I am just dissapointed because my SG of 5 RL friends and a couple of additions wants a base...not a raidable base just a base.

but to get the function we want we'd need a power room, control room, work room, teleport room, infirmary, and a hall. At 150k a room that's 900k just for rooms. All that prestige just for the ability to rez at your base and teleport to hazard zones.

I like the idea of having general rooms (power, control, infirmary) be cheaper and having raid specifc items and rooms cost more.

That way casual gamers/SGs could get a functioning base reasonably quickly. While big active groups who would want to (and would be able to) do trials and raids would have a higher goal to work at.

My friends and I were very discouraged when we saw how much we had vs. how much we needed to build even the smallest base, and now we have 998 rent due on our entrance portal. Anyone know how to erase your base?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just want to chime in to be one of hopefully many voices heard on this subject. This is our VG's almost exact situation and attitude about the whole base issue. We really like it. We are really trying to make it work, but it is very discouraging. Every time we chat about it, we wonder why the core systems are so expensive.

Essentially we want Zone TP, medibay/rez circle (that returns you to point of death like the hero's does), that thing I heard a rumor about that sells you and purchaces from you inspirations... and really some decorations... oh and the mission computer... we are just now scrimping just enough for the mission computer so we all don't miss the level 20 to 25 SF ...while we are still in our 20s. (a couple of us are going to have to exemp down as is.)
  2. don't know if this has been mentioned. Had a friend of mine jump in with a lvl 17 villain and kill a +1 minion. I hopped in with a lvl 49 hero and popped a +1 minion. Lvl 17 earned 10 prestige my lvl 49 earned 12 prestige. If it is a 20% increase in prestige across the board for lvl 35 and above characters that is at least something. I'm curious how mission endings will scale regarding prestige. Do we still get 250 to 300 prestige at the end of each mish? haven't tested that yet. I did some VERY rough calculations and it seems like a character leveled from 1 to 50 in SG mode would only earn about a million prestige (and I think I'm being kind). By my figures to have a beginers base range of functionality going in a conservative base (Transporters, Control , Power and rooms) you are look at 3 mil prestige... wow... I'm hoping crafting will help produce some placeable essentials but I'm not holding my breath.

I would love to see some real numbers on that, not that the post 40 game is even up and running for vills... somone get to 50 already running SG mode the whole time and get me some numbers already!

Tankers manage aggro better than any other Archetype. They also have the highest combination of hit points and defenses in the game. Their role is to take the brunt of a spawn's aggro just long enough in order for the rest of the team to be able to eliminate the mobs.

Should a skilled Tanker be able to corral EVERY mob? With a lot of skill, it should be possible - but it's certainly not required to be a good Tank. As long as the Tanker can hold onto aggro so that his teammates are facing less than they'd normally face (i.e. 3 minions), then the team has an advantage. Namely, each teammate can quickly eliminate his opposition...and then come to the Tanker's aid at the end.

I just played a Tanker with the following group (actually, at the request of a PM)...

    Inv/Fire tanker (32, SKed to 49)
Level 50 Elec/Elec Blaster (it was his mission, set on Rugged)
Level 32 Peacebringer (SKed to 48 or so).
    Level 48 MA/Inv scrapper
    Level 50 Fire/Kin controller
Level 35 Earth/empathy controller (SKed up to 48)
    Level 49 Energy/energy blaster

We faced the Carnival of Shadows. Typically, I'd start combat by Taunting any Strongmen in the spawn. I knew that I could handle their damage best. I'd usually catch some other minions and lts. I'd end up with a good 1/3 of the spawn focused on me, while the rest of my group disposed of the others. Whenever I saw a teammate enter the red, I'd either Taunt the mobs off them or hit the mobs to get their aggro.

End result? Well, no one was that familiar with their builds. The Controller was defeated by getting too close to another spawn. The Peacebringer carelessly tossed off attacks and ended up aggroing too much. After those two defeats, we settled down and functioned fine.

