Quote:It's less than that actually.COH is a 32-bit Windows program, and as such, it *can't* use more than 2GB. Memory addresses are stored as 32-bit numbers, which means 4GB is a hard limit (because 2 to the 32 = 4.2 billion) and Windows splits that in 2GB for application usage, and 2GB for Windows itself. That means each 32-bit application gets its own 2GB of addresses, and shares the other 2GB with Windows stuff, regardless of how much memory is installed.
Note that there are certain versions of 32-bit Windows that can recognize up to 64GB of RAM, using something called Physical Address Extension, but that doesn't change anything on the application side: applications still "see" 4GB of addresses, of which they can use up to 2GB, and the other 2GB is for Windows stuff.
(Edit: wording was too technical, I dumbed it down.) -

CoH doesn't use more than 2 gigs, I thought.

Quote:Thankfully this isn't true, proven during beta and when the servers came up after issue 23 kicked in - just like I said - the first failed, then all 5 after that succeeded, and naturally I had to recruit after every run, and it made no difference - we beat it every time after the first. The problem seems to be if even a few people are new, dont follow direction dont do everything perfect it falls apart quickly and you cant finish.
You have no room for error, no room to carry bads, disconects, new players, etc.
This means its always going to have a high failure rate even when people know what they are doing. -
I used to lead all the time, but lately I've been reluctant, yet I can't explain why.
...having said that, I think I led the league that unlocked Hybrid 2nd on Freedom as soon as issue 23 launched this past week - those of you playing on Freedom the minute the servers came up might remember FlintEastwood running several Magisterium trials in a row. -
Yeah I had no problems, and I used aoes constantly.
-
-
Oh weird, as you saw I had the whole thing cleared with the exception of two groups - yeah, sure, lag, and a split second flash of a mapserver message, but otherwise it ran fine.
-
Is it possible to replay that mission? The whole area is covered with enemies and I had cleared most of it by the time I thought of recording.
-
I personally ran 5 of them in a row when the issue hit, and only the first failed at the end. Once everyone was doing what they were supposed to, it wasn't difficult at all.
The nice part is that you get emp merits every time you run it no matter what. -
-
I concentrated all my beta testing on Hybrid powers, so I didn't catch this part. How does a player get to Night Ward? Is there a certain person that starts the mission arcs? etc.
-
Put power sets on sale like you did with Beam Rifle - and watch the purchases ramp up.

Quote:It was never a question of impressiveness. Let me guess - if someone solos something without any incarnate abilities even slotted, you denounce their feat because they hadn't used SOs, right? It's the same thing nowadays.Actually people with Incarnate builds might need to get over themselves when they finally do things when Incarnated that they could of done before Incarnates.
Brand X can be unimpressed and I agree with Brand X on this one.
....yes it is. Don't argue. It just seems to be taking the forums longer to get used to incarnate abilities as part of a character build than other additions to the game from the past. I don't know why - maybe because we know more incarnate slots are coming far into the future. -
Quote:Yeah...And the selective incarnate abilities allowed need to go as well. Why not lore pets? If you use reactive, alpha, destiny, and judgement thats all okay, but not oh no not a pet. That would be cheating :/
Then again, I dont understand why OP said no Patron pets.
All seems very character biased to me.
also roflmao at rules for the threads and pseudo red naming. -
Quote:Don't have to. It's an incarnate running non-incarnate content. This to me seems like "Hey I soloed the AV with my level 50! The AV was lvl 40!"
I'm not saying it isn't awesome! It is! I said I'd be more impressed. Picking the right Destiny, getting it to Tier 4, will help most builds in the survival department. Lore Pets in the damage.
...and IOs help, etc etc etc - that was my only point. There is this silly cycle over the years of this game where someone will do something cool, then people point and say 'do it the old way without x' and eventually, as time goes on, people get over it and move on to the next thing, and again 'do it the old way without x' - and Incarnate abilities weren't designed to only be used with Incarnate content.
I get what you are saying, and I just wanted to clear up what I was saying. -
Quote:Gotta be honest here - this is something the forums need to get over.Truthfully, Id be more impressed if you didnt require Incarnate abilities.
Need. To.
Incarnate abilities are a part of every build now for any viable character. I've been around since early beta too - I remember huge feats people did with SOs. Everyone got over the whole 'now do it without IOs' 'now do it without purples' etc etc etc -
Most of his concerns/knowledge come right out of the 2000-2005 era it seems - we've all gone through most of his worries, only many years ago, and he needs to catch up.

Do you see what I am saying though - your monitor can only get as bright as how the color white looks to you, like if you hit 'reply' for example on this forum, you should see a white text box you can type in. If you have 5 white text boxes, and it hurts your eyes, you might need to adjust your monitor settings. It isn't the game - rather it is the gamma settings/contrast/brightness etc and even the environment's light level where the monitor sits.
-
Quote:Actually, that IS getting used to it.And no, I do not have to "get used to it". I can simply do without.
EDIT: I don't know why we are even posting replies - it's like he just wants to argue with all of us that keep up with technology and really know what we are talking about.
I actually have a little faith in game companies; whereas if we can help eliminate the ripoff artists (Gamestop and the like) where developers are making more money due to lack of used game sales, that we might see more direct sales for digital versions regularly. -
Yeah, same here, played it a couple months after it went live - and the biggest thing that hurt that game was its very own selling point - getting rid of ATs.
Everyone was making tankmages and never teaming until forced to - I mean, everyone that wasn't logged in as a couple was soloing and building tankmages - grab a shield, grab regen, and go to town.
I have no idea what it is like nowadays, but their other sci-fi MMO is pretty terrible too I hear.
