Let me point out some history for you. Let's set the way back machine to, oh, say i1-6. Back in those days there was exactly one way to advance a level 50 character. Wait for it- yes, you got it- farming Hamidon. That was your sole course of advancement. It was the only way the character could improve. You would join a huge raid, and get your Hami-Os for the advancement that would provide.

You wanted another way to advance? Tough noogies. Suck it up.

Oh, does that burst your bubble and quaint history? Sorry, facts are facts.

A single Hami raid got you a single Hami O (barring the days when you could scam multiple buds, luckily that didn't last very long). You want another? Do it again - and that will be the next day since Hami won't respawn for a while.

Or how about we call you on the fact that you make claims about the history of the game that don't happen to line up with reality.

Heck, I could also bring up inventions. Rare inventions initially required doing task forces (or hoping someone would sell you want you wanted eventually). That's more gated advancement. Now granted this is somewhat different because of the market and the ability to trade, but fundamentally it is about advancement being provided the way the devs want it to be provided not "doing whatever you want".

You have created a narrative which suits your argument, but which doesn't agree with the facts. It's certainly your right to complain about content you don't like. It's fine to ask for something different. But if you are going to make arguments, don't distort history in search of facts to make your case.
So you are saying my facts that Statesman and Positron came out and made an issue of farming being a problem was a lie?

They never put timers on missions that have not had them formerly?

    I am lying?

No sir, selective memory indeed. Dreck farms, wolf farms and other easily farmed missions did indeed get timers. You can say the entire game is a farm, if you mean that the way you advance is defeat foes, get shineys and xp - yes you are correct. If you define a farm as REPEATEDLY playing the same content over and over and over.

By the way please remind me, when you defeated Hamidon could you immediately do it again?

I do believe my old man brain recalls a 24 hours cool down and people scouting the Hive for Hamidon to respawn. That was because they didn't want him FARMED.

I say again thank you for proving my point.

I could be wrong but I honestly can not recall a single developer actually coming out to say that they want to rid CoX of farming. I think you are confusing farming legitimately versus farming using exploits. The devs have only been explicitly throwing their weight against the latter. Frankly, in any repeatable instance based MMO where rewards between different quests/missions/content can vary greatly, farming is unavoidable. The devs are not naive enough to believe otherwise.
That would be wrong on your part. Positron and Statesman came out and explicitly said they did not like farming. If you were not here when they added timers to Dreck and the Woilf farms - that's your problem.

Look if you don't like me and my comments - ignore me. I will be ignoring you in the future because obviously you don't have a clue about the past history of this game.
  3. Nice try.

Nope I am not saying that I am better, that my way is better or that the WoW players are inferior.

What I am saying is that for 7 years the Devs had a specific goal in mind for their players - everyone can advance doing whatever it is they want to.

Yes, you may need to do a trial to get a respec - but once unlocked you were not forced to repeat the trial over and over - earning a currency that you could buy a respec with.

You may like the "content" we have been haded. I however don't as it flies directly into the face of past policy. Farming was a HUGE no-no, they added timers to farm missions so they would expire. They whacked repeatedly various AE missions. They spent a lot of time and made it a public policy that farming was not approved of.

    Then they made 2 farms.

So please ignore what the past history of the game was and why it was so successful. It would be useful if you could understand this community is what it is because we have not had the drive for the shiney that in most players mind the shiney was playing itself and having fun.

Please continue to demonize me for pointing out this is NOT what the game has done for 7 years.
  4. Somewhere down the line - a Dev decided that the way we have played for 7 years is wrong. You take an older game with a fairly static base and you introduce a completely new style of game play.

A style of game play that made many of those who come here - choose City of Heroes over the other games.

I agree that solo I can invest tons of time - defeat hundreds of foes and get hardly any shards to drop. There was always a reward for everyone in this game - heck they even made it where you can turn of XP because some people found playing the content was REWARDING!

Now you tell me play the approved way or get no reward. The approved way is to farm - something every Dev in the past has tried to stop. Now suddenly - all is well and The Tractor Supply Store needs a branch in Paragon.
  5. Exactly proving my earlier point.

I am not saying that just following the Dev direction is wrong - I am saying I am not doing it - I don't find it fun and encouraging it leads to more of the same.

