Honestly, I doubt they'll care, unless you actually do cancel your sub. Why should they, when this forum is always lousy with people claiming that they're going to cancel because NCSoft has done something utterly atrocious, and yet a month later they're still here to threaten to cancel about something else? By now, I doubt promises to cancel even register a blip on the radar, still less someone saying they might cancel.

As long as people keep ponying up the $$$, they can complain all they like on the forums. If you really want them to believe you, then cancel and tell them why in the exit questionnaire.

Previously, some powersets were given out in free issues, and some powersets were included in paid-for expansions.

Now, some powersets are given out in free issues, and some powersets can be bought through the Paragon Market.

The main difference is that now, you can save up your subscription PP stipend and with a little patience get *all* the new powersets for the price of your sub.

    END drain

Probably a silly question, but has the system got confused about your VIP status? If it's mistakenly classifying you as Premium, then your Enhancements might be greyed out.

I'll still come out speding less, and NCsoft will, sadly, come out losing 50 dollars a year in this situation.
So, you're complaining that NCSoft is offering you a new option that allows you to spend less money and still access all the game content that you want to access? And you want them to stop doing that and instead go back to the model where you had to pay more, for content you didn't want?

    That's...very charitable.

Dude, they're a commercial organization. You don't have to feel bad about taking advantage of their pricing structure. Cancel your sub and spend the $50 on something else!

I ran up against this one, too. After some fiddling, I found that the Trenchcoat still has the lining colour options available, and changing the colour in there will propagate to the other interior colours. I guess this wouldn't help if you wanted your coat and cape to be different colours, but it's a partial workaround until the bug is fixed.

This is a long-standing issue with Ouro badges. Badge missions will not award any of the Challenge badges, for any of the parameter settings. So you'll have to do them separately, and run through the different challenge settings on non-badge missions.

That is WAI. The issue is that the Challenge options screen should not appear for badge missions, but does. Supposedly, it was something that they're planning to fix, but the bug has been there for an awfully long time now, so maybe they've decided there's no practical solution available.
  9. The Market is inexcusably awful.

I know that programming is hard, and the Paragon studios employees all seem like lovely people, but on-line stores are not new technology and it just should not be as bad as it is. From the ugly, clunky interface to the missing basic functionality, it should never have been sent live.
  10. Ill/Rad Controllers are pretty low maintenance. Drop toggles on bosses, spawn pets when necessary. Be invisible. About the most active thing to do is move around for healing, only no one is getting hurt because of the pets and debuff, so not so much. When I finally got to pick a pool attack, I was quite giddy with excitement at the chance of having something to do.

Actually, if you find repeating content too many time to be boring, speed runs might add some fun to it, as speed running adds another goal to the TF beyond 'get the Merits/iSalvage'. There's always another second to be shaved off the time if things can be done just that little bit better.

  14. Being a crime-fighting superhero would be great but (assuming I was going to get the powers of my main character) I'm not really sure how much use I could be. Basically, she sets things on fire, ranging from a small, zingy, ooh-you-toasted-my-marshmallow-to-perfection flare to a holy-crap-that's-a-lot-of-fire kaboom. Or, occasionally, she lightly chills things and slows them down. So...maybe she could dive into barbequing emergencies and grill a lot of steaks while cooling the beer? Anything else seems like it could be fraught with danger and collateral damage.

    "I stopped the robbers!"

"Well, yes, technically. But their charred corpses are now lying on the pavement next to the building you burned down."

I think, on balance, even if I was trying to helpful then a secret identity would probably be a good idea.
  15. Given the average rat, intermittent rewards are more effective than constant, predictable rewards at getting them to push the lever again.

The iSalvage/Emp Merit combination is an attempt to flash up the big shiny screen of intermittent reward to tickle the rat's brain, while providing a steady progress through the tree for balance and 'fairness', to which hopefully the rat won't pay too much attention.

    In conclusion: Squeak.
  16. Useful market tip that I did not know for a long time, to help checking prices of IOs when you have the recipe:

When you put a recipe in the market, you can click 'Find' to pull it up in search. You can then use the up and down arrows to scroll through the recipe/IOs in the search bar to find the matching crafted IO of the same level. This is an enormous timesaver, and something that isn't immediately obvious (or at least wasn't to me).

    :-)

This is what the Market Forum keeps telling people. Using the market really isn't as traumatic, complicated or time-consuming as people sometimes think.

In that vein, Wing Leader, there's a thread you might be interested in here where someone random rolled Hero Merits and listed everything on the market for 1 inf.

You can use Hero merits to buy one item per 20 hours. That might meant spending anywhere from 1-35 Merits, depending on what you're buying.

