Quote:Yup! That's half the reason I love it. Like I said earlier it was the ammo swapping that really sealed the deal for me. They really seem to be putting an effort into making each new set have one small different gameplay gimmick so that it'll completely warp your character.Yeah, I agree that the devs are doing a great job.
The newer powersets like Dual Blades and Dual Pistols are also introducing new gameplay tricks, like combos or ammo-swapping. Both of these would require some additional code, but in my opinion are well worth the effort. They're nothing game-changing, but enough to make each set feel fresh when you play it, and not just some different animations and damage type tacked on to the same framework.
This is a really good time to be playing CoX.
Even shields kinda did. I saw it as a very offensive defensive power set. Yea you got some defense and resistance but if you just sat there the mobs would slowly (or sometimes not so slowly) take you down. Instead of additional defenses you got Against All Odds and shield charge so you could take them down before they get you. Really made taking my scrapper to 50 a breeze. -
I recently returned from a break that was at least three months maybe longer and I just wanted to congratulate the developers and give a spot for other people to post some great things they've been seeing. What brings this up? You may have guessed it, dual pistols.
I've been waiting for this set ever since someone mentioned to me on the boards 3-4 years ago how awesome it could possibly be. When I heard we could have access to it I tried so hard to resist but I ended up watching some of the animations on youtube. The temptation grew a bit more; the animations were just so freaking glorious to watch. Lots of gun twirling and body movement just like my imagination assisted by many watchings of Equilibrium (one of the best pistol weilding thriller movies ever!) had conjured the set up to be.
But it was still a shooter set so it was still gonna be lethal damage right? It wasn't long till I found out I was wrong. The ammo swaps called to me. No more mindless button mashing. I could see myself switching ammo on the fly in the middle of fights to take multiple enemies out.
Well it wasn't long till I paid the money to get it early. I'm now at level 9 and having the time of my life.
But the real reason I made this thread wasn't just cause of Dual Pistols. This is a trend I've been noticing in the past couple issues with powersets. Dual blades, shields and some other new ones that I can't remember have all been designed to be very unique and not just carbon copies of another set with a different weapon. Dual blades also sported very cool animations that I liked even though I know everyone didn't. Also power customization and weapon customization were really great. I know when I was taking my /shield scrapper I had tons of fun stopping in icon once every few days to switch my shield.
So I just wanted to say thanks for doing great devs and I can't wait to see what kinda cool stuff you guys come up with in later issues. Post more cool stuff you want to say thanks for here if you want! -
Haha well knock yourself out with a spreadsheet if you must. I know I personally love gravity well. It's pretty much the only real good single target damage I have on my guy. This may turn into a problem if I ever start trying to solo EBs but for the time being I like it.
As for sunless mire - My reasoning behind it is that with 2 recharge enhancements plus Hasten, it's up so often that it doesn't really need to be saved. I can't say that I use it for only one guy like Lord, but if there's a least 3 guys then I'll use it since it'll be up in around 45 seconds again anyways. Also, it gives time to make sure Inky Aspect has sunk in properly so I don't run a risk of Getting caught in Nova form with my pants down.
So far my biggest weakness tends to be that while positioning myself for Nova's cone I tend to back into another mob. This only happens maybe once a day but it's not pleasant. -
If you think sunless mire is wasted on a small spawn on 5 guys then what exactly do you think of as not a waste? Unless you're hearding two spawns together you're not gonna get a bigger spawn then that since this is solo. Also, the Mire often carries over for the first bit of the next spawn.
I'm only level 37 right now. When I'm 38+ I plan to probably spend more time in nova when I have eclipse up since Nova has such better damage and Eclipse should give it more than enough survivability. -
Hey guys,
I'm looking for something to do with my second build for my WS. Also, besides that, I'm just intereasted.