You said exactly what I pointed out - it isn't that fun but the reward is good and it only takes 30 minutes, so what is the harm? The harm is this will be what the game becomes if it is encouraged.
  6. Acheivement: I solo'd a Winterlord the first time they came out on a fire/fire blaster

Disacheivement: I did so while standing at the feet of a contact and constantly refilling my inspirations

Now I'm sure someone will come in here and tell me how I should just leave, my opinion doesn't matter, and my 60 months of paid time is of no consequence because I don't like the new shiny that has completely ruined non-50 teaming on my server and turned CoH into a solo game for me.

Bitter? Why yes I am, thank you for noticing.
This is EXACTLY my thought. You will not allow me to advance doing what "I" want to do - like you have for 7 years? This in my mind is what I always feared would happen and the direction the game would take.

If this continues, ok have fun.
  8. You see there in lies the rub - why wouldn't they make a new currency?

If the lemmings jump over the cliff every time they make a new gate - why not? I refuse to play the Baf or Lambda trials. They are farms and I have never farmed anything other than the wall in Cim - just because I like beating up Romans!

The trials reward you for doing only one form of content. The content has been made so it just a Pavlov's dog form of reward punch the button for 30 minutes and get the reward. Players say 3 things not even realizing they contridict each other.

    1. What's wrong with you don't like hard content?
    2. What's wrong with you - you don't even have to win to advance.
    3. What's wrong with you they only take 30 minutes.

You see the trap - it's not really that hard, it's not really that fun doing it over and over - but I don't have to win and it's quick.

    Really?

I play to have fun. If I am not having fun - I stop playing and quit the team I am in, swap to another character or quit the game and go do something else. I do not find farming fun. If I can get the reward for content by doing what I want to do - like I could with Shards, then ok! Make me endlessly loop trials to get a new shiney - nope - I will ignore the "content" or if the new stuff becomes more heavily based on this sort of stuff - just quit and do something else.

The beauty of this game and what made it different is I could always play whatever I wanted to do and advance. If I can't no problem - I just spend my entertainment dollars elsewhere. This grinding farms is as far away from fun as anything I can even imagine.

I guess one good thing for the game is it will be attractive to the WoW crowd.

    Email problems

I lost stuff on 2 occasions after server maintenance and although it was sent to 2nd level for resolution - I never recieved my items nor any further communication.

Sorry, in my book the email support is nil.
  10. You do realize this is false right?

If you use shards it will take you 2 years to get your Incarnate slots completed. This has already been shown. So this is my entire point. I farm or I don't advance. This goes against every single thing that this game has stood for the last 7 years.

Farming was not an approved thing - remember the wolf farms? Remember adding TIMERS to farm missions. The Devs have over the years made many changes to stop farming and then they add "content" that is a farm...............
  11. You see the entire idea of this "content" has me baffled.

I see people saying well it is harder therefore it requires more skill. Then they say well it only takes 30 minutes and you don't have to finish it to get the reward.

I look at Hero Merits, they require 2 days to complete and 11 missions and yet the reward for that is LESS than the reward for a 30 minute trial.

Risk versus reward or farm versus actual varied play?

Having the trials unlock the other slots makes sense. I mean we run the Mender arc and we unlock our Alpha. Then we can run ANY content and progress towards your first incarnate ability. I can run the weekly TF, do AE missions, do a regular TF, do tips, do mission arcs and get shards or run trials which I can exchange for Alpha content.

In the new stuff I have 2 trials that I must farm to progress. The Devs have went out of their way to make any earlier rewards difficult to exchange for the new stuff - but the new stuff can easily exchange for the old stuff.

So is this the goal to enforce farming? Is this our new direction? I would seriously like to hear from a red name on this subject - since the loss of Castle and Bab's we rarely hear a word and when we do its marketing. How about some word on what the plan is?

Risk versus rewards and Time versus rewards. How about we get a chance for an Incarnate salvage drop for a mission arc completion? Morality mission completion? I mean I put far more time into a mission arc or Morality completion than I do for a Baf or Lambda. Perhaps I am just not getting it but the rewards used to be commeasurate to the time/difficulty in this game.
  12. I recently tried leveling another one up to 22 just to see how fast it was.

I did exactly what I recommended and it was fast - very fast.

Howling twilight is not up every group - when it is use it
  13. Sorry network hiccup caused double post.
  14. It is without any doubt whatsoever - Fire/Dark corruptor.

    You can run at level 10 - 0 x 8.

    Get these powers:

    1. Tarpatch
    2. Rain of fire
    3. Howling twilight
    4. Fireball
    5. Fire Blast
    6. Darkest night
    7. your heal Twilight grasp

This isn't the order you can get them it just is the powers you need.

