Quote:The history stuff probably came primarily from Jack.Jake Emmet is funny because he is accused of nerfing the bad guys in that one Police Band mission.
The Television missions
The names of the neighborhoods in RWZ (There is most certainly a history buff working for Paragon Studios and I will find them!)
Agincourt (Again, there's Mr. History Buff!)
The Cimeroran Traitors' leader, Romulus Augustus (Another historical reference)
Oh, and "You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy than the Rogue Isles." -

Quote:Pets also attack them quite happily while you can't.OK, so, to recap:
- It's NOT new
- It was NOT a stealth change, it was announced -- and discussed on the forums
- Since it's been in place for a few issues, it's NOT affecting the PVP IO supply in any noticeable way
One thing you can do is use PBAoE powers while they're rezzing. As if I needed ANOTHER incentive to click Fire Sword Circle. -
I solo a lot. But I have never once -- as in, not one single time -- ever complained that some content requires teaming to achieve.
As for the Trapdoor brouhaha, that has nothing to do with soloing and everything to do with removing choices. That some people insist on making it about soloing versus teaming is a different story entirely. When Trapdoor was too hard for one of my toons, I got help. I actually see more whining and crying from the "u shuld teem" crowd. -
I'm reminded of this because it's Indiana Jones weekend on USA Network, I like the crate in the starting Council mission has the same code number as the one from Raiders of the Lost Ark.

My favorite line from Silverado is used in the game: "I don't want to kill you and you don't want to be dead."

Whew... okay, a list. Definitely more males than females, and I apparently loooove Blasters and Scrappers. (Also, I can't believe that I have 117 males. That number follows me around, so to have it show up yet again is crazy.)
Male = 117
Female = 49
50s
M = 3 (Blaster, Blaster, Brute Demon, Robot, Cyborg)
F = 1 (Blaster Human)
Blaster
M = 22
F = 10
Brute
M = 8
F = 2
Controller
M = 6
F = 10
Corruptor
M = 8
F = 3
Defender
M = 15
F = 4
Dominator
M = 0
F = 3
Mastermind
M = 4
F = 0
Peacebringer
M = 6
F = 3
Scrapper
M = 29
F = 9
Soldier
M = 1
F = 0
Stalker

Tanker
M = 14
F = 3
Warshade
M = 3
F = 1
Widow

Although gender isn't really a factor when I make a character, I would guess most of mine are male by default. Having seen Eden's Fall's list, I want to make one of my own.

Quote:Dude, please, I'm the king of alts. If your friend has trouble with him, then -- to sum up your attitude towards the rest of us -- he needs to LRN2P. Masterminds of any stripe are like Easy Mode for Idiots. That's why I love them so.
You've never played Mercs OR Poison, have you?
Hell, I made a Demon/Storm MM just because, which means I have a grand total of ONE ranged attack besides my pets. Because he's mostly un-Enhanced and so has Endurance issues, I almost never use Steamy Mist or Hurricane. A Mercs/Poison MM is like cruise control by comparison. -
Wow, I think you actually meant that. Even without enhancements a Mastermind/Anything is better than 90% of the other ATs. Even my weakest MMs are like private armies curb-stomping 12-year-olds waving squirt guns.

Quote:Ah, see, this is why you think the mission is easy: you ACCIDENTALLY got quite LUCKY in your encounter. That explains quite a bit.I myself have not had fast summoning of bifurcations. I beat on the real one, and when he summons I jump around and hit tab until I target him. Then I close in on the bifurcation and smash it flat. They don't have a lot of HP.
I wouldn't suggest trying to outdamage him regen; maybe that's why you're so up in arms. You're trying to break through a concrete wall with your fists.
The first and third times I fought him he had the fast respawns. I nearly gave up on the first mission because my AR Blaster (!!) couldn't outdamage him and he was shooting me through oranges and purples. It only took two shots to kill me, too. Fortunately my friend logged on his tank. My Brute could not care less, because he couldn't get through my defenses and Fury meant my PBAoE seriously hurt him.
Fast respawns on a sub-optimal toon means it's just a mission of suck, period. Maybe you should keep things like that in mind when judging others inadequate in their playstyles. -
Quote:These are acceptable. My question is, why do you insist that one less way to defeat him is a good thing? Suppose next the Devs decide that using pets is a cheesy way to defeat him and gray out those powers? You still can team up and use inspirations, right? So that'd be fine.Reds.
Or kill his bifurcations.
Or any sort of summonable pets you can find all over the place.
Or a teammate.
For the life of me, I can't understand why you people are being so unbelievably dense about this. -
I've teamed twice to beat up Trapdoor and it makes the mission trivial in the extreme. It's only fun solo.

