All you will 'need' for your attacks is BS, BU, AS, Impale, Sharks, and a buncha' +recharge.........for the most part.
You will also want a **** ton of money to dump into your build, so you can hang out with the cool kids. :P -
-
Hey B Witched. I have seen many folks do this in zones. I am still not absorbing why one would do this with their build? Why even bother with hyber if you take phase? Personally, I always prefer phase over hyber whenever possible....which is most of the time/always.
Would you or anyone help me understand why someone would pick "somewhat" redundant powers instead of broadening their build? -
Hmmmm....I just canceled my account....again.....which is up on the 6th of January. How is this league shaping up? Jonny played one league and he enjoyed it, very much in part to who was on Jonny's team, as they were extremely entertaining personalities, but the actual league was a blast too. I would consider re-upping for a couple months if a league is certain to come back to freedom. Is there a pre-forecast yet?
TIA -
I go for heals. Heal big, then hide if needed. I can wait for it to recharge while Im in hide. Small heal, when a heal is needed, is like no heal at all. ymmv.
-
Fire/Regen scrapper would prolly work for both. FSC will be up often and perform well for aoe when farming and as we all know, /Regen is unbetable.
Fire/Psi dom is good for farming and "I" find it capable in PvP as well. Far from the best dom choice, but still quite fun to PvP with. ymmv. -
Quote:Stalkers are a terrible starter AT. It will not teach a new play skills that can transfer to any other AT, and what it does teach amounts to bad habits that would get them killed on any other AT. There are easily more bad PvPers playing Stalkers right now than any other AT and it is exactly for the reasons you guys want them to do it.
Probably the most important general skill you can have in PvP is evasion. Playing a Stalker will not teach that skill since evasion on a Stalker requires phase or a tier 9 power and waiting 8 seconds. Hell you don't even have to move more than 10 feet. Try that on any other AT and see how well it works. I don't give a crap about a new players feelings about getting killed. Getting killed is just another aspect of the game and happens to even the best players. They need to get killed since they will never learn how NOT to get killed otherwise. Blasters, Corruptors and even Defenders are all great ATs for that purpose and are all capable of racking up kills while teaching a new player essential survival skills they will never get on a Stalker. Skills that will carry over to other ATs.
Antigonus, sorry I called you dumb. I don't like it when others do that to people and I was wrong for attacking you personally. My apologies, I was rude. I made it personal because I didn't agree with your opinion. Everyone is entitled to have an opinion and express it here. I'll work on it.
That being said, scrappers clearly dominate the bad player market in pvp, not stalkers. Hell 60% of all players are on scrappers whenever I'm in RV, sometimes more. I think scrappers provide players with more false securities and bad habits than any other AT out there. Someday I'll make one.
But.......I guess we will have to agree to disagree about whether a stalker provides the better opportunity for a new player to learn. My philosophy about learning is different than yours and that's ok I spose. Not everyone learns the same way eh?
Either way, I'm of the mindset that an easy experience is a better experience to keep new players coming back. However, if they "really" want to learn, they will learn regardless of their starting AT. I just find that whenever I bring a novice pvp'r into the zones, they are more willing to come back if they didn't die 10-15 times every hour. I'm sure you'll agree, you gotta work pretty hard at it if you want to die that often on a stalker.
While a stalker doesn't provide you with many of the high end pvp skills one will eventually want to acquire, I still think it presents the best opportunity for starter players to acclimate themselves to pvp, its speed, it's extreme spikes, and momentum shifts. I never said it creates great players or even good players. I just said it presents a good "training wheels" AT as their first experience to PvP. -
Quote:At what point did i say "i do not use my AS"? Get back to me on that one....You're an idiot if you think Sharks is a ranged AS. My Stalker can do 800+ damage with AS, which I'm good enough to do pretty much at will. Follow that up with placate+Shark and squishies die. Good luck doing that with just Sharks baddo. I imagine you would be one of those bottom feeder PvPers that only goes after players that are almost dead anyway so Sharks is perfect for your needs since you don't have to worry about follow up attacks.
