Problem solved?
I re-installed CoH... It didn't help.
I installed SP2 for Vista 64. Still crashed.
I unplugged both monitors, and plugged them into the other slots, on the same cards....
The game is working now. Can anyone explain this to me? I'd like to know what's going on here so I can deal with this better in the future. -

Once you've done that, if the problem persists (And it really shouldn't as the updates to Windows and the video drivers have supposedly rid us of these types of crashes) there is a thread near the top that deals specifically with this type of an issue.

I downloaded what the Nvidia site told me to download for my card, and installed it, it didn't help. Honestly, the Nvidia site was a little weird, I'm not entirely sure what they gave me did much good at all. Looked like some generic feature upgrade, but I got it from the "download drivers" section, and did what they told me to do, so not sure what to do there.
I did un-install my display drivers, and then re-installed them, still having the same problem.
Sometimes the game just crashes and I get the message "Display driver stopped working and has recovered" With the sub text "Display driver 'kmmmnmmnkmnm'* has stopped responding and recovered" (*I don't recall the exact letters used, but it was a lot of Ks, Ms, and Ns, and only those as I recall.)
Other times, the screen goes weird, gets red lines on it, and the whole comp crashes. So far this has happened ONLY with CoH and nothing else. -

In the past I have occasionally gotten the "display driver stopped responding" message while playing CoH. For some reason, today it's happening constantly. Earlier it happened, I logged in, flew around a couple more minutes. It happened again, game crashed. I logged back in, zoned, it happened immediately.
Now it's been happening constantly, I'm lucky if I can log into the game and zone in, if I do, it just crashes. I've tried installing driver updates, I've tried looking at the NCSoft Support page and doing what it asked me to do. So far, nothing has worked.
Most of the time I get "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" Message, but sometimes it just outright crashes my entire comp forcing me to do a hard reboot. I can't think of anything I downloaded recently that could have given me a virus, I'm totally at a loss here. Anyone know of anything like this, or how to fix it?
I run dual monitors, (Have been for a couple months.) on a GeForce 9800GTX+ Card. I actually have two of the cards, but they aren't in SLI mode at the moment, so I don't know how much of a difference that makes. -
It is. I haven't been dissapointed in an issue of this game for a long time. Some issues had less for me than others, but I can't remember the last issue where I said "wow this issue made me disappointed." I'm not sure I've ever had that problem.

You're entitled to your opinion I suppose, but I think that's a pretty outlandish thing to complain about. Also it's still not getting cut in half, it's being put into 2 parts to make it a little easier for people to do. And they are revamping some of the content. You are at best, ignorant of the changes your complaining about and at worst purposely stretching the truth in attempt to give your argument more credibility.
Lastly, making something long doesn't make it fun. The positron IMO could use some more "fun factor", being long and tedious doesn't make me want to play it over and over.

Monstrous faces, that didn't all look like rabid hedgehogs (Yes, a bird's head could be a monstrous one).
A back pack - that did NOTHING!!! but was there to see, at the time dismissed because of animation problems - well there's several in game now, not to mention the purchasable one, plus wings, which all cope rather well.
Movable hair, or flowing hair. Not a favourite of mine but it was highly requested.
On top of this there has once again been a failure to allow villains access to the shadow shard or a lvl 50 contact with unlimited, non-timed missions. I understand we all got excited with the content for both heroes and villains to play together, but CoV has definitely suffered neglect over recent issues content-wise. 5 minutes in the MA could solve this problem, then we move it on to the live server...

Honestly, it's kind of hard because I was a little too focused on the TF to spend all the time reading. Some of the clues go away after you get the next mission, theres a lot to read through and it's hard to put it all together while going through the TF. I'm going to have to go through Paragon wiki and read about it all. It's terribly fascinating, original and wonderful lore. I'd really love to see the other zones and more content for this area. Aside from Praetoria, I think this is the most drastically (And tragically) under utilized lore of the City of franchise. -

It gets very little traffic and making it a co-op zone would increase it's use.
I either suggested or supported this idea when it was suggest before. Honestly, it was so long ago, I can't remember which but I think it came up in a QOL (Quality of Life) Zone discussion.
It's kind of sad that the base Mission Computers can't even give you the broken Cathedral of Pain mission. From my view point, it would be good to be able to run the Cathedral of Pain mission even if it didn't allow your SG to have a IOP (Item of Power). I really think that the Mission Computers should give you other missions that are specially related to SG teaming.
I can understand why the DEVs might not want to do this, but there are so many SG's that won't play with non-sg members that they might as well set-up some missions for the Mission Computer.
According to Paragon wiki, that was the reason CoP was pulled offlline. Seems a simple fix to remove or fix the mission but who knows.

