  1. Shield's a great set. As with most tank sets, you want to take Tough and Weave for extra durability. Also, you want your powers that give resistance to defense debuff to avoid the notorious 'cascade failure'.

On my invuln tank, the Cimerorans in the ITF had my base defense at -100% within seconds. I recently did the ITF on an SR tank and they never took my defense down more than 3%. I haven't done the ITF on my shield tank lately, but I do know he has the Master of ITF badge.

I have shield paired with axe for thematic reasons.

You shouldn't have to check your account to find out your status.
Off the top of your head, are you paying a monthly subscription? If not, you're not VIP.
  3. We're skipping over the Ms. Liberty TF for now so we can synch up with the Weekly Strike Target schedule again.

This is a co-op task force, so all alignments can participate.

For this task force, you need to be level 50 and have the Alpha Slot unlocked and slotted. If it's not slotted, you're dead to us! You're dead weight! An albatross!

    Alpha Strike (AKA Apex TF)
    Level 50
    Requires 8 to start.
Contact is in the Rikti War Zone.

    1. Ironblade - dunno yet
    2. Tiny Bolt - Little Lady Luck (ice/cold corr)
    3. Mystery Inc - whatever is needed
    4. Asgardian Blade - Count DarkFire (fire/dark corr)
    5. Saint Jon - probably Saint Jon (blaster)
    6. Ad Astra - Brighid Frost (blaster) or Winter Shock (elec/cold troller?)
    7. Doctor A Science - some kind of corr
    8. GATE-keeper - I'll let you know later
  4. I made a new tank late Thursday night and got him to 43 by the time 2XP ended. Got him to 45 today.

Highlighted the part that's wrong. Distance is irrelevant for badge credit. You just need to be in the same zone.

    i24 badges?

I was on Triumph teaming with my brother and we had no trouble gathering people for a task force (PRIOR to 2XP weekend).

This isn't a good time to be buying anything on the market. We just finished a Double XP Weekend and prices are crazy. Give it a week or so to settle down.

Both, and it's a mess to get really good performance from it. I have it slotted with:
Touch of the Nictus (heal, heal/rech, acc/heal)
    Focused Smite (dam/rech, acc/dam/rech)
    Touch of Death (dam/rech)

I'm not in-game so I'm not sure what stats that gives. If it seems I have too much of anything, it's probably because I normally IO using level 35 sets.

Hell yeah. I like to ask trivia questions like, How many actors can you name that appeared on both the Batman tv show and the original Star Trek series?

I was always amazed at the people they managed to get on Batman. I mean, Otto Preminger was a world-famous director, so conservative that he typically wore a three piece suit on set. Yet he played Mr. Freeze, one of the most absurd villains on Batman. That role was also played by George Sanders. WTF? How did they get serious actors to play Mr. Freeze???

I can understand people like Victor Buono, John Astin, Roddy McDowell, Vincent Price and Frank Gorshin playing silly parts, but Michael Rennie? Joan Collins? Cesar Romero?

You passed up the ability to have a self-heal as part of your attack chain? Big mistake, in my opinion. My dark/dark and my invuln/dark both have Siphon Life six-slotted. (And Rangle has it five-slotted.)
  12. um.... Flames of Hephaestus?
Never actually seen one in person, but it sounds like it might be what you're talking about.

No, never mind. I think it's actually the Resurrector.

On a side note, this door is not restricted by AT. It's based on your level of stealth. I believe those are the only AT's that can enter UNASSISTED. However, I strolled through the stealth door on my empathy defender on one trial.

A controller CAN NOT take empathy as their primary. They can only take it as a SECONDARY.

I have seen some folks ridiculed in public channels for being a controller who focuses on the primary and only choosing certain powers from the secondary.
I would think *ANY* AT can reasonably be expected to focus on their primary - that's why it's called that. If you're ignoring it to focus on your secondary, you picked the wrong AT. Of course, that doesn't justify someone being a build Nazi.

    Quote:
But, seriously expecting someone with emp secondary to get every secondary power? Is that the expectation?
Only from stupid people. But who cares what they expect. Or think.

    Quote:
I've played an empath defender before to level 50+3 with t-4 in all and never had anyone take an issue for me leaving absorb pain out.
I have NEVER taken Absorb Pain on any character, whether empathy was primary or secondary.

    Quote:
Yet, I play my controller and it seems to be a different story.
Only if you listen to stupid people.

I do know that with some powersets, there are powers that most folks who "know what they are doing" consider must haves, and that others are skippable.
Absorb Pain is one of the skippable ones. Eminently so.

In case you missed it, let me reiterate that some players are STUPID and should not be listened to.

    1. As this is my first time is there any recommended archetype?
Personally, I would recommend a scrapper or brute. This will give you good damage output and good survivability, while being relatively simple to play.

    2. If I choose a villian archetype, can I still play as a hero?
Yes. You pick your alignment in the tutorial. You can choose any of the 10 basic archetypes and pick hero or villain. (Except as a free player you can't pick Controllers or Masterminds. Both of these types get pets which put a greater load on the game servers so you have to buy access to those.)

    3. I have a full time job and will only be able to play sporadicly, so im gueesing team up wont be a option, is there anything I should think about when I want to solo?
Not following you here. Most of us have full time jobs. I certainly do. And I team all the time. I would think the restriction on your teaming would be difficulty in communicating. As a completely new player, you have pretty heavy restrictions on what communication channels are accessible to you. This is done to stop spamming by gold farmers. The more money you put into the game, the better communication you have available since gold farmers rely on free accounts.

Putting just $5 into the game will give you the ability to send private tells to players so you can reply to people who announce they are forming teams. There is a nice listing here on ParagonWiki.com that gives details of the benefits of certain levels of expenditures. That site is a HUGE resource for this game and is created and maintained by players.

hmm..... John C. Dvorak posted an article titled "Can You Google?" in which he states, "Many students lack search skills and their schools are to blame."

Now, the first few links were discussing the new colored titles. But the fifth link yielded the following:

Good point. I would expect a resurgence in people trying for the badge when we get another incarnate power that improves performance in the trial. Not to mention when we get the next level shift.

We have people transferring to Infinity to get the badge (RHW). I would think there are groups on other servers also running it regularly. Infinity currently does a couple of runs every Sunday evening after our mothership raid (which starts around 8EST).

Basically, we have two teams (mostly corrs, for the extra scourge damage) of people who know the drill and are willing to run it repeatedly to get other people the badge. That allows a full team of just about any AT. We don't succeed on every run, but we're averaging.... I would guess around 75-80% success rate? I haven't been keeping stats. We certainly succeed more than we fail - and by a good margin.

After I got the badge on my badger toon, I got my fire/thermal corr to 50+3 just to help on this trial. Recently, the people who lead it have also starting doing a run or two on another night since Sunday doesn't work for everyone. I can't recall, though, whether it was Friday or Saturday.

Now, the potential obstacle is that many people (myself included) refuse to hop servers for a badge, no matter how many free transfers we have (I have 16 - I bought extra on sale). In my case, I run an SG and have a big prestige number next to my name and that's more important to me than a badge.