But I do like playing against Stalkers that just throw fish because it means I don't have to worry about them and can concentrate on the real threats. Any real PvPer here though will tell you that AS is the cornerstone of any good Stalker build. Why would you not use your highest damage attack? Is it too hard for you?
Two hits and squishy's die eh? That's exactly why I wouldn't recommend a complete novice to play a squishy. Stalkers will farm them and leave a sour taste in their mouths, possibly preventing them from ever returning to learn and enjoy pvp.
ALL new players are bottom feeders, Antigonus.
Sharking injured players from afar when they are retreating back to base is PERFECT for newer pvp'ers to start participating with.
It's a great opportunity for them to get a kill and possibly a great drop. Its a great opportunity for them to feel like they accomplished something(although we both know its no big deal, i think we can at least agree on that?), opportunity they can be relatively safe in their efforts, and opportunity to learn to feel the momentum in pvp and get adjusted to the speed of pvp.....without being overwhelmed too often before they can get back to a safe place...IE: Hide.
Once their game speed is better adjusted and they likely feel even more confident from sharks, they will try to use their AS(hopefully). The best part is that they can do this, once again, in relative safety. They can run back and forth, side to side, jumping and hopping all over trying to target that happy footed blaster, all while they are hidden, and again, relatively safe during their futile struggle to fire off their first AS. Eventually they may pull one off. Eventually(hopefully) they will try to follow up with placate+sharks, thus learning to efficiently kill your average squishy's.
I can't think of a better AT to learn on than a stalker......
If you are there to learn, i mean really learn....the stalker is perfect to learn on. You wont find an easier transition from pve to pvp, imo. They are a simple AT to play. Not too much to worry about or focus on. They offer opportunity for easy kills, opportunity to only engage in fights when "you" want to about 90%+ of the time because....its more difficult to start fighting with something you cant see. They offer an easy sanction every 8 seconds or so, via Hide. They can navigate to the action more easily without being ganked otw back to his/her team.
The stalker simply offers the easiest way for a new player to become more acclimated to pvp.
Its a great teacher of mechanics as well. I know when I'm on my stalker I appreciate AT's with status control powers, thus showing me how important they are to a team and to a spike. The status powers make getting off an AS infinitely easier for a stalker....which often leads a PvP'er to thinking it might be fun to hold down some fools for some stalkers. Now that stalker might have a pretty good understanding of his/her role as a control AT when they do roll that squish toon. They will also know how fast one can die if they aren't paying attention. They should also have a better understanding of how to stay alive against a stalker because they (hopefully) paid attention to the squishy's who kept "getting away" from their stalker.....then try to duplicate what those folks did.
Stalkers are an awesome AT to learn PVP on. They are like having training wheels on. They are a great starter AT for the novice player. I cannot speak about any disadvantages that may go along with said player while they are a stalker, but the AT in general is one of the best to start with. It's easy mode and feels like you are "taking a break" most of the time you are playing. Its one of my favorite toons to introduce pvp with. You can relax most of the time and still end up with a ton of kills. Pure win for the newer player. -
Quote:LOL. Your dumb. "oh please don't do x until you're ready", hahaha. If you are relatively new to the game and PvP, please do not make a Stalker until you fully understand PvP. I don't say this to be insulting or critical, but there are just sooooooooo many bad Stalkers in the game that it makes me cringe every time I see somebody with a new forum registration date asking about Stalker builds.
99% of Stalkers in the game right now are just frustrated Blasters. If you are going to make a Stalker, please please please understand your role and your powers and don't just spam ranged attacks from hide because that will only get you laughed at.
Stalkers are FINE learning toons for newer players to learn with, regardless of their experience, IF they "want" to learn. There's no other AT that allows you to sit in as much comfort and "learn" by watching others without much risk of dieing/being farmed. If a new player chooses not to watch and learn, no amount of time/experience will fix that, most cases.
