone would object to it being used?
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually I would. There are some of the original members still around. For whom the name has meaning. It was more than just a name, it was a description of a group of friends.
And what Z said. -
Lets not start going on about the team names... Because it sounds too much like this:
A primary school in Scotland has had to change the numbering of its two Primaty 1 classes because the parents of the children in class 1b thought their children were being marked as inferior, even though the split between class a and b was purely down to which month the child was born... Don't think this is true?
BBC News story...
We could have teams Silver and Steel if Bronze makes too many people feel second best...? -

Burny Wednesday
[/ QUOTE ]
Quick skim reading of this told my brain Bunny Wednesday which really, really confused me, and slightly worried me.
Then I re-read it.
My cinema plans have been shunted to tomorrow, so is anything happening tonight? -

Paragon City is in Rhode Island State, USA.

Just down the road from Quahog... -

Hmmm if someone was sensible
[/ QUOTE ]
Good god man! Have you gone completely crackers? Sensible people? On the Intermajiggernet? I won't hear of it!
As I think I might have said before, possibly twice, any day is fine for me. I've made my character and run him through Breakout (I'm planning to be at the cinema tomorrow night)... Very basic character details just now... He's a Dark/Dark Brute called Touchdown. Basic idea is he's an All-American high school football jock that fooled around with the occult at a drunken party and now he's not himself anymore... Fleshing out will be done as time progresses... -
[ QUOTE ]
Good point, and im still not free Monday evenings
[/ QUOTE ]
Aha! Then you've not been cloned... Or else you have, and your clone also attends whatever it is you are doing on Monday evenings too...
You should manage your clone better.
Oh, if we do decide to end up with an SG, I have one called The Vendetta that I was going to use with Reb... But he left... So, it's kinda bobbing around a bit aimlessly just now... Free to a good home, if required. -
Just noticed this...
[ QUOTE ]
1. Mastermind: Cognito
2. Mastermind: _Max_
3. Mastermind: Cognito, Crack Head
[/ QUOTE ]
I think there's still a Mastermind opening... Unless Cognito has been cloned or something... -
Um, I'm not playing a Dominator... Leif is...
-
No-one seems to like Dominators... I'm basing this on the fact that there's only one...
Oh, thought I better add that I'm a very naughty player and actually make up my character's character adlib style, so no background coming from me...
What?
I'm not a fountain of pre-planned creativity... I'm a fountain of random creativity! -
What about Sundays? Would most people be available on Sundays?
Just throwing this out there... -
Any day is OK for me, except that I have to do a late night to 8pm every 2 weeks at work. So no matter which day is chosen, once every 10 weeks I'll be unavailable.
Um, to clear that up, the day is moved on every time... If you do late Monday, two weeks later you do Tuesday, a 15 day gap... Until the Friday, then it's only a 10 day gap until you do it again... Friday Lates are the worst ones... And I can look forward to one in two weeks... Joy. -
I'll sign up for a Brute slot!
I'll just redo the one I started about 3 days ago... He's only level3 so it's not much of a bother to start him up again. -
Sounds like this could be a heroic version of Radio Free Opportunity... Except without the whole allusion that you've gone crazy and the radio is talking specifically to you...
If you don't know what I'm on about, one of the CoV mission contacts in Port Oakes is a radio that talks to you. You're never quite sure if it's just you...
Good luck with it!
Radio says kill... *evil grin* -
[ QUOTE ]
As usual it is founded that CoH RPers don't like change... as I have seen here, people don't like change, not speakin for all of ya of course...
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm sick to the back teeth with this stupid, simplistic and frankly baseless accusation continuously being leveled at the established RP community.
You use the word "founded", that means they've been doing what they're doing for a long time. If they've been doing it that way for a long time, that means two things.
One: It works for them.
Two: They like it that way.
If you come along to a long established group who are quite happy doing what they're doing and decide you don't like what they're doing, what you do is go and find people that are doing what you like.
What you don't do is continuously snipe at them for doing what they like, just because you don't like it.
If you decide to join in with that group, don't act all "oh woe is me" when you annoy them by not following their rules and they tell you off. That's like joining a tennis club then complaining that the net across the court is preventing you from playing football then acting surprised when you get kicked out.
I'm sure everyone is fully aware that you're aiming your barb at GG, well like I've said on this forum before, if you don't like how GG works, no-one's forcing you to go there. And no-one's stopping you going off and doing your own thing somewhere else. -
[ QUOTE ]
You figured it out already yourself, but never let someone tell something is impossible. The past failures of others should never be taken as indication of future successes. Could be none of the ideas presented within the week in here will work. Could be sceptics are right. But we won't know it unless we give all the fine ideas the best shot that we can.
I am not interested in what has been discussed or tried before! If an idea of mine flops it's not because the idea in itself was flawed, I just didn't have enough energy to see it through.
The coalition starts here.
The common universe starts here.
RP'd mission groups and the like, up up and away!
By the people who want to make it happen, for the people who wish to be a part of something grand.
The rest can do their own thing. Just like we do.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wow. You sound almost exactly like the middle management where I work...
Point 1: If something has been tried before and failed, it is often a good idea to analyse it before attemtpting to re-invent the chocolate teapot. Example one, do not invade Russia. Napoleon tried it, failed. Hitler tried it, failed. Past failures tell you that your idea has to be radically different to the ideas that came before. All the 'sceptics' are doing is trying to make you aware that from what has been proposed, it is little different to ideas that have been proposed before and those have crashed and burned.
Point 2: If a plan has a flaw, no matter how much 'energy' you throw at it, it'll still have that flaw.
Point 3: The 'common universe' idea is not expressed as an exclusive concept that you opt into from what I can make out from the OP's idea. This is not the same as the coalition idea, or the IC teams idea. The OP wants this to encompass all roleplayers not just those interested in it. Phrases such as "RP community" and "everyone involved in roleplay is involved with anyone else in roleplay, universally" kinda give that impression.
