Hiya!
Hyperstrike here boys and girls!
Right now I'm pulling a namesake Alt up by its own bootstraps on Exalted. It won't be my home. Protector's way too homey for me. -
-
Quote:You might not. But the hundreds playing at that time would have.Nope but they could have brought the servers down as soon as they had the hotfix, think it was about 8am EU time when announced, I wouldn't have minded if they brought the servers down then.
And you'd have had people who'd ALREADY been there 12-ish hours that day applying patches, long-distance for 4 hours during prime time on a moment's notice. -
Quote:Thing is, Friday night is NOT the time when the "fewest" players are on. Maybe the fewest EU players. But not the fewest. If that were the case, they could have done it overnight or in the very early morning - the post announcing the downtime was just before 10p EDT.
It's great that they're willing to pay people to come in to work on it on Saturday* but if they were going to do it "as soon as it's ready" then it would've gone in overnight when the fewest players are on. At my last job anything critical enough to pull things down during a peak activity time happened as soon as they knew about it (ie, no announcement 14 hours in advance) and anything that could wait 14 hours could wait until 3am when the rest of the maintenance gets done.
* - which really probably means they're salaried and don't get overtime, my natural cynicism points out
Even at 1PM Exalted was rocking 6-7 Atlas Parks and Protector was still busy. I'm fairly certain Freedom and Virtue were similarly busy. -
Quote:The OP was roughly 9PM last night.I think alot of EU folk are more P'd off with the time of the downtime, rather than the downtime itself, from what I understand from people they had this hotfix ready yesterday early morning for EU/ Primetime in NA, yet they have waited until EU primetime to implement it.
I'm all for giving Devs the time to fix these problems but it would be nice if they thought of someone else rather than the NA sometimes.
Yeah, a patch may have been ready yesterday morning. But it still had to go through Q&A. That takes time.
Additionally I'd like to see how some people react when someone who isn't their boss suggest THEY stay extra late or come in ridiculously early ON A WEEKEND at their job. -
Quote:They've already pulled several overnighters this week.Although I commend you for coming on a Saturday I can't help but notice that yet again EU prime time gets hit hard. For the 4th time in less than week. I understand that it needs to be fixed but come on! Couldn't you come in a little bit earlier? As it is I and a lot of players aren't able to log in and we'll have to wait basically until tomorrow to play.
Again, thanks for coming in on a saturday and all, but geez! This is getting ridiculous!
Plus, this patch may not have emerged from Q&A until late last night. -
Quote:Question. Would you rather be playing but crashing out and having errors roll you back and glitches screwing the game up?Yay another prime time EU downtime,I love those, thank you ever so much for spoiling us with another, wow four in a week and this one is even on a Saturday wow, thank you ever, ever, ever so much.
You must be WAY more tolerant of that crap than I am. -
Quote:Right. They can either stick a band-aid on a sucking chest wound of a problem and nurse it along with people petitioning every few seconds for an entire weekend.Because when you need to do a critical patch, the time when the least number of people affected is always when the patch becomes available to you? Lucky you.
Or they can fix it. They took the right approach here.
Actually no. They were ALREADY nuts. This is just confirmation.Quote:The teams have been going nuts all week.
Exactly.Quote:And for all we know, half the reason they chose 9AM Pacific is because that lets them patch /after/ it's cleared some kind of testing script that takes a while to run. -
Quote:Got burned quite badly by ATI cards a few revs ago. As such, I'm leery about trusting them again. ESPECIALLY now that AMD is in the picture.I am thinking of getting my partner a new graphics card, specifically the 560Ti. We've been ATI kinda folks for awhile now, but the drivers as of late have been irritating us. Specifically, anything newer than 11.4 has caused CoX to crash out with regularity. How are NVIDIA's drivers? Any known problems with CoX that I should consider when making my choice?
While, at times, I've had minor annoyances from nVidia drives from time to time, I've never had flat-out situations where I cannot play a game.
