  1. I play on Protector because the second time I logged on to play, I forgot which server I had originally made my first character and chose Protector because I liked the name. Then I learned that it had a low population so I inferred that it would have a lower load and fewer jerks by number.

    And I'm anti-social, anyway.

Please clarify and state that there is an error here. And, after watching some redone crap version of Return of the Jedi, I hope never to hear about George Lucas and Hayden Christensen ever again (but I know that I will be disappointed).
  3. "Please disperse; nothing to see here."

Not a movie quote but something that makes me giggle:

"Please panic in a calm and orderly fashion."
  4. Ozmosis/Yce told me about this and I didn't see anyone post it for the Protector shut-ins. This is someone else's video and I'm too lazy to find out to give credit.

This video is almost half an hour long.

Some info about Going Rogue, with some Dual Pistols video and graphical updates.
  5. As far as the server status affecting downloads: I don't know.

As far as having to download anything when the expansions are pushed to live: Everyone has to download those in order to be able to continue playing any aspect of the game, even if the expansion is not purchased, so that your system can render anything new that the expansion contains, such as costume pieces and environmental graphic updates to city zones. It's highly doubtful that they would make a separate download for expansion-exclusive zones like whatever Praetoria might be.

So, even if you don't buy Going Rogue, your system will have to download and install it. And there will most likely be a pre-download weeks before the issue is intended to go live.
  6. Thanks again, gang. I appreciate the help.
  7. Many thanks for the help (even houtex! )

If anyone looks in again, how does this laptop look for $800.00?

It looks like a great deal, but I'm not too familiar with laptop graphics cards and I couldn't find any useful information on the GT series from nVidia, but I did find information on their GTS and GTX series.

Again, I can spend about $1500.00, but if I can find something really good for significantly less, it would be great.
  8. Hopefully posting this question here isn't against the rules, and I trust this community for help.

I'm looking to get a new laptop. I'd like to keep it under $1500.00. Gaming on it isn't a priority, but it would be very nice if it had that capability. I was looking at a Dell XPS system. I know that some people don't like Dell, but I have an older Dell desktop and I've been satisfied with Dell, overall, although I'm not limiting to only getting a Dell. I've looked around at newegg.com, but I'm not very familiar with laptops and what to really look for regarding them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  9. Sorry, gang, but I got caught up again with something. I'll have to post-pone my own participation until I can be sure of when I'll have time.
  10. Sorry, gang. Something came up earlier in the day and this is the first chance I got to post.

Tonight is going to have to be called off. I can do this tomorrow, Saturday, any time between 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm Eastern. I'll have to log off by 8:30 or so. Who ever can make it is welcome.

If we don't to it this Saturday, this will have to be post-poned indefinitely as I can't make any commitments in advance for a while. When I can, I'll resume the tour.
  11. Do exactly what you did to put the image in your post, but put it in the text area of your signature--not the upload nor image fields.
  12. Okay, let's plan for Friday, around 7:00 pm Eastern. Send me a tell or post on the forum if you're interested.
  13. The Freakshow will never suspect me.

Oh and that question was, since most everyone seems to have missed it:

The 'trend' is that too many players using AE only want easy Experience/rewards. The Fire/Kin is either at the top or close to the top of the list for preferred/effective farming AT's.

As for the 50 tank, that takes a little more guesswork but here are some possibilities.
    1. They would have all the possible powers/slots available.
    2. They might have slotted Purple sets.
    3. IMO, the most likely reason is this. With farm maps that spawn lvl 54's, the team has a better chance of staying alive (and keeping the tank alive) if said aggro magnet is lvl 50. Especially considering that a natural sk could only be as high as lvl 49 and an auto-SKd tank would be even less.
In other words, he has some specific criterium/criteria for teaming. Gee.

  16. I am available for this tonight, Thursday, at any time and possibly tomorrow, Friday at any time, but there has been a small alteration in what is available; Talos and Brickstown are now in the Random list.

    Certain:

    Atlas Park
    Steel Canyon

    Random:

    Kings' Row
    Skyway
    Independence Port
    Talos Island
    Brickstown

    Not available:

    Founders' Falls

Post or send me a tell in game if you are interested. Global handle is the same as my forum name.

