Instead of making them "destructible" make the "collectable". Then the firebase won't shoot at them.

One thing you ignore about the difference between someone doing MA content and someone doing dev content are temp powers and accolades.
While seemingly trivial, these can make a HUGE difference in the effectiveness of two otherwise identical characters.
AFAIK, there's no way to duplicate these in MA. -
I wish there were better tools to monitor temp on the GPUs in your system.
Also, you can set up CoreTemp so that it creates a temp log. No need to constantly alt-tab to it. Just play until you hit a crash, then go ogle your logs.
Also, if you have something like this (crash reboot), hop into your BIOS and check the reported temps from the motherboard monitors in there. While it's VERY hard to get accurate results off that, occasionally you can catch a nasty overhead on one of the on-board thermal sensors before the system can cool down again.
And, as I said earlier. Try memtest.
Crash to desktop or lockup/loop-crashes, I can see that being just the game.
Rebooting your whole system? I have a bad feeling about this. -
Ah-HA!
It's called a "bathtub curve". Unfortunately for you, if the new stuff is okay, you likely bought a "bathtub" that had a rather large rectal spike in it.
At least you were able to find a culprit.
Also, if you successfully test both sets without error, you're likely to have a bad DIMM slot or controller. -
How late did you actually get on? I left at about 12:30 AM (Central) on the 29th and it was still going on, on Protector.
On Test, just after Midnight (Central) it has essentially finished in Pocket D. -
What he means is that, if there's going to be graphical updates, new systems, etc, that it just be rolled into CoX. Not spun into a new game.
While I find the graphics options in CoX just fine, the VQ junkie in me still sits chained inside screaming "MOAR! MOAR! MOAR! I KANT SPEL!"
I'd have no problem with a system that used the top-end of what we have now, and then scaled up to "Make your Quad 295 SLI setup scream for mommy".
Retrofitting it into the game would take several years at least. Allowing greater evolution of graphics cards so the baseline would still be easily attainable. -

Being a part of a hero group taking on 8 Kronos Titans at once was epic!
Happy 5th!
[/ QUOTE ]On Protector, we call that Tuesday.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wednesdays are 10 Kronos, 4 Babbages and whatever else we can find

Unless Badge is there. Then triple everything. And triple it again for good measure. -
Doctor: So what was it? Troll?
SuperTank: I'm Level 50!
Doctor: A SupaTroll?
SuperTank: *Angry Glare*
Doctor: Demon Overlord? Ring Mistress? Praetorian AV? Lusca? Hamidon?
SuperTank:.....
Doctor: What? Speak up son so I can help you!
SuperTank: The GM...hit me with...a forklift.
Doctor:
SuperTank: Stop laughing! And get up off the floor! -
This hasn't happened for me.
However, I've seen accounts of crashes wiping stuff like this before.
If I'm allowed to make a WAG about it, I'd suspect that, due to the STUPID loads on the server during events like this that when the client "burped", the server hadn't yet properly logged all your achievements in yet (they were sitting in an I/O buffer that was wiped when you crashed out or signed back in). -

If I were you, I'd run a Memtest on the system. Also, pull out a copy of CoreTemp and see how warm your CPU is getting.
If you're crashing all of the sudden like this, I'd do this to make sure the new components aren't the culprits.
[/ QUOTE ]
Core temp idles between 43 and 45 degrees Celcius, and runs between 50 and 55 while in the game. The highest I've seen it go has been 60 degrees while alt-tabbing between windows and opening multiple browser windows with CoH in the background. The processor is rated to get to 71 degrees Celcius before it starts throwing crashes. I also made sure to get a heatsink that was rated appropriately for the processor with high CFM airflow.
I'll try running the memtest while I'm out running errands this afternoon, but again, I haven't had any problems with anything other than City of Heroes.
EDIT: Now _Jets_ on the other hand sounds like he's got a definite overheating problem. I'm getting crashes to desktop; he's getting complete PC reboots.
[/ QUOTE ]
Agreed for _Jets_. Or a slightly underspec/defective PSU that's bombing on high current draw.
Your temps look fine.
Question, how current are your motherboard/driver controller drivers?
If the answer to the above is "fairly current", and the Memtest comes back fine, it's probably something in-game. (See "You Are S.O.L. until they patch). -
Yeah. Forget cats and dogs! On test IT RAINS BUS STOPS!

I'm sitting on a Quad running XP-64, 8 gigs, and a GTX260 in a case ventilated by 4 120mm fans and a 60mm fan under the motherboard tray (plus the CPU cooler).
I got a LOT of crashes yesterday. But I spent 14 HOURS in-game. And it was probably some of the absolute HEAVIEST fighting I've ever seen on the game. 6-8 Kronos, a few dozen Zeus, and dozens of Malta Quantums and Sappers within a half-block area.
Not to mention 30-50 people at my back...
Ironically, most of the crashes came during off-peak times (when I wasn't fighting). -
[ QUOTE ]
Yes 8 Kronos Titans, an army of Malta, all lead by Black Scorpion was one of the coolest things I saw during the 5th Anniversary.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah. I saw that too. And I saw the ground... A LOT! -
I rubber-banded a little. MOST of what annoyed me was the "lazy trays", where the button/shields wouldn't size-cycle properly due to all the action in-game.
And it didn't change if you lowered the detail or resolution either.
I'm sitting on a 2.5Ghz C2 Quad with 8GB of RAM, hard drives with 32MB caches, and a GTX260. During Rikti and zombie raids, I get just enough server lag that "/target_enemy_near" grabs foes that haven't "beamed" in yet but zero frame droppage.
Fighting in the midst of 6 Kronos Titans, a few dozen Zeus Titans, and a horde of sappers and Quantums only caused rare frame-skips.
I actually found that it was during quiet times that my client seem to want to loop-crash (frame freezes and a short part of the sound-byte loops infinitely until you get the report dialog or manually shut the process down. -
You got to see a lot of stuff on test that you would rarely (or never) see live.
The Nemesis Mole Machine.
All the Longbow-skinned "Corruptor", "Dominator", etc models.
I could go on... -