Everyone builds their khelds so differently and slots them differently that it seems everyone has extremely different strategies. Depending on slotting I see some people rely on mezzing, some just rely on pure DPS, some rely on just lasting longer. So can everyone try to post their strategy for typical mobs and mention what kind of Kheld you are? I can go first so you see what I mean:
Triform Warshade
Solo spawn:
Made up of 4 minions and 1 LT typically
Activate Inky aspect and shields -> Put gravity well on LT -> Single target blast LT till Inky Aspect disorients the minions -> Sunless Mire if available -> When Gravity well is close to ending, Use Gravitic Emenation -> Switch to nova -> AoE -> clean up what's left and use Stygian Circle
Boss Strategy:
I don't have much of a boss strategy. Single target blasts in human -> Go nova -> Hover outta melee and blast him till dead (usually means I gotta use a couple insps)
Teams:
Run in with inky -> Use sunless Mire -> Gravitic Emination (If I can make sure the knockback won't mess up the team too much) -> Go nova -> Blast anything that even thinks about moving
My solo strategies really depend on having minions in melee most of the time. So what do you guys do? -
Quote:I'm not against improving builds exactly. My problem is simply that I've seen too many games where "the best build" becomes "The build that everyone but noobs must have."Thanks Darkstar. You said it 100 times better than I could have. I get rolling and hit ressistance and go right into rant mode and start tripping over my own points.
But to me it really does seem like this section is so hard core against improving builds for fear their not nearly as effective as they could be that I'm just stunned into disbelief.
Seriously whats the downside to finding the best builds and making them known?
I've played games where people get kicked from teams because they decided to build their character the way that they want and people get angry because they're not doing exactly what the team wants. Even if the team is performing perfectly well.
Even in this game I had that problem. My very first character ever was an Ice/storm controller. I was around level 14 or 16 and I still had no idea how the game really worked. My most used power was O2 boost...:-( Well one day I got invited to do Positron. The team wiped on the very first mob and then the team leader started yelling at me for not using Ice Slick. I informed him that I did not have ice slick thinking that he should of bothered to check my powers before assuming that I did. It ended in me getting kicked from the team and getting more nasty tells from the leader.
Then later I was playing WoW (Yea, I know, I'm sorry, it was a mistake please don't judge me) and I decided to make a rogue. The FOTM rogue was what was called a "Mace Rogue" but I decided that I didn't want to be FOTM so I made a "Dagger Rogue." Later I had some trouble with something and I mentioned on broadcast that I felt that Dagger Rogues needed a bit of a buff cause they were underperforming. The response I got was "Well you should be mace" which completely ignored the fact that I didn't want to be mace and I wanted to use sweet daggers. In the later levels I started having to defend my build more and more until it finally got so annoying I just stopped playing him.
I think that ED was implemented in this game because of how much people were starting to just simply make cookie-cutter builds and the devs wanted to support individuality. In fact, the thing that keeps me coming back to this game is that individuality that is promoted. (well and also the willingness to make players able to make asthetic changes without altering actual function of things).
So I guess to be brief, I don't want this game to start trying to force people into a certain build just because people think it's got better numbers. I'll admit, I'm probably being paranoid and it's probably not ever gonna happen anyways.
Now, one last thing. I do notice a lot of posts on kheldian forums asking for build help. And they always have a decent number of replies so I think that what you're asking for is already kinda happening.
Also, I've heard it mentioned several times that we're not "getting the word out about how awesome Khelds are" or something along those lines. I have to disagree. I think that LOTS of people know that warshades are pretty much demigods. I don't exactly hear about PBs a lot, but it seems to me that any time people bring up being just generally amazing, WSs always seem to make it into that discussion. It's one of the reasons I rolled my WS after having HEATs unlocked for about 2 years (Yea I know my reg'd date isn't that long ago, I switched accounts recently) and muscled through the slow low levels to get to the high levels of love.
I feel like I mighta babbled a bit. Sorry about that. -
Quote:Playerbase unwilling to do the work and research required? Dude this is a game. You can do all the work you want. Personally I'm gonna do what ever involves having fun. Having to go and do a lot of research just so I can make an adequate macro to change forms agravates me to no end. This like everything else isn't a problem with the Kheldian AT it is a problem with the playerbase unwilling to do the work and research required. Could it be more easy to find? yes. could it be built in? sure. But this isn't the main Kheldian problem.
True, in the end I did do it, but I still took the lazy route and simply copied someone elses macro. Now I would not normally have a problem with this, except that many other games have used and explained macros in a much more adequate way.
For the brief stint when I played FFXI I enjoyed their macro system. You hit macro, and it'd pull up a seperate window with tabs for powers, actions and everything. Say you want your boost to activate four times in a row after recharging. you don't have to type a thousand dollar signs and all that jibberish. You simply clicked the command for boost, clicked the command for wait, input the time, clicked the command for boost again and so on a so on. Also, you could activate a power, then have the system send you a tell or such after 10 seconds saying "Boost is ready".