Right now I have a 560Ti from EVGA and I have almost nothing in the way of stability issues (unless I forget to turn off my RC5-cracking GPU client). -
Quote:Could be worse. They could be trying to do Project A-Ko.Please let this project not happen. I like Ranma and do not want to see it go live action.
Bad enough Akira and Cowboy BeBop are supposed to go live action......did they learn nothing from the live action Fist of the Northstar and the first live action Guyver movie?
*Shudder*
Think of Arnie in a battle-bikini.
*SHUDDER*
Actually please, DON'T think of Arnie in a battle-bikini. -

Quote:I've been noticing problems with the phasing technology.I am not sure why this wasnt fixed in beta but the spawns for the arachnos mobs with the capes in atlas park do not spawn fast enough. Same thing for the kill skulls missions. Next week when we have all these new players trying to do these quests there will not be enough mobs spawning to do this in a timely manner. You pretty much have to instance hop just to find enough mobs to kill without this taking an hour to do. Now at the same time its not a good idea to have the mobs to instantly respawn but more so have just more spawns just added to the area to make this less of an issue. Or tweak it so more of the arachnos mobs with the capes to show up and more skullz spawn points too.
Several of the hunt missions were nearly unable to be completed due to the enemies not phasing in. You'd see their victims sitting their cringing, but there'd be no enemies to fight in the various parking lots and courtyards.
And if this is happening way out in Atlas Park 6 and 8, I SHUDDER to think what it's like in instances 1-3 when they're packed. -

Quote:Again, look at the PM I shot you. The memory that's in there right now is Corsair Dominator memory. It's 4ns stuff (low latency). Nowadays, similar low latency DDR2-800 runs about $60 for 2x2GB kits. And my follow up question:
If I walk into the store, what kind of memory should I pick up? Basically, I want to be able to tell the guy "My CPU can use XXX memory, which ones can I choose from?" I plan to go get it tonight.
I'd recommend getting the 4ns stuff as opposed to cheaper 5-6ns stuff. The price difference is less than $10, and you'd see a small degradation in memory performance if you went with stuff that had 5-6ns timings. -
Quote:Look at your CoH Helper. How do I find out what motherboard I have? I had the old one on this CPU I believe replaced and got another one upgraded for free.
System Manufacturer: EVGA__
System Model: nForce 750i SLI
This is your board. (PDF Link)
Also, I know you're worried that Win7 won't be supported on your hardware. Put it to rest. Your mainboard has support for 64-bit Vista. So you're safe as far as Windows 7 goes. -
Quote:I'd install a free AV on it regardless. The performance impact on your gaming will be negligible and better safe than sorry.3) I don't download anything to this CPU and if I do I generally delete it ASAP. Mostly because I don't run Virus scan and I go to very limited websites on this CPU. If I do have to browse foreign places, I use my IPHONE.
Check your PMs. I believe I shot you one with links where to buy an OEM copy (rather than paying more than double for a full retail copy).Quote:Ok my question is, if I go down to Fry's Electronics and buy Windows 7. Do they just give me a disk and I just put that into the CPU and it will install itself after a few clicks and format everything? Is it that simple? Do I need a disk with all the drivers for my hardware such as the motherboard, or processor whatever?
Essentially it's a way too (theoretically) double (or triple) the throughput of a memory system. You get two matched memory sticks on a board that supports it and the memory controller can alternate between one stick and the other during heavy memory reads.Quote:I am not sure what dual channel or triple channel means? Can you say that in layman terms?
In the case of triple channel, it interleaves between three matched memory modules.
Your board is an nVidia 750i from what it looks like. It takes DDR-800 and runs dual-channel.
Your board maxes out at 8GB. You have 4 memory slots (2 sets of 2).Quote:I am also looking to go to at least 8 gig ram maybe 10 gig. How do I know what RAM is currently in my CPU? -
Quote:Okay. All I can say to that is "wow".