The Dragon and cohorts were camping the hospital... I swear my poor level 50 regen scrapper never died so much in her life!
[/ QUOTE ]
So were the Honoree triplets. And the CoT AVs. It got invaded by the Cimerorans a time or three as well.
I'd hit (Hospital), res in, and immediately fall over before I could even get ONE of my defensive toggles on.
**EDIT**
LOL! I just looked at #4 and noticed I'm almost dead center of the pic in my monkey suit!
Sweet! -

Was that just announcement that there was going to be an event as a whole
[/ QUOTE ]
It announced the event.
[ QUOTE ]
or did it describe the AVs/GMs being spawned everywhere and only lasting a few hours?
[/ QUOTE ]
It didn't specify WHAT the activities were. But they DID specify the timeframe.
As has been said. The reason this was time-limited as it was, is because you had real people at Paragon Studios custom spawning the mobs people were fighting. Keeping that going for 24-48 hours is...unrealistic.
Also, the load on the servers would have been absolutely evil.
[ QUOTE ]
Either way, people missed out on it
[/ QUOTE ]
No matter WHEN they set the event, people were going to miss out on it. Through various combinations of work, family obligations, premade plans, girlfriend/boyfriend aggro, or any of the zillion other minutae that comprise "real life", SOME group of people were going to miss part or all of the event.
[ QUOTE ]
and they should have this event again
[/ QUOTE ]
They will. Next year. See ya then!
[ QUOTE ]
so everyone can partake in it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Equity is nice and all. But stuff like this is a case of "you snooze, you lose".
Would *I* have been ticked if I'd missed it? SURE! The only reason I was able to be there for the whole thing was I'd asked about the anniversary a week-ish ago. Then I was lucky enough to be able to make plans to be there.
Otherwise I would have missed out on several hours of supreme beatdowns (both mine and my enemies'").
You now know the date for next year. Stick it on your calendar. -
No problem man.
Watching quoting turn it into a text wall was just too painful to leave be. -

Why pay for a game and subscription to just rush to the end anyway?
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm probably not the best one to ask. However, with my main, I wanted to level him up quickly so I would have at least one toon able to participate in end-game content, ship raids, Hami raids, etc.
Did I PL him? Only if you call nearly three months of street-sweeping for bosses in hazard zones PL'ing.
I did the same thing with my first villain too.
Now they HAVE paid for it. Their contact list is pitifully small compared to people who've mished the crap out of things. Hence, obtaining quick inspie refills isn't so quick for them, as in several zones, I simply have no contacts...
I've also missed a ton of badges this way too (though to be honest, at the point I was levelling Hyperstrike, I didn't really understand the badge and mission system very well yet).
My second red-side 50 was created and levelled up after I13 hit. I made it a POINT to go through content. As such, she racked up a FEROCIOUS amount of merits and roughly 70% of all arcs available to me in Ouroboros show as "completed".
I have a troller blue-side working this very same way and he's already sitting on nearly 300 merits.
So, I can see why people would want to PL a toon for special purposes. I just can't see them wanting to do it with EVERY toon they play. -
[ QUOTE ]
Those are interesting ways to describe the game developers.
By the way, it's not "you must do this", it's "you should not do that".
[/ QUOTE ]
Again, who are you to be telling anyone else what they should or should not do? -
[ QUOTE ]
Anyone who says it HASNT affected their PuGing is Lying.
[/ QUOTE ]
Outside of one specific incident, this hasn't hurt my ability to PuG at all. And no, I'm not lying. I can still put an ITF team together. I can pretty much participate in any given task force I want with a random group of people at a moment's notice. I can even find people willing to arc-mission with me.
That one incident? Red-side Hami Raid on Protector about a week back.
However, AE is still VERY FREAKIN' NEW HERE!
Just about EVERYONE still hasn't gotten over their case of "OOH! NEW SHINY!" yet.
Give it a few months. -
[ QUOTE ]
while a very erratic topic, i do agree that maybe the AE building should be removed from AP. this will give the new to the game players a chance of actually seeing what the game is about. everyone else who has been around a while knows how to navigate the higher lv zones without getting killed. red side has actually taken this into consideration( if you look at it that way) as to put the AE building on the opposite side of mercy from where you start vs the blue side which has the AE building right there as soon as you zone in. bad idea. and i know kind of a lame argument for it but maybe this will spark somemore usefull ideas or actually get people thinking about taking their 50's to another zone with their friends of all different lv ranges and leave the "new to the game" palyers to experience part of the game before getting to lv 50 and not knowing what to do.
[/ QUOTE ]
I dunno about removing the building from Atlas.
Atlas is, essentially, the showcase of the game for new players. So, like a strip mall, it's crammed with everything a new player is really likely to be using.
However, on a technical note, I can understand.
Atlas is a major choke-point in the game.
You have a market interface there.
You have the AE interface there now too.
You have a major congregation area under Atlas himself. And you have major multi-zone pass-thrus, the likes of which you don't really see in too many other zones. About the only thing it doesn't have is a university. -
[ QUOTE ]
I think a better solution would be to make some change that will make it undesirable or impossible for level 50 characters to use the AE facilities in the lower level zones.
[/ QUOTE ]
No. Because then you're penalizing players in an arbitrary fashion, simply for being a certain level.
Also, is it really fair to the lowbie to have to try and jog through Peregrine Island to meet up with their team at AE?
The level-specific changes you're talking about would make teaming with lowbies more difficult and completely annoying.
