Willpower at the end turned a bit sturdier than he expected.
This amounts to about the same thing to what I was saying. An all passive set would be expected to have a weak taunt aura, being all passive. It would have to rely on Gauntlet for aggro control. Which in essence is what Willpower does. Which is why I've always held that selecting a secondary for fast recharging AoE was always the key to traditional tanking with Willpower.

Out of the box, Willpower is not all that sturdy, either. Strength of Will is absolutely essential before Tough and Weave; though after you get those two you may as well respec out of it. And, of course, Willpower doesn't find those endurance costly pool powers as taxing as other primaries do.

My first IO project was not to collect +def bonuses. My first project was to collect +end and +recovery bonuses for Heraclea. A lot of my non-WP tankers have two or more Performance Shifter Chance for +End slotted, including the ones slotted for defense. Especially them.

The endurance mechanic still annoys after being largely ameliorated. You know I always was carping about this. This is also why I loved Willpower as well. For the first six years and more of its existence, the game showed its worst face to the new player. Endurance was the biggest QoL problem, and Stamina was what you were more or less forced to take to get around it; and after Stamina was on and SOs available the game started to get a lot more fun to play.

If players had the QoL improvements from the start that they have now, this game might have so many subscribers and be making so much money that nobody would dream of closing it.
  2. On today's Tanker Tuesday, something marvellous occurred.

Ekphobippe (dark/ice/energy) hit level 50. This makes her my 15th level 50 tanker, my second on Champion, and I believe my 29th overall.

Had a blast running Sara Moore, too. As always, an honor and a privilege.

It had ever been my understanding that WP was meant as an offense oriented set. Willpower tankers were expected to rely on attacks rather than auras to hold aggro. As such, they had more endurance than other tankers had, and a weaker aura. But inherent Stamina diminished that advantage somewhat, if it did not erase it completely.

I have never taken Unstoppable on an Invuln tanker, and I have 3 at 50. On my Invuln brute I have it. Then again Willpower is so much of a better deal than Invuln is for brutes that I don't see all that many new ones being made.

The only thing that really gives me issues is psi, and for that all of them have the Rikti invasion accolade.
  5. Managed to get three of us through Posi 1, had a blast. Level 10 fire tank is actually fun to play vs. Vahz. Your self heal gives poison resistance too. Final mission had a couple wipes, mostly due to a DC.

Also gussied up the TankHQ base on Guardian a bit (Pillars! Must have more pillars!), added more tankers to the SG, and added a medbay.
  6. And a volume is a tome, a book in a series of books.
  7. I am enjoying it. Helps to be a Jeopardy champion; there's not only puzzles but trivia in the game. Heraclea on Arcadia server.

It looks to me as if fully built characters will be very versatile and there may not be a "level cap" in that sense. This takes the sting out of only having 3 characters with very limited customization; no size sliders, for instance.

I trust Funcom. Anarchy Online is still around despite a horrible launch and rough first season, and it's eleven years old now. Age of Conan is the other MMO I play a lot currently (Heraclea and others on Set) and it has matured into a very rich niche game with plenty of content and interesting entry tier raids.

When I wrote my Willpower guide to holding aggro, the number and quality of AoE attacks was always an important consideration. Then again, I always recommended that Willpower characters get Stamina anyways: Fitness played to their strengths. But now that Fitness is inherent for Willpower too, builds I didn't like for being way too tight, like WP/DB, became a lot more feasible. It's easy now to get all the combos.

I respecced and played my Freedom WP/DB tanker last Tanker Tuesday. Picked up Tough and Weave; never had them before, and always relied on SoW if it was up. The character worked fairly well.
  9. Macte virtute esto, Andreas. Ave atque vale.

    Well done. Hail and farewell.
  10. Just want to say that I thank Celestriel for putting this together.

    Where to now?

I've started playing Secret World. Funcom as a business has serious problems, but they stand by their games. Anarchy Online is still up.

My usual characters don't really fit into the game world, so I've made adjustments.
  12. My highest on Champion is 9 or 10, and I am out of transfers, so I'll be up for a lowbie team.
  13. One problem with the weak taunt aura is that in large scrums I'm never really sure how tough I actually am. Was I surviving the aggro? or did I even have it? My impression is that WP was not nearly as tough as Inv without tough and weave; with both of them it became comparable but never really as strong.

In the end, I played my WP tankers on my home server less; the job of being main tank for master runs and the like fell to my Inv/DM tanker, who is the toughest character I ever built. Then again, almost all of my non-WP tankers take Energy Mastery for Physical Perfection and Conserve Power. My WP tankers usually get Earth Mastery, for big AoEs.
  14. Honora, an ice/mace tanker on Freedom.

  15. Heraclea has one eye. Lost it to a manticore in the arena. Sometimes she uses a glass one. Other times she just wears the patch.

  16. The metric system is the work of the Devil. We speak English here, so we use quarts.

    My farewell

Stay classy and stay in touch --- until the future!
  19. I am not seeing grounds for a lawsuit. The 'rights grab' seems to me to be mostly chest-puffing. City of Heroes, like lots of other software, is useful and in fact used to create brand new 'intellectual property'.

Every character and bio you made in the game is a new IP that belongs to you. The EULA is basically saying that NCsoft gets to use your characters itself. Your character could have been added to a City of Heroes advertisement, movie, novel, or comic without your consent. It also says that if they had, for instance, lost the Marvel lawsuit, NCsoft could have sued players who made Wolverines and Hulks.

Before you could sue, you'd have to show damages. Specifically, you'd have to show a court how this particular provision in the EULA cost you money. Simply saying that NCsoft holds a perpetual license to all my characters won't get you anywhere unless you can also prove that this costs you something.

If, for instance, NCsoft developed a hit movie based on a player's City of Heroes character, that player might at least be able to claim that she had been harmed by the provision. She would likely lose, based on the contract provision: when she made a character in the creator, she gave that right to NCsoft. You and I can't even get that far.
  20. Some time ago I made a thread for characters with short biographies that compressed complex concepts into very few words.

In cataloguing my characters, I'll probably find some more I like.

Honora, level 30 ice/mace tanker (Freedom)

    Quote:
One day, Honora was given a mace. One day she held it aloft and said, "By the surly beard of Mrifk," for reasons which are best left unstated. This put her in touch with Grignr, her long lost brother from a parallel universe, and allows her to channel the same source that gives him his power.
  21. Heraclea

    I remember....

An offline character creator is the eventual plan, by my understanding.
  22. Like it or not, PvP is one of the chief sources of rancor in other game communities.

One thing this game does right that others don't is to clearly separate PvP mechanics from PvE mechanics. In a PvP zone, your character becomes a different character. This has always been pretty much the case. When PvP nerfherding and complaining carries over to PvE, things get especially bad.

But the main thing has always been that this game has always catered to creative people more than to competitive people. The care people put in creating characters, concepts, bases, costumes, AE missions, and roleplay spills over.
  23. Girl, 7 lb 11 oz, 21", Oct. 14.

    I like perilX's guess of "Mar. 30".

We all get a say in the name now, right?
  24. L33ter than you'll ever be!
