There are at least 26 threads, not posts, but threads about SS/FA. If you dont see any on the first page of the forums, go to page 2 or 3, you will find plenty of build advice. As for DM/WP I can go deep into the forums and not see a single thread about them, nor any posted builds. So good luck!

  2. Ok here is the FM/SD build I have put together, seems rock solid. Having made a shield tank and scrapper before it all comes together rather easy. 46% defense M/Rng/AoE Uncertain on incarnate choice, will most likely be Cardiac.

One issue I see is the Discouraging Words set. You could use those same three slots in Brawl to add another Kinetic Combat set to push yourself over the soft-cap. The to-hit debuff isn't worth enhancing.

Maneuvers is under-slotted. Generally, it is more efficient to slot toggles before relying on set bonuses.

I think aiming for 45% S/L defense has stretched your build too thin. You don't quite have perma-Hasten with the tier 4 Spiritual Alpha, and your main attack chain will have horrible accuracy against +4's when Soul Drain is not affecting you. Soul Drain's recharge without the Spiritual Alpha has about 10 seconds of downtime. The accuracy on Soul Drain against +4s is so low that you could end up missing entirely against small groups or in single-AV fights and leave your attack chain missing a lot.

Siphon Life could be enhanced for healing but you lack the slots.

Procs in your attacks contribute a decent amount of DPS.

I would aim for 32.5% S/L and E/N defenses. That puts you one inspiration away from the soft-cap and gives you more flexibility in making your build. Getting to 45% S/L defense is overrated when it means you sacrifice your DPS, in my opinion.
I am not looking to make a top DPS toon, if that was the case then I wouldnt be choosing either of these pools. I am looking to build a toon that can tank if needed, but also has reasonable damage. I liked my MA/Wp scrap, but the lack of self heal was a gaping hole. Dark Melee fills that hole, and also works well with the addition of to-hit debuffs. I will prob work the numbers to be at 40% S/L defense, and let the debuffs push me the rest of the way.
  4. bumping this in hopes of someone leading me a hand with this build.

    Thanks in advance,
    JV/Val
  5. This will make me sound lazy, but I dread going through the alignment switching. Anything villain side I find to be a PITA. At the moment I have over 20 L50's, with only like 12 being completely IOd and playable. I have plenty to keep me busy til i21.
  6. I appreciate all the response and discussions going in this thread! Pretty well decided that I will delete my Claw/Regen scrapper, wait til i21 and remake him as Claw/WP brute. Pretty sure I am going to try and build a DM/Regen brute too. I have PLed a DM/WP brute, but have yet to enhance her. Think I will leave her as is, and try out the DM/Regen brute once I have it leveled. Hoping I will like Regen more with a little breathing room (HP) then the scrapper is now. My unoriginal Claw/Regen scrappers was created in the hay-day of pre-nerfs, he doesnt play anything like I want him to.

Awesome, thanks for the response. First time I read that, I missed the "not" in the "not by archetype" which totally threw me off.
  8. On a side note, in a different thread someone mentioned that once i21 comes out you will be able to make a brute on hero side without having to change alignment. Does anyone know if this is true? I have looked over any i21 notes I can find, havent seen this listed any where.

    Thanks,

End result? Brute claws was better by a bit than scrapper claws.

Then fury got smacked with the nerf bat. Now? Brute still wins but not by nearly as much.

On the WP side, I'd say brute wins for no other reason by the higher base HP.
    Thanks Bill!
Just the sort of info I was hoping to get. Couldnt ask for a more informed source to help me! Guess I will go Brute.
  10. I have an OLD (issue-2) L50 claws/regen scrapper. I am very tempted to delete him and remake him as Claws/WP, but I am not sure if Brute or Scrapper would be better. I would guess Brute for Fury + Larger health pool, which is the way I am leaning atm. Some people still love regen, but when it comes to my melee toons I like set-it-and-forget-it. I play alot of support toons where I am healing/buffing/debuffing alot, so I like my melee toons to be alot more brainless if you can understand what I mean.

Would love to hear some opinions, or pros/cons when it comes to this.

    Thanks in advance,

  11. I have been wanting Thermal to be ported to defenders for a long time now. Will be making a new defender the second this goes live, cant wait!

Someone stated something about thermal shields being AoE, when and where was that mentioned? I have a Demon/Thermal/Heat MM, there shields arent AoE, least not atm.
  12. Here is the build I have come up with after some tweeking. Was able to reach 43% S/L Def, and 53% resist. Not sure if I have gimped too many of my attacks though. Would like some input. Thanks, JV/Val.

  13. ET thanks alot for the response and build post, looking it over now, liking what I am seeing.
  14. I have been combing these forums for several days trying to find builds for 2 different toons, but luck has not been with me. I need builds for a DM/WP and FM/SD brutes. I know these builds dont seem to hard to come up with on my own, but cant seem to get the numbers right. I will explain..

