It gives me great pleasure to announce that the celebration of the 5th Anniversary of the Avant-Guards and Blackguards of Liberty Server are on for Thusday August, 13th through Saturday, August 15th. The reputation of the AGBY events has grown some through the years. Members get questions quite often about when the next anniversary celebration will be.
The AGB takes this opportunity each year to celebrate what makes our SG family great by sharing with the rest of Liberty Server some of the love and respect that they experience as part of the AGB family each day. In so doing, we honor the great Guards who have gone before us as well.
Folks from all servers are welcome. We hope that you will come and join us.
For more detailed listings of the events, please visit our Calendar of events at the AGB's home on the web http://AGB.guildportal.com
Also, if you have any questions about the events or the AGB itself, please feel free to post to our forums or email us at webmaster@theavantguards.com

I will try to help, Gr33n. Once you have the time and date set, Feugan or I can plop it on the AGs calendar and see if we can get some other Avant-Guards to show up for the effort as well.

Choose it to be three sets of colors for three separate voices within one character. You cannot do this.
Choose the border to be a different color at any time. Could you do this before, yes, Can you now, no.
Choose to change the size of the text. Could you shoose to do this before, yes. Can you do it now, no.
Choose the styling to be different in your binds and or macros. Could you do this before? Yes. Can you accomplish this now, no.
Again this is not just a good idea, it is something that has been wrongfully taken away and I would like to see it addressed.
People's ignore lists do not concern me.

Further, the choice to eliminate any HTML coding capabilties has eliminated the ability to load key binds from files and not have the keys with color bindings show the code instead of the appropriatesly styled text.
This decision broke that functionality. Start a new character, save the clean virgin set of keybinds of the new character to keybinds.txt, and then reload them with the controls in options. Hit your F7. You will see what I mean.
This problem is well over a year old now, and is being ignored.
I mean to give it exposure in the location that I see as appropriate. If anyone has a problem with that, my sympathies.
I will say this as clearly as possible.
I am not going to be begging for this like it is something new in Suggestions. What I will be doing is addressing this as what I see it as, a request of Development to no longer ignore this and arrive at a solution to an issue that was created when functionality was BROKEN.
Any players may say anything further that they wish, and I will not respond, but I will not stop talking about this until it is addressed as an ISSUE.
Thanks,

Thankyou for your input Texas justice. While I respect your opinion on the matter, my interpretation of the description of the forum is not the same as yours. I will point out that this forum resides in the "Development" section. Are you "Development"? I don't think so, so this forum being in the "Development" section would seem to suggest that the forum is about what? ...thats right... Development.
I do not believe as you do that this forum is merely for players to correct each others issues as you suggest. Now whether or not it is looked at or payed attention to by the "Development" team is another matter, but this is the best forum, in my understanding, that fits.
I consider this a technical issue regarding something that exists or existed that needs to be corrected, and not as much a suggestion for something new that needs to be created. This is not a just a good idea for something new. This is exposition of something that has gone wrong with "Development's" decision making process, and that to me is an "Issue". An isue that should, I believe, be handled in the "Development" section of the forums.
This is something I consider to have been broken that needs to be fixed.
As for the other courses of action you suggest, yes those are being pursued as well.
Trust me, I am not thick, just determined. you are free to ignore the thread at your convenience if it disturbs you. The thread however is "Functioning as intended".
Best,
-=ICE=- -
The OP is perfectly aware of the choice of forum placement.
This is not a suggestion for new functionality. This is exposition of a mistake in taking away old functionality.
See?
Taking away this control was about stopping spamming right?
Well this change did not stop the spam did it?
So the spammers have doubly wounded those of us just trying to enjoy our game. They get social features nerfed, and still get to spam.
For the record, I have been, am and will continue to be angry over this creativity nerf .
Time for another bump of the old bring back the chat bubble color control thread. -
All icky parts of this thread aside, I wanted to give it a bump to the top and put in $.02.
Just measuring results, looking at turnout for the one event of Gunnr/Eng's that I have attended and seeing the RV in Liberty taking on new life on a more daily basis, I would have to say that these efforts seem to be paying off.
The use of courtesy and professionalism in the organizers language used is improving, and things are moving in a good direction.
I would like to thank Gunnr for stepping up and Eng for throwing in with him to really move and shake this thing a bit.
Kudos.

This was a good event you guys. I believe the AGB members on both sides of the fight had a pretty good time. I like to see the zone events more than arena personally, so this one was right up my alley.
Bravo. -
Well whadda ya know? Good old Wynde. I actually ran into this old salt in Recluse's Victory this morning before I read the post, but wanted to drop a word here as well.
This guy, on his tanker Northwynde and ICE-Transhuman were the ice armor/ice melee tanker duo (no you probably will NOT see many of those) par excellance in Sirens call back in the day.
If he is unfamiliar to anyone, this is a great guy, and I am happy to see him return.
Welcome Back, Wynde.

Ooooh, I will try to make some channel room for this one. Good thought, this.