Now, admittedly, you could also make a character into a bot in FFXI so they obviously got that part wrong, but in my opinion they did a very good job of making their macro system easy to grasp. I would love to be able to set up macros to send me tells telling me that my tier 9 will crash in 10 seconds or that I need to refresh shields.
I think it would certainly help players if we got a pop up screen with premade commands and you just had to fill in the blanks for exactly what you want. -
I agree with LordXenite. You (Obsidian) say that it's a bad thing that kheldian boards encourage people to pick their own things and just have fun with their characters. I personally think that this is a great thing.
My kheldian could be a fairly good controller with some fairly good damage output. Or my Kheldian can be a good tank with slightly below average damage and control.
My kheldian could be a good scrapper with some tanking ability.
My kheldian could be a great AOE'er with moderate defense.
Most people tell new guys to just build what they want because most new guys don't really say what they're trying to make. They just say, "What's a good build for a kheld?" and expect an answer. It seems from your posts Obsidian that you value dps very greatly. However I personally value survivability and not wasting my time saving up for purple IOs. So if you handed me a build I'd probably ignore it because I want different stuff from my build.
Like Lord touched on, I think that a lot of the problem stems from having only one powerset combination that is huge compared to other ATs. For a controller if you want lots of control you take earth/storm, if you want lots of damage you take fire/kin, and so on and so on.
With a Kheldian, if you want more control you slot your human control powers more. If you want more tanking you slot your dwarf powers more. Want more AOE damage? you slot your nova powers more. There's tons of combinations.
I will throw this out there though:
I think that one of the reasons khelds aren't as quite liked is that people don't know how to use macros. Not everyone looks on the boards, in fact, I'd assume that a large majority of people don't. I think that if there was a bit of a macro tutorial when you choose your first form or something it'd help greatly. It would also be nice if it was repeatable by talking to your initial kheld contact. And lastly. I would like a seperate window to make macros in with preloaded stuff so you don't have to know how to type everything in. This would make khelds a lot more new player friendly in my opinion -
Ok here's some thoughts I have on kheldians (I'm just gonna throw them out there in no particular order):
1) To echo what someone already said, don't expect them to be epic in their power. Khelds are a lot more complex than other ATs. Everytime you level up and choose a power or slot powers you're gonna have to weigh pros and cons of everything. This is especially true if you go triform.
2) PBs tend to be a bit more scrapperish. They have high damage attacks and lots of self heals to keep them alive. In my opinion, a solo PB really hits its stride right around level 18 when you get Incandesant Strike. Also, PBs utilize a lot of knockback so try to get used to using that to stay alive.
3) WSs strike me as more controllerish. They've got more steady mez, less damage in the beginning, but they can really hit some impressive highs in damage. For me, my solo WS hit his stride around level 28 when he got Inky Aspect to keep minions mezzed and stack with Gravitic Emenation to mez whole mobs.
4) Don't get turned off by the initial 18 levels when you're getting your butt handed to you by quantums and voids. It sucks horribly but both PBs and WSs get holds at level 18 to deal with them.
5) Even if you don't plan on being triform try out the forms. They're not for everybody but they can be really good. Use keybinds and you might learn to love them. Don't use keybinds and you'll wonder why everyone else is crazy and has them.
6) Soon as you hit around 15 or 20 transfer about 20 mil over from your main and sink it into two -KB IOs. Once I got rid of that soft mez I found that it really wasn't that bad not having mez protection on my guy in human form.
EDIT: the quantums and voids never spawn when you're playing another AT. In the earlier levels about 1 will spawn per mission. Latter on you'll start to see 2-3 per mission but this happens about the time you start to laugh off quantums and voids.
Also, if you like blasting you should definitly take nova form. It makes the first 20 levels fly by on teams. It's really impressive to see the amount of AOE damage a nova puts out at those low levels. After that blasters start to catch up and you're not quite as cool. -
Yea the fires is something that I think about specifically. The main reason being that I feel for every single GM that spawns in a given day, there is at least one fire in steel canyon.