To play - Run forward put darkest night on a group and turn a corner, drop tarpatch and wait until they are on it - use Howling twilight to stun them and slow them - drop rain of fire - fireball and clean up with blast.

Slot rain of fire, your heal, howling twilight and tarpatch until you are 12 with recharge only.

You will burn - pun intended through the enemies like nothing you have ever seen. You will be 22 getting SO before you know it.
  15. It needs to be random, period.

Then you also allow for the TF merits you get to also allow you to buy Incarnate salvage and this would include having them listed on the Hero/Villain tips rewards - I mean 11 missions over 2 days is harder than a 30 minute "Trial."

The same with mission ARCs - I just did the Roy Cooling arc on my stalker and it took several hours to finish - why not give me a chance to get salvage if the arc is within the level range for a Incarnate reward.

In my opinion this was made far more difficult than it needed to be and as always simple is better. Open it up make it more player friendly and everyone wins.
  16. 1. I would change the ENTIRE Incarnate system after the Alpha slot.

    2. I would make the further powers all based off of either shards or threads and not both.

    3. I would allow you to save TF reward merits to cash in for salvage or threads

    4. I would use the trials to unlock the slots similar to how you defeat the Trapdoor arc to unlock Alpha.

    5. I would have threads/shards drop in normal play. I would have mission ARC completion offer a random chance at salvage. It is MY mission arc I had to work through it and in some cases arcs are longer and harder than TF's.

These things allow for all of the playstyles people like, you can farm trials, you can do mission arcs, you can run TFs and advance. You can solo or team and all of it advances you.
  17. Most amusing.

So not only do I have to farm a dev approved farm to get further incarnate powers - I have to do it in their way to get the reward!

    Wonderful.
  18. City of Dozers

A City where all you do is drive around with construction equipment and tear down or build up stuff!

Like a Pyromaniac in a field of strawmen I will burn this notion down.

To get these incarnate rewards you must run multiple times the same 2 missions.

Any other path would take you YEARS of game play. All of the other content is wide open to be played for all other purposes and drops shards if you are 50 and have your alpha unlocked.

On one hand all of the entire game - on the other hand 2 missions that take 30 minutes and must be run 20-30 times. Run little strawmen run but you will still burn.
  20. I got your answer to Random Rewards too!

If I run 2 Trials/WST in a 24 hour period I should be able to bank those as a TF Credit and roll for a Rare/Very Rare just like I can for Rare recipe.

It uses the same reward plan we already have you just add another field to the Merit Vendor.
  21. What fools these mortals be, make 10 new costume pieces and announce a PvP dev.

The new PvP dev doesn't actually DO anything - they just get a title.
  22. Infernus_Hades

    Uh...

I still think Lady Jane is Fusionette's mother................
  23. Arcanaville, it is just a farming system nothing more.

It could be for all its worth Fire Farm #xxxxxx and it is just a Dev approved Farm system. In the past City of Heroes let you get credit for whatever YOU want to do.

The math says the new system is no longer like the old game. I can get shards doing anything - even sewer runs with a bunch of level ones. To make a Baf or Lambda a gate would be fine - we run it and it unlocks just like the Ouro Alpha missions.

I did not have to farm that contact mission however beating Trapdoor 30 times to get my alpha. I could run a WST, any Tf and any content even street sweeping and get shards. Now we twist the game into a narrow path and say - this is what we say is now fun.

What needs to happen is either shards or threads goes away. I don't care which, it is stupid to have mixed currency. Then make it a gate to run the Trials and get the shiney unlocked. Once you do that let you run anything you like - yes even Fire Farm xxxxxxx for your enjoyment.

Want to add another chance to get a Hami O for winning a trial? Great idea - but limiting gameplay in this manner is NOT good for the long term health of the game.

    USB Error

The trouble you may have is that USB devices pulse - some gaming mice pulse as often as 600-1200 times a second! The logitech G500 mouse refreshes 1000 times a second. What I have found is on some systems it sort of blows over either the Windows or hardware response.

Try taking a look at Control panel - administrative tools and event log. Check both system and software. Sometimes you can see something in there. You can also try updating or reinstalling your motherboard chipset drivers.
  25. I actually joined a kill every living thing and scorch the earth afterwards ITF.

We actually didn't get any lag at the top of the 3rd mission. We had slight lag at the bottom but I was pulling the top down and 2 taks were seperately pulling the bottom and we were meeting at the bridge and slaughtering it all.

It was a wild ITF took 2 hours and not one single minion was left on any map and I got 12 shards!