He's not, and never was. The Cathedral of Pain Trial had "Aspect of Rularuu", which used Ruladak the Strong's model.
Rularuu the Ravager is, literally, too big to fight. The combat engine simply doesn't support him correctly. It even has trouble with the Jade Spider that heroes face in Mender Silos' TF, but Rularuu is even bigger. A while ago Castle was experimenting with large targets on the Test server (using the giant MekMan model), but we haven't seen anything come of that, and we don't know if he got any results.
Now, as for why I don't think the Shadow Shard should be co-op: I think we've got too much co-op already, and I find the trend of "make every new zone co-op!" annoying. I realize that making zones co-op makes them accessible to more players, but frankly that argument has held little water since CoV and CoH were merged (since any player can simply make a character on the other side of the game), and it will hold even less water once GR arrives.

I'd say that villains need their own four Shard zones, all to themselves. One of them would need to be a beachhead, similar to FBZ. That would leave one remaining zone/aspect not assigned to either heroes or villains: this, I would make into a co-op or PvPvE zone (the latter being PvP via PvE action akin to capturing pillboxes in RV or PvP missions in the other PvP zones, rather than direct conflict)
Edit: If you look into the game's files (which is against the rules and you absolutely shouldn't do it), there are powers assigned to Chularn the Slave Lord (PFF and some Psy blast attacks), though he doesn't show up anywhere.
Give Villains access to the shadow shard, in one way or another. Either Co-op zones, or not. Though after GR comes out, the point is completely moot. Either way, Zones should be open to all ATs.
As for adding new zones for the other aspects, by all means.
As for him being too big for the combat model. I don't care. Put the combat box on his head and I'll fly up to it to shoot it.
There is a phrase floating in our culture now. "Too big to fail" Well Rularuu the ravager is "Too cool to be excluded" put his *** in the game where I can shoot at him and I will do so.
Frankly all of the shadow shard is too cool to be half done. After learning about the lore of the last week or so, I feel it is at best, half done. They need to expand this piece of the game and give us all the chance to take on that baddy.

Cimerora, is in Rome. Paragon Wiki says so, Official City of heroes site says so, the roman badge says so.
Also, the Immunes types, don't look like any real spartans I've ever seen depicted. Spartans from the movie 300 maybe, but real spartans had head to toe armor, the most advanced armor of their age. The 300 Spartans did not hold out on Xerse's army just by skill alone, they had some fantastic armor to help them out.
So there you go. Roman Peninsula. My guess is, around the time of the real Romulus Augustus, this is the City of * Version of his story. -
This isn't a new idea by any means but I'm going to talk about it anyway.
So I just got done in the last couple days running my first two Shadow Shard Task Forces. Starting with Faathim the Kind and then I did a Sara Moore just a bit earlier.
Reading through the clues, and the text for each mission from the contacts, I've gotten a much better understanding of whats going on in the Shadow shard and honestly, it's just too friggen cool for words.
The story, the idea, Rularuu and his aspects.. All amazing, who ever came up with that stuff has got a fantastic imagination and the art, the style, it's all fantastic. The aspects, Faathim, Ruladak, Lanaruu.. All gorgeous characters and they are tons of fun to look at and fight. Some of the unique maps are amazing, the zones themselves are all gorgeous.
Simply put, we need more.
There are 4 or 5 more aspects not in the game, and I want to fight them all. Seriously, there is so much that can be done with this set of zones as far as missions, TFs, more zones, Trials etc. It's just fantastic and honestly I feel like the Devs could do another paid expansion after GR just for SS stuff.
I feel they should open it all up, make it all a co-op zone, (I could easily see this as something Lord Recluse would be interested in having his chosen ones being a part of for his own gain.) And develop it further. Not just adding missions, but add task forces, more contacts, and a couple new zones. I'd love to see the Cathedral of Pain as it's own zone.
That brings me to Rularuu. Up until earlier, I had no idea that Cathedral of Pain was Shadow Shard related, and that it had Rularuu himself in it. I didn't realize Rularuu himself was actually in the game.
That said I looked him up on Paragon wiki.
OMG! That's all I can think. He looks amazing, he's the biggest GM in the game and he's bigger than any of the current AVs, and he looks like he'd be tons of fun to go after with a team.
I know Cathedral of pain had a broken mission and the whole item of power thing didn't work out quite right, but it needs to be fixed and re-added, or they need to do something else with Rularuu because he is too damned cool to be sitting on the back burner of the server hard drive.
Honestly, I'm more blown away by the SS than I was before, I can wait to do Justin Augustine and Dr. Quarterfield, I just really want to see more of this fantastic idea brought to the game. Use the other aspects, use Rularuu, get more maps, give Heroes and villains a chance to explore this entire world of the Shadow Shard.
Just my 2.5 inf worth. -

Granted I thought it was strange at the time since up until today I thought I:17 would be after GR. But chalked it up to him planning just that far ahead.