Admittedly, my own health dropped down to a 1/3 several times. I'd get a little concerned, but usually I had Dull Pain ready.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Your statements about Tanks being best in the game at handling the initial stike and managing aggro better then anyone in the game is accurate but only to a small degree. Yes HP is noticeably better. I would argue that damage mitigation compared to Scrappers using Invul, DA and possibly Regen (Regen to a more limited extent these days) differs only by a small relative margin. I'll use Dark/dark scrapper. I ran some ED numbers while rebuilding my Dark/Dark lvl 49 scrapper and my Invul/SS lvl 50 tanker. (I have the notes around here somewhere with more accurate numbers if you want exact, but this is a little bit of 'ballparking' from memory)
Invul tank can cap S/L damage reduc to 90% or get real close with Tough, TI and Unyielding.
Energy, Elements using passives and Unyielding come in around 30% damage reduc give or take and of course no psi.

Dark Armor S/L using Tough is around 65%, Energy, Elements around 38%+ and Psi and Dark Energy at least 60%. I think Psi will go to scrapper cap of 75%.

Now I realize this doesn't take into account Invincibility giving def or Unstoppable (which is situational at best and frankly if you are using Unstoppable and other lvl 32 tank powers as your justification for saying they are "best at what they do"... well just stoppable please, especially invul because I'm using it in this example) but realize that, using DA as further example, also gains some def and enemy ToHit Debuff from other powers as well which are arguably as good as Invul (Cloak of Fear and such and their stealth power and to nitpick Opressive Gloom can be damage mitigating too).

DA has 1 more core toggle for damage reduc and less HP. This all sounds very balanced but in the end DA scrapper is moving faster through enemies and *nearly* as safely. with a Provoke and/or Death Shroud thrown in, they can help manage aggro.

I guess based on numbers and the experience of playing an Invul tank to 50 and a DA scrapper to 49.. I don't see a compelling reason to take a tank anymore. Even if you did something unpopular like nerf DA to compensate, it would have to be a huge powerset breaking nerf to still make tanks look more desireable and that would honestly be very wrong at this stage.

Man that really sucks. No influence when in SG mode at 35 and it decreases after like 20. I BARELY have enough to keep my enhancements up now and I'm lvl 14. I think I'm going to have to quit the SG until I can bank up a bunch of Influence. I guess I'll see you guys in a SG when I'm about 50.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Remember, you don't have to quit the SG, just not be in Supergroup Mode. It is a toggle button under the UI for Supergroups.

When you hit about 45 you have all the influ you need, normally if you sell correctly, just SG in early levels, and then again in later levels.

If i go back to the Hero side, I plan to pay any 20-40th level people some of my millinos of influ to stay in SG mode as they level. Its probably a much better exchange rate than the laughable conversion the SG contact gives you for Prestige for Influ.

Now we just need mini-events for arresting all the car thieves, purse snatchers and break-in attempts in AP and GC.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Forget the car thieves - what about the drivers in Paragon City? I'm sure you can draw up a huge list of common traffic violations, like Refusing to Yield the Right-of-Way, Hit-and-Run, Failure to Use a Turn Signal...

At least they modelled New England driving accurately... (j/k - sort-of )

I would imagine traffic cops don't have much leverage with citizens when they pull them over.

Cap, the reason people are complaining about the level range for Croatoa is that they want something to fill in the known content gap in the high 30s. A lot of people run out of missions around L39, and have to go through a fair amount of boring grinding to unlock the L40+ content.

The expansion zones were planned out well before that content gap became known, however. It would not be a simple matter to increase the level range for a zone--just bumping the villain levels up isn't enough. Even if they did it, it would require extensive retesting internally. That means a substantial slip in the release schedule, and not just for this issue; at least one future issue, the one which is currently slated to hold a 30-40 or 35-45 zone, would have to be redesigned as well. It's not practical for the dev team to screw up months of work to appease a vocal minority of forumites who have characters in the high 30s. I'd rather wait than get two zones that had quick hacks in them to swap the ranges around.

