The ONLY way I see "vehicles" working is in a specialized, outdoor mission, with *all* player powers disabled and just some set attacks in it. Not a travel power, but an in-mission temp power, in a mission designed for it.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd accept that. I think that making it a Transform power, a-la Kheldians, would be by far the most sensible solution for a large vehicle like that. However, I'm not so sure I see why it can't work just the same in Safeguard/Mayhem missions and non-instanced maps (zones). Heck, even instanced city zones I'm sure must be flagged for a different tile or terrain type than, say, cave missions.
As far as Longbow fliers indoors -- they do only spawn outside (that I've seen, anyway). But they will do pretty goofy things to follow a target, the same as any other mob. I'm reasonably sure with a little bit of patience, you could, for instance, drag one into the Warburg tunnels from the Longbow ship. (Edit: By the way, I think the spawn 'rules' for Longbow fliers are that they only spawn in places they are specifically placed. If there were spawn rules that could be applied to them, it seems like it would be a matter of only a few days' work to apply those rules to Sky Skiffs.)
And as others have mentioned, there are a variety of smaller vehicles that would require minimal amounts of work -- some of which we may see when the long-awaited 'back item' section expansion is done. -
I tried to leave SF/TF/trial badges out've it, because those are so ripe for other accolades.
Alright, with Rocketman unpopular, there's two replacements I can think of. One is to throw in several Defeat badges for various gangs, which stays in theme (you beat *everbody* down). Skulls, Hellions... Marcone are already used for an Accolade, so they're out, but maybe one more between Brickers, Trolls, Lost, etc. I feel like that kind of weakens the "dragonish" feel, but whatever, have to work with what's there.
The other is to go full-dragon, so to speak, and use Trillionaire... or, well, at least Trendsetter. (The loot! The loot! The loot is on fire!) -

use the search function. vehicle threads pop up once a week at least. read them before making a suggestion.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sharker_Quint, please stop repeating that. You yourself clearly have not. The counter-arguments you're giving have already been brought up in those threads and were addressed (and for many, dismissed) -- and yet we're having to repeat them for your benefit. It's not productive for you to repeat "search!," and hypocritical besides. -
Pretty sweet! It reminds me of the Duplicate Boy-type ATs that get suggested from time to time. Unfortunately, the balancing and structural issues that cripple that suggestion also apply to this one... it would require a lot of time investment to create, and quite possibly be easy for players to abuse even so. Keep in mind that salvage and the like can still be farmed -- a significant increase in demand often yields a significant increase in supply shortly down the road. (Or it would, in a free market, which we come pretty close to in this fictional game. Corporate capitalism sucks.)
Of course, I don't expect to see much done with the coming storm for a couple years at least. So who knows what'll've happened by then, structurally to the game? -
[ QUOTE ]
The thread isn't entirely stuck on just vehicle travel, but other ways to travel as well. Game engines evolve, things change. Complacency with the status quo deters evolution.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thank Eris, somebody who finally gets the point of the Suggestions forum. -
Because riding "in" a vehicle is an entirely different kind of thing than jumping on top of one and riding along with it.
Bill posted his standard reply earlier in the thread. But what's kind of funny is that even in it, he already addresses some of the vehicles that are already in the game. Why's it any more ridiculous for a player to have, say, a Longbow Flier and fly it around to wacky places that it doesn't make a lot of sense to go to than it is for a Longbow to do it? -
[ QUOTE ]
problem is, we can't use vehicles in the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
right. this was a suggestion that would let us do that.
[ QUOTE ]
i see a huge problem with switching powers.
morphing into a vehicle would be a tremendous load and would require more skeleton adjustments then kheldians.
[/ QUOTE ]
What? Why on earth would that be the case? Do you think each frame element is individually stretched out into the new shape or something? I'm just... baffled by why you think this is the case.
[ QUOTE ]
this seems like another attempt to get vehicles included into CoH.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ah... yes. Yes, it is. ...I'm just going to leave this alone, now.
...anyway, all that aside!
I believe it is possible to have the vehicle objects change inclination. Very few things do; even players often do not. But I've seen it happen for some things, so I suspect things that have at least very rudimentary skeletons (enough to tell top surface, bottom surface, left, right, fore and aft, anyway) should be able to.
I don't think this is likely to occur without a significant engine overhaul (like, to the point of being CoH2, even if it isn't released as a new game) because making vehicles believable would require a lot of work. With what we have now, I think the best we can hope for are things like hoverboards and perhaps motorcycles -- they could copy the character's costume onto part of the cycle object, 'cheating' the system a bit. Full-on cars might not be that hard to do graphically, but making them move and interact believably with the world would be a tremendous challenge.