It happens so freaking much and you really don't get much from it. Yea, the badges are nice and all but that's pretty much all you get. I love fighting the fires and actually find it quite fun, but once I get all the badges on a character it becomes simply, "Eh, I'd rather do something I can actually get a reward from"
Even if you just get 1/50th of a merit for ever fire defeated that would be nice. I know it took me a pretty long time to get my second badge which I believe was 50 fires so I don't think it'd be gamebreaking or anything. -
Yea you could easily avoid using nova. I sometimes to when I feel the mobs are going down so fast I don't need it anyways. But, a WS seems to have it easier using nova form than a PB because of all the stuns. So when I'm playing solo, if I get the whole mob stunned then I go nova and put out some sick AOE damage.
As a side note: When I want to double mire I do Human Mire -> Dwarf -> Dwarf Mire -> Nova -> AOEs
this gives you enough time to get off both AOEs and another attack. I'm not sure if this is the way you do it or not. Your way sounded different and I was wondering why. If it's to take the alpha then I could understand, although inky aspect and gravitic emenation usually make sure that The mob isn't gonna hit me while I'm in nova and then most of them are wiped afterwards so I can do a Stygian Circle after I drop nova to recover the health from the alpha. -

Hey guys,
I don't really know if this is possible to do but it's been bugging me for a while. If merits are awarded for doing time consuming things such as story arcs and also for defeating GMs why aren't they awarded for stopping invasions and such since they are also like GMs.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that after every fire firght I should get two merits, it should still be time consuming. What if each fire destroyed gave a part of a merit. So something like when you help kill a fire you get 1/25th of a merit. Then after 25 fires you get one merit.
I'm not sure if this would be doable or not because I'm not sure the award system was ever made to award a part of something and build up on that. Here's some numbers I was thinking.
25-50 fires = 1 merit
100-200 zombies = 1 merit
100-200 rikti = 1 merit
8-10 Paladin constuctions destroyed = 1 merit (I can't remember how many constructions there are. basically should be one full encounter)
I think this would keep it so that they don't award quite as much as the GMs and such but they still give us something.
Disclaimer: I apologize to any events that I may have forgotten. Your exclusion was not intentional. -
Quote:Aw man, that is so awesome. I've been dieing to have a whip for so long now. I just hope there's also a chain whip to choose from in the costum editor.Someone asked about whips at the Comic-Con panel...and Posi (if I remember correctly) said something to the effect of "If you like whips, you'll like the demon summoning powerset."
So yeah, between BABs and Posi that seems to be the only confirmed bit about demon summoning so far -

Airplane pose would be hilarious. Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrreeeeeeeeeeee!!! Coming in for landing. Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrroooooooooooo!!
[/ QUOTE ]
Haha, I agree, and to be honest I was just fishing for another pose that could be added in addition to the other one.
Something else that I think they should add is a surfing style, so you can fly on a board or (for the love of all things superhero) an ice slide. It would still be flight, but your "flypose" would be the same position used for the Prestige Power Slide. This would also provide a good venue for expanding travel power costume pieces. People could get "Flight Disk," "Tech Board," or "Elemental Boards" as recipe drops. (Surfing could also work with Super Speed come to think of it, but this topic is based on fly).
[/ QUOTE ]
Ok I'm not gonna lie to you...I freaking love this idea. I could just see a craftable back costume piece that's something like a disc and when you hit fly your guy quickly reaches around and grabs it, throws it on the ground and flys away.
Course that might be too much. I'd also go for boots that expand into something of a board after fly is activated. -
If you solo a lot I'd suggest putting off stamina so you can get Against all odds.
Personally I kept shadow punch until I got Midnight grasp slotted up.
While running solo you can usually manage to just use one shield and not use the status protection unless needed.
Personally I didn't take stamina until a respec in the late 20s or early 30s and didn't mind one bit. I solo'd most of the time and never really felt like I was going extra slow or anything. In fact, I often felt like I was going too fast haha. -
I agree. I've been wanting the pose for flying straight up to be my forward flight pose for a while. Glad to find someone who agrees.
Airplane pose would be hilarious. Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrreeeeeeeeeeee!!! Coming in for landing. Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrroooooooooooo!! -
Well so far I find that I can very quickly kill a guy while in human form. I also find that I could use a little more AOE. Often I can AOE from nova and get the spawn down to where it looks like about one more good AOE would finish off the minions.
