I been playing with a Whips/Poison (no pets) build for a while now and its ok in a team. not that great solo, obviously. So kinda liking that my MM can go back to a MM build and poison can be played with on something a little more survivable now. Just my opinion...

The only money making game in the NCSOFT portfolio and they are mucking it up... Insanity. I fully expect the victory community as it stands today will move to the VIP server at that point. I mean seriously this entire thing sounds like a bad idea for the people that have been paying for YEARS!!! and it looks like new content will be pay to unlock from now on. so we will have to pay twice. Its just pissing people off.
Personally I'm glad I'll be testing GW2 soon and I can walk away knowing the best years of COX is behind me. -
lol I'm not as worried about the people that play on victory cause we have a pretty tight and active group imo. but I was just getting flashbacks of other games when I had to join a queue to get a group, and then after like 30min waiting around we all get in and there is no team structure or anythign and it just ends up being a total fail. thats what I am basically wondering if this is going to happen here? can we form up a team and stay together before stating a leauge? I honestly can not get a straight answer on this from the devs or testers now. just wiggin at the thought is all.
-
OK I have played games that use anyone can queue systems to form teams. Here is the more then typical result.
1: team forms people take 1 look at each other and say NO WAY! and quit.
2: A random person has no idea whats happening and ultimate team fail till people quit.
3: no one uses it and does somethign else instead.
4: Everything takes 3x the time it should have and people never want to do it again.
5: People join and its all weak build n00bs and they can not win the battle cause there is no tanks and no healers.
Common outcome. FAIL.
Just curious, Personally I hope we can still form teams the way we always have in the past for these things. But if this becomes the norm, I can see a whole new level of rage team quiters emerging. -
OK this is the thing right.
Personally IRL, I have no one in my life. I'm the next thing to an agoraphobic suicidal socialpath. this is litteral. I trust no one anymore, I have no friends or family to speak of, and every person I have ever cared about has abused that and used me to advance and then thrown me in the trash after.
I am self employed so I rarely have to leave my home. The 1 year in the past ten I was working full time out of the house was tourture, but I did it for someone else. When that reason was gone so too was I from life.
Now on to the COV game itself.
I help run a Gaming clan which used to play MANY games, but the one and only division that has survived is City of Villians.
This game runs on current and older equipment. That is a HUGE thing for all of us.
This game is fairly cheap with the monthly subscription.
This game allows us to build up super groups and form online friendships and collect goods for your teammates.
This game allows you to take out your frustrations of life and distract from your own issues.
This game creates a comminuty that you can live or die in as you wish and when the community stinks you can move on and play solo.
Put simpily its a well rounded game that works on just about anything, and you can play it however you want. If you use stratagy then you save up for the best of the best and make the ultimate build.
If your more social its all about the costume creator and your unique look.
Some people prefer making missions, and that is where AE is beautiful.
I pay my subscription till something better comes along. Thus far everything else out there is unappealing. I own STO, WOW, AION, CHAMPIONS, AND GW. the only other game I play or the MMORPG veriaty is Guild Wars. And that is only because it is free to play and always wil be. Guild wars expansions and sequels will ALWAYS and FOREVER get my first spendable dollar because of that factor alone. All the others are bookself fooder, and worse total failures as games. Champions being the WORST I have ever played of any MMORPG EVER!!! When the lifetime subscription came up I was like for what 2 months? No thnaks. A lifetime for COV would be purchased in an instant if ever offered.
COV has all the right aspects in a susseful MMORPG, save for one. It is not 1 game. Rouge fixes that major factor. Future expansions should just be new TF style missions similar to that in RWZ and Chimerora.
The only WRONG aspect that COV has atm is the economy factor on the markets going crazy because of money resellers. Market caps or ceilings SHOULD be in place, or in more reality lowered from 1billion to say 100million MAX. Even purples. Why? Because of the other half of this. Drops formulas need to be readjusted so that playing the game is not a grind for merits or tickets or whatever to get some POS random role, but to be able to play and get a reward for your effort as you used too. 1 Repect should be equal to 1 random drop as it used to be. and so on.
However I continue to play because the design content is fun, the TFs are fun to master, and I try my best to take a different path through contacts through the 30s 40s as much as possibile so each toon has some veriaty in it. But even I have to admit the 1-10 path is so much a waste of my time from boredom, I am looking forward to Rouge so I have a new way to roll a toon. Especially on Heroes side, which I dont think makes much since at all till about lev 30. Its like by the time COV came out they knew how to do missions, and how to orginize them. content from that point on works but prior does not. So Rouge will fix that aspect as well.
A lot rides on Going rouge for me to continue to pay to play. Otherwise once Guild wars 2 comes out I will devote 100% of free time into that game and gladly walk away from COV.
Rouge MUST find a way to keep friends together, must find a way to bring an influx of material to balence out the market. sorry folks no 1 item in the game should EVER be worth more then 100million. thats just insane. At least make the market depreicate or something. If a 1billion item sits on the market for 6 months it needs a discount at the sellers expense or taken out of the market pool so that it will lower to a reasonable price.
IMHO such high prices does nothing but drives people to cheat and break the ROC and EULA in the act of buying in game currency just to keep up. that is NOT a good market. Again that is MY opinion on it. I will never buy game money. I have had banned as many as possible from GW. And i do not believe in it UNLESS the publishing company themselves choose to do so and in doing so change the ROC and EULA. -
I think we are playing around with Times and days, so we can see what has the best turnout. But we defiantly want to make this a regular thing for everyone that is interested.
BTW, I got a little birdie telling me we can expect something equally as big as Hami raids in going rouge... Praetorian Hami Bigger Badder harder, better rewards... Just saying.
Blue side Hami raids have not been worked out yet But I know Gris is interested in getting them going as well.
All of these are great practice for whats to come. Keep that in mind. -
LOL So many times we were just 1 death off of this title. lol Ah well, Now that its "fixed" ?? I guess its lots easier to get. I was just happy to come along. Hopefully we will get it again some day.
Just remember how many times it took us to get MLRSF too and now we have it down to what? about 40 mins tops? We will get MLGSF down to the same I'm sure soon... as was I think our failed attempts at master were just under 1 hour. Gotta love our Victory Coalition Bambi... We may be a small community server but we are pretty tight in comparision and we get to do so much together. Its just awesome... Now if only we could all be in the same Timezone... hahhahaha.. -
lol It was fun even with the confusion. Its always nice to fill a zone and dominate it.
Leaders being in TS was very helpful as always. Broadcast and local chats worked great, But I am betting a lot of people were not seeing the purple request chat which is where we were relaying commands as an echo to what we were saying in Teamspeak.
Remember folks Everyone is welcome in our coalition Teamspeak server. For such events we MAY (I stress MAY) limit voice allowances but everyone hearing REALLY helps. As a rule everyone can talk. we only limit it to +Voice mode when we get to many in one room to be productive. All Coalition Leaders will have at the least operator status, and Some that are a part of our Gaming Clan as a whole will have Channel admin status.

