Just for fun I went around to several servers last night during "prime time"; Freedom, Triumph, Virtue and Infinity.
Apex and Tin Mage sat alone while Lady Grey and Imperious had plenty of company with people lined up to do their TFs.
I think that speaks volumes on what the average player thinks about Apex and Tin Mage, as opposed to the vocal minority of Muchkin power gamers on these forums who've propped up these two disasters.
May the i19 TFs and the devs "new development direction" be swiftly ignored, fall into obscurity and forgotten like the Shard TFs and other wastes of development resources.

Quote:Frankly, we don't need more jack of all, master of none sets. There's too many of those now for SS to stand out and none of those has a crash penalty. SS shouldn't have a power with a crash that ONLY brings the set up to par with the other sets that don't have such penalties. If we're to suffer a crash and any kind of penalty for Rage, it should put SS's damage above the sets that don't have those.Do people a favor. Give "the best" a rest.
Trying to balance against an upper-end outlier is a poor choice.
SS is a nice "plethora" set.
Quote:ANd you even get a decent ranged attack on top of that.
Quote:As to swapping FS to KB. There's only one answer fitting enough for this.
HELL *BLEEP!* NO!
I'm playing a tank. Not a blaster. Not a scrapper. Not a controller. Not a *INSERT AT HERE*.
I *WANT* those guys RIGHT *BLEEP!* THERE!
I *WANT* them flopping around like landed fish.
I *WANT* them TAKING damage and unable to DO damage while WITHOUT having to chase them all over the damn place.
I *WANT* them adding to my armors on an Inv/SS tank while taking damage and unable to do damage.
I *WANT* them neutralized so they can't stand up and decide to aggro on the nearest teammate.
Quote:Please stop fiddling with things that are NOT broken.

I've never thought the crash was a fair trade off.
Rage merely brings SS up to the level of sets that don't have Rage, yet it forces a penalty and without Rage, SS is pitiful. I don't think that's fair, do you? At the end of the day, SS is not the best ST damage set (something like fourth now IIRC), nor is it one of the best AoE sets. It's also a commonly resisted damage type, so that's another knock against it.
I wouldn't mind SS getting some changes, depending on what they were.
-As an experiment, I'd like to see what would happen if the damage buff Rage gave was changed instead to additional bonus damage like Fiery Embrace.
-Seeing what would happen if Hand Clap was changed to Knock Down and Foot Stomp to Knock Back.
-Hurl getting a damage boost.
-Jab having the Disorient removed in favor of a damage increase.
I don't expect any of these changes to happen, ever, but I wouldn't mind testing them.

Quote:Near the end of the book's run there was a big editorial changeover. In short, new bosses came in, axed the books of the writers and artists they didn't like or had a grudge against and brought in new blood, often their friends, to 'retool' most of the books they didn't cancel.So... I just finished reading all of Young Justice, avoiding my reading of early Superman for a bit...
And I'm sorta upset... the events all happened in cannon, but all the characters were pretty much just forgotten after the end of the series...and the series had pretty much no impact on the rest of the universe...
In Young Justice's case, they didn't like Peter David. But they couldn't help but notice the book was doing OK, and it had helped sell them on the idea that a book about teen heroes could make money. Before that, IIRC the Titans book had flopped badly and they had written off teen heroes as being out of fashion.
Then they were approached by Kid's WB about doing a show about young heroes. The WB had wanted the Justice League series to feature some sidekicks, but it went in another direction. Together DC and Kids WB started work on a Teen Titans series and of course DC wanted to relaunch the Teen Titans book to cash in on their end. The decision was made to kill Young Justice to free up the characters so they could go over to Teen Titans since most of the original titans grew up and are no longer teens.
The sad part was, they used the comic bible written for Young Justice as source material for the Titans cartoon. They borrowed heavily from Young Justice's light tone and characterization; the Robin/Impulse/Superboy dynamic that had worked so well in Young Justice became default personalities for Robin, Beast Boy and Cyborg respectively, with Starfire standing in for the naive Secret. Which is partially why their personalities in the cartoon don't really mach up with the comics.
In the end, like you said, the editors didn't really respect any of the continuity or character development after Young Justice was canceled. By the time Graduation Day happened and the new Titans book launched, Geoff Johns had retconned the characters to suit his tastes anyways. In many ways, those characters ended when the YJ book ended.
Quote:Secret, Greta Hayes, was forgotten even though she too has a great little possible continuation to her story since Darkseid apparently removed her powers, but he could only remove the "Evil" aspect of the power and not the blessing by the light god so she should have other powers or something.