In short, I understand why people are griping, but I don't expect them to get what they want. Maybe the devs will add some individual missions to existing zones in the 35-40 range to help them out--it's certainly a possibility with new mission types being added.

    [/ QUOTE ]
On this note, does anyone else experience a grind around around 18, trying to get to 20. Since we don't have SOs we can't exactly go hunt 3 level higher baddens in Talos and IP. I was really hoping to see a small 15 to 25 zone in I5. Something with less spotty level 19 bad guy spawns a some missions to get us into our 20s.

Once you hit 20, between original missions and Striga there is plenty to do for a while.

I have more or less given up posting on this forum for a variety of reasons, but I feel the need to say two things:

    1) Issue 5 looks quite interesting.

    2) Some of you whine a lot.

    [/ QUOTE ]

agreed...I think I may have to give up posting here and simply go back to enjoying playing the game.

Can't wait to see all you whiners in the CoV beta!

    [/ QUOTE ]
Before I am chastised for this next comment I want to say that I am guilty of this too...

I find that when posters make sweeping comments about other posters whining, they leave themselves open to be accused of whining as well. In essence they are complaining about the whiners which some would says that is whining about the whiners. The first non-audible related definition of "whine" is "To complain or protest in a childish fashion."

I guess it depends on the interpretation. Is it "childish" to make a sweeping public accusation that 'a number of you are whiners'. That might be nit-picky.

I know I've been guilty of it, but it does make me think about my posting practices. I'm going to try to be a bit more diplomatic if possible.

To chime in about defender/controllers which I assume is the target of the whining comments. I've played primarily tankers and controllers and recently some scrap-i-tude... I have thought to myself, why play defender when controllers have access to most of the powers too. Controllers seem to have more flavor as utility characters to me. I still think a defender has their place. When I team I say play what you enjoy. We'll make it work. If i want blazing fast leveling I would just solo a scrapper, which I do on the side. It is a tough discussion to sort out. There is not solid or right and obvious answer.

after another read, I feel I must point out that the statement in quotes was to imply they are POSSIBLY doing some "bang up" PvE content to solidify themselves with strict PvE players that MAY have recently left in part, due to dissapointmnet in last issue release. The fact that I used the word "more" in the last sentence, implying I have already seen some PvE content, clarifies that I have taken note of their prior PvE content filled issues.

Wow, you can tell I haven't posted in these forums for a while. I forgot that I had to diagram out all my points so as not to have holes poked in them. My apologies, I'll pay more attention next time.

This is what we feared. As people in other topics mentioned, this actually is worse XP than going solo. So the player is penalized XP-wise for splitting from the team. In other words, if you split the team into two teams to complete two tasks, you're actually getting LESS XP than if you created two SEPARATE teams to do the same thing.

    [/ QUOTE ]
YES, you get it. If you split into TWO teams. If you are splitting into TWO teams, then reform into TWO teams.

If you split up, you are not longer a team but since you remain teamed, you run into penalties. When splitting up, SPLIT up and form two teams.

    [/ QUOTE ]

How do you do that in a Task Force hunt mission?

  18. [ QUOTE ]
Well, if you're flying to the store, not helping the team out directly, and getting "free xp", then yeah you're powerleveling... sort of... and shouldn't get any xp trickled down to you. We all shop, so it all works out. You just take a little longer doing so.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Let's set aside shopping down time and people silly enough to keep flight. (I still love you fliers. I have a couple myself)

I have asked people to purchase inspirations during hunts while tanking. I could go myself but the Team doesn't want the 'meat shield' making a 'snack run'. They 'fetcher o' goodness' are doing me a favor and will bring me back resources that will quicken our fights. They will miss out on xp for leaving the area to do something that benefits myself and the team.

Also, I have described a specific scenerio concerning early level Stealth/Recall friend builds in my last post where all on the team are contributing and taking risks but one is deprived of XP.

