I LIKE Barrage ... if for no other reason than its unique look. Meh.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Had this exact same sentiment in a SG conversation the other night. I like the look of barrage too.

And so goes the death of my pvp. I was hoping for another FFA but one where the villains and heroes could join teams.
This is another Sirens. I love siren's but, don't need another.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hrmm. Sorry, can't make everyone happy. If, at some point, they did a high level FFA, I'd go there too, but a high level "faction" zone is almost a "no duh" from the development perspective, I would think, and benefits a lot of toons on both sides.

For example...MMs usually get damage in their later powers, which would help make them a little more dangerous than they are in SC. My Energy tank will be able to install fear in villians with his mighty ET+TF combo, whereas the mighty Energy Punch + Barrage combo is nowhere near as feared. Not to mention Hybernate, which is rather crucial to my pvp success in any zone. Transfusion, Unstoppable, Granite, etc, etc, etc,...

You guys seriously need to harden the policies on your CVS or whatever other tool you're using for version management. This happens way too often.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Seconded.

Also, I was one of the few champions of WW out of all the CoH people I ever played/talked too, and one of the reasons was it's knock-up rather than back. WAY, WAY too many things do knock-back, it's just annoying. I have no idea what this exploit was, however, and failure to disclose it kind of leads me to believe it was something that could have been changed another way, other than a nerf, but probably not as easy from the Devs point of view.

Knock-up is so much more usefull it's not even funny, and you just happened to forget to mention this really bad change that got slipped in there, with, of course, no prior mention/discussion with the players. Missing patch notes on something that had already been discussed would be ok, I mean, who cares, but it's always something that hasn't even been brought up for the players to test that makes it to live and gets "missed" in the patch notes.

I'm sure now it's "working as intended" and we'll never get it changed back...unbelievable, how do you always manage to hit my favorite powers that I'm sure will never, never get nerfed and ignore the ones that could really use a looking at? I mean, it's WW, for chrissakes!!! It's pathetic enough, leave it alone already! *sheesh!*

Not only am I pissed about the power change, I'm pissed about constantly, CONSTANTLY "forgetting" to mention things in the patch notes. They're always nerfs too...when the hell did anyone forget to mention anything good, that players might be happy about? Slip a positive change to Burns fear effect in there and see if anyone notices it for awhile, eh? "Forget" to mention new rocketpacks for every toon with a 30 day timer! Plz...for me?

I appreciate the apology, but if you really want to make us feel better, cut the crap next time, eh? That'll show us you mean it, cause otherwise you're just "pulling a Stalker", placating us just so you can prepare to whack us around again.
  4. My take is that, with Rage, SS and EM are roughly equal. Rage is a huge deal, allows very different slotting and can help save on taking entire power pools, if the user is so inclined. It also helps make up for the smashing damage.

Stone, I feel, could use some lovin. That AOE at the end REALLY isn't helping much for most of the game (well, tanks anyway), and it has very high end and act times to counteract it's decent damage.

Now...if some of Stones KB or w/e was higher MAG, allowing it to overide some peoples tiny kb res, THAT would help balance it quite a bit. As things stand now, it's just not a worthy set, IMO.

PS- Another fix that might be usefull? Do something with hurl. It's WAY to situational to be worth a darn...crappy damage, crappy range, have to be on the ground, still have to slot for acc, lots of things resistant to it's kb, etc. Heck, give IT a higher mag KB, that's a start!
  5. [ QUOTE ]
There should be no attack in the game other than Nukes, that should do more than 75% of a squishies health, period. This game will be a better place.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Also....a nuke is an AOE attack. It can attack tons of people at once. Why the hell should it be the only attack capable of doing serious damage?

    THAT would be unbalanced!
  6. [ QUOTE ]
I sometimes think it's funny when the Stalker comment on how whiny everyone is. They should read some of their own posts sometimes.

In the end, everyone is whiny except possibly defenders, who don't count because they largely get ignored.

    [/ QUOTE ]

OK, literally LOL'd on this one. Almost a ROFL, but my floor is pretty dirty and I stopped myself.
  7. Hey. Trying to figure out how best to make this work on my laptop. Any ideas?

Got a keyboard coming, but the company, buy.com, has said that for 2 months now.
  8. [ QUOTE ]

Super Reflexes Auto powers (Agile, Dodge, and Lucky) now add some minor damage resistance. This Damage resistance starts at 0%, but improves as the caster loses HP. The Resistance kicks in at 60% HP (when HP bar first changes color) and markedly increases at 40% and 20% (again, when the bar changes color). We have not yet determined the exact values.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I second a lot of people here who ask for some measure of this to be given to ice tanks. This is, more or less, what we asked for you to add to permafrost anyway, when we instead got the (slight nerf disguised as a buff) change to CE.