I'm thinking my plan is to get Unchain and slot it up, then when it's up, use Inky Aspect, run in, kill off a minion quickly with gravity well and the high damage blast (that usually does it maybe one more blast) and then explode him, then go into nova and hopefully polish them off.
How long is the recharge with 2 recharge SOs? I think the base is somewhere like 4 or 5 minutes which seems really long but if I take it and slot it up will I be able to at least use it a couple times a mission while solo? -
[ QUOTE ]
You can change the fly pose?
[/ QUOTE ]
yea, you gotta type /em flypose1 or /em flypose2 etc. I think there's 4 of them unless I'm mistaken. It helps if you put auto run on before you do it since you have to be actively flying at the time.
I rarely take fly but when I do use it I almost always change the flypose, as already said they're pretty cool and I like em all better than the default. -
Since I16 will include new animations for Super strength and Martial Arts anyone else think that one of the things "to be announced" is being able to choose a different flypose to always be used in place of the default one?
I beleive that I remember when they first introduced the fly poses that they said they wanted to eventually make you able to just choose a new default. Plus as it is I think there are a lotta people playing out there that have no idea you can change the flypose.
I know I personally don't know even half the emotes I feel. -

I think a snipe power is possible. Have the blaster take out a single pistol, aim at the target, rotate his head and neck in a circle before firing: ala Danny Glover in the Lethal Weapon series.
[/ QUOTE ]
If they do that I'll get kicked from every team I'm on cause they'll all get tired of me saying "It's just been revoked!" after every snipe haha. -
I've never heard of that. That's intereasting. Thanks. Should make it easy to get off unchain in a fight.
-
One thing I was wondering, is unchain essence gonna be a little more popular now?
One of the big excuses I heard for not taking it before was that it was hard to target the dead body and then most of the mob is dead anyways, but I can see this being different when solo with the difficulty cranked up.
Course the recharge time is still really high which sucks. Just wondering if anyone might plan on taking this power now. -

I'd think that 'hunting down the monster' is part of it being well, a monster. It's not like they're hellions and parked on every street corner. I'm not one for making the game any easier than it already is. Typically, someone will already have spitted the spawned GM, and all it takes after that is a broadcast. "Paladin seen south-east of X marker."
As for the "Raid finished in Skyway" or any other notice that's broadcasted, there was already a similar notice that went out notifying the community that "A raid is in progress" or warning "civilians to get off the street" for the Rikti raids. You have to notice them.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes I know that there's the notice that goes out at the begining but my point is that it's not all that noticable. I'd greatly appreciate a specified window or something where you can see any monsters, raids, invasions that are currently going on. But yea, I don't think the devs are really gonna do that.
As for finding the monster. I play on a laptop and as a result I turn a lot of the settings way down. I don't normally see spawns until they're rather close. So yea, I can run around and try to find the guy but I do feel slightly handicapped.
It's also just silly that they don't tell us where the monster is. Personally I don't think it'll really make the game "easier." I don't think it'll by any means make one able to farm merits from GMs or any of that nonsense. It'll just make so that people like me who are trying to fly around half blind don't have so much trouble.
I mean, if you lived in New York City and you saw a giant punching in buildings and wrecking havoc you'd probably notify the police so that spiderman can come do his thing. But would you call and just say "Hey there's a giant stompiing around New York. Thought you should know." Or would you tell them exactly where the guy is so that they can dispatch him quickly?
If you can provide a really good way that this'll imbalance the game and make things easier than I'll understand. But I don't see making it easier to find the monster imbalancing. You still gotta have a team and actually fight the guy. -
That's true, but I just don't see any reason why we shouldn't have markers for the GMs. The only reason I can really think of is that it might be extremely hard for them codewise and I'm only saying that because it seems that the most random things are hard to change because when they first made the game they weren't expecting to have to change anything.
Another thing I was thinking about was making something like the Scanner or perhaps and extra option in the scanner to see what GMs or events are currently taking place.
I don't know about you guys but I know I often see "Raid finished in Sky way" or "Rikti retreating from Port Oakes" or some other such thing and I think to myself, dang, If I had noticed that when it first popped up I woulda totally gone and laid the smackdown on some stuff.
Just seems to me that it would make it easier for people to pick up little things to do in between missions and such. Course, I can see the devs not wanting to do this. Not sure why but it seems like something they wouldn't want to do.
