If rewards became excessive, it was supposed to trigger - among other things, to unambiguously tell the player it *was* excessive? And yet we hear from the people testing it with the CEBR thing "It didn't trigger."

So, if this is "there to stop farming," not only are you calling Posi and crew a liar, but liars who haven't paid attention to the rest of the time their game has been in existence. The farmers move on - and likely HAVE moved 2-3 more farms down the road.
Let me rephrase, it cetainly wont stop all farms, it wont even stop all AE farms. But it will stop one type of farm that was doable with 0 player investment, and really relied on stocking up with unrealistic buffs by way of inspirations.

I rather doubt MARTY exists solely to stop gamebreaking exploits.
I wouldnt say that 'if marty doesnt flag it, the devs are ok with it.
It likely includes a lot of tracking to see what sort of thing has a 'better than expected, but not exploited' level of xp gain, and they use that sort of inormation to nerf the more abusive levels of farming. The thread claims you can level to 50 right out of character creation and with 0 investment and actually making a reasonable amount of money in the time. I dont know if I could have pulled it off in 8, but I'm confident I could have done it in 12. Thats a whole lot faster than most aspects of the game, especially when you consider it is a solo activity with 0 investment.

And while this 'targets a playstyle' I dont think the devs consider it a legitimate one, since its basically opposite of every other aspect of the game. Single player, no story or plot, no benefit / need to improve / optimize your character.

Higher level IOed out players will still be able to farm tickets. New players will still be able to get 20 in a couple hours running DFB. The negative impact really doesnt hit people that play the game within even a fairly broad definition of the term 'normally'. On the other hand, I'm going to have to learn how to actually play my CEBR Brute

Edit: note I am talking about the inspiration thing, the long term buffs in shorter dungeons being cancelled I am not sure is happening, but could be mildly problematic, tho if the dungeon is going to last 1 minute, maybe dont use the 15 minute cooldown power?
  2. The insp stripping is there to stop farming, it will do good at it to.

I was playing around with the CEBR thread a bit back, and basically the concept is, set yourself to +1x8, get a specific mission thats basically two triggers with 3-4 ambushes at once each, hardcapped at level 1.

buff to the damage cap, like 675 or so with a brute, cap out defense / resistance too. Hit clickies (hasten and some level 32 elec power), and charge the mission.

You one shot even the +1 bosses with a spin aoe attack, and your aura 1shots the minions. You generally get enough replacement inspirations to maintain your damage / defense buffs, especially if you build macros to combine un-needed insps. Each mission lasts maybe 2 minutes tops (and caps out tickets).

This method I played around with for maybe 3-4 in game hours, including learning curve, just to see how it went. the character is level 36 or so, the speed to 20 was silly, like 3-4 missions or so, then like 1 level every other mission to 30, and every third to 36.

Its quite boring, but very effective. It makes DFB seem slow even with its crazy xp rate. Anyone at all can do it, you dont even need enhancements in your powers, you can buy up recipes or rare salvage to make money at a reasonably good clip as well.

This is the behavior they were looking to stamp out, and these changes should soundly do so with the least real impact on players using AE correctly.

    Run DFB.
    Collect 6 leveled SOs.
    Repeat as needed.

You dont have to buy every enhancement on your character. people used to take what dropped as part of the process of deciding what to slot when money was tight, and fill in the really important ones from the stores.
  4. Another point for thought is randomness.

I'm not a high end tanker or anything like that, but part of the 'cost' of specializing in defense is that 'on average' that gets tacked on to everything.

With resistance, you know that every attack that lands will do x% less damage, you can rely on that.

With regen/high hp you know you can take X damage per second, or X total damage. You can rely on that.

With defense, even slight deviations of randomness can get ugly fast.

In those 20 attacks, on average you are taking 900 damage. a slight randomness of a second attack hitting you puts you to 1800, a big swing of say 4 hitting you gives a pretty scary 3600.

That resistance fellow tho, well, if he takes a few extra hits, hes probably going to be ok. If every attack hits him, hes still in the ballpark of slight variance of 2 hits on the defense guy.

This makes him a lot more capable of dealing with an angry RNG.