Still not sure if it's showing all memory taken by both the processes you had running or if the client is now large-memory aware. I haven't had a chance to check it out. I will be keeping an eye on it. Thanks for this heads-up, as I don't want to be spewing information that's outdated on this subject. -

Quote:A supergroup is designed to be a collection of heroes who have banded together. (sorry, I'm a blue side player - but the overall gist is the same, only the terms used are different)
Sometimes, this turns out to be one person whose friends have left the game, other times, someone who prefers to solo - or just prefers the storage creates and maintains their own base.
As many of you know, there is a top 100 list at the Supergroup Registrar's desk in the City Hall building in Atlas.
But - all this list does is measure prestige. It does not measure prestige earned. It measures prestige, whether earned, or converted from Influence/Infamy/Information.
I don't think this is a good thing. I'm glad we have the option to convert inf. to prestige. But, it bothers me that these boosts in prestige show up in the top 100 total.
This list, I can only imagine, was designed to show which groups are more active, not which groups have people who have influence to spare to convert to prestige.
I can't imagine how many groups of players on the VIP server raced to reach level 10 to make another chapter of their sg only to see that one or more groups already have a ton of prestige more than they do.
Don't misunderstand - I would like to convert and build all the portals and have enough control and power to do so - but I've got a rather pricy build I'm saving for. PvP IOs are not cheap, and I don't get drops in PvP because I so seldom win. lol. (probably more of lack of skill, than pvp IOs, but anyway)
I just would like to see converted prestige added to the base - just not to the totals in the top 100 list. I'd like that list to just show earned prestige. Not prestige generated by toons just entering - but only the earned prestige.
Anyone with two accounts now can have what - 96 toons in their base. Obviously, the first 15 could be from the same account, giving a bonus of what is it now? 20k per?
A list reflecting earned prestige might be a better indication of an SGs activity level. It certainly doesn't make the number 1 earner the best - but it does give a non-member something more to consider when deciding to join or not.
Just a suggestion.
I earned that Inf I'm converting to prestige too. I'm also taking a FAR more severe conversion rate than those who simply swap into SG mode and get a 50% reduction in Inf earnings.
So no. Unsigned. -
Quote:Operational word "was".I know one of the stumbling block was the fact that youdont have access to the pools at level 1 so they had trouble applying it to the character or something like that.
Look at Incarnate powers. You don't have access to them until 50. But you can still customize 'em.
The stumbling block now? It's called "I don't wanna do it." -
No. Back up a sec. I didn't say he gave us a BS "reason". The reason for the tool isn't BS and I fully support the fact that it's needed.
The "metric" he used (simul-one-shotting the Freedom Phalanx or all of Perez Park) is BS. As there's no way to do that for someone NOT using hacks or the dev "I WIN ALL" button.
The gripe I have is that they essentially didn't announce the system UNTIL AFTER IT WAS DISCOVERED BY PLAYERS. Essentially last second, leaving no time in beta to allow the testers to beat on the system to make sure it was really and truly stable. Doing playbacks of high-activity server logs is not a substitute for this.
So my gripes are summarized thus:
A feeling of trust has been abused and player relations with the devs seem to be deteriorating.
A system has been put into place with inadequate testing. -
Quote:I think a Force Field defender running Personal Force Field slotted up would be extremely survivable. You'd have to run Dispersion Bubble as well, to prevent mez. Although I'm not sure how it'd fare against extremely high accurace opponents like Ruularu eyeballs or Devouring Earth when they drop one of those crystal pseudo pets. I'd guess you'd be toast at that point. But against most content you'd be invulnerable.
This is why you take Power Mastery. Two-slot Force of Nature for Damage Resist. Slotted up for capped defenses pre-PFF, you're looking at something like 150% defense and capped 75% resists to EVERYTHING save Psi.
It'd take ridiculous amounts of defense debuff to get by those defenses. But yeah, something like DE or Rularuu are going to always be problematic. Even to Stoners in Granite. -
