  1. And when you run a billion+ worldwide corporation you can make that decision.

Just because a few people FEEL like they are being treated badly doesn't mean the entire player base feels that way. Heck I was glad we got a 90 day sunset. I was glad I got a refund on my Paragon points purchase and subscription. I was glad I kept my VIP status after my sub time lapsed.

NCSoft could have truly been jerks about it and closed the game on 9/30 if they really wanted to. They could have made accounts lapse into premium. They could have taken the forums down on 8/31. They could have done a lot of things that would have been much worse. So no I am grateful for the time I had with CoH, and the time/treatment after the announcement.

  2. Just because you do not like the explanation NCSoft gave - does not mean they did not give an explanation; nor do they owe you any further explanation.

They said they are changing their focus to other games - that is their explanation. They have no moral obligation to say any more than that. Just because people feel an emotional attachment to CoH does not mean NCSoft should have to hold your hand and soothe your tears - they are a worldwide business not some Mom & Pop store that has serviced a small community for 20 years. Maybe if people could stop and see NCSoft as a business instead of personalizing them as an evil entity to be "defeated" they would realize that they are owed nothing more than what they were given.

They do not need to hold themselves accountable to you, me, or any other CoH players. It is JUST a business no matter how much you want to personalize it. They stated their reasoning; people are just unwilling to accept that it was a business decision...and not a personal attack against you or anyone else. Sometimes businesses make decisions that affect a small part of their customer base; knowing that if they lose them it is still an acceptable loss. CoH was a SMALL part of NCSoft's overall customer base. The closing of CoH has not hurt NCSoft financially as can be evidenced by the massive amount of players who HAVE moved on...a lot of whom have moved on to other NCSoft titles (I personally know of 7 very large and very active guilds in GW2 represented by various servers of former CoH players). So you see: Acceptable loss - a simple business decision. They didn't destroy your home...they didn't murder your community...they closed down one of their games to focus on other products they think will bring them MORE profit; ya know what businesses need to survive....

FYI If you HONESTLY think NCSoft's stock prices have been influenced by CoH you are completely wrong. There are so many factors which go into the valuation of their stock...and no blog post or hashtag is making a bit of difference in those valuations.
  3. I love that real musicians still exist. Music has always been a hobby to me since I was very little; violin and piano mainly. I enjoyed your musicality but agree that sometimes the music/instruments overshadow (drown out) your vocals. Overall though I enjoyed the song and your performance
  4. He hasn't posted on Titan for 6 days either........ Just saying.

  7. Wow just noticed RWH did a lil over $7,000 last year....
  8. I just wish all the incarnate slots had been out before the game closed; so I guess in turn that would mean more itrials and the Batallion as well.

Aside from that I got no issues with how/when it is going.

    Favorites

    1. Looking back, considering everything, which was your favorite archetype in the game?
Corruptor. I loved dealing damage and buff/debuffing. My main toon is my Fire/Time Corruptor: I Burnt The Toast. It is my badge toon and my GO TO toon for TFs/Trials etc.

    2. In possible contrast, when it comes to your favorite character, what kind was it? List AT and the two main sets.
I have always enjoyed playing my Earth/Kin Troller. I love the sheer control feeling of earth. Granted there were better damage trollers, but none felt as fun as I Wanna Rock You.

    3. What AT did you evolve to enjoy over the years that you disliked initially?
Dominator. Initially I thought they were just meh; especially since they had no self heal, debuff, etc... About a year ago I leveled my Earth/Fire/Fire dom (I Drunk Dialed My Ex) to 50 and loved it ever since.
  12. Same

I miss playing CoH but do not have the time and/or energy to waste in any future endeavors regarding it.

  13. I love that people think CoH has much...if any...impact on NCSoft stock. CoH represented such a minuscule part of NCsoft. When NCsoft stocks go back up (look at their trends over the years...this is quite common with them) who will take credit for that?

BTW I hate the people who are crying out against Blade & Soul...for their costumes - have you seen some of the costumes people have made in CoH - NOT very family friendly. If you wanna bash Blade & Soul go right ahead but at least bash it for something that CoH was not guilty of as well...skintastic boobilicious costumes.
CoH may have been rated T for teen...but that didn't stop the pedos and ERPers from infiltrating this "family friendly" game

  16. Only one thing from your post confuses me:

    destroy this online community
Is the community destroyed? I thought the whole point of the Titan stuff was to maintain the community? It can't be both ways..the community can't be destroyed AND thriving in the face of adversity.

The whole "NCSoft is murdering/destroying the community" stuff baffles me. How can the community be destroyed if it is supposedly this strong machine of fight etc etc? Granted yes the community is not as big as it was 2 months ago...is that what you mean by destroyed? I mean the game has seen much larger losses in the community in the past but yet still thrived...right? I'm not being snarky I just don't get the two differing points that I see thrown around - the community is destroyed and the community is strong and resilient etc...