Though I understand CE is going up, from 7 to 14%, would it be so hard, in light of this change to SR's auto-powers, to give us a similar resistance in permafrost? Even capped out at 10%, would help make up a lot for what I'm about to lose to ED in the way of defenses and survivability...not to mention damage output.

CE doesn't affect everything, and it's a damage debuff, not a resistance, which means it behaves under different rules. Also, it being pbAOE, it pretty much necessitates herding...since some mobs refuse to be brought into melee range, it makes engaging many types of common foes extremely hazardous, especially if you lack ready mobility. People with TP and SJ got screwed on this deal...flight to a lesser degree, but SS is really the only way to go with this debuff, and you still end up with half an answer if you can survive long enough to get a decent percentage of the enemies within CE and EA range.

Lacking six-slotted health (in I5)'s effectiveness, I just don't see how ice is going to become anything more than a scrapper set in the wrong AT. We're barely holding on as it is...even if I diversify around EDs holes (yeah, I needed more holes in ice, thanks a bunch), Ice was barely hanging on, and this may push it down to "total gimp" status.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
After all I have to ask what good is knowing the effectiveness of enhancements in the enhancement screen if we don't know the base values it affects.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Corallary to that...what good is it to have the enhancement tell you how much good it'll do you if you still have to add a slot to the power before you can know how much good it'll do you?

Is there any change the devs consider that DOESN'T require contant respecs?
  10. Yeah, that never occured to me, but there goes perma-hasten and six-slotted stamina too.

    Crap.
  11. Yeah, that was my first thought on seeing the CuppaJo news too.

I'm like "OMG...someone really thought it was a good idea to have the developers playing an entirely different game from the players since March 2005!"

Jesus H. Christ NCSoft is lucky I want to play a hero, or I'd give these bums the boot. I really, really thought their ideas couldn't get much worse too....they've been working on this idiotic system for months too. If you thought the major nerfs and stuff from I5 was extreme, wait till they try to implement this crap. I will be taking another 3 month absence then as well, while they sort that crap out.
  12. [ QUOTE ]

So, instead of addressing the overall problem, which is that buffed/enhanced powers make most debuffs irrelevant, the devs addressed a particularly egregious example. Storm Defenders, for instance, pointed out that Snow Storm debuffed their speed more than the target's speed b/c of suppression. We whined enough about a particularly bad effect that it got changed. I think that's what it takes.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Heh...that's an interesting story, had never heard that.

*bows to Devs in their infinite wisdom*

    ( a few minutes pass)

*wonders if they ever play the game*
  13. [ QUOTE ]
Cool. I know an Ice Tanker. He'll appreciate this, though I'll have to explain the finer points of why it was necessary...

    Thanks

    [/ QUOTE ]

Could someone explain it to ME? Like...in PM or something? I'm running a 32 ice/em atm, and, just for example, got out-tanked twice last night by khelds. Not by a little...by a lot. This is my 5th tank...I know what I'm doing, but there are just situations where this guy is going to faceplant where other tanks would still be smiling and poinding stuff.

If running power pools is going to help, I'll load up on some in my respec, but I'd like to be able to know wth I'm talking about when i do.

I'm a computer engineering major...and even I cannot penetrate the ever-changing rules and requirements, stipulations and loopholes of the defense based sets...no wonder people prefer plain old resistances. If nothing else, this is a good move because it makes things simpler, and simple=good a vast majority of the time.
  14. Also, my ice tank just hit 32...may I again voice my concerns over Hybernate?

Stone and Invuln both get "ok, let's get really serious now" powers at 32. Ice gets to take a nap.

Fire, even worse off, gets a self res...but I'm not here for fire.

Hybernate would be a totally fine and usefull for me IF YOU COULD HOLD AGGRO. I'd one-slot it for recharge, pop it off as an "oh [censored]" power and regen my way to good health while holding the aggro I had already aquired. Make the recharge timer as long as you want...I'm gonna need it all of once every few missions anyway.

Please, consider allowing CE or Taunt to work through hybernate...it seems kind of cruel to our teamates, who are probably counting on us, to make us check out on them when they need us most.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
As you point out, Ice still has some issues compared to other sets. As Circeus points out, Ice lacks sufficient smash/lethal mitigation when compared to other tanker primaries.

    [/ QUOTE ]

STILL? Crap...do I need to take fighting then? Check out my ice ice baby thread for my burgeoning (lvl 31) ice/em tank.
  16. First off, sorry for my crankiness earlier...it was late and I'd been studying for hours. My thoughts and feelings were genuine, that was just about all the fluff I could come up with at that time though.

Secondly, some questions for those of us not of the uber-mathematical bent:

    1) the new value, 14%, still gets hit from the enemies resistances, even against even con baddies, yes?

    2) It still doesn't apply to auto-hit attacks, correct?

