  1. Looking at how many merits I earn versus how many I need results in this opinion: Merits are worthless to me. I will just ignore the system.

I generally solo, but when I do team I've often been annoyed by team leaders who only do their own story arcs and no one else's. When I lead teams, I always try to do a "round robin" set of missions where everyone in the team who isn't sidekicked gets a mission done for them in turn. Now it's even worse, in that some team leaders aren't even considering doing anything besides their own story arcs in order to get the merits. This diminishes my ability to earn merits, so I will therefore ignore this system.

I don't know if this system will make certain IOs even more rare at WW than they already are, but that point is probably moot, since I could never make enough influence to afford even a couple of the most desirable IOs. Adding loot to the game has increased farming, as farming is the only way to earn enough Influence to afford the kind of IOs we all want. Because let's face it, most IOs are utterly useless.

So unless the merit system is changed to allow casual players who actually play the game as it's intended to get the IOs we need, then I'll reiterate merits are worthless to me. I will just ignore the system.

    Help me choose?

I don't really care for the third one, and I think the first one is a bit busy, which leaves the middle one for me. Plus the second one will be easier to draw again and again.
  3. I totally want to see your progress. Post!

Do you have a character that is crashing at the map loading screen?

Does this crash affect only a few of your characters and not all?

Are all of the crashing characters from the same Super Group or Villain Group?

If you have answered Yes to the above three questions then please post here with the following information:

    Server:
    Character Name:
    SG/VG Name:
    When do you crash:
    Does it affect all characters:
Does it affect only characters in one or more SG's or VG's:

We have uncovered a bug that is affecting some groups, in cases like this there are usually a few more select groups, so we'd like to help CS find you and get you back up and running.

    Regards,

This seems to be affecting all of my characters. I'd test more, but I'm getting tired of the constant disconnects.

This evening I've lost connection multiple times on

    Virtue
    Tommi Gunn, 42
    Sentinels Prime
Middle of mission twice, once while zoning into PI

    Virtue
    Space Cowboy, 13
    Sentinels Prime
    Exiting PPD in KR

    Triumph
    Yuletide Carol, 16
    No SG
Changing zones, multiple times inside BNY mission, multiple times on ski slopes

    Infinity
    Boom-Boom the Panda, 25
    No SG
Going from Talos to Steel, just standing in the tailor

    Guardian
    Infernelle, 17
    No SG
    Changing zones, in hospital
  8. ::: looks at alt list :::

Yeah, just call me "American Express." I'm everywhere you want to be.

My primary homes are Guardian (the original beta server), which is where you'll find Ironik and my two 50s (Photon X and Future Shock), and Virtue, where my next two 50s will be fairly soon, since they're edging up on it (Monster Child and Tommi Gunn).

But I have mid-level toons on every server.

A tradesman is a professional with a high degree of practical and theoretical knowledge in his/her specialty. An artist is a tradesman, regardless of the quality of his/her work. Overwhelmed, undermotivated and in a bind...every professional is going to have to deal with challenges regardless of the industry they're in. No offense, but your argument makes it sound like jomaro should get a free pass because his job title is artist. With all due respect to you and other artists, I don't believe that should be the case. But clearly something isn't going right and those issues should be addressed in a fair manner, especially if the clients involved also consider him a friend.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Respectfully I disagree, I don't consider art to be a trade, or that is to say quality art to be a trade. I consider it to be a specialty. Skill is one thing, competence another, and even with both in 1 artist, there is a difference to me, from a tradesman's approach, which I consider to be devoid of innovation. A tradesman may be inspired to do his job well, professionally because he is paid, but this does not make him an artist.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you're starving in a garret and no one depends on you, you can be a self-indulgent "artist." If you're producing work for hire, you're a tradesman.

Jomaro is undeniably talented. But innovative? Hardly. He draws pictures of existing characters. Sure, he does nice work, but then so does my floor guy. Everyone who comes to my house remarks on how beautiful the floors are. Even people who don't have any interest in flooring take notice, because he's amazingly talented. I'd stack anything my floor guy does up against anything MMO Art does.

But if he made me wait for three years after I'd paid him, you can believe the next time we met it would be inside a courtroom. In many jurisdictions, grand theft is considered anything over $500. Some places it's $1000. Take a look at some of those prices MMO Art charges. It's pretty thin ice to skate, and I doubt there are many courts in the country that would excuse such behavior on the grounds of, "but he's an artist."

    [ QUOTE ]
An artist invents, something from nothing, he may have tools for this, but those tools are indifferent in the hands and mind of a true artist. He creates because it is his passion, and he cannot express himself better in any other format... Put those tools in the hands of a tradesman, and you will get something nice for sure, something beautiful perhaps, but will it be wonderous? Will it be unique? Will it showcase the artist over the medium.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, well, I'm not impressed by this line of argument.

  15. [ QUOTE ]
It is very difficult for an artist to constantly be motivated, even when hey are at the top of their game. It is very LONELY work, and while he may have a partner in life, that partner is not "doing" the art along side him. In a perfect world, the artist will continually put out work and never change, never burn out, never want to do work other than what the fans or excuse me clients demand.

I can't speculate on Jomaro, but I can understand that if he's behind, the end doesn't get any closer, no matter how much you want it to... the art has to be done, plain and simple, and that will sometimes sit in limbo for a variety of reasons. My main work stop is my wife, I cannot function if there is something wrong between us... thankfully that is few and far between. Regardless of the reason, motivation is something that can't be turned on at the flip of a switch...

I wish him luck with the monumental task he is undertaking, and to all of the clients, I empathize with your frustration. I have days where I wish my queue would disappear, but "this is the business we have chosen", so I try to re-motivate myself, and hope the guilt will somehow get less and less with each pencil stroke... okay back to work!

No offense, but that kind of self-indulgent dilly-dallying has no place in the professional world. Making someone wait 3 years for work that was paid for is irresponsible. In some states it's criminal. Any of my employees who tried to pull that would be fired without references. Once you take on work for hire, you're no longer an "artiste" but a tradesman -- get the job done or else.

If the wait is too long for your clients (and I would suggest that anything past a couple months is far too long a wait), you do what any responsible, professional adult would do: you stop taking orders until you're caught up and you bust your hump until you *are* caught up. And you deal on a first-come, first-served basis. Just because Client B is willing to pay twice what Client A will shouldn't give them the right to jump the line.

If it takes you 6 weeks to do a piece on average, then communicate that, and don't overextend yourself to the point where people are waiting for you a year later.

That's just common sense and ordinary respect.

It's been there much longer than that. Forum consensus is that it will eventually be a spaceport, much like the mysterious construction in Port Oakes behind the arena.

Yeah, it's been there quite a while, maybe even when the first Rikti event in the summer of '07, whatever Issue that was. I definitely have screenshots of it from mid '07, because one of my toons was fighting a fire there and I took some screenies.