Its also part of what makes layered defense so strong. Eventually, you will get that bad set of rolls. Once in a 100 groups, your softcapped defense eats 5 or 6 hits out of the 20 attack alpha, and if he doesnt have some resistance to back that up, hes eating dirt.
  5. A happy owner of a larger base now, thanks
I added to the crappy workshop-only base to put in a medical center, transport room, and small decorative 'living room'. I cant wait till the others log in and see the changes

I spent this morning collecting badges and salvage to make the teleporters work, I probably wont really decorate it till tomorrow, since I'm going out trick or treating with the kids tonight

But either way, thank you a ton!
  6. So I just came back from not playing for a long while, and the guild with the nice base I used to be in appears to be gone (or the booted me and stopped playing, whichever). So a couple of friends and I put together a small group. But Prestige can be harder to get than I would have thought for a few casual players in a small SG.

I did some research to see what I could build, and I can put together a pleasant little base for me and my small group of friends for around 1M prestige, so long as I stick to the second size teleporter room and an oversite room/combo unit for power. that leaves room to set up a workshop with half a dozen storage bins and a med unit to res to and a little room to place decorations and make it feel like a home. And a less than that if I wait on some of the things I want to put in there over time.

That said, I managed to scrape together 50m, and I'll send you an email about it as soon as I get a chance
  7. Its all good.
When I first came back as a premium, my various wings and whatnot were intact on my characters. You wont lose them for going to premium.

I had faerie wings on one character and tech wings on another that I logged in and definately saw were working before I upgraded to VIP.

I didnt try changing the costume while premium, but I would be very surprised if these were locked out.

You wont be able to build new ones for other characters mind you.
  8. Free market usage is a lot lower grade than free io usage.
A lot of older players coming back as premium can buy from the market but not use IOs.

I know if I drop down to premium, I have access to market but not to inventions.

I see these becoming valuable to a greater extent than they are, but probably not anywhere near the extent that its worth taking a lot of time to sell them. But its probably worth tossing an invention bench in the superbase and storing them for potential new SG members in this situation.

I think most if not all F2P players that hit 50 are going to at least be premium with a purchase or two over the levels, meaning the lack of trading wont be too relevent with these also.

    Grouping

    Thats some great information, thanks!

I'm on liberty, and I did join the LB channel, tho I didnt figure out how to talk in it for an embarrassingly long time.

This weeks strike target is above my level, but that page will be great when it hits.

I'll keep on looking, but making friends in my level range is hard at times because I tend to play very casually at my fiance's pace, so usually I wind up getting outleveled when I do that.

    Grouping

Hi, I'm returning after not playing for a good long while.
And I dont seem to see much grouping between levels 20 and 50. I'm trying to figure out what I'm missing.

Up to 20 you can always get into a Death from below run, and if you can stomach running it again a few times, you will get from 1-20 in a couple hours, and thats all well and good I suppose. But once you hit 20 or so and stop doing DFB (And I know its still good exp frankly forever, but it especially to level 30 or so), I find it very hard to find groups.

I have looked on the teaming window, but as I usually play with my fiance, I often dont have the option since you cant look for new players while in a team as near as I could tell, and even when I'm alone, that list is woefully light on people in 'lfg' mode.

And when I do see people broadcasting for groups, is pretty much always for level 50 things like incarnate trials that I cant do.

I would love to see more large groups and task forces and whatnot, but I dont know where to look.

I also recall grouping being much better for experience, which would be a nice thing as well, since I would like to see my characters hit 50 in this lifetime

The common thread is usually a combination of having a lot of attacks available, and not enough endurance reduction slotted to sustain them.

Case in point, my Street Justice/Shield scrapper was an endurance nightmare until I had 3 slotted stamina with Performance Shifter +End proc, Numina and Miracle +End procs, and at least ~30% endurance reduction in EACH attack. Levels 10-27 on that character were some of the most tedious and frustrating levels I've ever experienced*.

    Hope that helps!

*IMO this is evidence of some underlying bad game design issues that will probably never be addressed at this point, so we are left with only the workarounds.

People are taking this quote out of context.
Endurance is not a bad game design.
The fact that endurance management is punishing to new players, but generally becomes irrelevent by level 25 is.

The difficulty of managing a characters endurance should rise with the challenge of the game, not put people off powersets before they get a chance to really see them.

I'm pretty sure thats what he meant by reading the whole post not just the last line.