This, really. The people who have piles of salvage stocked up are probably the people who enjoy the trials for their own sakes anyway. I have tons of iSalvage stacking up on my main, because I just enjoy running the trials on her.
  20. That field should display the type of subscription on accounts with recurring billing set up (e.g. monthly, 6 monthly). It's working okay on my account screens.
  21. OTOH, the Total Paid Time might not be correct. I've subscribed continuously since I signed up, and my info says:

    Created On: 09 Aug 2008
    Account Type: VIP
    Account Status:Playable
    VIP Until: 09 Oct 2011
    Subscription: 6 Month (£)
    Renewal Date: 09 Oct 2011
Total Paid Time: 2 Years, 1 Months

It's been stuck like this for ages. And yet, the account has the correct number of Reward Tokens, and my Vet Badges always showed up on time.

The difference with CoX, though, is that anyone can create and slot Clarion. I think it's one of the cool things about the Incarnate system, actually -- while on the one hand, the trials set up situations that move away from simple tanking and punching, on the other hand we're being given swappable powers that let any combination of ATs tune themselves to fit the task in hand. It allows the challenges to be more mechanically varied, without locking out particular ATs.

Don't forget that using WW to sell also involves talking to people. Although...do you have /auctionhouse? That would definitely work as some kind of electronic interface to WW. Then you could buy SOs through WW, too! A little more time consuming, but it cuts out a whole lot of interaction in one fell swoop.

Anyway. If you're willing to fudge everything that much to use contacts and stores, then why not just take the extra step and ignore all the mission dialogue? Honestly, there's no need to read most of it, anyway. As long as there are clear enough instructions on the mission compass, the rest can be completely ignored without any functional detriment.

I think that was my original point. Once people have taken the decision to get involved in a trial, they don't then generally switch off all the chat interfaces and refuse to ask any questions or type 'kk' when someone asks them to do something. If Star has something pushing her hard enough to talk to contacts, why isn't it also pushing her hard enough to nod her head, or write 'Yes' on a notebook?

You totally should! But I think you're being a bit half-hearted with it at the moment. If you're going to play a mute character who refuses to interact with people, don't fudge over the bits that make it difficult, go the whole way! If it was me, I'd feel like I wimped out if I clicked on the guards to get into a Hazard Zone, or used a helicopter :-)

Oh! I did think of something else that might help without any need to cheat. If Star only uses salvage that drops for her then she can craft common IOs at the bench in the University without needed to talk to anyone. Recipe drops will be a big help, but if she can get the inf somehow, then she could buy them, too. (Access to base storage in a friendly SG would make that a lot easier, obviously.) I know you don't like IOs, but at least the Commons have matching pictures.

Also, while spending Merits involves personal interaction, Hero Merits don't, as all you need to do for that is click on the box. I started trying to figure out the best way through all that, but then remembered you don't use IOs, so it's moot anyway. But *if* you wanted anything, Fort Trident would be a way to get it, plus if you can use /auctionhouse then it would set Star up with all the Inf she'd ever need.

Heh. Influence is a strange idea, isn't it, for a character who won't interact with others? "Who is that mysterious masked woman?!"

Earth was the first place where she didn't seem terribly out of place just because everything here is so incredibly weird, but even so, Star just doesn't feel right dealing with people. If she's left to her own devices, she'd just hide out in a cave by herself.
I guess I don't really understand why this character would be running missions at all. The contacts system in CoX require your character to walk up to people spontaneously and talk to them. If she's *that* reclusive, what's her motivation to do it in the first place? And if her motive is urgent enough to overcome her reclusive nature, why isn't it strong enough to overcome her refusal to communicate? As soon as you concede the necessity to use contacts, then the concept of the absolute recluse is broken.

It seems like the best way to keep the concept 'pure' would be to avoid 'real' contacts altogether, and level up through streetsweeping and AE. Streetsweeping doesn't require any verbal interaction (although you might need to run away from grateful citizens :-) and AE is no more of a real interaction than reading a book. It doesn't matter if she can't talk in there -- just assume that there's a mechanic within AE which allows her to click the appropriate option when she's playing.

I was wondering about training, too, but Luminary might be someone Star would be comfortable with, and with the updated train lines she's easy to reach. That only leaves buying SOs. Hmm. You mentioned her becoming friends with a group of heroes -- would it feel like cheating if one of your other characters was in that group? Then they could buy the SOs and mail them to her, or drop them in a table in a SG base, so she could pick them up. (And she could leave unwanted drops there, for others to sell, if she didn't want to feel indebted to them.)
  25. Are we allowed to give tips? If so:

While you're working on memorising recipes, don't forget End Mod. There's almost always at least one of levels 30, 35 or 40 making a decent profit.
