The Wentworth Country Club and its many friends and supporters proudly announce the

We invite the City of Heroes community on all servers to come together
once again this holiday season in support of this player created charity drive.

Thursday, November 1, 2012
- through -
Saturday, December 15, 2012

Please join us for a variety of fun events aimed at promoting awareness of the charity drive
within our City of Heroes community and beyond. A list of these events is included below
and will be updated as new events are added. Visit RealWorldHero.com
for additional updates and information throughout the charity drive.

Over the last three years, City of Heroes players have donated over $29,000 to charity through the Real World Hero charity drive! We're very excited to see the community come together once more to help those in need, and judging from an onslaught of emails we've received, you're just as excited as we are! Not familiar with Real World Hero? Well, read on heroes!

With your support, RealWorldHero.com will aid the following charities this holiday season and 100% of your donations will go directly to these non-profit organizations.

  • Child's Play - A community based charity grown and nurtured from the game culture and industry. Since it's founding by Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins of the online comic strip Penny Arcade in 2003, Child's Play has donated more than $9 million dollars in toys, games, books, and cash for sick children in hospitals across the U.S. and the world. (Tax ID 20-3584556)
  • Donate Games - Founded upon the belief that people can change the world by simply donating their unwanted video games, Donate Games is a charity dedicated to funding research and support for children and their families of “orphan” diseases and the millions of Americans affected by them. Donate Games collects new and used video game donations and then resells them online to help the millions of young people suffering from these neglected disorders. (Tax ID 26-3438815)
  • Operation Gratitude - Sending over 100,000 care packages annually filled with snacks, entertainment items and letters of appreciation to U.S. Service Members deployed in hostile regions, their mission is to lift morale, bring a smile to a service member's face and express to all our armed forces the appreciation and support of the American people. (Tax ID 20-0103575)
  • Heifer International - Heifer International works to end the cycle of chronic world hunger and poverty and protect the earth. Through gifts of livestock, training and "passing on the gift," Heifer has over thirteen million families in more than 125 countries around the world improve their quality of life and move toward greater self-reliance since 1944. (Tax ID 35-1019477)

Kick-Off Party

The opening party was mild compared to pasts years because Mr. Wentworth and others had problems staying connected due to the interference of Hurricane Sandy. Still, enjoyed a couple hours with a good crowd under Atlas Statue in Virtue AP33. (Click images for full size.)

Special thanks to DJ Angelica who gave regular shout-outs during their show on The Cape Radio!

2012 donations

as of 8:00 pm PST on November 2
$120

Check out the auction! So far there are over 50 items from City Of Heroes and beyond.

Went to do some biding and when I do bid it is not showing my actual bid it is showing $.50. Is that normal?

Posted

Yes. It increments in amounts of .50 above the current bid. That way you don't have to be bidding every minute.

If you put in a bid of, for example only, $100 for an item and the current bid is $2.50 it will list your bid as $3.00 and it will keep bumping the amount up to keep yours as the top bid unless someone bids over $100. If I were to bid $10.00 on that item it would still show you as the top bidder with a bid of $10.50 currently.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.

Thanks! first time bidder = noob

No problems.

I think it worked slightly differently last year as well.

IIRC my winning bid on the hat ZwillhelastatEAthistine donated was $50.01 so it wasn't $0.50 increments.

I have a question regarding the 90 Minute Live Radio Show Of Your Own. The description says: 90 minute live radio show, with 60 minutes of additional recording time available that can be heard on the replay, on Blog Talk Radio. The winner will be able to have a radio show on any subject (no sexual content please) or just play their favorite music (they will also be able to pick songs to be played on the show).

So does that mean that I would be like a Co-DJ? If that were the case I would be interested. I always wanted to become a part of the various "Radios" out there but never had the chance due to RL.

Any more info on this would be greatly appreciated

*shrug* Your guess is as good as mine, I Burnt The Toast.

Sadly I am not directly involved in the Real World Hero charity event auction, so I can't answer any questions concerning individual listings.

Please contact the event creators @Mr. Wentworth and @Sultry Siren via info@realworldhero.com with any questions. They are good about responding pretty quick. If you don't receive a reply by Monday gently prod them a second time.

Hi all! Mrs. W and I are indeed still around on the boards. I had been planning to make a nice big post for Real World Hero this evening, but saw that Llydia had beaten me to it. Thank you! I would have done so sooner, but we spent a good part of last week making sure that some good friends were getting some support after Hurricane Sandy and that put us behind in our RWH promotion efforts. Not to worry! With such great help from everyone in the community things just have a way of getting done around here. Right?

So, Llydia, you are now the defacto thread updater and I know we can count on you.

Things are a little different this year, naturally, but we are determined to continue on and have felt the support of quite a number of our fellow heroes. The auction is indeed underway and has over $200 in bids with 6 days remaining before bidding closes. We are indeed working on additional revelry to share time with you in game and promote Real World Hero to any friends who have not yet heard of what it is.

Most importantly, we want everyone to know that the charity drive is not ending on November 30th when the servers go dark for City of Heroes. As terribly sad and upsetting as it is, we hope the Real World Hero charity drive can continue on and do good for a long time to come. Bring Real World Hero with you into whatever game or community you may find yourself and let us know where you are. We hope to find welcome among the broader world of gamers and invite them to take part.

Let's make this a really great time of fun, good works, and community! We won't have spiffy gold titles anymore, but we will always consider you all to be Real World Heroes! (with a little invisible title floating just above your heads.)

I can help with this! The live, online radio show is 90 minutes live, but an extra 60 minutes can continue after you go off the air, making a total recording time of 150 minutes. You will be the host of your own show and can include co-hosts and have call-in guests as well, if you choose.

I am assuming that someone will be able to help set up etc etc as I would be a complete NOOB to it LOL! I would actually rather be the cohost with an experienced DJ as I would be kinda nervous out there solo on my first go around :P I mean I could come up with some songs etc...but would like to do a "Coffee Talk" kinda show with someone else who is experienced. Is there a way to see if that is possible? A way to "choose" which DJs would be willing to co-host?

I am really interested in this btw LOL!

Yes, there will be a show producer helping out with all of the technical things. They will be able to explain everything you need to know before you do your show (if you're the winning bid ). I'd suggest you invite someone you would like to have co-host with you. Blog Talk Radio isn't associated with any of the in-game stations in particular, but that doesn't mean you couldn't invite a DJ from your favorite station to co-host with you. You can be creative with it and make it fun!

If it were any server other than Virtue ...

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Aw, play nice! You won Zwillinger's hat last year. Please don't knock me out this year, too.