I made a MA/WP scrapper some months back, and was able to get all my numbers together with greta ease, good regen (719% w/ 1 target), 54% resist, 46% S/L def, 36% E/N/F/C, 26% Psi def (no purples). But I cant seem to get near those numbers on this DM/WP. I have scrapped the build several times with no better luck with the next build attempt.

I have several shield toons, all of which have met the basic numbers need but would like to see other peoples builds when it comes to a shield brute, esp mixed with fire melee.

    Thanks in advance,
    JV/Val

I have tried to put a build together on Mids, but I cant seem to get the same results that I got when I made my MA/WP scrapper. Seem to be straining to get S/L def to softcap, regen is alot lower, recovery is lower, aswell as damage numbers. Though money isnt an issue, but not planning on any purples, considering this is alt number 22.

(Technically, the Super Speed doesn't really fit either, but I like being able to get around) Fortunately, most of them already have Stamina, and I don't intend to respec any time soon anyway. One or two had Hurdle planned (for the same reason as my Tanker) which might cause problems, but I can probably adapt.

I guess I'm going to have to rush my Praetorians to level 20 and pick up Stamina before i19, in case the new pools don't suit them.

(As an aside, none of my characters has more than the initial slot in any fitness powers, so that means I would have absolutely no slots spare for any other power I might decide to take)
Worse case, you take powers, and never turn them on. Never put the icons in your tray, and pretend you never took them.

For the life of me, I cant see how people feel this is a bad change, or a nerf. Try as I may, it just never seems like there is a loss occuring here. Looking over my toons, my main (fire/fire tank) will regain SJ, I can take acrobatics again for KB protection (which frees up like 3 slots for me) and will gain either Fire sword or Incinerate (havent decided which yet). My Shield/Fire tank gains fire sword, grant cover (for yet another Gamblers!!!) and will prob grab SJ for better travel. My 2 ill/rads will grab single slotted EMP for kicks vrs bots, and single slot Stealth and grant invis for 2 more gambler slotting. I mean the list goes on, nearly every toon of mine is improving attack chains, and or improving there recharge. Then factor in the incarnate stuff, it gets better and better!

Regardless, it doesn't make the case for suddenly needing more slots. No character in this game is going to become less powerful because fitness is being made inherent. There is no nerf to correct with a balance move of any sort. We are all being given the ability to choose an extra power pool that were aren't able to at the moment.

Just because someone doesn't like that builds are going to be more slot starved than they are now means nothing.
I couldnt agree more! Moving fitness to inherent is a buff, plain and simple. I have over 10 50's, everyone of them will be better after this change.

I cant see the devs giving us more slots, and in many ways I hope they dont, you might ask why I say this. I know with IOs, Incarnate system, and all the "packs" you can pickup, toons are getting to be more and more powerful, some bypassing where they were prior to ED. If it continues this way, they will have to make another round of global nerfs, I dont want to see that happen again! ED drove me from the game, thanks to the Devs listening to the customers finally, they made changes to put those dark days behind us. I am really enjoying the game again, GR couldnt of been any better and was worth every penny. NO, I am not a fanboi, but I have no problem patting the backs of people that do things right, and right now, that thanks goes to Castle and his team.

Your resistance numbers aren't going to cap out without One with the Shield which is only up about 1/3 of the time.

Shield/Fire is a nice combo... I've been leveling one lately. From the mid-30's on the damage output is actually around the low end of Scrappers. At 45 it kills about as fast as my 50 BS/Regen scrapper although it's a good bit shy of my BS/Shield.

My SD/Fire tanker was also really cheap to IO; I don't need to worry about expensive set bonuses for durability. Gift of the Ancients in the shields solves my endurance woes, Multi Strike in my AOE's gets the extra defense I needed and that lone Steadfast 3% def IO gets a bit of cushion. I think I've about 40 million in the entire build. Yeah, I can make a more expensive build and go for recharge and other bonuses... I may end up doing that eventually. For now it's very effective and it didn't cost a fortune.
    Awesome, thanks.

I know people are busy with GR stuff, but one has any Shield/Fire builds laying around they feel like posting? Or are they top secret?

Ok looking to replace my invul/fire farmer, want more punch then he was providing. So looking for some build suggestions, biggest desire is to be at or close to S/L and ranged Def capped. Been looking over the scrapper forums since I couldnt find any builds listed here (search feature is awful here). Would love to stay below 500 million, I have ALOT of key recipes saved up. I could copy a scrapper build, but I thought tanker primes are still stronger then scrapper Secondarys, or has that changed? Just dont want to take a softcapped scrapper build, and be leap and bounds past cap being a tanker.

    Thanks in advance!