Quote:Uh, we have a way of knowing because the devs told us. They announced on Massively and at a gathering (I forget which) that an i20 closed beta would be happening before i19. IIRC the devs even told a number of people in the i19 beta test channel that i20 testing was going on concurrently. I wouldn't be surprised if i20 testing was still going on with those testers because there's more that a few forum notables who went dark around when the i20 beta was supposed to have started and are still quieter than usual. We have no way of knowing if that was indeed what was happening. Only the developers or players under a signed NDA know for sure though.
I highly doubt it as the developers would likely have been far too busy to work on and test both Issue 19 and Issue 20 stuff at the same time.
It's no secret a couple of i20 features (notably the new loading screens and some kind of queuing system) bled in and then out of the i19 beta by mistake. It's also no secret there's a new raid coming for the Incarnate content (the BAF compound) which is likely what these testers were testing, among other things.

I'm not entirely surprised considering you hinted as much in PMs not too long ago.
I may not agree with all your design sensibilities but I respect the diplomacy you showed at times and your dedication under fire. There were instances you listened to what I had to say when you didn't really have to.
I wish you nothing but the best wherever the road takes you.

Quote:I'll say this again: All of these "new" fights/AV/EBs/what have you, be it Trapdoor, Battle Maiden, Boobcat, they're still bags of HP and damage. They're still bloated up to being ridiculously tougher and harder hitting than they should be, but the devs force us to jump through a gimmick hoop on top of that for nothing. They are no less a time sink and they do not even reciprocate in increased rewards proportional to the increased effort required.Yeah, god forbid the devs try something new with a boss...nah, much better they stick with the bag o' hps
If it was an either-or proposition, that would be another story; brute force it and face a typical drawn out moderate-hard EB fight OR find a sneaky trick like dropping the roof on top of him or flooding the chamber with lava. That would actually be kind of cool.
But no, that's not what this is. This guy is roughly a typical EB in terms of power (when there are players, ATs and combos who that is already a tall order for) with the added hassle of the bifurcation schtick. I'm not down with that at all.

Quote:That sometimes happens if you jump the gun before the update completes. It's basically downloading the whole game again from a certain previous date. Cancel it and wait until it says the severs are UP on the status page.like a 3 gig download...idk if its just a winterlord thing..hoping they fix the hami problems and the tin mage tf problems too in there.
with their limited time they work during the holidays i think it would be really a bad call to let this continue throughout the holidays

The sever status page says all servers are down. I'll take a guess and say they took them down to push a hotfix for the Winter Lord's map.

If you didn't realize you got roasted, let me spell it out for you:

And I plan to keep beating it until the Equine Rapture and beyond if that's what it takes.
Quote:I mean, Christ, I haven't even been active on the forums for two years yet and I'm already sick of hearing this.
Quote:And yes, I DO have a tank myself. Shocking thing is that the only thing I dislike about her is that I wish BAB had managed to figure out how to alter Granite so that Stone Armor was completely customizable.
Quote:Perhaps if the developers had used that logic
Quote:The only problem is, 'Decoy' doesn't sound very heroic.