    3) What would be the best slotting for EA now? Still just endurance reduction or 2 for pve, with some slows in for pvp in the late game?

Hmmm...well, my opinion is that this definately will help...however, I'd like States to keep in mind our entire set is the ONLY set that has a great deal of our survivability cut by various percentages when facing higher level spawns. Resistance is a great help versus +1-3s (which you will run in to, TFs, large teams, etc), whereas I am facing a decrease in the effectiveness of my defense, debuffs, accuracy, and damage all at one time. It's not the end of the world, but it would be nice to change it.

Also...well...it should be taken into notice that not all of my enemies are engaging me at melee range, which means I'm losing survivability versus other builds too.

Often I have 4-5 guys around me and then 2-3 guys sniping me from afar. They are out of range of my CE, so no debuff there, but also out of range of my EA, depriving me of the defense bonus and more endurance. They are taunted, as should be the case, because often they're LTs and Bosses and have damaging attacks.

This hasn't been a HUGE deal, but when doing one of the monster missions in the mid-40s, versus (brainfart) whatever the zombie and totem things are called, I was running in to gather aggro, and would borderline faceplant the whole time while I was being sniped by the dart things, ranged dark blasts, and other things that refused to come into melee range and were too spread out to concentrate on.

We checked a change in so that Chillling Embrace will NOW be:

    -.32 to Recharge
    -.14 to Damage

I'll post tomorrow explaining these numbers...

    [/ QUOTE ]
So States always does what he says?.....um where is the explanation?....lol

    [/ QUOTE ]

The guy's been at a press conference! Give him time!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Like...an extra day? Or 100% more time than he himself said he needed? I'd like my subscription fee to cover double the amount of time I signed up for, just cause I need some more time, you know, didn't get around to things I wanted to do, I'm sure the accountants at NCSoft will understand how it is. *rolls eyes*

No, I'm actually just "breaking balls" here, but it is kind of funny...my first post in this thread was about believing the changes would go through when I see em, and one of the first things that happens afterwards is States not doing one of the two things he said he was going to do in the post I was referring to.

All I'm saying is, if he goes 0 for 2, I'm gonna come in with a big, fat, "I told you so". Fair warning.

    ~DJ

PS-Failure to meet a commitment because of a forseeable event (like a press conferance) is the same kind of short-sightedness and lack of regard that the constant nerfing, testing, and "balancing" the Devs force on us demonstrates.

Is there anyone out there who honestly believes it's taken well over a year to figure out the kind of stuff that gets changed in patches? Is there anyone out there who honestly doesn't believe its either evindence of incredibly dim leadership or an ulterior motive? Hey...I was willing to work with you on Issue 2. Then issue 3. Then, hey, what the hell, issue 4 had pvp introduced, so some changes there would be appropriate. But then in issue 5...what the **** is going on?

Back to the conferance, it's not like it snuck up on him or anything, he knew it was coming. Nor did the Devs really sit down and hunker over the whole Hammy situation before they unleashed that unholy mess on us, or any one of a dozen others. There's a parallel there.

Bottom line, if something is important to you, you make it happen. They just don't seem to think this kind of stuff is that important.
  18. it is now. Like I said...won't be holding my breath on this one....
  19. oh, he only SAID it would happen.

I'll believe it when I see it. And then when it hasn't been changed back in the 12 months following it. And then I'll start to not believe it again, just in preparedness.
  20. so...wait, we're getting buffed? *doubletake*

Um...can I get a link, not seeing anythign about that in the dev digest. A doubling of the damage reduction would go a long way, I will admit.

    ~DJ
  21. Yeah, my ice/em was my favorite toon on COH, ever.

Now he's pretty much ruined...which sucks, cause I keep looking for ways to play him, but he just can't keep up. I'm not high enough for pvp, and I just don't see any way for him to slog through the next 20 levels at this level of effectiveness.

I don't know who told States that endurance was my big problem anyway, but I was majorly disappointed in the I5 changes to this set, especially in light of what should have been a long-expected buff. Instead, in this case and in EAs case, we got a stealth-nerf.
  22. This guide rocks and I love it. Thank you.
  23. Someone on another forum went at great lengths to argue with me the value of slotting for health, and suggested I should come mention it here. Consider it mentioned...following Fanboy's numbers, and some other calculators, I highly recomend 6-slotted health in there somewhere.

Pre-40s, seems to be a break-even point in slotting up the passive resists and health...4 slotting energy res, 3 slotting elemental res, and 6 slotting health gives an equal amount of survivability to those attacks, and double survivability to other forms of damage, in addition to helping immensely with sappers, pvp, auto-hits, res-lowering baddies, toggle drops, etc, etc....more than doubling, in most cases, the amount of damage u can take, per second, with max hp and max res in the later game.

Anywho, be happy to point out some math and kick it around with ya, just lemme know.
