I started in I0, well before globals. When I returned, my global was the first character I logged into (which I then changed), not my first character.

Link only because there's one in every crowd.
Not an action screenshot but this made me laugh...

Out of the ones I linked, I'm preeeeettttyyyy sure that Neutron Blast was the first. I'm not sure if he was my absolute first, though.

They're all abandoned character concepts (Mother Superior was roughly recycled into an active character, Homily) but here's some character pics I put up in April 2005. No new modern costumes for them but I thought you might enjoy seeing my early attempts at costume creation. I don't think a single one of them ever made it past Hollows/Kings Row
-
Oh, wow... that's really cool and thank you very much.
I don't know what to say about references except that I use the usual "screen shots from costume creator" method (couple angles for body, head, weapons), adjust them for brightness/contrast and then included a screen grab from one of the CoH comics (I had a Freedom Phalanx character in there) as the reference for that and a crudely drawn Windows Paint picture of what I wanted. I just find that helps along with describing it.
Anyway, it's been a long time since I could afford to drop anything on art and even then never on the "big" stuff so this is a definite treat. Thank you again. -
Quote:Without hard numbers, that's pretty meaningless. I'm just making up numbers here but let's say my profits are one million dollars a month. Then they drop to a thousand dollars a month. Then I find a way to triple my profits... now I have three thousand dollars a month! Success?Back to the original topic of free-to-play, it seems that they're doing pretty good with it over at Turbine, what with LotRO's profits tripling since the move to F2P...
Well, certainly more successful than going bankrupt but a whole lot less successful than I set out to be. Without real numbers, you don't know where "We've tripled our profits" sits on the spectrum between "we've just stopped the hemorrhaging, are eking out a slim profit and won't have to shut down the servers" and "OMG this is so much more money than we ever dreamed of seeing". -
Stealth purging seems like the absolute worst option. So you're combining the "risk" of people returning after three years and ragequitting once they find that their beloved "Fyregirl" is now "Fyregirl1" and the impression among the some paying customers that there's nothing good left and NCSoft doesn't care enough to purge and "fix" it?
Why?
If I was to make a guess besides "coincidence" why people are finding names freed up, it would be that people who have returned with Going Rogue and I19 are cleaning house and making new characters, especially getting rid of ones that seem too much work to fix due to old slotting, inherent Fitness, IOs, power changes and all the rest of it. -
Quote:I believe before they purged last time (or the original time), one of the devs remarked that they knew that naming in a superhero genre game was different from naming in a fantasy genre. You can pretty much face-roll your keyboard and get a name in "Elvish" to use in a fantasy game but people in a superhero game are more hung up on getting "Golden Ocelot" or "Atomic Ice". It's just the nature of the genre. All the years of playing MMO's, only -ONE- of them not only would delete your names, but your account as well. FFXI. Playing any other MMO, there was no threat of getting your account deleted. Nor the names that your characters had.
Quote:But here is my question. Just what names are these other players complaining about not getting? It is proof there is millions of names out there for people, but...just what names can they not get getting their knickers in knots?
Saying what names you want in this context is pretty meaningless since you just get a bunch of people saying "you're not creative". I don't have any particular names I'm after (I'm about out of slots anyway unless I start buying more) but I support a purge on general principle because it'll make some active customers happier and I'm more worried about player retention than the slim chance someone's computer broke back in 2007 and they're just getting it fixed now. I will say that many "great names" other people come up with are ones I'd never use and I'm sure some of the names I like are ones they think are stupid. Passing judgment on whether their opinions are valid based on how you feel about them wanting that name is pretty pointless. -
Quote:If you're paying an extra $15 a month just to hold names then you're welcome to hang onto them. Someone who hasn't paid their $15 in years gets less sympathy from me.I keep a second account active for a friend and use it to store names , and I have taken the precaution of leveling all name holder characters to 15 (its really not that hard to do ).
And on my regular account I have quite a few names sitting on characters I never intend to play again but have been leveled to some odd level or another and im just holding onto the character until the perfect powerset or costume/character idea happens .
I only mention this not so much to go "nyah nyah got your names " but to point out I know a large number of active players holding onto names that they likely will not be using anytime soon for one reason or another and likely won't be freeing up .
Everyone can come up with some story about how they were just incapable of playing for years on end. I'm not sure it matters. If you have a paid parking spot and go off into the military, they don't just hold it for you for years for free -- you either pay the rent on it or lose it. If you have a locker with your gym membership and lose your job, they don't say "Save that locker in case one day Joe comes back", you either keep paying your fees or lose it. It sucks and all but, honestly, if NCSoft was to say your names get freed ten seconds after your payments stop rolling in, I wouldn't think they were wrong for it. Maybe a bad business choice from a PR standpoint but not "wrong". -
I'm all for a name purge. I've taken lengthy leaves before and lost names from previous purges. So what? I wasn't contributing to the kitty so let some paying customer use them instead.

Clockwork chest is a nice piece.
My personal vice is Valkyrie 3 shoulders. They're low profile so you can effectively add them to a lot of costumes to add a little heft and visual interest without radically changing the design. "Small" shoulders work as well but they have a tendency to "float" if you don't adjust the sliders. -
Some of mine are in my sig. Here's a couple others:

Quote:You can either type "/screenshotui 1" and take a standard screenshot which will then contain any windows & UI features open. Change the 1 to 0 to turn this off.How do i take a screenshot that carries the bio as well as the image?
-or-
Bring up your bio and, if using Win7 or Vista, use the Windows clipping tool to save an image of the area you select. -
Is Castle playing a rocking air-clarinet solo?

I've got a bunch of characters in the 23-28 range and then my 50's with a wide gulf between them. I need to get at least a couple of the lowbies moving up towards 50.

I might have missed some earlier versions, but I think the models look fine enough. The creator itself though is horribly limited in options, far worse than CoH (or CO) was at launch. Their handling of the color palette is a joke.
-
Quote:It's good through Monday though!CO didn't kill us. And trust me, we really don't have anything to worry about from DCUO.
HOORAY! This thread is now against the rules!!!!!
I don't think DCUO is a bad game but its style doesn't seem to have much overlap with CoH. As said, more of a console game than a MMORPG. And their character creator is laughably limited. -

I was just getting some crazy rubberbanding and lag on Virtue. Was enough to convince me to just log out for now.

Never use it. Its existence doesn't even flicker on my radar.

Quote:Three small purples? The Titan ate my scrapper's lunch but two purples took me over the soft cap (I have higher def to start with, hence me telling you three) and the only thing to harm me were the auto-hit fire patches.I started wondering if we were missing something, or if there was a trick to this, but apparently not.
Whoever counted the Castillo fights as three EBs, they most certainly is not. The first fight, you take him down maybe 25% and he flees. Up top, you take him down to half and he freezes the battles, says his stuff and makes his grand re-entrance at the same health you left him at. At most, he's 1.25 elite bosses. -