I posted a hell of a lot of adivce which has all been deleted, the main thrust of which was that the RP community on CoX is made up of lots of smaller groups that all want different things from RP. Trying to unite these (often divergent) views on how to RP and how the world works is like carrying liquid in a sieve. You will not get all roleplayers on this game to work under one framework, trying to do so will only make people irritated.
I'm not against people starting up their own groups for varied RP, I'm all for it, there is no 'right' way to RP. You can have your coalition groups and team working in a common framework of how you see the game world working, carve your own niche in the panorama of CoX RP, but don't be surprised if other people don't share your view.
Variety is the spice of life, CoX RP is better off because of the variety. Let's not strangle it with attempts at uniformity. -
Is that why all the advice I gave over the course of 2-3 hours yesterday has vanished into thin air?
-
Your post wasn't the one I was talking about. I was actually meaning when the name of the post got changed halfway down page 7 (on a 10 posts per page layout)... Hijacked was the only word that came to mind (probably not the best) because substituted sounded off.
I always think that if you feel the need to change the title of the thread, you should be starting a new one...
I'm not against the coalition idea, I couldn't care less how people choose to play. I just wish people would stop sniping at Aisla and the other so-called GG Veterans for being anti-everything-but-GG, we're not. I for one couldn't give a monkey's how you decide to RP in the game, it's not for me to tell you how to do that.
Secretly I actually want most of you to all go away from GG so we can return it to the pristine state it was before you all turned up. -
First things first, this thread was not about this RP coalition thing. The thread title was hijacked about 75 posts in... As such I am attempting to return the thread title back to its original title - The Nature of Roleplay.
Now, business...
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
This coalition, isn't about free choice, it's about what we always defend GG from being
[/ QUOTE ]
I must disagree with that. Yes certain people MAY have tried to avoid GG from being a clique, the most notable opponent to elitist cliques being Jennybear herself. But it has been one for as long as I can remember. Yes everyone was free to RP there, but not everyone was included by the regulars there. I love GG, always have, it's things like this I hate.
[/ QUOTE ]
You're confusing cliques being at GG with GG being a clique. The former happens, the latter is a falsehood. People form their own tight groups at GG, but anyone can come along and form their own tight group. Because anyone can come to GG, GG itself cannot be a clique, only the intermediate step to one forming.
'The Regulars', 'The Veterans', 'The Old-Timers' they're such a nasty bunch of people aren't they? Always at fault for something.
[ QUOTE ]
All I wanted to get from this "Militia" idea was another venue for roleplay, another source of inspiration that wouldn't dredge up bad memories from the past.
[/ QUOTE ]
This thread isn't, and never was, about The Militia idea.
Whatever happened to Liberty Squadron as a source of inspiration?
Any mention of a secondary venue will always drag up the past. Second venue debates are the dredgers of the great silty river of CoH RP.
[ QUOTE ]
If people want to join up, let them. If they do, it's because they like the concept, not because they're necessarily an anti-social player who wants to ignore the surrounding community.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think anyone is actually able, or trying, to stop you.
I know this will be taken as snippy and possibly flamey, but this is a lot tamer than what I originally considered posting.
I'm fed up with people slamming Aisla when she provides critical feedback, which which more often than not has been asked to be given. Aisla isn't some all-mighty empress that you must obey.
I'm fed up of people slamming the 'GG Regulars' for everything that is perceived as wrong with RP in this game. You don't like how it's done at GG, feel free to start your own thing but don't try to pretend that it's somehow better or more inclusive than GG.
Most of all I'm fed up with endless stupid debates about the 'right' way to RP. GG is one way to do it, but it's not the 'best' and it's not the most 'inclusive', it just works.
And for continued discussion of this Coalition idea, start a new thread rather than continuing on this hijacked thread, ok? -
PB - Peacebringer
WS - Warshade
These are the two Kheldian types available to those that have reached level 50. I know pretty much nothing about them as in 15 months of playing this game I have never got above level 22.
I'm sure someone else can actually give you more info about what they're for... -
For an observers point of view, I think a big problem is you're trying to formalise it too much. Having a rigidly set time, and only playing at that time works fine for pen and paper RP because the players can't operate outside of that time, and time doesn't pass in the game world between those sessions, but in this setting it seems kinda off for a hero to only work two hours a week...
In essence you're creating a supergroup, don't restrict the SG to people who can play on Thursday, just have an overall idea of the theme of the SG, then you can make however many teams with whoever is available whenever you need to make them. Also I wouldn't say that a team must have one of each AT, that's just causing problems for yourself.
Perhaps you could think of the proposed weekly session as being a particular special mission set by the top leaders of the SG? Kinda like the members get up in the morning and find they have a message waiting for them telling them to meet at a certain place at 7pm to receive further details? But outside that they can team up together for municipal missions, and get to know one another better.
Just remember, the more rules and restrictions you place on online RP, the less popular it becomes. -
Q, Ewww.
Leicester's pretty far... Further than York, Leeds or Manchester... -
I was mildly interested in this at first, but as more details have arrived I feel the conditions are far too restrictive for my tastes...

Manchester in August? :-)

Sounds great, let's hammer out details. -
It's a rule at any sort of convention... The smaller the object, the more massive the bag.
I was at a jobs fair at the SECCCC...CC...CCCC...C... Armadillothingy in Glasgow a few years back, one little A5 pamphlet came in something close in size to a black binbag. Thick A4 booklet with all sorts of other crud (coasters, poster, pens, keyring, etc.) came in a bag that was so small it was impossible to get the stuff back into after removal.
