I think it's also worth noting that this means new players will not be able to SELL their Luck Charms for what amounts to a nice chunk for a lowbie. So, even if it works, I'm not sure it's really a positive effect.

There's a passing mention of magic in the Hamidon's rarely-read origin story, but in-game, the Devouring Earth is almost always dealt with non-magically. They drop tech salvage, for example. Praetoria keeps them at bay with sonic fences, not runed walls. Scientists work to cure the transformed, not mages. Overall, I feel pretty confident calling it a sciency bio-threat, not a magical one. It's eco-terrorism on an apocalyptic scale, not angry nature spirits.
Edit: Moreover, when I think of the big plot twists in Praetoria, the first things that come to mind are Enriche, the War Walker invasion reveal at the end of the Loyalist line, and interdimensional portals, which are all definitely not magical. -
It's very difficult to answer that question without a spoiler, but basically, an NPC offers you a "lesser of two evils" choice. You have 3 dialog options:
1) the lesser of the two evils (for the jaded vigilante, or the hero who knows their limits)
2) both of the two evils (for the villainous types, or the REALLY jaded vigilante)
3) neither (for the fearless idealist)
If you choose 1 or 2, the NPC will just agree. If you choose 3, they will refuse, and you have to defeat the NPC and its allies within the timer, or else both of the bad things happen anyway. -
Fair enough. I really have no argument against someone opining there's too much magic, it's the "why is there nothing other than magic" that makes no sense at all.
Quote:It's not hard to make the claim that WAY MORE than 1/5 of the recent content has been magic related.
And that doesn't mean it should necessarily be a 50-50 split, either, because again I can't think of any remotely compelling reason that each category should get equal coverage. I'm just saying that "we have 5 origins" should not necessarily lead to "one-fifth of the game must be about each origin". -
So, is the problem that there's too much magic, or that magic and other themes are frequently mixed together? The game often treats all the various origins and themes as simply parts of the world, rather than "let's tell a magic story now" and "this is a tech story". Even a heavily sci-fi-focused zone like RWZ has Vanguard wizards and Rikti magi, and a heavily magic-focused zone like DA still has prominent non-magical elements, like appearances from Malta and the 5th column.
There's origins and themes other than magic, and they are pretty well represented in the game. They are very often not kept separate, though. -
Other than Prometheus and Ramiel in Ouroboros, the Well is barely ever mentioned. BAF, Lambda, Keyes, and TPN are pure science/tech, and UG/MoM have magic only in a cameo role. Apex had us fighting an invasion based on giant robots and nanites; Tin Mage had us disabling a giant technological portal and the mad scientist that built it. Praetoria as a whole is so devoid of magic that its mere presence puts First Ward in stark contrast to the rest of the dimension, even though half the zone has you fighting psychic apparitions and DUST soldiers. Even the SSA, despite its overarching magical theme, concludes with a massive nuclear salvo and a battle in space.
For recent powersets, we've gotten Time Manipulation and Beam Rifle, two sets straight out of sci-fi. We've gotten Street Justice, which is about as comic book as it gets. Looking back a bit further, we got Kinetic Melee and Dual Pistols, based on physics and modern technology, respectively. Demon Summoning is the only definitely magical set we've gotten in quite some time, the rest are theme-neutral at best.
There's been lots of magic too, and with DA still new and shiny it might even feel dominant. But it is not, by any measure, the only or even the main thing in the game. So, let me turn this around: there's origins and story themes other than science, k? -

Quote:I would appreciate if you would also keep the discourse civil. When somebody questions something you say, that's not an attack, an insult, or an accusation. It's a question. You said Unveiler was easier to get than Gangbuster, which was quite opposite Ail's and my experience, since the best method for getting Unveiler that I knew 24 hours ago was hunting in FBZ (indeed, this has been the conventional wisdom on the best way to get the badge in almost every conversation on the topic I have seen for years). Simply saying that, no, you are not speaking in jest, Unveiler can be quickly obtained from a certain mission, would have been a perfectly sufficient reply.I'll send you a PM. I appreciate you keeping the discourse civil, dullards that do call me a liar and struggle with basic English definitions aren't going to get the answer.
However, when you interpret skepticism as fighting words, civility has ceased. -
It does appear to have run past the normal 2-hour window, but http://sgspaces.net/server_status/ shows that individual servers are coming back up, which usually happens shortly before they let us log in. That's still far from a guarantee, of course.

