If I don't see a Going Rogue commercial during Heroes this season, I'm firing the marketing guy...
Out of my orbital cannon...
BTW, loved the CoH / CoV signs in the comic shop on Big Bang Theory! -
I expect that you will lose your SG affiliation when you switch sides. I don't think this is any real calamity, as long as they let you know before hand so that you are making an informed decision.
-
Nice to have the forums back. Its going to take a little getting used to. Things are a bit sluggish at the moment, but I assume that's because they are getting pounded.
-
I don't know if I am ready for more base love, after the "love" we have gotten in the past
Still, I hold out some tiny hope. Although I don't think we'll see anything new on the decorative side until they decide what they are going to do with bases overall. Why put resources towards building assets that could be invalidated by major changes? -
"Fool Me Once" (Arc ID: 1072) is a riddle arc.
-
I had an arc end with all the strange goings on really being a coincidence...
Does that count as a twist?
I pulled that one because, honestly, it was an unsatisfying resolution to the plot, in my opinion. -
I judge a mission solely by how much I enjoy it. Sometimes its the story that draws me, sometimes its a really well designed custom group, sometimes its using a combination of former groups to come up with something new and cool. Sometimes its just a great and exciting series of non-stop challenging, but not completely overwhelming, battles that makes it fun.
I ran into a mission yesterday that was a variation on what is currently one of the more popular 'farms'. The map was different, the objectives tweaked, but essentially, it was the same. The major difference was that there was indeed a story behind it. It was a fairly good attempt at a story as well, though slightly forced. Not saying it was the best story in the world, mind you, but it was more than just a quick whitewash. I gave it 3 stars because I felt the author deserved some tickets for making this work.
Oh, just FYI, this one was not tagged SFMA, but I would not have taken points off if it had been. There was effort behind the story. -
SLMA works for me. And Leandro, if you're up to keeping up the wiki, that's great
I was wondering what to do when the edit limit expired.

Is there a thread somewhere here that lists all the abbreviations (like LBMA) that people are using now?

Like this one?

I'm almost sick of Hellions and Skulls at this point. Why doesn't anyone use low level stuff from red-side? Snakes, RIP cops, Mooks, etc.

Snake Tales (Arc ID #91268) -
Planning on getting quite a few arcs in this weekend myself.
My arcs are in my sig. HISS and Heiress (#10853) is the one I most want to see receive some attention if you only have time for one. -
Would you want that to search the Send Off Text for every mission in the arc?
I would rather see them add another field for tags in the story tab, or increase the description field, or both.
Updated the OP with Humor, Dramatic, and For-Hire tags. -
I understand the point of putting up a farm arc to run it.
I don't understand the point of putting up a farm arc thinking its a good way to earn tickets or get HoF. Its not going to ever get HoF and the tickets are much easier to get actually running the farm...
I absolutely do not understand trying to draw in people to your farm by tricking them into it, what do you have to gain? It seems to me that tagging you farm with an SFMA tag will just invite people to use the report button to make the GMs aware of your farm. So, you're increasing your risk for virtually no reward. What kind of farmer would do THAT?!? -
For the 'Villain For Hire" What about FHMA for For Hire Mission Arc. Its most often used for villains, I am sure, but I know some mercenary heroes as well.
-
Added VSMA and HLMA. Changed the formatting and added categories. Changed the RBMA description and added a note for clarification.
I saw a couple of people already using [HFMA] for Humor Focused Mission Arc. Sounds like a good one to me. Anyone else have thoughts on that? -
I'm not saying that all RBMA arcs are 'farms' in the negative sense. I am saying that the GMs, once they pick up on our tagging system, may ban an arc with that tag without even looking at it. It happens now, with 'farm' in the description, so my concern is that it will quickly become the kiss of death.
Give me a quick and concise way to get that same point across and I will change the description. Or, if you have a suggestion for a separate tag more appropriate I'm open to that. -
[SMVA] Self-Motivated Villainy Arc? It gets away from the 'MA' ending, but maybe that's ok.
I am curious if we want to start putting Tags in categories. Here are the Challenge Level Tags (LBMA/MLMA), here are the Mission Archetype Tags(SFMA/PCMA/RBMA), etc. Then, consider putting more specific sub-tags as desired under the appropriate tag, such as adding the CMDA tag under the SFMA.
I do think its possible to get too specific with your tagging, but should that be something left to the author to risk? If they tag specific without also tagging general, they would be the one risking missing a broader audience. -
[ QUOTE ]
We need to start promoting a few tags to the official lists. If you see any here that are proposed which you approve of, sign on the dotted line. Full consensus isn't possible, but if enough folks think it'd be a useful tag it may as well go in.

