With an ill/rad? Almost all of them. The STF might be too much for you. All the low level ones should be easy enough. You'll probably need some pet help at the end of Lady Grey with the Honoree using Unstoppable again and again.
Quote:That depends on your definition of duoing. I've duo'd the Hollows trial before with 2 people on the trial each logging in 4 toons for the simul clicks. -
You can macro them, but I usually use keybinds to load my keybinds.
You've got F1-F12, Ctrl F1-F12 and Alt F1-F12 - that's 36 keybinds. I have a printed card across the top of my keyboard with the 25 binds set up so far.
It can get pretty sophisticated. Ctrl-F5 loads a full set of keybinds (22 separate binds) onto my numeric keypad for instructions during the Abandoned Sewer Trial. One of the keybinds loads a bindfile to ERASE all of the trial keybinds, including the keybind that loads the erasing bindfile. Yes, a keybind can load a new keybind onto the key you just pressed. -

AV software is generally pretty aweful... it can only do crap once your system is already being penetrated... better to simply not be penetrated in the first place than depend entirely on the gamble that AV software will know about all threats.
I have those three also. Plus a software firewall (ZoneAlarm). -
Most of the installations Ive done have used thermal paste in a plunger type tube, but I have heard of thermal pads. Ive also read (when working on dads PC build a couple years ago) that certain types of CPUs have preferred methods/locations for the thermal paste depending on the on-die chip arrangement. What type is going to come with the CPU if any and should I bother looking for the pad style?
The pads are generic garbage that come with OEM installations. You should never ever CHOOSE to use one of them. If you buy a CPU bundled with the Intel cooler, the heatsink will have thermal paste on it already. I would scrape it off, clean the heatsink, and apply 'real' thermal paste. If you buy an aftermarket heatsink, it will be shipped clean. It may or may not come with separate thermal paste. I use Arctic Silver.
As for how to apply the paste based on the CPU type, there are plenty of guides online. All the main manufacturers of thermal paste have PDF guides on their sites.
Now depending on the model case I end up with, some will have more fans than others and different sizes and options for types/quantity of fans. Considering this build, should I buy extra fans? Whats a good configuration? What am I forgetting to ask?
You shouldn't need any extra fans. As for configuration, they'll all be installed the same way: front and/or side fans blowing IN, rear and/or top fans blowing OUT.
Ive noticed that most of the motherboards have multiple video connectors (D-SUB, DVI, HDMI, etc) builtin even though theres no onboard video controller. Is this a side effect of the CPUs builtin GPU or is there something else afoot? If Im wanting HDMI as a current primary connection, then do I need to focus on the PCI-E GPUs connections or the motherboards?
The video connectors on the motherboard are irrelevant since you will be using the connectors on a separate video card.
If you cant tell, Im still struggling with the motherboard decision simply because theres too many choices. Some have more 3.0 USBs, some have more 6Gb/s SATA3s, but they all have a weird range of mixed PCI-E slots. Many of the slots are shared one way or another that would affect performance depending on whats plugged where. Some of these choices could affect the case decision based on header locations, etc. Maybe not, but never know.
Any decent mobo should have more USB connectors than you'll need. I have 6 on the back of the case and two on the front. Two are USB 3, but I don't actually have any USB 3 devices.
As for the PCI-E slots, how many do you expect to use? I have a video card installed. That's it. My ethernet and audio are built in on the mobo. My video capture is external. If you're adding a wireless card, that won't need a high speed slot. Just make sure you have a 16x slot for the video card and that you won't be doing anything that downgrades it to a lower speed.
Same with SATA 3 - how many devices do you expect to have that will actually need it? I have one (my SSD). -
So..... I'm gonna bring either a tank or a dark/dark.... and the first sign-up is a tank and the second is a dark/dark.

Good start. I'll keep reading.
Yeah.... so the problem is too many global channels and the solution is to create another global channel? hmm..... I think the XKCD webcomic kind of went there..... -
Quote:That show was hysterical. I wrote a scenario for the Champions pen & paper game based on the episode with REGIS (Replicant Engineered for Galactic Infiltration and Sabotage). Michael Dorn was the voice of REGIS and the lines were completely over the top, "PLEASE REMAIN CALM. YOU WILL ALL DIE."
I had recorded the episode and captured the REGIS quotes on my laptop to play during the gaming session. It was a huge hit.
So... how about Gigantor? -
Quote:So... it just plays a loop of music with a simple animation?
Huh... what's the appeal in that? -

Quote:Your entire argument goes off the rails right here. If they had introduced the banning policy in a similar timeframe, you might have a valid point. But the perma-ban policy for buying gold has been around since LONG before the market existed. You are absolutely correct of course. It's all about the money; my concern is that by selling purple enhancements, NCSoft is entering a niche where they are not competitive on price, and have to gain market share by creating artificial barriers to entry such as banning players who buy from other companies.