Which is an acceptance to our TOS (quoted below)
Please feel free to join us in the City of Villains Legion channel.
Quote:=HT=IngramPermissions:
* The HT Team Speak server is primarily intended for HT Members, Moderators and community members.
* All HT members may be registered users on TS.
* Non-HT members simply login as 'anonymous'.
* HT Council Members are Server Administrators.
Usage:
* If you use the voice activation microphone option, be sure to set it correctly so unnecessary noise is not picked up but also so we can hear you clearly. Hearing heavy breathing and muttering really doesn’t aid communication.
* TS users should use the same name as they are playing with. (Or Global common name we all know you as in game)
* People who join using a "Guest" name will be asked to leave and re-enter with a unique user name.
* TS is intended to enhance communication during game play, game channels are not a place to hang out and chat, play music, do impersonations etc., especially during a game.
* Any statement that is disrespectful, hurtful, unkind, degrading, harassing or otherwise perceived to be such could be deemed abuse and a violation.
* No spying on the other team (PvP). In cases where large opposing teams are in different channels, you can not "hide" in the opposing teams channel. Opposing teams can play in the same channel if agreed by the players.
* Ghosting, in games that the term may apply to, is strictly prohibited. The last breath callout is legal play where a player can call out their location and enemies as they die but nothing thereafter. If you can't type it to them in the game, then don't say it over TS.
* Be fair, if this is unfairly abused then access rights to TS will be rescinded.
* Any violation will result in kick and/or ban as Admins see fit.
* We are all here to have fun and kick some butt!! lol So please keep it fun for everyone. -
I'll be down with F Kin. Lets put this up on our FB events and HT events as reminders?