Ooh, and oscillator backpacks. That would be sweet. -

list me 1 superhero genre MMO
[/ QUOTE ]
Seems like kind of a flawed limitation, there. It's kind of like 'proving' restaurants don't offer seafood by asking me to list a single restaurant that serves salmon patĂȘ, but it has to be within a 1-mile radius of my house, or it doesn't count.
Edit: Had form open for a while.
[ QUOTE ]
and i don't care how many times people say it isn't the reason, everyones underlying rationalization is :World of Conan Hammer Warcrafting" has this why can't we.
[/ QUOTE ]
Or what about the MMO NCSoft published that was about cars? Or the other one they published with giant rideable mechs? Heck, even EVE is supposedly coming up with a way to get off your ship, which has the same net effect.
No. There are plenty of games that have had vehicles, not just the big three current fantasy titles. -
Welcome to the forums!
Both have been suggested before -- especially vehicle travel. It's very unlikely due to graphical issues and other constraints on the game engine. However, I do find your particular implementation of it to be hilarious (in a good way). -
[ QUOTE ]
Its not a question of 'difficulty' but that people do not like accolades tied to PvP badges. The complaints are bad enough when it is a simple explore or time in zone. 10 Warburg rocket launches is just not reasonable in a PvP optional game.
[/ QUOTE ]
I dunno, I've pretty much never PvP'd while doing the Rocket. Maybe it's different on very large servers, or for people who mostly play during peak hours.
[ QUOTE ]
As for an alternative - Illusionist would be right up there.
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe. It doesn't really seem to fit the theme, though -- beating up Arachnos as a Villain shows a certain amount of viciousness (as does having/using ten nukes). Beating up Carnies is just, you know, like beating up every other gang out there... even if their particular badge is obnoxiously hard to get. -
Check out SexyJay's Costume Request Thread! It's more for suggestions about particular costume items, even chest decals.
Ideas about allowing custom decals, however, do fit here. And would be awesome. And almost certainly aren't going to happen, except maybe as the 120-month Vet reward. ;p (The badge text could be: "Ten years? You've been playing this game for ten years? ...Okay. We actually don't really care what you do any more. Just don't stain the rugs.") -
Skarmory, I'm not belittling Arcanaville, but that's basically what Castle and the respondents in this thread already said. =P Hers has more variables and a different example, but it's the same substance.
...Of course, if the OPer listens to -her-, then I'm with you 100%. -
[ QUOTE ]
No to rocketman for villains.
It is bad enough that there are time spent and explore badges in the PvP zones used for accolades. I can only imagine the outcry if rocketmand was included.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ever tried to get Fire Chief (without a natural way of dealing Ice damage)?
Can you think of anything equally difficult/time-consuming for Villains?
[ QUOTE ]
I would change Head of the Hydra to Charmer, though. Head of the Hydra can be obtained simply by falling down the pit while Phase Shifted, and anyone can get a Phase Shift power with a quick patrol in Warburg or trip to the market. It's just too easy to get Head of the Hydra and doesn't really reflect the concept of the accolade.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's there as an exploration badge, as is Heart of the Hamidon (and Reborn). It signifies that at least you were there; sometimes just showing up to fight the dragon is enough.
I'd say that the net difficulty, and the cooperation requirements the accolade (essentially) forces, put it on par with other accolades already. Besides, this way it doesn't have any TF/Trial completion badges, leaving them available for other Accolades in the future. -
Requirements: Unleasher, Master of Olympus, Devilfish, Fire Chief, Just Said No to Superadine, Head of the Hydra, Heart of the Hamidon, Seeker of Monsters, and Destined for Valhalla.
Description: Having made a career facing down some of the greatest monsters Paragon City has to offer, you've proven yourself truly a Dragon Slayer.
Benefit: 2 points KB protection, 3% fire resistance.
Villain Equivalent: Draconian
Requirements: Demon Slayer, HellBane, Hammer Down, Watcher on the Knoll, Snake Charmer, Reborn, Spider Smasher, Rocketman.
Description: You have ruthlessly crushed those who defy you, proving to all you are truly Draconian.
(Same effects.) -
IIRC, the issue with the animations had to do with character hands. Doing a spinny whirry thing isn't that hard -- we've got helicoptors and rotor blades all over the place. But making it look convincing with a toon's hands, that's another ball game. Stick game. Stick...ball... game.