Quote:Unless you're going to be overclocking, or stressing the CPU in some other way, the stock cooler is fine. Intel's OEM HSF's (Original Equipment Manufacturer HeatSink & Fan) used to suck but they're a lot better now... i.e. "good enough".What I haven't heard about is suggestions on the CPU/GPU cooling. Well, besides Hyperstrike's example from his thread, but still, do I need more than factory or what comes with a good case?
Now, in my case, my CPU is running at 100% utilization on all cores 24/7. I've got a cooler from Zalman that's not much smaller than a brick. I have a Core i7 870. The default clock is 2.93 GHz but, if it's kept cool, it will overclock itself. It's 77F in this room and my CPU is running at 3.21 GHz because my HSF is more than sufficient to the task. Plus I have an Antec 900 case which has a 22cm (the size of a dinner plate) fan in the roof of the case. -

Okay, this week WAS going to be Positron part 2, but just about everyone stuck around and we ran part 2 last week after part 1. Also, the Positron TFs are so short and require so few people to run I can run either or both again without any planning for anyone who needs it.
Going strictly by level, the Cavern of Transcendence would be next (12-15) but I have never run that on a toon using DO's and don't imagine it's much fun. Therefore, going to do the Synapse TF to get peoples new toons high enough for SO's, then go back and do the Cavern trial next week.

The Fall of the Clockwork King (AKA Synapse TF)
Level 15+
Requires 4 to start.
Contact is in Skyway City.
1. Ironblade - Either Dark Lord Darkness (dark/dark controller) or Fists of Furry Fury (SR/StJ tank). (Both have already done this TF.)
2. Elllls - Tributary (WP/staff tank)
3. Ad Astra - Ebony Shadows (dark/dark dom)
4. reButters - some kind of buffer or debuffer
5. AngelicaVenger - Speaks Softly (and carries a big stick - duh!)
6. Flux Overlord - General Bloodshed (broot)
7.

Quote:Dude, why you want to be bringing reason and common sense into a nerdrage thread? This is cheap entertainment. You might want to keep reading the thread.
Also, please stop calling this "bait and switch". Google it. It doesn't mean anything like this. Selling you a service that changes later is not what "bait and switch" means. -
Quote:OMG! This just in: business tries to make a profit!I'm beginning to think that the devs don't have the players' best interests in mind here.
They're not UNICEF. They're in business to make money. Next, someone will trot out a ridiculous line about ripping off your customers not being a good business plan. Tell that to companies that sell any luxury item. A $500 pair of sunglasses is not more functional than a pair costing under $100 but some people pay the big bucks. Similar situation here. I think the prices for purples and enhancement/salvage/recipe storage are ridiculous, so I don't buy them. But I pay for two VIP accounts and just about every costume part that they make. Everyone has their own opinion of what's 'worth it'. -
Sorry, way too late for that argument. They already did EXACTLY that when they introduced the superleader rank. Once someone has the red star, they can kick everyone else from the SG.

Quote:Flash isn't all that useful IMO. An AoE sleep mez with very low starting accuracy (you need a +3 SO in Acc just to get it up to the base for SW and Blind).Quote:Flash is actually a hold, but you are correct that it isn't very useful.
Use it situationally. If someone came in here and complained that they kept running out of END because they kept Flight on during battles, we'd tell them to shut it off when they don't need it.
Quote:Either they purposefully designed Illusion Control to be super slow and painful to use or they designed it to work ina game that is not City of Heroes's combat based gameplay.
Quote:When has this game ever rewarded "non-combat" gameplay and avoiding combat?
Quote:They need to admit that they made mistakes, like they did with PVP originally and with the most recent changes, and make an effort to improve things.
Quote:The first thing they can do is make accuracy and endurance reduction less necessary so we don't waste at least 1/3 of our slots on just those.
Quote:The second thing is they should either make non-combat gameplay or make every power set viable in combat.
Quote:Those are not suggestions. They are necessary to the design of this game since it is already combat based. -
Quote:Yes, it does. And this means nothing to a gamer. Ignore it.Hmm, it looks like the CPUs list HD-Graphics for some reason. Does that mean there's a GPU builtin or something?
I like Asus and Gigabyte. EVGA has an excellent reputation but I think they're noticeably more pricey. (Haven't looked at mobos lately.) I have used EVGA graphics cards. MSI always struck me as more of a 'low end' manufacturer. However, I have used an MSI mobo in an old system where the mobo died and liked it much more than I expected. I don't know squat about ASRock.
Quote:I've had luck with this G.Skill brand so far and they're usually nicely priced and rated,
Quote:I'm guessing that the latter is some kind of more specialized set as the CAS are listed identically except for the last number. Any insight into what this is about? Am I looking at the right type of RAM for these conditions?
1) Select your motherboard.
2) Select a RAM manufacturer.
3) Go to their site and use their online guides to tell you what RAM works in that motherboard.
4) Profit. -
Quote:You'll keep them. One of the rednames advised in another thread that there is no system to 'claw back' costume parts. Once a costume part is awarded, either per toon or per account, it stays. If I buy the VIP starter kit, and use those points to buy a costume part and then I decide to go back to a free account will I keep those parts or will they become unavailable?
Yep. They will be available forever on that toon only, but across all costume slots that character has. -
Quote:um.... I am reminded of something my grandmother said. She made a comment about her sisters cat and I asked, "You don't like cats?"Do you think anyone would like the idea of PvP without actually PvPing?
She said, "I like cats - as long as they don't touch me or get near me."

The 70's called. They want their keyboard back.

What would really help is if the game let you increase the cursor size. Seriously. Supposedly, the little up and down triangles in the targeting window are there to show level difference for people who are color blind. They gave us that but no ability to enlarge the cursor???