Since customization of characters is a focus right now, please don't forget that character customization was seriously damaged by the loss of chat bubble control over "Border Color", Background Opacity" and "Text Scale"
Please note that something valuable was taken away, Dev Team.
Since customization is the focus of the latest Dev Diary by BAB, I want to bump this again as a reminder that this needs some TLC.
What was taken away was a real loss to some of the player population in terms of character customization. I have characters with multiple personality issues that I will not play again until I can make those personalities have their own voices again.
Can we see some attention to this? -
Please bring back chat balloon control.
-
Since I13, for the last six months the player community has done wtihout control over some aspects of chat balloons and text formatting that were widely used.
These are border color, color opacity, and text scale.
Can we see the return of these functions please in the form of sliders in the options screen similar to the text color and background color sliders?
This is not a game where we can hear. We have to look at a chat balloon to get a sense of what someone sounds like.
Border styling is widely used in graphic novels to signify the way a character sounds.
Scale or text size is clearly indicates when someone is shouting or whispering.
Opacity could even have a limit to how transparent it will allow the user to make any of the elements, say 75% to maintain readability. Slider controls for opacity should be applied to all three aspects.
Some method of building the specific "VOICE" of the character into binds and macros for one button catch phrases also needs to make some sort of return.
Since the departure of those aspects, my ability to convey characters' personalities and voices has been diminished, and I would like to see a solution to this please.
Thanks for your time,

I agree with Positron about preserving the integrity of the game.
I really get a bit of a sick feeling when I play things straight and and see folks get the same rewards I get for doing a tenth of the work (or play as it were). I do have a tendency to skate uphill on certain things however, believing that my journey makes the destination all the sweeter, and that my reward includes not only the easily seen shiny, but a good deal more. That generally does prove to be true.
I also agree with what some here have said concerning "not feeling that gaining crafting progress from base salvage conversion should be thought of or treated as an exploit". (Is that what we are talking about Positron?) Much like many, I don't want to think of myself as a cheater.
I will state that I have felt a bit conflicted about this. My super group is old, and we had a lot of spare base salvage like many groups. There are probably a lot of those pieces sitting on characters in our group too. Even at the rate of one to one however, I noted that converting almost our entire stores to salvage was not going to get me to the badge, and the rest of the group was not going to see ANY benefit to their own characters other than the salvage stores. Something does seem wrong in this area.
What I think might put things on the level as it were, and also potentially satisfy 'some' folks in this is a compromise.....
Let the base salvage conversions accrue crafting badge progress at a diminished rate? A rate that might take some of the sting of "Crap, those badges were supposed to be hard to get!" out of it for development, but also make the actual crafting "WORK" (yes players ARE expending time and effort here to help do away with the dead weight of base salvage that Development has decided to streamline out of the flow) count toward something it really "OUGHT" to count for? 2:1? 3:1? 5:1? There has to be a mathematical mean here that is fair to everyone and still preserves game integrity.
That is my $.02. I hope someone is listening. -
Positron's progress bar just bumped up.
Good show, sir.

Positron and Development Team,
Thanks for the communication. This is very heartening, and I for one appreciate it very much.
I appreciate the indication that correcting problems caused in the last Issue launch are taking precedence before rolling out new content. That makes sense. Stacking on more problems in order to focus on getting content out without correcting old problems does not.
While many of the bugs that you refer to are not game-killing by themselves, there is a point (and it is different for every one of your clients most likely) at which the pile of niggling issues does become game killing. They become unpalateable and unacceptable when taken as a whole. (Think straws and camels)
The last two months were almost at that point for me personally. The jury is still out for my part. I will just have to wait and see if your actions match your words. I really do hope there is congruence.
It matters.

Jay, this is both a programming request and a Quality of Life request, but it pertains to costumes, and the lack of this refinement in our system is something that I also consider a bug since it is essentially a user experience design flaw, so I am logging it here as well as other locations.
We need a function that saves the SG mode color settings on a "costume slot by costume slot basis". When I change the SG color settings for costume slot 1 (and click a presently non existant "save-these-settings-for-costume-slot" button), the settings and or changes should not affect previous choices made for costume slots 2 through 5.
We've needed this for four years now, and I appreciate any consideration you can give to this matter, as well as any assistance you can give to help direct this to more approrpiate ears as is warranted.
Many thanks in advance! -
This is, for all intents and purposes...a long time coming.

* Guild Description: Many long months ago, there was a tanker named Tina M. She was a avid and colorful member of a super group called the 7th Legion. Due to events outside her control, it came time to begin a career as a new heroine. On September 12th, 2004, The VelvetGoodnight was born. In that first day, she befriended an ice tanker named ICE-Transhuman. In that first day of attaining their first ten levels, a decision was announced by Velvet to begin a new Super Group.
On September 13th, 2004, she formed The Avant-Guards. Clad in their black and white, with their eagle insignia emblazoned on their uniforms, the AGs hit the streets in style, and rode a wave of growth into a long and colorful Super Group history.
In the time since then, Velvet has left the heroing and shepherding of this City of Heroes to her beloved Guards, and in her stead, left ICE in charge. For well over a year now, ICE has led The Avant-Guards. They have remained strong in comeraderie, loyalty and laughter while sharing a love for a great game.
For a long time, The Avant-Guards have been what I consider to be one of the "best kept secrets of Liberty Server". We keep that secret no longer. We are here, we are strong, and we are very good at what we do, and that is a great many things.
Our super group is not just about leveling, or PVP, or raids, or role playing or badging....our members pursue their own loves about this diverse game and culture. At the same time, we are allowed the priviledge of enjoying the company of mature fellow players of this game who have a deeply held respect for one another. We are artists, and poets, and programmers, and mathemeticians, and all other manner of walks of life. All are welcome regardless of age, or gender or sexual orientation or anything else. As long as someone plays to the best of his or her ability, does everything possible not to get other members of their teams killed, and are fun and respectful people to interact with, there is probably a place for them in The Avant-Guards. What matters are the bonds of friendship formed between people with a heroic spirit, who right the wrongs, and do it in style, even if it IS only pixels.
In the end, what is best about this game for The Avant-Guards are the human connections with fun people who enjoy the super hero genre.
To learn more about us and the basis for the way The Avant-Guards operate, I encourage you to read The Avant-Guards Manifesto .
Are you one of us, waiting to join?