[ QUOTE ]
There need to be objective, quantifiable, and measurable standards. Anything less is a recipe for endless chaos, of the sort experienced by those who lived through the debacle that was SWG.
[/ QUOTE ]
And you know what would be a way to stop all crime? If you passed a law against doing illegal things!
That's ridiculous, a form of bureaucratic legalism no better than doublethink. No amount of documentation would have saved SWG any more than the lack of it has doomed any of the dozens of games which didn't have it.
As I said before: I would love to have talks with the developers about their vision behind the powers. But it's impractical.
If you are serious about this suggestion, find another way to go about it... and when you have that, think about who might be better to address it to than the players who read this forum. Since you're trying to promote community, a community rep, perhaps? -
[ QUOTE ]
How you got to a diatribe against my fellow players out of any of that is a mystery to me quite unworth the effort of decoding.
[/ QUOTE ]
I didn't, and I'm not quite sure how you extracted that from the context around it. When I said, "with the other players," I meant, "along with," or "in discussion with."
[ QUOTE ]
And, of course, none of this has anything to do with the original topic, not that I care that much.
[/ QUOTE ]
Focus on the first three sentences of the post, then. -
Depends on whether or not you read and considered what I had to say, or are just being snarky.
-
[ QUOTE ]
My main point is that if they are going to keep trotting the way powers were intended to work out as reasons for changes, it would be nice to document just what they mean.
[/ QUOTE ]
They mean, explicitly, that they want powers to work they way that they want them to work. How that will be one Issue from now is not how it was one Issue prior to now.
What you're asking for is much less reasonable than the tone you're asking for it in. Continuing to ask for it in; you mentioned in your top post that you already suggested this in a thread that rednames have viewed and replied to. I'm glad you have a chance to vent your frustration with the other players, but I want to point out that that's exactly what this forum (and many of the others) exist for -- and what Mod 08 and others sacrifice their own peace of mind for. Players don't make posts primarily to comment on how happy they are to have the game... not only are posts like that usually uninformative and even downright boring, but over time they begin to feel forced or formulaic. (Read SexyJay's Costume Request thread for some examples of that!) Contributing back to the community ourselves is the only way we can really show support for the game.
Do you feel better now? The question is serious. If so, perhaps you should re-evaluate your wishes... and your timelines. -
That was a case of mistaken identity being used to comedic effect, much as they often were in the early text adventures to which Bill refers.
My question is how a Hellion had Influence in the first place, and how someone was able to loot it from a corpse. -
Why would you think they have documents to this effect internally? How big do you think this organization is?
[ QUOTE ]
Whether that would be less work and angst than dealing with the bursts of outrage accompanying nearly every issue you'd have to judge internally.
[/ QUOTE ]
It wouldn't. WoW's patch notes are much better than CoX's. They also typically get announced even further ahead of time than they do here. What this results in is whinging that starts much earlier and lasts much longer.
[ QUOTE ]
If you chose you could involve the playerbase in doing a lot of the work for you, with Q&A discussion threads in the AT forums, perhaps. The forum community has shown itself quite capable of responding favorably to requests to help collate and organize information in the past, and to gain a clear statement from the developers on just what it is they are trying to accomplish with each power I rather suspect they'd jump at the chance to do it again.
[/ QUOTE ]
I personally would love to have pre-announced Q&A sessions with the developers, openly on the forums, once a year or so. But I think the net effect of that would be a bunch of players who each have their own vision of how things should be -- and yes, I myself am among them -- questioning the developer's decisions. For that, we already have this forum. Even if we managed miraculously to get a good, friendly, informative discussion going, the best it could do is temporarily quell the blind, directionless rage that geeks endlessly seek to sate on the Internet. There would be no long-term benefit to this.
Accept that the developers can't address each individual complaint, and that they do address large-scale complaints. If they didn't, you wouldn't even have had the fodder to write this up in the first place. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yeah, that's why these combinations are likely never going to be available. They would be very overpowered, especially a Scrapper with the Rad secondary.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not everything different is a "tankmage." Would giving Scrappers Blaster attack sets make them "tankmages"? What if you replaced the melee attacks in the OP's proposal with Blaster sets?
You'd end up with the Corruptor class almost exactly as it is.
Which is why I don't know if I see this as that great of an idea intrinsically. The buff/debuff sets would have specifically tailored for the class in order for me to see this as viable. Otherwise you might as well just play a Defender with air superiority and jump kick. -
[ QUOTE ]
You clearly can't use that keyboard anymore.
[/ QUOTE ]
Clearly you don't remember a thing about packard bells.
That keyboard was probably unusable before.