A scrapper or brute, IMO, or maybe a Stalker if they prefer a slightly less direct approach. Willpower is a good set from start to finish, as you mentioned, although several other sets are pretty straightforward also. Preferably, you'd also want an attack set that blooms pretty early, like Claws.
I actually do have a Claws/WP scrapper, and it was a very easy character to level. -
Most weeks since Freedom, there's been downtime on tuesdays AND thursdays. On the bright side, they tend to be short - usually schedule for two hours, and frequently coming up before then.

Actually, VIPs can hide the shop icon. Premium and free accounts don't get the option to, but VIPs can. It's under Options -> Prompts, if I recall.

Magic is indeed not the only possible theme. It is, however, one possible theme, so we get some content centered around it. We also get some content that's not. Why is this a problem?

Quote:Heh. I only just finished it over the weekend, myself, so I kinda know what you meanI have not. I keep making excuses, but this is not for lack of wanting to do it.
The zone is indeed dark, gloomy, and depressing. It's supposed to be. But that's not "devs hate heroes" or bad storytelling or something, it's just dramatic tension. Things in DA start out bad and go downhill from there. Still, you're never forced to give up.
I don't want to say much more for fear of spoilers, but it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on DA when you finish itI do agree with you overall that such stories are some of the best parts of the game.

Quote:Wait, what??? How? I've never found anywhere that lets me even get near 5 fakes per minute, at least not solo. Here's the empirical fact - I can go from 0 to Unveiler in about 20 minutes. Just to be clear, "empirical fact" is used because I have personally done this.
Seriously, I'm not trying to call you a liar or something, I want to know how to do this. It would make the accolade much easier. -
It's also interesting to think about what the core/radial in each tree might do, assuming it follows that structure like the slots we have so far.

Welcome to speculation hell
The description sounded like it's supposed to let you choose between improving things you already do, or gaining new capabilities. Control and Support would almost certainly have to do something on their own, not just improve existing powers, for pretty much the reasons you've given. Similar for Melee, really, since many characters have little or no mitigation or mez protection to improve upon. Just from the description, Assault could technically be a passive damage buff or something boring, but we already have that with Alpha, and we already have damage procs with Interface, so maybe/hopefully it will be something different. -
Quote:Definitely. That's just an objective fact.Your logic is sound but highly flawed. Nothing changes the fact that it is a powerset for a VIP restricted class
Quote:(I still say you should not even be able to purchase them). As a paying subscriber there is absolutely no reason I should be forced to spend points on a powerset..any powerset, period. Frills and Fluff, sure but nothing that is a part of the game itself. -

Quote:Well, I have no idea how high Very Rare salvage can stack, but I know that threads can stack into 4 digits, so if I had to venture a guess, I would say that anything in the Incarnate tab stacks to 9999 as well. Thanks for the info. I assumed that might be the case (knowing that the AE tickets cap at that number) but hadn't verified is they were all the same. Does the same 9999 cap apply to the Incarnate Salvage contents tab? I've got a huge stack on some alts of some types of common salvage, but in no danger ever of hitting 9999. I seem to recall that base salvage capped at 99 of given type, but am far from certain.

Um... unless there's disciplinary action along with those deletions, it's a bit of a stretch to call this a "punishment". Even the general descriptions seem to be intact, I've only noticed direct quotes of the page being deleted.

The wording on Paragonwiki is slightly different than the official page was, but still about all we know so far. Is it a passive? A click buff power? Does it add extra effects, like Interface, or enhance existing effects, like Alpha? All we've got is the little blurb describing it in not-very-specific terms, so one guess is about as good as another.
It doesn't seem to be like any kind of stance mechanic, though, at least not if it's anything like how the other Incarnate powers are structured.
