Definitely. Have you seen In Bruges? Amazing. He was the only good thing about Minority Report.

I can give you three solid reasons: bad writing, bad directing and bad acting. Watch that clip I posted above. It's amazing how bad it is. It's especially unforgivable for Colin Farrell to be that bad, since he's one of the best actors of his generation.

    YEEEEE-AAAAAH!

Seriously, this movie is ridiculous. It's not even comic book fun, it's just eye-rollingly bad.

I'm guessing it's a pretty safe bet. Just didn't care for her tone, donchaknow.

Though I will commend you for having the brass balls to say something like that. :P
Besides the awards and accolades I've won for language arts, I've won national and regional awards for my filmmaking and video work. Three of those is for documentary films. Both recent versions of iMovie and FCP incorporated changes that I suggested to Apple. (You're welcome.) I also won some website design awards about 12 years ago before I lost interest in that type of work, but I'm belaboring the point.

Not quite FF42RotSS, but in the vicinity.
I actually like FF2 -- I thought it captured the feel of the comic quite well and rather brilliantly handled the cosmic aspect of Galactus and the Silver Surfer. Galactus has always been an utterly ridiculous character, but they actually imbued him with world-ending menace. There wasn't much they could do about Jessica Alba, but aside from that particular flat spot, I thought the whole thing held together extremely well. I can't say the same for the first one, which was almost unbelievably clumsy in its construction and required that all the characters be idiots in order for the plot to move forward. At least in #2 they were actually smart and competent, exactly as the FF ought to be.

And that is something that carries over into real life. Stress can kill you.
  14. I couldn't finish watching Daredevil. Affleck was so non-good that it was embarrassing. Fortunately he's improved substantially since then, but he was unprepared to carry a film at the time.

This news doesn't excite me, either. I thought 30 Days of Night completely missed the feel of the book, which was scary as hell. The movie was almost there, but it was too bright and had a distinct lack of menace.

He was clad in silk and velvet, with the royal lions of Aquilonia worked in gold upon his rich jupon, and the crown of Aquilonia shone on his square-cut black mane; but the great sword at his side seemed more natural to him than the regal accoutrements. His brow was low and broad, his eyes a volcanic blue that smoldered as if with some inner fire. His dark, scarred, almost sinister face was that of a fighting-man, and his velvet garments could not conceal the hard, dangerous lines of his limbs."
Actually, Power_Play's right: Conan is supposed to be a Celtic analogue. As such, he's a massive Germanic or Gallic warrior. Since his description is "far northern" and his name is a traditional Irish name, then "lily white" might be apt. It's possible "dark" in this instance doesn't literally mean a "non-white" appearance but rather his countenance.

And, really, I'm much more interested in whether he can pull off the physicality of the role and Conan's brooding manner rather than if his eyes are blue.
Me too. As with many characters, I don't think Conan's exact physical details are vitally important. I don't think you could go with someone who isn't at least vaguely Caucasian, but ballpark is good enough.

No, I knew I was correct; it's easier to just to copy and paste rather than get in a long, pointless argument. Whatever it is you're good at, I'm better at spelling and grammar than you are at that. I also have brown eyes. These are not meant as braggadocio but as simple axiomatic facts.

Not a comic book series, but I'd like to see Wild Cards get the HBO-type treatment, say, a mini-series, starting at the beginning and telling individual stories, but the build-up would be to the end of the third book, so the individual stories would support that. Having proposed such a chopping block, I'd cut my favorite story, Witness, as a first step. Sorry, Jack.

Of course, the money would be ridiculous, and the reaction would likely be the same as for the Watchmen movie, so this one will never see the light of day. Especially since George already has HBO doing his other series. Still, a guy can dream, right?
Someone here once suggested that a City of Heroes TV series that featured the city as the common character would be cool, and I agree. The only thing remotely similar to that idea are anthology shows like The Twilight Zone where "weird" is the only common thread binding them together.

I doubt it would be very popular since people are used to series having a set roster of main characters, but I think it would be awesome. Especially if it's animated and double especially if we can get Bruce Timm to design it.

I used "speak" in the colloquial sense of understanding a language and communicating same.

    To wit:

    speak

[speek] Show IPA ,verb, spoke or ( Archaic ) spake; spo·ken or ( Archaic ) spoke; speak·ing.
    –verb (used without object)
    1. to utter words or articulate sounds with the ordinary voice; talk: He was too ill to speak.
    2. to communicate vocally; mention: to speak to a person of various matters.
    3. to converse: She spoke with him for an hour.
    4. to deliver an address, discourse, etc.: to speak at a meeting.
    5. to make a statement in written or printed words.
    6. to communicate, signify, or disclose by any means; convey significance.

For my part, I'm willing to try anything in a MMORPG. It's just a game after all. I'm not willing to do things I don't like and I don't. But I don't equate doing things I don't like with taking me out of my comfort zone. My argument is that folks should be comfortable at least TRYING anything. And if they don't like it, that's cool, then you don't have to do it.

So from that perspective, I don't think Sam should have to be taken out of his comfort zone. I also don't believe the existence of content that he might not personally enjoy represents that, even if said content gates rewards.
I agree with everything but the bolded. There aren't much deviations from standard setups for certain types of content. For instance, someone doesn't have to try raiding in every mmo to know that they dislike raiding. There really isn't much difference in raiding from one game to the next. Another example mmo pvp. There really isn't much difference in pvp from one game to the next. If you don't like killing other player avatars it doesn't matter what mini-games or window dressing they put around it, you're not going to pvp.
I wouldn't necessarily agree with those statements. If PvP were utterly changed in this game so that every power did the exact same damage as the equivalent power of that level and recharges were all identical, the way they are in FPS deathmatches, then I'd certainly play it. That way I'd get to bring the character I like best and you get to bring the character you like best and no one is inherently better.

    But that's beside the point...

I think the whole notion of "being forced to try something" is entirely different from what EG is saying and the exact same thing I mentioned earlier. "Try it, you'll like it" is a different attitude form "at least try it to see if you like it." There's an assumption built into the first one that your preferences are somehow incorrect while in the second there's encouragement to at least step out of your comfort zone.

Using Sam's dislike of the market as an example: right now it's encouraged. You can make your character perform better by buying stuff in the market, you can play the market as a mini-game in and of itself, but you don't really need it to play the game successfully. If the Devs were to change that and tell us we could only get Enhancements from recipes we bought at the market, that would be forcing Sam out of his comfort zone. I would encourage him to try it because maybe he would actually like it, but I would never say to him that he *must* use it.

As I alluded earlier, I think all MMO game design should be that way, so people can find what works for them rather than be forced into a specific way of playing.
  20. General comments:

First off, I'm one to jump on a misspelling, but I say lay off with the "looser/loser" thing. English isn't his first language. How well do you speak Swedish? That's what I thought.

Secondly, I get his concern. I wouldn't want to lose my global, either. All things considered, it's a minor thing, but it's still nice to have.

I think the fairest way to determine who gets the "pure" name is

    Active > Inactive
    Active Vet > Active New

    in that order.
  21. Works for me. Everything's an Incarnate these days, so why not? Heck, the couch in my superbase is an Incarnate.
  22. I have a few characters who might make use of this, but their limited number doesn't stop me from approving the idea. Make it so.