*ahem*
I doubt any devs will even read this thread. In fact, in light of the holidays, I'd be surprised if there's even many in the office this week, or last week for that matter. I'm even willing to bet they've been largely coasting since getting back from Thanksgiving.
That being said, I have to laugh at all of this.
I laugh at the designers who got all butthurt that people used long existing tools and techniques to trivialize an encounter in a one-time arc that is...well trivial.
I laugh at anyone who complains about this change, but defended how the devs crap all over melee ATs in the Apex finale and the new Winter Event.
I laugh at the munchkins telling everyone else to L2P. They might not get the joke now, but when they're buying server transfers in a couple months they may.
I also laugh at the devs as a group, because I've seen what comes from using munchkins as the balance point and catering to their whims.
Lastly, there's Positron. After seeing what his idea of "epic" endgame and giving 'moar power' to players involves: Triple digit faceplants, legions of purple mooks, more demonic spiders and old NPCs elevated up even further above player characters.
Indeed, that is the greatest joke here of all. Too bad I'm not laughing at it.

Quote:They're trying to get the rumored new raid at the BAF just right so it optimally craps on our characters as much as possible, especially Tankers.This. Supposedly I20 has been in an NDA-signed closed beta since September. Must be a big one. The last time they were this tight about beta testing secrecy, it was for the AE system.

Quote:I think around issue 15 or 16 they extended the level range of the enemy group so that stuff other that the rock guys can show up at 50. But there aren't actually any missions or zones using them aside from a couple hero Tip missions or player-made AE missions.I just wish DE didn't become a group of nothing but Boulders past level 40 (at least they do for villains. Haven't fought them heroside for years.) That gets old.
. -
1. Minions of Igneous
It's a shame they're only used in a low level zone nobody goes to anymore. I hold out hope they'll make a return some day and we get to see some of their advanced forms to menace our 50's.
I've always liked the whole underground civilization shtick. The idea that these guys could start suddenly pouring out from a fissure that erupts down town with no warning. Plus the Magmite Lord bosses look cool.
2. Arachnoids
These guys are fearsome and creepy looking. Sadly, they disappear by 50 and blue-siders don't ever really get to battle them (aside from Warburg, bleh!).
Considering their background, I have to wonder if they'll make a showing in the Incarnate content.
3. Devouring Earth
They're large, monstrous and usually a lot of fun to fight. I like they're both an extremely varied looking group, yet are also instantly recognizable. In my opinion, the Devoured Bosses are some of the coolest looking enemies in the game. My one grip is that aside from Monsters and Hami raids, they don't feature a lot after 45.
I'd love to see some more 'evolved' forms of the Devoured feature in Incarnate content. The one-off character Pyriss teases at their devastating potential; that meta humans that become 'devoured' retain their super powers. To me, that is an extremely frightening thought.
. -
It patched to the 2000.XXXX code branch which (presumably) means it's now running i20.
So I'd say no, it's no longer open to everyone for the next while.

Quote:As a dedicated Tanker player, I consider these TFs to be the $%^&ing Antichrist.J_B: I can see where a dedicated Tanker player, who pretty much has contractual invincibility in most ordinary content (that is, you trade away some offense for sufficient extra mitigation that you practically never die), would be upset by having victory through statistics taken away as an option.
I've always maintained that the devs have rendered the Tanker's benefit for the trade-off they make of offense for increased defense to be trivial. Well build Scrappers don't die a lot in most regular content, but they get much more damage.
These TFs demonstrate exactly what I've railed against. The sword bombs don't care if you're a Scrapper or a Tanker, they mostly negate any survivability difference. Both ATs get slaughtered. The same thing extends to the enemies with the massive stacking debuffs. I'm rendered just as squishy, yet, my damage remains as inferior as ever. The devs strip me of my armor, but punish me for having that armor anyways.
To Hell with that.
Quote:I don't think that these encounters leave Tankers without a role, nor do they leave them without adequate tools for that role.
Quote:But if one is offended by the idea that a Tanker should focus on controlling aggro as part of a team strategy...
Quote:There's the whole rest of the game, though
. -
Quote:Wait until the Interface Incarnate slot arrives. Your attacks having -regen or -resistance debuffs would help considerably, as would being level shifted. Was just wondering if there was a certain tank build that would have the capability of soloing an AV, and if there is, what powersets would it have to take. Also would the build have to sacrifice survivability to solo an AV?

