Constructive criticism about GenCon Indy Meet & Greet:
1. IT WAS WAY TOO SMALL.
2, It was way to loud (I am partially deaf and missed most of the conversations due to it being TOO LOUD.)
3. Arctic has yet to POST the pictures....I know I saw the flash of light and there were no wings on anyone at the time. -
My second year in my current job, a co-worker (now my boss) invited me to a Halloween party at her home.
The next day, three people were in the hospital with MAJOR flu/Stomach ailments, 4 people called in sick.
Me?
Fine and dandy.
GenCon flu didn't hit me at all.
But I attribute it to the many years of replacing my blood content with Alcohol. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I'd love to see Arctic's pix.
[/ QUOTE ]
Considering he got both of us in one...
...okay, that sounded bad.
sorry -
Where are the shots that Arctic got at Alcatraz?
Do I need to wait for some envelope to show up at home because he caught me with my only beer in my hand? -

Check out this link, midways down. It's the Heart pattern that is at issue.

But a heart surrounding your skull would just be soooooo cute!

Anyways, as a badger does anyone know the name of the badges that will be specifically revoked? -
I'm here in my hotel (near the airport), after leaving the M&G.
Ex, Cuppa, Robin, Artic, et.al., we're gracious and congenial hosts and fun was had by all.
Well, at least by me.
Fun times. -

What kind of invastion gives us the dates of their arival?

No..this is not a double post.
Got my confirmation today...
I'll be the tall bald guy in the orange shirt. -
Those of us that got in on the third (or fourth) sign up...has anything changed from the TBA status?
I tried getting in on the original notice, but in the 30 minutes from the announcement on the forums to me actually getting to the original sign up got....no sign up available.
Still planning on being in the area, and have my TBA sign up.
So, if you see someone walking the floor on Saturday the 18th with an Orange Ziggurart shirt....that is me. -

It looks like both events are still open. If you have any questions send me a PM.

Just refreshed, only Austin is open.
WHich means the TBA sould be changing? -
[ QUOTE ]
Yeah! Third (or is it fourth?) time is the charm. See you at Gen Con.

I like that everything is TBA....I want that as a name for a toon. -
I must be either sheltered or not in game when these happen.
Has anyone noticed a patern concerning server/time/day? -
[ QUOTE ]
I never even seen a sign up link for Indy? Was it full that fast?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, guess so.
The Austin one is gone now too. -
I can make the Indy....even if it is a bar somewhere.
Austin is a bit out of the way.
Why does no one come to Chicago? -

But the PlayNC site does not have registration/sign-ups for Indy.
[/ QUOTE ]
Looks like we have hit capacity for the Indy event, I am working on this or we can discuss an alternate "unofficial" greeting place where I can meet all of you.
Stay tuned for further updates. We are currently looking at Alcatraz but there are still some details to be arranged, I am mentioning this so that we (COH) community can start scouting other locations to meet up.

Or maybe because so few males work in my office I attribute everything to the females?

As far as solutions, I like the suggestion that the OP has some rights and responsibility to watch their thread take shape. I guess on the title system, as I was thinking about this on my commute, that the good old Chaotic, Neutral, Lawful system would probably be a decent metric.
Ex.
Event: Friday 7 PM PST Be there! (Lawful)
Silliness Abounds! (Chaotic)
What costume should I get for my Dom? (Neutral)
It's a suggestion that I think for this server could work.
What are your thoughts?