You know it seems the Email system is linked tothe global chat servers, and since they are down so is email atm... Why would they just not added an account storage option, IE: a vault that you can put stuff into (money, recipies, salvage, enhancments) that was limited to the magical determined 20 items, and then allow that to be accessable to any of your toons on the account. this email to thing is a nice thing I guess but too prone to abuse IMHO. an account storage mule option would not be able to be abused.
3 known problems I have seen thus far.
1: Dup exploit. Dev know about it. Dont want to get into detail how it was done, but it was being done.
2: Spam flood/ loss of items in e mail system. If your toon had its mailbox flooded with more then 20 email spam and you sent an item to your global. go to login and all the sudden the stuff you sent is lost. (also No return option for flood spam error)
3: Gold reseller (IE ROC EULA violators) can and do expoit the use of this system to sell money and items in the game for real money.
All of these would have been avoided if they allowed somethign as simpile as the character vault become account storage rather then per character. And added 2 fields for infamy and influence storage. Bingo problem solved and no exploits. -

This is probably why Statesman and whoever else left, a playerbase FILLED with spoiled brats.

Are you kidding me? OK wait just a min. We are Customers... If some of these people have been here since the very beginning the have spent well over $650 for this god dam game. That does not make them spoiled brats or any other BS you want to say. It makes them customers that expect something of value for their money... They have paid for a game that by any standard could just as easily been free to play and had about the same content with 3 expansions for far less of a cost to their users. But this was the model they chose for what its worth. They do not get to have it BOTH ways.
You can not in one breath disenfranchise the people that pays your bills and turn around and expect them to keep paying extra for content that should be free to them considering how much these games cost a user to maintain.
I have only been in the game 4 months true, so I only have $84.99 in, but I also stocked up on time cards for several months as well, so I actually have $129.99 in the game at the moment. that does NOT make me a spoiled brat, that makes me a god dam paying customer, so don't give me your bull garbage about being spoiled. I paid for this out the nose! And thus far the only thing of value in it I find? My friends that are also suckers and paying out the nose. If anything that does not make us spoiled, it makes us Stupid for doing business with a company that thinks so poorly of their paying customers.
Now Obviously I will not waste my money on such a poorly conceived and overpriced addon. and at least its only an optional thing. But if they start making this a regular event with equally irrelevant addon packs for similar prices... I don't think the paying user base will remain as loyal as they have been...
NOT buying the items will encourage them to rethink this poor strategy. That does not make us Spoiled! That makes us Smart consumers!!! -

quick reply:
I'm not a fan of paying for so little content. A few costumes and emotes is not much for the money. If it was $1.99, I might buy it, but not at the price of $9.99.
I don't like microtransactions and don't play games that use them extensively. I'm all for monthly fees and paid boxed expansions, but those expansions better have some decent content, not just a few costume pieces.

It actually just occurred to me that this may have something to do with credit-card negotiations and minimum payments.
Some shops refuse to run a credit card for less than $5, as their Visa/Mastercard fees eat them alive if they do.
I know that there are some ways around it, but it might not be available for so few transactions.
So this may not be entirely NCSoft's decision, but a limitation on their current contract for running credit cards.

