  1. Kinetic Melee or Stone Melee? These are the only two brute melee sets I don't have and I can't make up my mind which to take. Secondary is Shield and I solo a lot ("tanking" occasionally for groups).

Edit: Never mind. I prefer Stone Melee, but the hammers look odd swung one-handed. So going with Kinetic Melee. Might end up ignoring both and just making another Electrical melee toon. :P

  3. Ah thanks guys, sorry missed the announcement plus I thought maintenance was on Thursdays. Oh well, try again tomorrow then.
  4. I only ask because I see no-one else asking and yet out-of-the-blue I can't get past login. An hour or so ago I was able to login just fine, then about half-an-hour ago I went to log back in and I got past the login to the point where you choose servers except they were all three grey dots. This happened twice in a row. However now when I go to login I get the 'Possible local network issue or login server is down' message. Scratching my head over this one as I've got no local network issues, I can connect to websites and other online games fine still -- just not CoH game servers. I also haven't changed anything, my subscription is paid up, the servers are up (according to the website), it's not the usual maintenance day and yes I have all the required ports for port forwarding set-up in my router. I wouldn't post this here except I can't find the tech support forum I'm sure that used to exist.

    Shield/?

Hmm elec might work. Dm would look a little odd with my costume. Yeah the more I think about it the more it appeals to me. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Shield/?

I've got a level 18 shield/energy melee tank that's not doing a lot for me. The shield side of things is fine and he tanks quite well, but the few times I go solo I'm finding it a very hard slog with EM (power usage versus miss ratio combined with slow recharge isn't make it fun). Other than super strength (got 1 tank, 3 brutes with that already), what's recommended for reasonable (as far as tanks go) DPS? Or what just seems to go well with shields?
  7. *sigh*... Just spent 2 hours playing another game I didn't really feel like playing, waiting for these servers to come back up. Don't make me go back and play it again!

Something really mustn't have gone well with the maintenance/patching...
  8. Ahh ok. I'm another one who finds they can't read the numbers and who thought it was a bug. Heck if they want to add tiny numbers for people with monitors the size of football stadiums, couldn't they just add a toggle to the options for 'People who have ridiculously large monitors/People who need a microscope to read the font'?
  9. Ok thanks very much for your reply. I agree that it seems like a bug although an official response might have been nice (to your report). I might just assume it is and keep the toon for now.
  10. Heya, I just made a new MA/SD toon and I noticed that when I have any of my shield defences active, the new punch animations wouldn't play, although they work fine when they are turned off. Is this working as intended or a bug?

I'm asking because if it is working as intended, I think I'll be swapping out of SD.
  11. To the OP: Originally I would have agreed with you as my attitude towards the AE was very similar, however that has changed gradually since it was released. Overall there are three things caused my change in attitude:

    1) Making my own arc, which although it's not published yet, has been quite a fun challenge. Due to illness I haven't been able to be creative in the ways that I used to be for quite time time (and that's not been easy to handle), but the AE system has allowed me to enjoy and capture that feeling again to a certain extent. Actually that's also why I like the costume system. I spend a lot of time designing costumes and characters. So there is fun to be had in being creative rather than just beating/blowing/zapping/ripping things up.

    2) Running arcs with my own small group of friends, both arcs they have written (they are a talented bunch), as well as trying out arcs written by others, has been some of the most fun any of us have had in the game -- if you play the right arcs with the right group of people, it's a heck of a lot of fun.

    3) The realisation and acceptance of the fact that farmers and power levelers exist, but you don't have to mix with them if you don't want to (and vice versa of course). People have their own reasons as to why they play, and why they enjoy a game. Unfortunately that doesn't always match up with (and can sometimes be totally in opposition to) our own reasons. For me this just means I avoid Atlas Park just a little more than I used to.

I still run the original content and enjoy it, although I think a lot of it CoH-side could do with a revamp to bring it up to the same standard as some of the content in CoV. However that's because I'm a story/theme orientated player. For me the joy is mostly in the journey. Lately on the two MMO's I play (currently that is CoH/LOTRO) I've noticed that a common thread between a lot of the newcomers I've encountered is that they tend to be more goal orientated ie. it's about getting to the destination more than the journey. Mind you in the case of LOTRO it's often due to them being into PvP, which you can't really do all that effectively (outside of playing a 'creep') without getting to the end-game. Basically it's different strokes for different folks, and that was harder for me to learn with regards to LOTRO since I'm a bit of a Tolkien nut.