Went ahead and tossed a few up. If they come apart under closer inspection I'll switch or pull them later. The ones I added were:
[NCMA] - Non-Canon Mission Arc (Not grounded in COH canon, an "Elseworlds" arc)
[SGMA] - Super Group specific Mission Arc (Specific for the authors SG. May not work well for others)
[MLMA] - Mid-Level Mission Arc (Appropriate for levels 20-40, Post SOs and Pre-Epic Pools)
[RBMA] - Rewards Based Mission Arc (Use at your own risk. Don't blame me if the GMs smack your arc down)
I used RBMA instead of ROMA as ROMA will hit on Roman among other things. -

The tags aren't a bad idea, but how do you define your missions? I have an arc with an EB/AV in 4 of the 5 missions, but it's very story-based and not meant as a pro challenge (you always have an ally along to help). Is it tough if you go after that optional AV at the end? Absolutely, but that's for story-based reasons and you can skip him anyway.
That's why I'd like to see a dev system, too. Otherwise it's going to be like "[blah][blah][blah]oh crap i'm out of room for my arc's actual name"
[/ QUOTE ]
You have an EB/AV in four out of the five missions and you don't consider it a pro challenge?
[/ QUOTE ]
*shrug* that, to me, would be up to the author to decide how to label it. Personally I would not label it a Pro Challenge unless the intent was to really challenge the player (arcs such as Arcana's Scrapper Challenge). What is your arc focused on? Who are you trying to attract? To me, that's what causes you to pick a particular tag to use.
For the mission above, I would SFMA the arc and still make note in the description of the AVs/EBs. I highly doubt Positron is going to forgive the lack of mentioning the AV when he consideres the arc for dev choice just because you have a PCMA tag -

OKy.. i got my spawning right, and everything seams to be working except for my Nav bar again.
Now after i resuce the second girl, I get "spunky girl" showing up in nav bar. This is the name of the second girl you rescue. When you save her, Its supose to say "Save Jenna !" thats what i have writen in jenna's singular text. Her plural is "friends to save"
After you rescue her, its supose to say "Lead Jenna out of the sewere" thats in escort text.
None of this stuff is showing up. It just stays at "spunky girl" Which ironically is NOT something that is writen anywhere.

Are you editing from a published mission or a local one?
Try this
(1) If its a published mission, click edit, then save as to maker sure this version of the arc is the local one. If its a local arc you are testing, you can skip this step.
(2) Look for the *.storyarc file in your City of Heroes\Missions directory and open the one that matches the filename of your mission with your favorite text editor (notepad works fine for this)
(3) Do a search (Edit->Find in Notepad) for "spunky girl" (without the quotes)
This will at least tell you if the text is in the file at all, and if so which detail it is showing up from.
If that doesn't work, you can always copy the text and post it up for us to look through -

My guess for the unfinished, yet published, arcs is that they want to earn tickets while testing -- perhaps to unlock more content for other arcs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly. Why test in test mode after you have all the badges? You can test a published arc AND get rewards at the same time. At least the authors are polite enough to let you know up front what they are doing. -
Doing the same on my arcs that have the room in the description, and using the shorthand tags for those that do not.

I suggest you also incorporate
[FARM] - For All, Reasonable Missions ... To denote arcs which could be played by anyone... :P
[/ QUOTE ]
I wanted to briefly comment on this. I have no problem coming up with a tag that designates farms. As someone mentioned above, it needs to be an acronym that would not be likely to show up as otherwise legit text. However, I can't see a case where anyone would use it, from the author side. It would be like painting a big red sign on your mission that said "Ban Me" (maybe the tag could be BMMA). Don't get me wrong, I do think that players would love to have such a tag so that they could find (or avoid) those missions. I just don't see it getting used unless the devs were to define what was an "allowable farm". In other words, don't hold your breath
-
We also have to realize that whatever system we develop as players will not be the "last word" in locating missions. You can't tag for every possibility, and probably less than 25% of the players will use the tagging system either as a player or an author. Limiting yourself to playing missions that are tagged WILL cause you to miss out on some great content.
My suggestion, and its just that, as suggestion, is to limit yourself to the tags that BEST describe your arc. Maybe you arc is a Pro Challenge, Team Focused, Non-Canon, Story Focused, Comedy Arc. But pick the two or three that it is more than the others. Decide which category of player you are most wanting to attract. If your description allows you for more tags, and they all fit the story, by all means use them, but you are not REQUIRED to use every tag that fits. -
How about NCMA for Non-Canon Mission Arc?
-
Maybe the devs would be open to increasing the character limit in the description field by about 100 characters. Sure that will take time as well, but probably much less than creating a viable tagging system from scratch.