I understood what I just said perfectly. I also however stated that I am not a graphics card expert, which is why I asked the question.
From what I saw on the wiki site, it seemed the two cards were comporable. However, looking at your site I saw data that either wasn't on the wiki, or that I simply didn't see. Either way, the clock speeds on the 9800GTX+ seem faster, though I get the feeling that's not the really important stuff.
Still, will having 2 of these cars make a difference in COH? That's what I'd really like to know. -
Well since we are asking.
Does anyone know how a Geforce 9800 GTX Plus will fare? I've looked it up on wiki and it's obviously better than the 9800 gt which posi mentioned, and it even seems comporable to the higher GT 200 series cards, but I'm not a Graphics card expert.
Also, I have 2, linked Graphics cards. Anyone know if that helps for City of Heroes, or does CoX only use one at a time? -
My guess is this.
Come end of monday or beginning of tuesday, TV and Dr. Aeon call some sort of truce\tie\alliance to set down their fighting and join forces etc, and then state that "Content" and "Ultra Mode" will be released together as GR on the test server for closed beta.
Just a hunch.
I honestly can't see the Devs relying on this forum contest of who can rally the most supporters to determine what is released first. Entertaining as it is, it just doesn't smell right. The marketing department won't let them say jack for months, but will let them be like "Yeah play some silly games on the forums to determine the next thing we release, that's fine."
Doesn't compute for me. (I support TV just in case.)
Also, the way TV mentioned his "Content" seemed suspiciously like he was talking GR content for me. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how it came across..
I'm thinking\hoping that come Tuesday we will have GR to test.
I was at the Con. I did the loyalty thing, and I intend to pre-order GR the very moment I find out I can. I look forward to getting in there and bug hunting the beta. After I get done Squee-freeming my pants. -

I think internet ads are really the way to go for an MMO anyways, since you can click on the button and then, within a few minutes, be downloading a trial. CoH has been absent from a lot of pages lately though (inc. PennyArcade, I believe) but maybe they are saving their advertising dollars for their new product. When GR really gets rolling they'll even get reviews on major websites like IGN, where a game like CoH barely gets any press these days.
Also, have they tried to get the PA guys to do a mission architect arc yet? Those folks command an army of affluent zombies.
Anyways, I fully expect to see a news update today or t'morrow or, at worst, next week (from Ocho's post, he seemed to imply the news item could slip from this week, meaning it was probably always meant to be a late week announcement).
So I don't know how intentional it was, but in season 1 of chuck, in at least two different episodes while there is stuff going on at the Buy More, one of the end caps in the store is completely filled with City of Villains boxes. Since Season 1 of chuck started in 07 and CoV was released in 05, It's not like the game was brand new and Chuck wanted to use it to grab attention.
Also the game is in the back ground, (but it's very clearly CoV) so I was kind of wondering if the makers of the show just picked something random that they could put on store shelves to make it look real and ended up with CoV on that endcap that shows very clearly.
On the other hand, maybe the CoX marketing department is just that good and has been sneaking their product onto primetime Shows and no one notices since it's all subliminal.
Perhaps we should ask The Television. -

This is what they're working on right now. OF COURSE they're basically silent. Don't take their attention away from it. We want it done faster, not slower. The more they talk on the forums and the more interviews they do, that means the fewer meetings they're going to, the less time spent animating, the less time poking at code, etc. etc. etc. You don't want that, do you? I know I don't. I want them doing their jobs, not appeasing the masses with a pithy remark.
All I was saying, is this feels like that calm moment before the storm. The Devs are throwing little tidbits our way and buckling down at they gear up to start announcing and going crazy with info and hopefully beta, etc.
Though at this point my money is on Beta After the Valentines event, but we shall see.
Perhaps I will be surprised, they will use the Valentines event to keep all of those of us who aren't invited to closed Beta distracted while the closed Beta begins. Hard to say. -
True. But there was at least SOME chatter the last few weeks since the winter break ended. But the last few days there has only been like 1 or 2 posts by the Devs.

I've noticed Dev chatter seems to have slowed the last couple days.
There have been a few announcements in the news, but nothing major or unexpected. Most of it pretty light stuff. Valentines event, contest winners etc. Nothing big really.
I'm getting the feeling that some big stuff is about to drop.
Or maybe it's just wishful thinking. Hard to say.
I'm a little disappointed, I was pretty sure at hero con they said beta would start by january 2010. Maybe I remember it wrong, or there is always the possibility of delay.
Still though, I can almost feel something is coming. -

In fact the devs said at hero con, some people who exist in Primal Earth, won't have to exist in Praetorian earth.
Further more, their is no reason that Joe Bloggs or the Clockwork King has to be psychic in Praetorian earth. The factors that made him psychic in Primal earth, genetics, random chance, what ever, don't have to have existed the same way in Praetorian earth.
An Alternate universe does not have to bare any similarity to other universe's. Further more, even if their were some similarities, at the time when paths start diverging, new possibilities open up and new impossibilities form. At the point that Praetorian Marcus Cole, Kills his brother in law, it is no longer possible for him to become lord recluse and take control of arachnos.
Their might be another guy who takes control of Arachnos and calls himself lord recluse, but it won't be Cole's brother in law.
In an alternate universe, their is no reason to believe anything has to be the same or even similar to this universe. And Joe Bloggs may have had an inherent psychic ability in Primal Earth, but he doesn't have to have it in Praeotorian earth, he could just be a nobody.
Also, the clockwork in praetorian earth, we already know were built by the Praetorians as a work force so that people didn't have to do menial jobs, they said as much at Hero Con, this would indicate they don't have the same origin as clockwork on primal earth. -