Again, I know these are very specific, but it happens.

EDIT: apparently I hit submit a little early so had 2 similar copies of this post go up at once. My appologies if you are receiving emails on this and saw my double shot of text craziness.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
Conceptually nothing. These changes have no effect on your personal xp gain. A lagger left behind would drain your experience exactly as much as it does currently on live. Sure, the total team xp is lower, but who cares if the guy who decided shopping was more important doesn't get any xp? You're still getting the same xp as you do on Live. A person sitting in a team not doing anything is ALWAYS a drain on team xp, regardless of whether or not they themselves get any xp by it.

So this has no effect on your experience gain, only on the people who fall behind.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, this hurts flying characters period. Many of them fall behind due to preference in travel power choice. If I play a flier, I am inconvenienced.

As my earlier statement, it does effect me. I WANT to be able to trickle some XP to shoppers. I want them to do the same for me. It is something i prefer to do. I'm not trying to convince you I am right and you are wrong. I am making a point that THIS change is to target PLers however, even in a small way, will effect my teams enjoyment. I enjoy helping a slow flyer get a little XP because they are sticking to concept and not taking Super Speed because they feel they have to keep up. Even if it is small, it is there. I can site you a specific scenerio.

We have a concept group. We are trying to keep our levels together but be efficient in our xp earning. So, we send 1 level 12 guy with stealth and Recall Friend to hoof it across dangerous Hollows to our mission door while the rest of us hunt. Stealth/Recall Friend guy is risking his butt to get us safe passage. We are risking our butt to hunt while we wait. Stealth/Recall Friend guy is cheated in this scenerio for doing a good deed. Well, we can't use that tactic anymore. Losing that tactic may appear small to you, but that directly effects my enjoyment.

That scenerio THOUGH I ADMIT, is very specific, directly effects me and frankly that scenerio should not be classified as power leveling since all are taking risk.

If the minority PLers cause change that effect normal players and their normal tactics even on a small level, non-PLers are punished as a whole for a small percentage of bad seed.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Um, no. If he's taking too long, he just doesn't get any xp. You still get the same experience you would ALWAYS get with three people. He would just get zero. You're wasting experience still, but it's HIS problem, not yours. If he's not helping the team, sure, kick him. But you're getting the SAME experience as you do CURRENTLY on Live. He's in the team, he's sucking a 1/3 of the experience. The only difference is that with these changes, he wouldn't get any of the xp. YOU STILL DO!!!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Conceptually the 'team' does receive less xp. I personally may not be hurt by it but the whole point of teaming is to either seek help in a difficult situation or create an efficient fighting force. I personally equate XP earning in that "efficiency". I'm glad to help a teamed player get a little xp while they shop. I hope they will do the same for me.

actually this whole thing is really funny. Let's get those raskly PLers by moving around in huddled groups to make sure we don't lose out on xp. We'll look like Hammidon groups all over the city. DON'T LEAVE THE XP BUBBLE! LEAVE THE XP BUBBLE AND YOU WILL DIE!

    Changes to Rage

    [ QUOTE ]
    Thank you, Eviltrickster. Good post.

The issue here is some tankers (not all, but some) are just mad that they can't level as fast as they used to. Rage was meant to be a "last resort" power, like MoG. You need a big boost to take out a boss, AV, or monster? You got into a rage, and kick its butt. Rage was not meant to be turned on or off like a shield, nor was it meant to be an "everyday" power like Swipe or Thunder Kick. Rage is like Nova. You now use it when you have to make a big offensive punch, and then afterwards deal with the side effects.

Many tankers don't like this because they were used to hitting rage all the time and slicing through plus 5 lvl cons and getting massive XP. NOBODY else can do this. It's an exploit. An obvious exploit. An imbalance in the game.

I'm very happy the Devs find these imblances and fix them, and then ignore whiners who complain about the fix. It shows they care about the game, and how it is supposed to be played.

Bravo to them. Best devs in the business when it comes to costumers, no question.