Me personally?? I don't think NCSoft destroyed the community... I'm not a big "community" person but I am speaking about MY community of friends.. we still go on as a community. All you are doing is giving NCSoft power by saying you LET them destroy the community. Then again I don't see NCSoft as destroying the game either...they ended it...but destroyed it?? Nah CoH will always be the best MMO in my opinion and I refuse to let NCSoft's decision destroy the game for me.

People offered their critique of CoH, citing it as brave/bold reasons why CoH may have deserved to be shut down and counters against why NCSoft was not the devil.

What I replied with was an attempt to show that citing these reasons (beyond not being bold or brave at all, I mean, c'mon, heehee), is reversing blame.
The game wasn't shut down because they did this or that wrong (that we know of... it may have been, as someone else has mentioned earlier, something personal... we have no real idea about those particulars... regardless), the game was shut down because NCSoft realigned their focus. This awesome game, this active community and all the reasons why everyone was here was simply collateral damage to whatever reasons they had.
All of this could have continued, under another financial umbrella if need be.
Whether or not it is "right or wrong" has no bearing on whether or not we dislike it.
There's no reason that brings us betterment for its sudden, unexpected closure. And that's fine.
Trying to come up with supposed justifications for this is simply assigning blame to the product (sometimes even the community) instead of simply leaving the blame where the truth points it to.

It's fine. NCSoft is clearly willing to take the blame. So, no need to defend their decision. They decided to axe it, axe the Paragon Studio employees and destroy this online community. Nothing evil about it, but that doesn't make it a good thing and that doesn't mean that anyone has to like it.

So, again, all I did was reflect back what the person I quoted had said.
They were basically comparing the game to perfection and pointing out that it didn't match up, therefore... we can all see the reason within NCSoft's decision to end all of this.

    Eh... not so much.

    Devs moving on

The teaming in this game is what made me like it so much. Seems every other MMO HAS teaming available if you look fo rit, but it's mostly a soloish type game. This is one of the main reasons I didn't/don't really like GW2. I hate soloing...which is probably one reason I loved CoH so much - there was always the ability to team; made even easier with exemplaring and the super sk system. I loved the itrials....the league feeling was fun to me and felt very epic.. heroes/villains uniting together to achieve one goal (for varying reasons).

The problem comes in when the anti-socialists that come to escape their real-life anxiety flock to the game and think they should have it tailored to their personality quirks. I'm glad the devs stood their ground on this issue and continued creating end game content based on teaming and leagues.

Guess it doesn't much matter now though does it

I hated soloing. I hated soloing so much that when I would have to do my patron arc and none of my friends were capable of going red side...I would simply auto complete a mish every 3 days...yeah I hated it THAT much. Thankfully once GR hit my friends all had toons that were Vigilantes and that was never a problem again.

I believe that how things that don't "matter" are handled is a good indicator of how things that matter will be handled.

If having a solo path that was equal to the team path would detract from the team path that means that those people who moved on to the now equal solo path were not in the iTrials for the teaming but merely because it was the path of least resistance. Why not let teaming stand on its own merits instead of browbeating the community into it. If it was fun people would be doing it. If you have to coerce people to do it a redesign might be in order.
  20. Yeah that would be WAY over what most people have guessed at the profit based off information gathered. WAY over; like more than double. The best cost analysis I seen figured approx 2 million profit in 2011 and would have been the same for 2012.

The player base is 1/3 what it was 3-4 years ago. CoH in 2012 has had approx 50-60k subscribers. Looking back over the sub numbers that is almost 1/4 the number we had at our peak. Just because I say CoH was sloowly dying..does not for one minute reflect my opinion about CoH; which was that it is the best MMO out there.

BTW on a side note: People who even think that NCSoft was offered 80 million for CoH are delusional. NO company is going to pay $80 million for CoH. It would take 40 years to even break even at the current profit rate. Heck even if CoH made 5 mill profit a year... that's still 16 years! Come on people....Common sense is your friend

I still believe, rightly or wrongly, that the game was making $5 mil a year in profits, if not more, before the closure announcement. Mind you, this is all based on hearsay and conjecture, from the things I've read and heard.

Should those turn out to be true, anemic wouldn't be the term I'd use.

  23. I am assuming that someone will be able to help set up etc etc as I would be a complete NOOB to it LOL! I would actually rather be the cohost with an experienced DJ as I would be kinda nervous out there solo on my first go around :P I mean I could come up with some songs etc...but would like to do a "Coffee Talk" kinda show with someone else who is experienced. Is there a way to see if that is possible? A way to "choose" which DJs would be willing to co-host?

I am really interested in this btw LOL!