Lemme guess...you think they should roll a scrapper? Like we don't already have enough true-warriors running around now. Or how about a squishy instead.....so they can be farmed mercilessly and no longer want to pvp because of it? Good advice.
You're dumb again. Sharks are nothing to laugh at.....who doesn't want an 80 foot Assassin Strike to learn with? And if using an 80 foot AS gets me laughed at, so be it. I will impale and shark your *** to death and laugh all the way to the market....like I always do on my blasting stalker. You don't NEED to use AS. Wtf do you think blasters do? They blast from range, genius. Stalkers can too if built right. What are some of your toons, I'll log in and show you? Of course I'm sure you'll bring your regen if you do, or some giant bag of HP's, lol.
Your still dumb. I like bad stalkers. They make drops easier to get. 99% of people who say stuff like you did......are dumb, so I've heard.
According to pretty much anyone you ask nowadays, 99% of the pvp player base is bad, dumb, newb, sucks, loser, blah blah blah. Shaddap!
Stop telling people when to play an AT......and being dumb.
God these type of posts are getting old.
To the original poster:
Spines/ or Elec/ are both fine choices. If money is no object for you, /Nin can be very, very good to you. If you are on more of a budget, /WP is a better option, but a very good option regardless of budget....but you will still need "some" sort of a budget. Proc'd attacks are your friend. GL with your new stalker and learning the art of the AS. -
Indeed it is not directly related to PvP. But I don't really go to any other forums.......and the PvP player-base is every bit as knowledgeable as the other micro-groups, in many cases, more knowledgeable. So I pretty much stick to these forums unless I absolutely need to look elsewhere. My apologies for not going to the proper forum section, whichever that may be?
:-( -
Why are so many servers yellow/red now, during prime time hours? Was there a server downgrade? There servers sure don't seem any busier?
(sorry been away since like June) -
If you have something that can PvP, then you have something that can, at the very least.......ticket farm.
Also, you don't need to farm at all. Use the market. There are billions upon billions to be had on the market each month. Billions!
Buy lower than the market rate and sell at the market rate. Simple. -
Have you tried getting any +perception buffs(clear mind or the like?)
-
Indeed.....THIS is EXACTLY why gold farmers are so successful making money in this game. I have NEVER and will NEVER utilize the influence services or PL'ing services that have been spammed to our inboxes and in our broadcast channels.....but i certainly understand how a person could "justify" using one or "concede" to using one.
This type of "ridiculous" grinding, and YES it IS ridiculous....is exactly why I havent played since June of this year. It is exactly why I likely wont be renewing my account this year. It has effectively killed my will to build more alts. The efforts and knowledge of shortcuts needed to outfit a toon properly, for pvp, is simply more effort than reward for me now. I certainly have altitis. I certainly enjoy having this sickness. I love having the disease, relish in its symptoms.....but absolutely despise the medicines that are my fix.
The phat lewt.
Most of my toons, which were once 10 million dollar builds.....(lol?).....are now over 10 BILLION to achieve.
In fact, my altitis was so bad that I've actively deleted lvl 50 toons on freedom for years. I have deleted no less than 15 lvl 50 toons and COUNTLESS toons lvl 30-40'ish.
Toons under 30 you say? PFT, CHILD PLEASE! They get deleted on a whim.....
But now, the grinding and acquisition of the proper items for my pvp builds just takes up too much time where im not playing, but rather mindlessly(and bitterly i might add) grinding away towards my next shiny new piece.
