They're not responsible for your expectations.

It's clearly stated when server maintenance is. If one can't be bothered to read the fine print, one gets what one deserves.

Well I'm complaining because the fixes should not have been necessary in the first place.

Have you ever done bug testing on a piece of software? Not "I got into the beta and look at the shiny!" BUG...TESTING. If not, I question your argument.

The MA is a relatively VAST piece of software with numerous, deeply nested options.

Could 1, or 10, or even 50 players SPECIFICALLY looking for exploits have found them all? Sure! '

You willing to wait another year or two? Maybe not?

The devs and the playtesters are only human. They can't be omniscient or omnipresent. There was nothing really non-functional in the system. Therefore it shipped. Some of the options simply needed removing and nobody had gotten around to testing all the POSSIBLE exploits (and I seriously doubt anyone ever WILL find all the POSSIBLE exploits). However, several egregious ones WERE caught prior to launch. And several more have been found and patched now.

If it were me, I'd rollback AE entirely until I could make sure it didn't have any exploits available, but I've never been strictly business-oriented.

    [/ QUOTE ]

A few people using the MA are going to wind up overlooking exploits. Thousands of people who are obsessed with finding the maximum reward/minimum effort formula are going to find every one of those exploits and put them to use.

The best way to find exploits is to put the program into the hands of those who will diligently search for and gleefully use them.

Since AE, we've had many additional Downtimes to fix "exploitive" AE farming.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Please show me one maintenance update that SOLELY fixed farming issues.

Were farming fixes part of the updates? SURE! Not denying that. But other things went into those fixes as well.

However, what they're doing is finding holes that needed to be (and would be) closed in AE anyhow.

So how does this NEGATIVELY affect you?

It negatively affects me because I can not play.

I think he got you there Hyperstrike

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually no. The maintenance fixed other things besides farming. See my post above.

    Uhm. Try again?

This maintenance pushed OTHER things besides the farm fixes. It solved the exploding drone problem. It also activated the new Super Booster pack. So you wouldn't be able to play either way.

  12. Reminds me of my Quake2 days. I was the first person signed up on a brand new loop from MediaOne (which eventually wound up as Comcast). For nearly three MONTHS, the only other node on the network with me was the head office. At the time, there was no capping. I had a full 30 Mbit pipe to myself (though I could only use 10 Mbits of it, as the ethernet port on the modem was only 10-BaseT.

And my GOD were my ping times low. I actually got booted from more than one server as an LPB because of it.

I deal with 4Mb/s UP and 0.14Mb.s DOWN. Latency of first hop is 120ms.

Wait, you have a faster upload speed than download?

I know you're on the wrong side of the planet but...

    (JOKING!)

Or did you get those mixed up and mean 4 Megabits download speeds (coming in to you) and .14 Megabits (143 Kilobits) upload speed (for you sending out)?

So is THAT what I should expect from my light hearted Hero based MMO I started with my 8-year old son in January?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Uhm. Yes? Expecting some of the newest rarest items in the game to be cheap and plentiful, especially when the community of people that could regularly earn them are so small is somewhat naive.

You're one of roughly ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND subscribers to this game. Some of whom have been playing in excess of five YEARS.

If you're quitting simply because something that's INTENDED to be ultra-rare, and likely only owned by very HARDCORE players (or prolific zealous PvPers) isn't available cheaply and readily to a casual player? Well. don't let the door hit your donkey on the way out. And don't mind too much as the words "selfish" and "unrealistic" get tossed about.

I'd like to say I'm sorry for being so harsh. But I'm not. I dislike doing it, but sometimes it's necessary.

This will be the first year in nine years that I'm not heading back there. Real life hit hard this year, and I just couldn't justify going .

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah. If I wasn't working the con, I'd be seriously thinking about not going this year myself.
  16. Well, if you've got a spare slot and about 600 million inf, you could go for one of those Gladiator +3% defense IOs.

Also, do you have a Steadfast Protection +3% defense slotted already? If not, that'd probably be BUTTLOADS cheaper.

  18. Hey guys. I probably posted on this before and trying to search back a couple months for me turns up several large pages of posts.

I'm going to be at GenCon in Indianapolis this year and am helping put together a Meet and Greet.

Just wondering if any of you were going to be at the con and if you were interested in the get-together.

I just received a message from Niv and she has a preliminary RFS (Request for Swag) in for about 20-25 people, but there's still some leeway there. So if you're going to be attending, please hit the thread I linked to above, and post there. Also, if you're bringing people with you, let us know so we have accurate numbers for the reservations.

Four letters long, and you managed to spell it wrong. It's FIOS.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Go easy on him man. He's probably still broken up about what happened to Rawhide.
  20. I'm not so much worried about throughput.

A measily $20/month bottom-tier DSL line has that.

What I'm unsure of with FIOS is latency.

Satellite has decent bandwidth. But I wouldn't try to game with it if you paid me.

Why? Multi-second (not millisecond) ping times. You think you get rubber banding bad NOW? Try playing when communications with the server are in the 1500-2000ms range JUST FOR THE FIRST HOP.

Granted, it's probably fine for FIOS. Most current wired tech is sufficiently low latency to the head-end. Just worry what happens during bandwidth aggregation (where they take all your traffic, bundle it up with everyone else's and push it out to the Greater Internet).

  22. Look on the bright side. You should have very few End issues. Both from the massive EndRedux slotting AND from the fact that you're usually dead before it makes a difference.
  23. Yep. 9PM EST (that means if you're in the Eastern US Time Zone, if your clock says 9PM you better be there OR ELSE!)
