Merits for firefighting, rikti invasion, zombies, and stopping paladin

Hey guys,
I don't really know if this is possible to do but it's been bugging me for a while. If merits are awarded for doing time consuming things such as story arcs and also for defeating GMs why aren't they awarded for stopping invasions and such since they are also like GMs.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that after every fire firght I should get two merits, it should still be time consuming. What if each fire destroyed gave a part of a merit. So something like when you help kill a fire you get 1/25th of a merit. Then after 25 fires you get one merit.

I'm not sure if this would be doable or not because I'm not sure the award system was ever made to award a part of something and build up on that. Here's some numbers I was thinking.

25-50 fires = 1 merit
100-200 zombies = 1 merit
100-200 rikti = 1 merit
8-10 Paladin constuctions destroyed = 1 merit (I can't remember how many constructions there are. basically should be one full encounter)

I think this would keep it so that they don't award quite as much as the GMs and such but they still give us something.

Disclaimer: I apologize to any events that I may have forgotten. Your exclusion was not intentional.

don't you get badges for stopping the fires? surely they could add on something that when you earned the badge you'd get some merits. Wouldn't keep you going forever, but it'd give another reason to do this.

same with zombie invasions, Rikti maybe not so much, since if you're high enough you'll get Vanguard merits anyway (of course, that doesn't stop you getting both for LGTF, so I'm cool with it either way) and Paladin constuctions? I'd be happy just to find one :P

@craggy see me on Union for TFs, SFs (please!) or just some good ol fashioned teaming.

There are three sites if memory serves me correctly. Whilst I see this as good for zombies and rikti invasions, I can't help but thinking it would lead to camping and griefing for the other two.

I could see the Elites from the invasions giving 1 merit. Since the Elites tend to be spread out enough that you wouldn't fight too many of them.

That was another thing I was considering.

Personally, I'd like to see some more reward being given to things like the Steel Canyon fires. The event can KILL you, yet you get nothing in return? Come on!

Three badges, work towards Hellspawned, XP if you're low enough and fighting the hellions.

Given that an Ice/Ice Blaster can pretty much break the whole thing, it might not be such a good idea.

Which is great if you're a badger. If, like me, you think badges (with the exception of power-granting accolades) are basically a waste of time, what incentive is there to run the encounter? For that matter, if you already have the badges, what incentive is there to run the encounter? I'm inclined to agree that there should be more to the Steel Canyon fires than what's given. Heck, even a concrete finish to the fire event would be nice. That way, you could finish with a "Good job! All these people are safe thanks to you!" rather than just "Um... Are we done? I don't see any more fires. I think that's it... Good job, I guess."

My story arcs: #2370- Noah Reborn, #18672- The Clockwork War, #31490- Easy Money

Sartre once said, "Hell is other people." What does that make an MMO?

Yea the fires is something that I think about specifically. The main reason being that I feel for every single GM that spawns in a given day, there is at least one fire in steel canyon.

It happens so freaking much and you really don't get much from it. Yea, the badges are nice and all but that's pretty much all you get. I love fighting the fires and actually find it quite fun, but once I get all the badges on a character it becomes simply, "Eh, I'd rather do something I can actually get a reward from"

Even if you just get 1/50th of a merit for ever fire defeated that would be nice. I know it took me a pretty long time to get my second badge which I believe was 50 fires so I don't think it'd be gamebreaking or anything.