Quote:Money Wench would like to re-edumocate you on that subject:Most of my characters are female, and I've also played every AT at least once. My male characters are 2 brutes and a controller. Actually, now that I think about it, I don't think I've made a female brute. Female and Brute don't really go together in my head.
-
Quote:How many and what type of characters have you tried it on? Not everyone has optimal characters with uber builds, so EBs of any stripe can cause a problem. My Fire Blaster burned him to the ground without much of an issue and my Brute walked all over him. My AR Blaster had hell of a time (I had to ask a friend to help me) and on my Energy Blaster I had to pull him into the hall in order to defeat him. Despite all the knockback of the Energy powers, I couldn't keep him in the lava and he could easily two-shot me.If you read the last line of my first post... you're right. I was expecting flames. I really don't see the issue. I can't find a way to make the mission more of an issue to me. Damage him, smash his bifurcation, damage him until he dies. It's baffling to be that it's a trouble-causing mission.
Which is why I hated to say it. I can't come to any other conclusion, though.
Taking away the option of pulling him into the hallway simply leaves a single way to defeat him, which makes it not just more difficult, but also boring. Basically now you just have to out-damage his regen... just like every other EB/AV in the game. How dull is that? "Very dull indeed" is the answer you're looking for. I liked the fact that there was more than one way to defeat him, something many of us have been desiring for ages. True, the second way is simply a minor variation on the first, but at least it was something. Until they institute things like "use device to cause lava to erupt and destroy him" kind of options, that's the best we're going to get. And now they're taking it away? C'mon.
The attitude you're displaying is, "Well, my Purpled-out DPS monster waltzed through the mission so I don't know why you noobs don't know how to play." -

Quote:I don't know how you'd find maps that weren't overused. I'd do it if the story were cool, but let's face it, most stories aren't that good. Even then, the author could throw in one xp- and reward-heavy mission in the arc.This then raises in my mind a question for everyone who decries the arcs with lousy writing...
... if there were arcs that were well-written, with an engaging story, well-designed enemies, a good and varied use of maps, etc., but that occasionally might be lighter on XP (the way FedEx missions can be sometimes), would you still play them?
I recently played the Best Hero Arc of 2009 which was okay, but my god did she abuse the Clues. It says upfront that the clues are very important and to read them all but my eyes glazed over at the 25th clue or whatever it was. The writing was good but it needed serious editing to be pared down. Every single one of those clues could've been condensed down to a couple lines and added to the contact info. This is probably a game mechanic, but the fact that you had to constantly run back and forth in order to get clues which were unlocked after certain events was annoying, too. I rarely play with the sound on, so the sheer number of glowies that were activated in areas I'd already covered made the missions troublesome. Plus clues unlocked out of order so the story was disjointed. After a while I just stopped reading them.
And this was one of the better arcs I've run. -
Quote:If we had some sort of reliable reviewers, they could offer up some arcs that are worthy of Dev attention.I'd actually like to have Dev Choice (when was the last one? Or the one before that?), Players and Guest in their own interface, as well. Just off to the side. And yes, some dev attention - maybe spotlighting 1-2 a month. Yeah, it means the devs (or at least Aeon) has to dig through them, but showing SOME interest (other than fixing things which give the chorus of "zomg the devs nurft our farmz!") would be nice.
At the moment though, most of the Devs Choice and Guest Author arcs I've played were pretty bad, so I avoid those now. I'm thinking the Guest Author ones are there just because it draws some attention to the game since they sure aren't there because of merit. There's one in particular that was so unbelievably bad that it has ensured I'm never going to read that author's work. -
I haven't noticed any particular breakdown like that. I generally make mine according to concept -- if a female tank fits the concept, so be it.

I'm not the trademark police. I only report people who behave like douches. Besides, the lawsuit was settled and there's little chance Marvel will waste the time, effort and -- most importantly -- money on another, similar lawsuit.

Quote:The feedback (and 1-star ratings) I got on my arcs was so demoralizing that I deleted one and unpublished the other. I didn't have EBs ar AVs in either, which seemed to be the hang-up for many of the raters. Apparently focusing on story interfered with the farmers, so my arc got bad ratings and pushed to the bottom of the pile.I do play AE arcs sometimes. I get frustrated with the following:
Finding an arc that isn't someone's ticket farm and isn't really badly written.
Arcs that are written for level 40+ characters, but flagged as levels 1-54. Quite a lot of stuff is too tough for a level 8 character with TO enhancements and only 6 powers. (I play the introductory arcs that Flame Kitten did quite a lot with low level characters.)
Arcs that have custom power sets. This can be good or bad, but mostly bad. I've tried quite a few arcs where the arc designer designed characters to spam mez effects. I'm guessing these are designed for scrappers/tankers/brutes/stalkers who shrug off mez effects. Harder to play with a blaster or a defender.
Arcs that are over fond of Elite Bosses and Arch Villains. I don't like EBs or AVs. I don't want to play arcs with these. I'm not uber or leet.
Honestly, after playing in AE for a while, I often feel like I shouldn't even try playing anything but a scrapper or a brute. I kind of get the feeling that many AE writers feel that the regular game is too easy.
The last arc I played in AE left a sour taste in my mouth, and I haven't felt like trying again since. It was an arc by @Heraclea complaining about the developers nerfing experience on custom characters. As if the developers would ever play that lousy arc. People who waste my time to make a statement only make a bad experience. Preach on the forums, leave it out of the game. Or at least warn me.
Other things keeping me away from AE lately is all the shiny new stuff. I18 and I19 added lots of stuff to try out.
I want a better way of finding arcs that are appropriate for my character's level and level appropriate TO, DO or SO enhancement slotting. If it is built as a challenge for someone's level 50 purple IO build, I want warning well in advance.
I want to find a way to find story driven arcs, so I can avoid farms. I have no problems with farmers, but I aren't one.
I've played some really great AE arcs. But they were hard to find, and I don't want to keep playing them over and over until I tire of them. I want to find new ones to try. -