Okay, my brain is not functioning properly.
Does this mean, that when someone starts a thread, they should include the coding L/N/C in the thread subject?
i.e. : Statesman TF [L]
And then, those that post contrary to the thread should be reported?
Basically, policing ourselves? -
[ QUOTE ]
Aerones,
Brings up some good points. Cliques. A very natural occurrence.
In some ways I blame the inflexibility of the forums themselves as I personally would love to create a safe place to play for everyone.
What about creating several (safe) threads and see how they can go about in taking shape and form?
[/ QUOTE ]
This is the nail (the bolded part).
This forum software is very inflexible.
The forums and bbs that I have run and partaken of have had group controls.
Group controls can allow different permissions to be applied to different area of the boards.
It is a management headache, but in my time of being on boards/forums/bbs and managing boards/forums/bbs I find in most cases that having the controls makes the user more responsive to quality feedback.
We had to register for the boards, only after creating an account that accesses CoH/CoV. But once that forum account was made, any and all (except Administrator Only Areas and recent closed Beta sections) areas are open for any and all to post to.
My time on these boards is usually reserved to checking the "Dev Digest" or "Community Digest", responding to threads I started or have replied to (via My Favorites) or when I hear something in game chat that makes me want to respond in the thread.
The "Protector Forum Goers -- Have Fun Here" thread to me is the one where anything said in there is to be taken with a very small grain of salt.
But, since I'm not the only one that follows the "Dev Digest" or "Community Digest" I know others that use this entire board will come to see what Ex Libris has said in here, especially after seeing several "Community Digest" posts pointing here.
This is where the lack of group control will really rear it's head, as has been shown...some people on the boards just like to poke sharp objects into threads.
Is there a quick solution? No...not without destroying the sense of community.
It appears that the solution will be as life is: a learning process.
With no reset button. -
[ QUOTE ]
Is it just the threadjacking that is the greatest problem?
[/ QUOTE ]
Don't think it is the threadjacking (and I do that occasionally).
I'm wondering if it is the cross-posting that occurs which is immediately followed by accusation, degrading chat, or way off topic additions to a thread.
One of the points that is made, several times starting back with CuppaJo:
"Be on topic and be nice."
Yes, we have a small community (but growing) of regular posters. But we also have a large community of lurkers, that when they do come into the forum sometimes get blasted for being a 'lurker'.
Sorry, being old-fashoined here, but really if you are not contributing positively to a discussion...should you be involved?
I use this signature on another forum:
[ QUOTE ]
If we cannot come together and improve our overall experience, then we are not involved and should just stand out of the way. And not reap the benefits of a modern society.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is what I try to do, contribute positively.
That is why I enjoy the "Protector Goers Have Fun Here" thread, because I can spout silliness occasionally.
In game, I hear on several of the global chat channels, and occasionally in local/broadcast/private, how some of the threads can get down-right nasty.
It's not that I hurt easily, but seeing some of these "attacks" keeps me from more activly posting in the forums. -

3. Called another store, and after finally getting transfered to Electronics, asked about the availability of "Good versus Evil Edition" and was told they do not carry religous items.

The Holy Grail was on the shelf today.
So they do carry religous items. -

Visited one store in my area, and called 7 in the Chicago area.
To say that the service via phone and in-person, I can understand why the City of Chicago wanted to ban big-box stores.
[/ QUOTE ]
Being the optimist that I am, I re-visited the one store and dropped in on the store that does not sell "religous items" in electronics.
They had shelves of "*NEW*" PC software...but looking through the tags on the shelves there was nothing for NCSoft/Cryptic.
Asking the stock clerks at both stores to look up the information concerning the GvE edition resulted in two amazing things:
1. At the store where they said to check back after 6:00 PM, when the clerk did the look up, it caused a buffer overflow in the register.
2. At the "religous store", it returned no information for anything relating to NCSoft/Cryptic. No stock on hand, no SKU, nothing.
Point 2 surprised me, as I had seen a CoV DVD box on the shelf. So I thanked the clerk and went back to the shelves. Finding the CoV DVD box, I waited until another clerk was at the computer and asked her to do a price look up of the box I had in my hand.
$19.99
So I asked if there was any other software by this company in their system, and it's availability.
Nothing.
Thanking the clerk, I went and put it back on the shelf, and found a CoH Game Card box.
Again, waiting for a different clerk to be at the computer, I asked the same question about price and if there was anything else by the company on the shelves or due soon.
Nothing.
I figured it out.
Wal Mart is the CoT of the merchandise area.
Items go in, and become possessed by another item and are sold as Nancy Drew Mystery software (which both stores had an over abundance of).
I think the marketing genius at NCSoft that handled this "exclusive" deal with Wal Mart needs to become the rep for a new villain group in CoH.
It would be more popular than the 5th Column. -
Visited one store in my area, and called 7 in the Chicago area.
To say that the service via phone and in-person, I can understand why the City of Chicago wanted to ban big-box stores.
1. In store visit: PC Software area smaller than my desk. Stockboy looked at shelf when I caught up with him and inquired about the 'Edition'. I asked him if he could check is computer listing for stock information. "I don't know how to do that, but we are getting a shipment now which is to be on the shelves by 6:00 PM. You could come back then."
2. Called a Wal-Mart: Phone didn't ring as it cut right into a person on the phone. Called again after they hung up on me. Asked to do a stock lookup for a piece of PC Software and was tranferred to Automotive. 30 minutes later after being shuffled back-and-forth, was finally told that they don't have it and don't receive software shipments on Friday only Tuesday.
3. Called another store, and after finally getting transfered to Electronics, asked about the availability of "Good versus Evil Edition" and was told they do not carry religous items.
4. Called another store......and another......and another......and another.....
Wal Mart Stores are not software vendors, do not have good customer skills and are basically a waste of space.
A cemetary would be a better use of their land. -
Don't make me seperate you two.
Has anyone had the chance to visit out favorite kitty since I dropped by?
I know "Man from AUNTIE" tried to get out there, but I haven't heard anything lately.
Come on people, it is getting close to winter up in the great Northwest, and the kitty needs blankets, water, munchies, Ish's leg, etc. -