Nope NCSoft store has things as cheap as $5.99 for other games... so this is not the case.
As to the other BS about paying a subscription so expansion are suppose to be free... Look I came from GuildWars and WoW. I left WoW after the 1st month of play because quite frankly the game was not worth paying a continual subscription to participate in . So I now play it on illegal free servers... Which magically get huge free updates all the time. Illegally of course.
I also played GW from teh early Betas, and continue to play it today because it is a Free to play MMO, with Paid Expansions... Thats its model...
WoW, had Expansions and every word I ever heard on both of them was that they were a huge waste. Not so on GW. Every expansion in GW was a Huge success. Simply because each one had enough added content, Even the least successful of which still drew in millions of players each time.
Now I come to CoV. And I have to say I respect the idea of expansions. Indeed I would easily pay 29.99 for a HUGE campaign like expansion for CoX. Like a Space addon or whatever in the tradition of EQ2 going to the moon... But such a paid expansion I would expect a significant boost upgrade for my dollar... Higher level caps, More storage, Or real account storage. Some NEW instanced mission maps (not just the 5 or so we have now reskinned), and a large explorable persistent area. (IE New towns)
Now some of the issues in the past were hardly what I would call a expansion equivalent. maybe 3 or 4 of them put together... Essentially each issue were small little updates to the overall game design as I see it. And yes those would be what I would expect from a subscription based game for free... The last 3 together; 9, 10, and 11; could have easily been an expansion. I would have paid for those easily on top of subscription.
If they want to go to that model OK , but be straight with us. Dont dinker with us with stupid addons that only a moron with no sence of any value to money would purchase... A paid addon for a subscription based game MUST be of real value to be deserved. Indeed it would be just as easy for moders to take this engine and make illegal free to play servers for this game as well. But it has not happened... why? because the developers have treated their players as loyal customers.. and have provided content that has been worth the monthly subscription fee with the ongoing issue development...
But out of the blue having this has really shocked this community it seems. It makes us all look like idiots for doing business with NCSoft at all, as they throw what can only be called an insulting slap in the face at the community and just expect us all to pay up and shut the hell up, and be happy you got anything at all, paid for or otherwise.
I detest Pay to play games. Always have, always will. But I do pay for this one, because I felt welcome here, and have a very good group of friends online in a successful Villain SG and large coalition. I am proud of that. They are what keeps me here. Cause trust me if they were NOT here, I would be back in Guildwars in a heartbeat.
The point is up until this day. CoX was a good place to enjoy wasting a little money and have a good feeling that it is going to make things better for everyone in the paying of it... This paid addon with so little in it is a step towards a trend... that MUST not be allowed to happen to this game... Cause if it does we will all find ourselves paying extra for Every little thing, and suddenly our Subscriptions are meaningless costs with no value given to them by a player or the company.
That is what we all fear NCSoft will do to this previously successful game. Sure it lost some profitability in the last year. what game hasn't? Even the mighty WoW has lower numbers and they have 2 full expansions in that last year... That just goes to show that the people playing these games VALUE what they pay for and if they do not see that Value in the paying of it they move on. This is fact!!!!
The One thing a Company does NOT want to do is Drive them away by starting to charge even more for even less. and that is the possible trend we all see with this addon if it is repeated with somethign else equally as undervalued... Its just not worth the price. nothing in it is... and to expect the community to just pay up and be happy with it. Its insulting... And quite frankly I am starting to feel like I would have rather Cryptic just had said, it was a good run folks. were closing the doors now, instead of selling out to NCSoft and leaving all the loyal customers to the wolves. -
I have to agree on this... At the very least they could have included 15days or something with it... for that cost. Just IMHO...
Honestly I love to support the game, but IDK if I am willing to just hand them $10 for pretty much nothing...
Like other people have said. unlike GW the other successful MMO NCSoft runs. This is a pay to play game. and as such we already pay out the nose for content in comparison.
And Addon packs needs to be ultra useful, not just a few costume pieces and emotes.. A mission arc, a jetpack, a major feature or teleport function, or some subscription time along with it. Something to justify the extra money on top of what we already pay for with our subscription...