I don't enjoy the PvE very much any more. I've been playing for over 5 years and I've pretty much worn down on that front.(THANK GOODNESS for PL'ing) The stories no longer distract me from the mechanical grind of PvE and I simply do not enjoy killing the mindless anymore. Very few things in this game give me a sense of accomplishment and excitement like PVP does. PvP has kept me here for at least 2 years longer than I'd have stayed without it being in this game. It's too bad so many people get butt-hurt about their toons being pwned and shy away from PvP. It's a LOT of fun if you don't care about your toon dieing now and again. It is simply part of the experience. Every hero/villain takes a beating once in a while, check any cartoon, comic, or movie. Seems many can't get past this aspect. Thats too bad...
Anyways....the drop rates are embarrassingly scarce and actually create a wider gap between your average players ability to compete with those of us who have the money to "generally" buy what we cant earn or arent willing to earn. I know I almost always have enough money on hand to buy any ONE toons gear, for the most part. But keeping my bank account that way is too much effort in the grind department. I mean lets be real here, paying for one or two shiny's has the ability to empty your entire bank account on a toon. ONE or TWO items! 2 freaking billion for an enhancement or two. Its laughable.
I mean lets be honest here....you'd quit life too if that were the case. In fact, during the great depression, many folks did quit life. This games lewt/money/drop system has become one, big, great depression, lol.
Why? With so many combos available, you could almost never satiate your alt-craving ways. Its nearly impossible. There is an infinite number of power combos. You could create one new alt per week and still not have tried them all in like 10 dam years.(guessing, because i was too lazy to do the math)
So why make it so difficult to enjoy the fruits of the labor that was creating this game and its choices? Why? makes no sense to me. -
So with this becoming inherent, does this make the already numerically appealing fotm's "more appealing"......bring sub-par toons closer to god, do absolutely nothing to close or widen any gaps, or does it do all of the above.........none of the above?
I realize it's somewhat speculative at this point, but curious about others thoughts on this. I've been away since June and recently returned to play a bit(yesterday). -
You can't tell me anyone actually believed, even for a split second, either of them would have ever deleted their toons.....including them.
lol "loser deletes their toon". awesome rage spike. -

Quote:That's not what has been said. What "has" been said is that the Devs have already weighed in on the issue and have stated this is completely acceptable behavior in PvP.So your saying you can not defend yourself or escape a drone.
To clarify:
Using tp foe in this manner is NOT an exploit, that's per our Devs(no matter how much want it to be an exploit or disagree with the philosophy behind allowing this. See below for possibile reasons devs are standing behind such a philosophy).
Quote:Oh but it is a big one and you helped me prove that. What do you have to lose by having this changed?
GLHF, let us know how it goes for you and dont let it get to you. Work around it. -
I enjoy my spines/nin stalker enough that if i was forced to choose 1 toon, i guess that would be it, for redside.
Blueside would be my fire/dev blaster. I have a psi/em but prefer the fire/dev. I have a fire/regen scrap camped at 39 and I used to have high hopes for it before i stopped leveling it....so fire/dev it is. -
Gaussian's proc seems like a waste in a toggle power. Hard to make sure you actually get to utilize its benefits when it does finally fire....unless you are constantly attacking, which in most environments is nearly impossible to do.

Quote:Actually, its not. It's people like you. The ones that feel the self entitled need to point out when "they think" others are being useless and verbally attack them for "trying" to contribute something that's at least constructive, thereby making there own drivel useless and troll. While this idea was not a partial and/or complete game fix/improvement in any way, it was at least using energy in a positive way, whereas your energy is pure troll...and a waste of all our time. What did you contribute here? You score 0 cool kid E-points. Back to the bridge with you....Biggest problem with this game is people conjuring up some idea that they have anything useful to contribute.
Attacking people to simply make them feel bad for "trying" to help is about as D-bag as you get. At least -Hot told him "why" his idea was fail. He also did this without calling the "person" fail. Just the "idea" the op posted was shot down by -Hot, and done so without telling the person they are useless.
The only useless contribution was yours. Hell even my less than miniscule contribution is at least an effort to get rid of trolls such as yourself.
I should have gotten a coffee first this morning instead of reading......