Quote:I think it's the orbital bombardment that's the reason to take evasive action, not Battle Maiden herself
This obession with not "running" and being "manly" is like a parody of a Tank
You know how we as Incarnates should deal with being shot at from orbit?
This:

Heaven forbid we're allowed to be proactive against these attacks and stop them. Nope, we have to react and run around like idiots dodging them.

If thousands of deluded people will gulp down sewage, I'm not surprised there's people on these forums who lap up these foul TFs.

Quote:On the Apex finale we do run, a lot. We're so pathetic compared to Battle Miaden that we have to run and kite like cowards and gang up on her with seven others.I dunno, that situation sounds pretty damn epic to me. A small group of heroes, outmatched and outgunned by forces from outside their world, standing up and saying "No, I will not run
Quote:I'd rather die on my feet

Lets compare Battle Maiden with our characters.
When Battle Maiden arrives from Praetoria, she streaks down from low Earth orbit, smashing into Steel Canyon like a meteor causing massive destruction.
She proceeds to dispatch all of the heroes and defense forces in the area, after all, Steel Canyon is only a level 20 zone at max. She does this solo for the most part (I consider her Warriors being part of her Lore Incarnate slot, pets if you will).
It takes eight proto-Incarnates to bring her down, yet her attacks can and will devastate any of them.
When we arrive in Praetoria, we crawl out of the sewer. We cause zero damage; Neuron's plaza remains pristine on the mission map as if we have no impact or signigance at all.
We proceed to struggle against nameless nobody enemies who are automagically level 54, in Neutropolis, a level 20 max zone.
With the help of seven allies, we only face two heroes, and their powers are superior to ours in every way. Compared to how we fared against BM's attacks, they laugh off ours. It takes one lazy catgirl to bring down any of us and the only reason we win is by it being 8 on 1 (or 4 on 1 depending) like cowards.
Who comes across as more epic and powerful in these two examples? NOT US in my opinion. I don't feel more powerful. I don't feel like I'm "on the way to being seen as a peer to the NPCs." I feel like I've been reduced in power, because before I could at least stand up to any of them. Now I have to run away like an ant being chased by a magnifying glass, kite like a coward and fight legions of demonic spiders because of a sadistic GM.

Quote:Striving to overcome things is great. As long as what those things are is suitable to the challenge required. The entire seven member Justice League striving to overcome the Penguin is a little pathetic on the League's part.1. There is now something to strive to defeat, that cannot be walked over the first time you try it. Getting spanked and then getting revenge is fun, IMO.
We've fought Battle Maiden, Bobcat and Neuron before. We've fought Clockwork before. Hell, they've been soloed before. Them automagically becoming four levels higher than us and in many ways more powerful than the two most powerful guys on primal Earth, for incredibly dubious reasons, isn't cool.
I've taken multiple direct hits from Lord Recluse, a demigod, when he was hooked up to a freaking god machine, but Boobcat's claws two shot me because she got upset?
BULL.
Quote:2. This content forces some level of teamwork. That's right, TEAMwork. I mostly solo because I generally hate PUGs, but I love content that forces a team to work together to beat.
None of that feels like a super hero battle from comics and animation to me. It feels like really artificial and contrived mechanics trying to ape WoW and other MMOs and I don't like them one bit.
Quote:Personally, I cannot stand to see people cry out to change things in this game rather than finding ways to overcome the challenge.
Go to hell, Tin Mage and Apex. You and all you represent.
Quote:While I am also aware that there are people that cannot team for a variety of reasons, that fact does not preclude there being team oriented content that they might never see.
Quote:It is, after all, City of Heroes, NOT City of SUPER Heroes.

Faceplanting more means you are more powerful.
At least the devs who designed these TFs seem to think so.