I hope that makes sense. My brain isn't exactly firing on all cylinders at the moment.

Edit: In a blinding flash of the obvious it just occurred to me that really the AE and any possible negative aspects impacts those who PuG much more than those who just team with people they know. When I first got into MMO's (and even back in my MUD days) I spent a lot of time in PuG's. These days for my own sanity and enjoyment I only team with people I know. SG's/VG's/Kins/Clans are the only way to go now. If you find a group of people you get on with, stick to them like glue. Do this, and some of the issues you have with the AE will become moot. Unless you are just objecting on principal (I have a bad habit of doing that sometimes), in which case there is no simple solution.
  12. Re: the whole PS3 keyboard issue: I suspect very much that they will build voice chat into the engine, both for the PS3 version and the PC. Some newer MMO's seem to be going that way now. LOTRO certainly has and I expect others too as well (if they haven't already). Not that I'm a fan of it to be honest, especially as now in LOTRO you can have problems getting a group at times if you don't voice chat as some group leaders insist that you do. My problem is it ruins the immersion a little when you find yourself teamed with a dwarf with a strong Mexican accent (_NOT_ a dig at Mexicans - dwarves seem to get cast as Scots a lot so I'm used to that more) and a female elf hunter with a deep booming voice... Not that it matters so much in a Super Hero game I guess. Plus there are already a number of people who use Ventrilo and similar while playing (not me though). Anyhow, that's the direction I'm expecting it to head.

Of course voice chat doesn't solve all the issues and a keyboard might still be needed.
  13. It's probably at worst impossible, at best impractical (extra strain on the servers for no real reason), but I'd like to have NPC armed henchmen in bright orange jumpsuits and hardhats randomly wandering around my base. Without them I just don't feel like a megalomaniac in charge of a sinister organisation attempting to take over the world. I'm serious about NPC's btw, but not necessarily in that configuration. It feels empty in the base when no-one else is around.

Or even better: An AI construct. Maybe even just as a hologram generated by a device (doesn't have to wander - just animate in the projection unit).

Being able to turn wall trim off so you don't end up with odd mismatched sections when you have items too close to the wall.
  14. Or we could have it renamed to "Momentary Lapse of Reason" so that it fits in better with those occasions where we use it - and wished we hadn't.

OK, I'm not sure where you guys are coming from with the whole "everything is good enough" attitude. The animation speed sucks. Period. I hate how it takes at least half a second to aim before firing the MM pistol(s). This may not seem like much, but that's a half-second longer to use inspirations, a half-second longer to activate another power... it adds up. Why cant the single-shot be like the pets'? Also, I would appreciate greatly a choice of weapons at the beginning (a sub-power set menu) so you could choose from a variety of different weapons (pistols, automatic pistols, uzi, sniper rifle, rocket launcher[may be a bit too powerful for starting weapon], nail gun[Like the one in F.E.A.R.], MAYBE A LAPTOP GUN! COOL! sentry turret and machine gun in one!, etc.)
IF pistols are the only choice, they should be a bit beefier in damage, or at least give all powers in the set slight chance to knockback (would give impression of more stopping power)
Would it be out of the question to choose different weapons? Like maybe at lvl 20 get another gun?
If you only can change one of these things, definately beef up the pistol dmg, sound and knockbackness. Thanks

While I don't agree with Rage on the animation time of the pistols, I think they're really fast and stylish.

I do agree we NEED a different Pistol for our MM. It was itching at me for a long while, and I just realized why I don't like our Pistol for Thugs MM. Whats the problem with it you say? The pistol is LONGBOW STANDARD ISSUE. Every low level Longbow minion uses this exact gun, and it is eventually faded out of use.

So, I have to wonder, why is my Thugs MM using a Standard Issue that is only used by low level Longbow? And why the heck am I using Longbow weaponry anyways?!

Otherwise, I am LOVING the Thugs MM Set to death.

That would be because often models are reused. Take a long hard look at the machine gun used by the 1st tier Mercs and then go look at the one used by certain Council operatives. They are exactly the same. It's not a dig at Cryptic/Play NC btw. This is pretty normal for most game developers.