Paint Shop Pro 8 appears to be free for download from CNet Downloads, but I haven't looked at that much. It looks like that download does not include the Animation Studio, so I don't know if it will handle animated GIFs, but that would seem odd if it does not.

The devs have given us release dates in the past. They also stated that the release dates were always tentative, depending on whether the Issue was ready for release. I can't remember which Issue it was (it could have been Issue 5, as BigMoney states) but they wound up not releasing on the date they had given. Then, some of the players got irate and flamed the boards castigating the devs for breaking a promise--which the devs had not made; as I said, the release date was tentative.

So, they stopped giving projected release dates. Give some thanks to our fellow idiots (and i don't mean the devs).

I believe they did consider non-beta accounts accessing the Character Creator to be a bug. I stated this earlier in the thread:

I might be mis-remembering things, but I do believe the devs have stated that they have been wanting to lock out the log-in for a while, if not, always, but they didn't have the resources to work on it and it wasn't important enough to give it enough effort. Now, they have more staff.

THAT is what comes across via word-of-mouth. Closed Beta is not for building excitement. It's for beta testing in a "closed" environment where they can break things and put them back together without people seeing this and getting turned off.

ie. No one wants to eat a hotdog after they see one getting made.
That is significantly different from allowing access to the Character Creator during the closed phase. In this instance, they would be giving currently active subscribers (and whomever they let into their living room) access to preview the new and improved™ Character Creation process, not experience game-play. In the process, they would open up the game to a lot of "free" chatter and exposure and possibly displace other games from media prominence.

And it would not be much different than what they had exposed at Comic-Con, but on a larger scale.

I'm not against closing the access, though; I just think they did a real disservice to themselves by not giving a small announcement before they set up the closed beta that it might be a little more closed than it ever was. That would have gone a long way toward alleviating the OUTRAGE!!! from some of the players.

Did they not know that they wanted to lock out the log-in for this beta? Is this a little incidental bonus to the features? They would only do themselves good by stating if that is so.

I'm not familiar with that program but it looks like the version that most people would be able install easily to use on Windows is the first in the list here:

    ImageMagick Windows, 16 bit version

My understanding, as I posted earlier, is that they have wanted to lock out the log-in for a long time, if not, always. I have absolutely no problem with them wanting to do that.

However, once again, they made a simple failure that has only emotional, though significant, impact on a small part of the player base--only a small part, but the worst part of the player base to provoke: the overly-reactive.

Just a simple announcement like, "Hey, we're trying out a lot of new features and one of them is the log-in system, so this Beta might seem a little more closed than other tests. We're working hard, but have patience; we expect this to go quickly and smoothly," would have gone a very, very long way toward preventing a lot of angst. Probably. We would have seen it as the marketing B.S. it obviously is, but we would be able to point to something definite and be ameliorated. Maybe.

The worst part about it is that they failed to take such a simple, precautionary, pre-emptive step.

Earlier, that code did not appear to be working, which is why folks were able to see the character creator.

The servers have been taken down (meaning, not even Beta testers can get to it at the moment) until this issue is fixed.

Now, amid the cries of "Unfair!" and "Why change this now?" I'll explain the purpose of this code change. What we've done is instituted a "Queue" server, so that on really busy weekends, Freedom won't be listed as "unavailable" if it is full, it will simply put you into the "next available slot" queue. Hopefully, this will alleviate some of the issues that crop up from the full server problem.
I appreciate the information and the "leak" of the new log-in technology, but this is still rather convoluted and a straight answer would also be appreciated.

Will only Beta Testers be able to access the Character Creator at all? Will non-beta accounts be able to get into the queue and eventually get to the Character Creator?

If non-beta will not be able to get to it at all, I strongly suggest changing that, unless, as I said before, there are some other secret, market-breaking features or that you are testing other features like the functionality of that new log-in system. With the other games in development, that would be a marketing boondoggle; you could get so much interest and "free" coverage and possibly displace the competition in the media.

(The saddest part of posting this is that I believe that there is a slim chance that the people at Paragon Studios might not have seriously considered the marketing value of allowing free access to the Character Creator.)

I'm...not sure...but I think that means they're going to fix it so that everyone can get to the Character Creator.

But I could be really, really wrong on that. If any devs are looking here, please reconsider if you are going to lock the Character Creator; it's a very bad marketing move unless there is some seriously secret, market-shattering stuff that's coming.
